Hillside Motel

This motel was very dated but very clean & well kept. There were no drinking glasses in the room. It was conveniently close to the funeral home we were attending.

Staff was very friendly, beautiful view. Liked the kitchenette area in the room

Wasn't an amazing stay. Booked a queen, arrived and told there wasn't one. Given a room with 2 beds instead, told it was a queen but was doubles. Had to sleep in separate beds that night. Asked for a queen the following day and was given it. Property said it had hair blowers and didn't. We were on a motorcycle trip so knowing these things were important. Plugs in bathrooms didn't work. Staff was friendly but the hotel definitely still needs work. Beds were adequate but not very comfortable.

Very few amenities. Not very clean

Well my suggestions would be coffee machines or a kettle to make coffee, hair dryer, kleenex, fans or some kind of ventilation

Just a dirty small room for 100$ no tub, no shampoo an old saggy bed, no coffee maker, not worth the money.

No A/C in our unit. TV only 2 channels. Looks like they are renovating, but still work to do. Bedding was clean. Staff very efficient and friendly. Had a usable kitchen.

The room was nice, in one of the two houses at the facility instead of the motel proper. It has a mini fridge, sink and 2 beds. Beds were ok for comfort. Had a bit of an old house smell. The area doesn't have much, and is in a neighborhood with a bit of urban decay. The owner was lovely, taking interest in what we doing in town and checking in with us whenever we saw him.

Sanitary drains above the floor and require an electric drain pump (that periodically turns on making loud noise) to prevent the sewer from overflow into the rooms. Afraid to imagine what happens during power outages... 3. Light fixture above the bathtub (electrocution hazard). 4. Broken garbage can: won't open by a pedal. The cover has to be lifted manually. 5. Dirty floors and funny smelling towels and blankets. 6. Non-armed but loaded with moldy bait mousetraps and mouse droppings in the cupboards. 7. Moldy shower curtain. 8. Found 3 spiders and a couple of other insects in the room. 9. Metal skillets provided, yet no range. How metal kitchenware can be used in the microwave oven? (Wouldn't use them anyway: extremely dirty.) 10. No A/C. When I was there, it wasn't warm at all, but how do tourists survive there in the summer? 11. No entrance mat. Very important, since it was raining and the floor was getting messy and slippery. Notified the owner 3 (!) times over several hours to get a mat and a couple more towels (for a family of 4, there were only 2 towels). He was "busy" even in the evening, while not present at the site. Finally, he brought 3 towels (1 as a mat!) after the 3rd call, when I already told him that it was no more relevant, since we were about to go to bed.

Not well cleaned and in major need of repair and paint; an overall renovation required. I would not recommend or return at that Motel.

Dirty and run down. Unfriendly staff. Unless you are stuck and have no choice you can go here. Overpriced for a dump that it is.

The room floor was not clean. My feet were black walking across the bathroom floor, had to ask for coffee, tea, sugar, shampoo, and towels. The bottom of one chair was all falling apart, was not impressed with the room at all. When we arrived, I told them that I had two small dogs 7 1/2 pounds each And told this was OK. We were out pretty well all day long and the dogs were only there at night to sleep when we walked them. We totally cleaned everything up. Upon leaving The Owner/manager stopped my car and told me that I would have to pay for the dogs. This was not told to me at the beginning They said the dogs were fine. Upon receiving my credit card bill he has charged me. I feel they are not honest people and would never recommend anybody to the spot. Very disappointed with my booking through Expedia as they should be aware of how these dishonest people treat others.

The motel is clean But Very outdated for the price The beddings was clean but outdated the bathtub was 1970s and yellow. The furniture was very outdated The indian owner is very nice man and his wife. But I should of paid 30$ more and got better because the motel is not worth $100 a night. I stayed in better for less then half that price. So when your booking for a room keep this in mind. I only stayed 2 nights. The room was find for 2 nights but if your a fussy person who expects nice this would not be the place for you. There was 2 bees in the room. And ants on the floor. To be polite I would not stay at that motel again. But I mentioned the owner is a really nice guy

Si vous voulez juste faire un stop d une nuit, sans rien utiliser d'autre que le lit, c'est bien, et très calme. Pour le reste, le mobilier et installations sont vieillots, et le sol, mobilier et micro-onde de notre chambre étaient sale. Le monsieur a la réception est gentil.

A super comfortable bed, quiet area, and a free room upgrade was much appreciated! Definitely worth it and will return next time we’re in town! Thanks!

The room was very small and no Air conditionner or even a fan. It was so hot that we almost did not sleep. The staff was very nice tho and gave us some nice spots to visit thanks for that. I guess you get what you pay for... We would not go back there.

This is a quaint little motel. Very clean, close to restaurant, mall, and other essential services. It is a reasonable distance from the ferry. It is older and somewhat dates but everything worked fine. It is quiet. Just what was needed for a restful night before the ferry

Beautiful views, clean, comfortable

When we got there our room was booked to someone else so they upgraded us to a suite. The suite was an apartment down the road that was unfinished and the tub didn't even have faucets. Very disapppointed.

This property is very economical and affordable. They upgraded my room without any extra cost. The owner is awesome and helpful. I will definitely visit again.

The staff was very acco odsting as we couldn't get there until late but we worked it out and even though it was a short stay I was impressed with outstanding service.

Service was unimaginably bad.There was no one at reception in the morning.No one was picking up call.They mentioned that they have tea and coffee,but it was locked in the office room and the room was locked. Parking space was very bad and risky.No one was there to take care of the gues

It was clean and friendly! Easy to get to main attractions in St John’s. Manager was very friendly and helpful on local things.

I am disabled but didn't ask for special considerations except no stairs and was given a drive-up room which I appreciated. However, I was not asked if I wanted smoking or non and was given a room in the smoking area of the property. After the clerk/manager(?) showed me where to park, he asked me soon after to move my vehicle b/c they were taking pictures. About 20 minutes later he asked me to move my car back to the original spot b/c he had given me someone else's spot! I walk with a cane so the inconvenience was ridiculous. I had to take a cab the next morning to my appointments and asked to leave my car there during that time which he agreed to, then he berated me because I was parked too close to the line and that they couldn't use that spot. I wasn't on the line, mind you, just too close to it. He BERATED me. Extremely unprofessional and certainly not the way to get clients to return.

Great location and Friendly staff

Owner was extremely accommodating and understanding with our late check in. He upgraded our room to make our room easier to find if he was unavailable when we arrived. Location was very convenient to catch the ferry to Digby. The room suited our needs- close to the ferry for early departure the following morning.

The manager was very helpful as I booked the room online and we have bicycles, equipment, food bins, etc. He helped us check out other possibilities for our stay & we had success! Nice view, close to downtown too. The units are very basic, mostly clean and safe.
