This is an older, historic hotel located in downtown Monte Vista in SE Colorado. Be aware that the hotel has only been partially remodeled. My particular room was comfortable enough, but not very convenient. For instance, the bathroom sink was really too small for shaving in the morning. Front staff was friendly and provided good recommendations for restaurants, of which there are only a couple of choices. Beware of the quirky elevator... it can be a handful especially if you have more than one piece of luggage.

This historic hotel was built in 1930. The rooms are clean with a comfortable bed but very small by modern standards. However, there is a sitting area on each floor next to the elevator with cushy chairs and sofas where you can read and visit quite comfortably. The elevator is original to the building complete with brass cage doors and while not as “efficient” as the modern elevator it is arguably way cooler. The included breakfast is a small hot buffet and assorted rolls, fruit, yogurt etc. Very tasty and better than the standard grab and go muffin assortment.

The elevator is ancient and could be charming but it was built in the day when you actually had someone operating it. It felt unsafe. We had to hook a brass gate to get our stuff in, then release it, then go past our floor and back down to get off cause it didn't line up otherwise

The elevator was broke. Climbing 30 stairs to get to our room was not enjoyable. We asked for help with our stuff or a discount and were laughed at. This hotel is very old and could use updating.

This was an historic hotel and very well kept. The furniture is antique, and beautiful, very comfortable. The free breakfast had a good variety of food. We loved the antique elevator, which is faster than a modern one. Every floor had a sitting area, beautifully furnished. The staff is friendly and helpful. Plenty of parking behind the hotel.

E. Floyd Redding designed this hotel in the heart of Monte Vista, Colorado's historic Business district. It opened in 1930. A comfortable stay in a beautiful, old hotel. The original Otis elevator with manual accordion door and old push-button controls is really cool to operate and ride!

Room was small but clean. Comfortable bed. Had everything I needed. Good bang for the buck. The commons areas could use some cleaning and updating. Dust present on stairways and railings. Odd odor throughout the hotel. Old elevator but it's only three floors. Would stay here again.

Staff was very accommodating and helpful. We left some items in the room, didn't realize it until we were home. Called the owners, they retrieved our items and shipped them to us. Our room was spotless and very clean. Our room was bigger and better than the online description. Great stay! Thank you!

This hotel was built during the Fred Harvey heyday and is on the historic register. So it has a lot of character. Rooms are nicely updated and very clean. If you're interested in the sandhill crane migration, this hotel is centrally located and close to the wildlife reserve. It is also close to restaurants and coffee shops.

This is an old facility. We read that it was being remodeled but it wasn't. Two safety issues. Very strong odor of cleaning products. We could not open the window to air out the room because it was heated by a space heater that was vented to the outside via the window. There were hairs on the bedspread. The bathroom sink was so small, and under the protruding mirror, so that we couldn't even spit out our toothpaste without it dripping on the floor. The plaster on the walls was chipped in several places. We left a day early because we are two medical professionals who worried about the safety of the facility.

The hotel was a historic building on the main US highway thru town . My room was on the front of the building right over US 160. So the traffic was busy till after 10 pm. A room in the rear of the building would have been much quieter .

Very cool hotel. It has a real nostalgic vibe about it. Fun place to stay. The only l thing I did not like so much is that the AC unit barely makes it comfortable, but it is okay. I would stay there again, this was our third time staying there.

For this place for being a historical building it was run down, had the potential to be really nice, but it was not being kept up. Their rooms were small. The ac was a standalone unit blowing outside curtains didn't even close, so you you had to clip the blind shut and the shower was pitiful and the bathroom sink was extremely small.

Rooms are tiny and while they have the usual microwave and fridge, a desk and chair, if there is a king-sized bed in the room, you can barely get around. Bathroom is so small that two people can’t be in there at the same time. This could be a great property, but it needs some major upgrades.

The Monte Villa is historical with awesome antiques, and amazing looking bar (not operational), and the coolest 1930's elevator. But - the rooms are tiny and they never should place a king bed in a tiny room. We had no room to dress or undress or move around and we are very small people. The check in person was awesome and friendly but the rooms just are not okay for a return visit.

Property owner was very rude when I ask to check in late. I’ve been told that they’re closed at 10pm and no one will be there to check me in and “No one is special”. But after long and nervous conversation she find a way to check me in and leave the room keys in lockbox.

My stay at the Monte Villa Hotel was absolutely incredible. The hotel is stunning, built in the 1930s it has a beautiful feel, with the original elevator and bar. Nothing beats its charm. The owners are amazing, they pre heated my room upgraded me from a queen bed to a king. I was taken to my room and shown where everything was by the owner. It was a very pleasing experience. I definitely enjoyed and recommend to stay here, I guarantee that you won’t be disappointed.

Woman who checked us in was VERY unpleasant. She didn't speak English well and when I told her I couldn't understand her Asian accent she went ballistic and threatened to cancel our reservation which we later wished she had. The room was tiny with a king bed crammed into it. The sink in the bathroom was about the size of a shoe box and there was an electrical outlet right on top of it (I have photos). One electrical extension chord was used to power the coffee maker, microwave and the refrigerator. This was the worst lodging experience we have ever had.

Property owner was very helpful, when we wanted to check-in late they provided us with all sorts of information in advance. Place is very neat. Interesting and unique older aesthetic. It's not fancy by any means but is amazing for the price.

Cool historic site with a classic feel that transports you back in time. Easy to ifnd and close to so many different attractions from the Great Sand Dunes National Park, some of Colorado's fourteeners and international dark sky areas, as well as the other side where Rio Grande Forest meets the mountains at the Lobo overlook outside of South Fork only 30 to 40 minutes away. This place a great stay.

Easy to ifnd and close to so many different attractions from the Great Sand Dunes National Park, some of Colorado's fourteeners and international dark sky areas, as well as the other side where Rio Grande Forest meets the mountains at the Lobo overlook outside of South Fork only 30 to 40 minutes away. This place a great stay.

This is our go-to hotel when in the Monte Vista area. Exceptional customer service and historical rooms. Definitely a must stay if you are on your way to South Fork or Durango. Restaurants, brewery, bakery, and bowling alley within walking distance. Please visit, you will not be disappointed!

The hotel was a historic building on the main US highway thru town . My room was on the front of the building right over US 160. So the traffic was busy till after 10 pm. A room in the rear of the building would have been much quieter .

A very unique property. Right downtown. Is a restored 3 floor old hotel. Lots of seating areas on each floor. Handy for downtown restaurants. Steakhouse downtown was excellent also

This hotel was built during the Fred Harvey heyday and is on the historic register. So it has a lot of character. Rooms are nicely updated and very clean. If you're interested in the sandhill crane migration, this hotel is centrally located and close to the wildlife reserve. It is also close to restaurants and coffee shops.

This hotel is in a historic building with a lot of the older fixtures (like the wooden bar and parlor area) still intact, so it has character. It's close to the historic downtown of Monte Vista, and also an easy ~45min drive to Great Sand Dunes National Park. The staff was really accommodating when we requested a later check-in due to wanting to stargaze at the dunes. This was a great place to stay while exploring the area!

This property is very old but well kept. Everything was very clean and the staff was very kind and helpful. It may not be as updated as other hotel chains but it gives a unique experience and the building itself has been deemed a state historical site. They did not serve breakfast as was advertised on the listing but there were plenty of restaurants within walking distance from this property so that was no big deal.

I went for a nearby event for one night. It was the cheapest in area. The room was clean and bathroom was updated. Comfortable bed. The comforter/top blanket was kinda gross. I just put in on floor. Overall it was worth a hundred bucks. Free Breakfast. Hot eggs & sausage. Bread & Fruit and cereal.

The proprietor was friendly and explained what needed to be explained. It is a grand old hotel but nicely remodeled. The breakfast was nice with real scrambled eggs, not egg-powder eggs like most motels serve. Enjoyed the ambiance.

The staff and service was excellent. We arrived late in the evening and the staff upgraded our room without an additional charge. The nostalgia and decor of the hotel was very cool. Additionally, most continental breakfasts I've had are lacking any decent hot food. We were surprised to find delicious bacon and eggs and home-fried potatoes.

This historic hotel was built in 1930. The rooms are clean with a comfortable bed but very small by modern standards. However, there is a sitting area on each floor next to the elevator with cushy chairs and sofas where you can read and visit quite comfortably. The elevator is original to the building complete with brass cage doors and while not as “efficient” as the modern elevator it is arguably way cooler. The included breakfast is a small hot buffet and assorted rolls, fruit, yogurt etc. Very tasty and better than the standard grab and go muffin assortment.

Easy check-in and check-out. Breakfast was good and there was plenty of food. Very nice people running and working in the hotel. Excellent recommendations for supper. Clean and quiet rooms. All around a very nice, restored old hotel with lots of charm. For a one night stay excellent value! Thank you.

The owner was very nice. She showed me around to make sure i knew where to go. The walls in my room were so thin i could my neighbor breathe. The room was super small. The bathroom was tiny. No TV service. Breakfast was good(scrambled eggs) but options were exremely limited. It was a good price so I guess it was ok. I wouk Ld not stay again though since the walls were so thin

Rooms and bathrooms are very small. No central air. Instead a portable AC unit. Which worked ok since the room was the size of a closet. And breakfast was supposed to be from 7am to 9am. But kitchen closed at 8:45am.

This was an historic hotel and very well kept. The furniture is antique, and beautiful, very comfortable. The free breakfast had a good variety of food. We loved the antique elevator, which is faster than a modern one. Every floor had a sitting area, beautifully furnished. The staff is friendly and helpful. Plenty of parking behind the hotel.
