Nice location along Playa Hermosa, which has black sands and great waves for surfing. Nice pool for swimming - the beach itself is not a good swimming or snorkeling spot due to the strong waves, so pool access was great. Beautiful sunsets!

Our suite faced and was very close to the beach. You could not beat the view. The balcony was very large with a picnic table and bench. Ask for room 208. The one improvement would be to update the bathroom.

We felt like we were in our own mini resort. The hotel only has 8 rooms (2 suites and 6 jr suites), and all with balconies & ocean views. The pool was relaxing and the ocean just steps away. Away from the chaos of Jaco. We absolutely loved our stay here.

We absolutely loved our stay here. The room, swimming pool and grounds were clean and well maintained. The front desk employees were fantastic and went above and beyond to provide any assistance needed. They offered up dining recommendations and helped book tours. The location is walking distance to multiple good restaurants and you can walk the beach to get to some of them. The beach was a short distance from the rooms. The town of Jaco and supermarkets to buy groceries were a short drive. Two things we would have appreciated; less ants outside and inside and a microwave. Aside from that we had a wonderful stay!!!

This is truly a nice getaway oasis. The rooms are nicely arranged and clean. Really relaxing swimming pool. Some decent restaurants nearby and Jaco is a short taxi ride away for more shopping stores. The best is staff. They are a very dedicated staff. Shout out to Chelsea for handling some changes to my reservation by phone. She made it easy. Oh, lastly, the view is amazing and if you surf you are going to be very happy.

Our room had absolutely amazing views and was very clean and comfortable with good air conditioning. We were in one of the beach view rooms with a large patio and extra bedroom. The property was very quiet. I couldn't hear the noise from the road behind, only the ocean waves. The pool was clean and surrounded by lovely landscaping. The nearby restaurants and bars had a relaxed vibe and plenty of food options. We enjoyed walking down the beach for breakfast and other meals. The scenery was stunning. I highly recommend it, especially if you want a quieter beach than you'll find in Jaco.

Friendly staff and clean, but right on the highway and the walls are very thin, no restaurant or anything available, but right on the beach, so great for surfing. Just a bare- bones kinda place. Ok for one night, but if I owned the place I would sound-proof the walls more. Don’t recommend the room we had, 205, upstairs facing the highway. I would think for that price they would give us a better room.

The location of this hotel was incredible. We had a large room for our family of 6 with balconies and beautiful views of the black sand beach. We loved being steps away from the ocean! The pool was very nice as well. The room itself was functional, but pretty worn down. Many of the light fixtures were missing bulbs and some of the switches didn't work at all. Everything felt a little tired and old. But again, the views were totally worth it!

This hotel has only 8 rooms, immaculate grounds (gates and shrubbery separate the bordering properties so it’s very secluded), a stones throw from the ocean, a staff that goes over and beyond to make sure you enjoy your stay. They arranged our massages, horseback ride on the beach and gave great advice on the best places to eat. We stayed in the upstairs oceanfront 2 bedroom suite. It had a wide “L” shaped balcony 25’ facing the ocean and about 20’ facing the pool with table, chairs and sofa. This is definitely our “GO TO” resort every year!

DO NOT STAY IN ROOM 205!!! THE HOTEL IS LOCATED ON THE HWY AND ROOM 205 IS THE NOISE BUFFER FOR THE ENTIRE PROPERTY. TRUCKS WERE ENGINE BRAKING ALL NIGHT LONG. MOTORCYCLES SCREAMING BY ALL NIGHT LONG. IT WAS NOT A VACATION. IF YOU ARE MAKING A RESERVATION, CONFIRM WITH THE HOTEL YOU ARE NOT STAYING IN ROOM 205. I CONTACTED THE MANAGER AND THEY DID NOT REPLY. THEY DO NOT CARE. Otherwise as long as you’re ok with hanging out with large iguanas and python snakes, you should be fine.

This place has so much potential! The bathroom was terrible! Really need to update and sort it out! A little bug problem but - carpenter ants - not good with all the wood! Furniture is old and beat up. Not enough closet space at all! And no English speaking tv channels when all the guest were English speaking lol we checked out early to stay in a more expensive hotel- jaco beach bars and restaurants are extremely over priced compared to the restaurant stripe just minutes away.

We came here because of the advertising for surfing beach. However when we arrived there was a permanent sign on the gate going to the beach with no swimming. Turns out this is for expert surfers. Not for family's. Morning staff not friendly. Had to bring a broken coffee maker to front desk because my machine was broke and she gave me another broken one. Then blamed it on me and walked me back to room to only discover it was broken. No apology. This place would be excellent for professional surfers.

WE loved the Backyard Hotel. We wanted a beachfront hotel that had local flavor and that is exactly what it was.We could just sit on the balcony and watch the waves. Just a few steps down and you were on the beach.It was peaceful and quiet and away from all the noise and crowds. The staff were always very helpful.

The room was clean and in very good condition. However, there were a couple of notable exceptions. There are two switches in the bathroom, one for the light and one for the ventilation fan. The switch for the vent fan does not seem to work as there is no vent fan in the ceiling. There is a round white plate in the ceiling where a vent fan may have been. Between the bunk beds and the queen bed, there is a single double switch on the wall. One must be for a Zombie repellent and the other is a Chupacabra repellent. They worked very well as I did not see any Zombies or Chupacabras while there. Some of the wood furniture could use a touch up pen due to wear. The staff were very nice and helpful. I would recommend to visit, as I plan to stay there again.

Wonderful place. All the pictures represent how beautiful the grounds are. Staff are constantly cleaning the property outside and are friendly. Beautiful beach. The waves were sometimes 12 foot. It is not good for swimming due to riptides. However the water is warm and I would wade up to my thighs. The hotel is about 5-6 miles from Jaco. I chose this hotel because I wanted someplace quiet. Now that being said, there is noise from highway 34 competing with the sound of crashing waves. It didn’t bother us. There are three restaurants about 30 yards away with good food. The hotel owner told me about a small rainforest park named “The Rainmaker “. It was about an hour away and featured hanging brides and pools at the bottom of waterfalls. Self guided it took us about an hour and a half to complete. Pura Vida!

For the location it was great, especially with watching all the surfing. It’s right off the road. Our room was pointing towards the road so it made it really noisy. Right next to restaurants and could walk to them easily.

We stayed here for a night on the way back to San Jose, from the south. We wanted to shorten our drive to the airport the next day and this place was recommended . Nice clean hotel, comfortable bed. Pretty beach. Good restaurant in easy walking distance.
