Cragwood Country House Hotel

First time at Cragwood and it won't the last. The staff are all very friendly and the hotel is very clean, my room was spotless. One of the biggest selling points is there is a large car park, something hard to find at other hotels in The Lakes unless you pay double the room rate.

Lovely Arts & Crafts country house hotel, with many original fittings, panelling, fireplaces, staircase. Lovely Mawson garden well kept and colourful.

Amazing stay at the Cragwood! Couldn’t recommend enough. We brought our dog and the hotel was very dog friendly. The hotel was clean and the grounds and view of the lake was beautiful! The breakfast was also amazing, with a choice of a hot meal as well as cereals, yogurts and croissants! Would 100% go again.

Lovely dog friendly stay,we had a bottom floor room with patio doors that led out so you could walk your dog straight from the room. The room was modern and warm and the hotel itself was great to relax in with plenty of places to sit and read or just chill. We had food from the bar menu which was nice and you can sit in one of the living rooms to eat. Overall a great stay

The whole experience was fabulous. Tremendous food, great staff, dog friendly, fantastic location. Huge grounds overlooking the lake. Will be back again.

Excellent over night stop off. Every member of the team we met was fantastic and the food at both dinner and breakfast was delicious. Stunning hotel in a stunning location and beautifully my able to walk down to the lake front was an added bonus. Would recommend without question and would definitely stay again.

Beautiful older hotel with lovely gardens set on the lake with fantastic views of the lake from the bar and outside patio, comfortable slightly old fashioned in a good way, staff were excellent, helpful and welcoming. Would stay again.

What an amazing place. Beautiful scenery, right on the lake, we walked straight down to it from the bar terrace. Staff so friendly and helpful, beautiful baby windows to sit in with a drink.

Got married here two years ago, got upgraded as it was our anniversary. Food good, choice of dinner or bar menu. Beautiful location, goes out on to lake Windermere. Staff kind and helpful and the room was spotless. Thank you for making our anniversary memorable ❤️

This is a beautiful old country house with lots of original feature. Our room was spacious, spotless and very comfy. The shower was amazing! Shared areas in the hotel were equally impressive, the bar areas and rooms off to sit and have a quiet drink were lovely, with open fires contributing to the cosy feel. The hotel is a few minutes drive from Ambleside so well situated for the town. I would definitely recommend.

The Staff Where all friendly and helpful , Food was amazing.the Bedroom very comfortable .the Bathroom needed a bigger Shelf every thing else was pefect

Service was absolutely brilliant from all of the team and all webt above a d beyond to make our stay such a great experience. Cleanliness was spot on and the rooms are so spacious and decorated to such a high standard too. Breakfast was excellent and lots of choice too..well worth booking again thankyou to all staff 😀

Staff were really friendly. Hotel and grounds were beautiful. Rooms were spotless. They also left a teddy on my daughters bed, which was lovely.the only 2 downsides were the WiFi (room 20) wasn’t reliable, this is fine if you don’t need the internet but if you intend to use it was a bit of pain because there was no mobile signal either. I like that it is a dog friendly hotel, however we had a dog barking most of the night at the hotel.

Cragwood Country House is a gorgeous hotel on a lovely property. The views of the lake from the hotel were spectacular. HOWEVER... we stayed in room 1, the Honeymoon Suite. It is the best room in the hotel. The shower in the room is COMPLETELY USELESS. One CANNOT take a shower without flooding the bathroom floor. This is due to the design of the shower / tub. So. I had a shower after dinner and before bed, like I always do. Next thing we know, hotel reception calls us to tell us that water from our bathroom is leaking through to the ceiling below! Then my husband has a shower and the same thing happens. Like that's OUR problem and we're supposed to fix it? The guy who called, who was apparently the supervisor on duty, was totally ineffective at dealing with the situation, was unable to find or even offer a solution other than to give us the key for room 2 - across the hall - to shower in the next morning. Meanwhile, while all of this is playing out, my husband and I just really wanted to go to bed, as we had been up and traveling since 4:00 that morning. But we had to wait up while this situation was "dealt with." In fact the supervisor wanted to send someone up to our room right away to attempt to fix the problem - that was NOT acceptable since we were both in bed at that point. And the worst part is, according to the supervisor this happens FREQUENTLY... And they have done NOTHING to FIX this problem other than to keep blaming it on their guests! Do NOT recommend!!!

We enjoyed our overnight stay at Cragwood and would recommend it highly - lovely views of the Lake - very comfortable hotel and the young members of Staff were particularly pleasant and very helpful. We only ate in the bar as the Restaurant was fully booked unfortunately - our fault we should have booked ahead. Our b'room and bathroom were really very nice - tastefully decorated and warm... Overall, a delightful experience...

Were looking forward to the peace and tranquility of a lakeside venue for a first time visit to the Lakes District after travelling from the other side of the world. First impressions: Room not ready at 3pm check in time. Room was extremely small to fit 2 suitcases or even a toiletry bag in bathroom. Partial lake view if you crane your head in a purchased “lake view room”. As a dog friendly hotel and a wedding venue, other paying guests treated as a low priority. Constant barking of numerous large dogs during our stay (day and night) and wedding parties taking over spaces that everyone should be free to use but feel they are being intrusive. Staff didn’t go out of their way to solve any problems that were addressed, only offering a “sorry”. Would not recommend or ever want to return to this establishment.

The hotel location was lovely (right by Windermere Lake), and the hotel room itself was nice enough, but the decor was dated and the food could have been better. It did not state that dinner was pre fixed and the only a la cartel options were at the bar. The staff were attentive and friendly. Overall a nice one night stay, but the interior design of the hotel needs a facelift.

It was our first time visiting the Lake District, and our trip began with a stay at Cragwood Hotel. From the moment we checked in, the staff were so kind and helpful. To our surprise, they upgraded our room and even walked us there personally. The room was absolutely amazing—spacious, elegant, and felt almost like staying in a castle. We arrived at sunset, and when we opened the door, the view was breathtaking. It was such a peaceful, comfortable start to our trip, and really set the tone for a wonderful experience. We also had dinner at the hotel, which I would highly recommend. After checking in and relaxing, we went to the restaurant and were seated by the window. The dining area only had around five tables, which gave a sense of privacy and space between guests. The waiter was very friendly and attentive, and even surprised us with an extra sorbet. The food was absolutely delicious—something we won’t forget.

Lovely hotel with beautiful view's and gardens. Staff couldn't do enough to make our stay wonderful. The food was excellent. I do like a good pillow and if I could criticise anything it would be that one thing. Wouldn't stop me staying again.

The service needs improvement. We may be unlucky been served by a by a new employee ( I hope it was just a new employee or an untrained one). I ordered a drink a the bar and I actually explained to the lady how to do it - it was just an Apperoll spritz- nothing fancy). On the dinner , after we ordered, after 15 minutes, she came back asking us if we want to order something. The next morning, she forgot to bring me the breakfast ( after 30 minutes of waiting I informed another colleague and found out that it was “missed”). However have paid separate for the “drink and food service”.

Elegant country house with gorgeous views of Lake Windermere. The breakfast options were excellent. The grounds and surrounding area were magnificent. A wonderful quiet retreat from which to explore the surrounding countryside.

Great hotel in prime location by the lake ,not far to ferry terminal and bus stop . Great friendly staff who are always happy to help .

An absolute gem. A beautiful hotel with very nice rooms. The restaurant was top notch and the food was delicious. I can’t say enough good things about the hotel. Book a room, you won’t be disappointed.

The property is located near the lake with a great walk to enjoy. The room was spacious and comfortable, the breakfast was acceptable however we found the coffee weak and tasteless. We would have appreciated an espresso coffee which standard in 4 stars hotel.

Lovely venue, friendly staff, magnificent views. Erving menu choice limited but excellent quality. Some items have excesses that seem to cover the cost of the whole item whereas you have already paid a significant amount! 3 course nearly £60 then the cheese board is an extra £13.
