Really annoyed that you have to pay for parking in the hotels own car park. The staff are good but there are not enough of them.

Fabulous location, good food, nice staff. Bedroom door had terrible squeak, saw the handyman and he said he would fix it, but didn’t! In the morning took a long time to check out as the computer would not upload, it was 9.30! Parking £6.50 a night, not stated on the booking🙄

Lovely setting on the water. Must pay for parking; our room is basic and could use bedside electric outlets. The toilet seat is broken and slides around. The place could use a bit of updating.

Great place for taking your dog lots of walks nearby. Even a separate dinning room that you can take your pet into when at breakfast. Great views over the harbour.The only downside would be the evening dinner menu could be a bit more exciting and maybe a specials choice so as not the same menu each night.

Parking charge is a joke. Can park anywhere else in the area for free. They charge £6.50 per day so our overnight stay cost £16 as the site you need to use charge a service charge. We arrived at 6pm and left next morning at 11am. They are severely short staffed which made breakfast a very disappointing experience. Had to search for cutlery, take condiments off other tables, queue for plates and also queue and a lengthy wait for food to be replenished and it was only 9am. We had a superior room with sea view with a very impressive large window. Down side to this original feature was the wind howled through all night. The bed was comfortable and room was clean. Can’t say the same about all the tables in restaurant as there wasn’t enough staff to keep on top of it. Many guests were saying the same. We weren’t asked how our stay was at check out or I would have fed these observations back. On our arrival home, I contacted the hotel via 2 different platforms and we are oe on day 4 and still no response. Definitely not worth the money or the stress at breakfast.

Lovely loction overlooking the harbour of Portpatrick. Staff are friendly and the service was good ie bar and restaurant.

Large bedroom. Beautiful views from huge window. Staff were very nice, helpful and friendly. Good facilities for the dog. Negative. Counted at least 8 signs in the carpark from private company warning you to pay £6.50 per day for parking.

Customer service was poor. Poor dinner served had to replace it! Dessert was cold had to send back! Bar service poor! I asked if they had Macallan whisky and the Asian bar tender suggested I visually checked all their displayed stock behind the bar; he didn't seem to know what whisky was available!

We received a warm welcome from the person on reception. It was also very hot inside because all the radiators were on full blast in May. The hotel is impressive but showing signs of age with creaking floorboards and flaking paint. Breakfast was fine and the staff were nice. Parking is not free for guests but plenty of free spaces in town.

Clean room - dirty under the bed/no work central heating in the shower/Arrived in the room when it was very cold/ceiling & wall not smooth.

On first sight this hotel looks fantastic unfortunately that impression does not stand close scrutiny. The company Web site shows lovely modern bedrooms well my single room was nothing like. It was very tired and old fashioned with an old uncomfortable sprung bed and a very tired bathroom with a heated towel rail which had old red insulation tape holding it together I spent 3 nights at the hotel and the bedroom received no services at all No clean towels or a clean up and on my leaving after showing hotel staff the heated towel rail was exactly the same with no effort to repair The quality of the breakfast I also thought was poor with what I thought was scrambled eggs looking and smelling disgusting All in all a large underinvested hotel that did not supply what the company Web site shows Once again as a single traveler was given the old and tired single room Very poor all round

It is a lovely hotel. The staff were brilliant. Nothing was a problem. Very Clean. It is suitable for all walks of lives. Only one thing i would say is that it could do with a lick of paint to freshen it up.

Lovely location, rooms and main areas a little tired.During our stay towels only replaced, when I asked at reception. Refreshments in room tea coffee milk on arrival, refilled once during our visit.

I checked into the Portpatrick Hotel for a two-night stay from August 1st to 3rd, and unfortunately, it turned out to be a nightmare from the start. On the first night, I discovered bedbugs in the room. I was promptly moved, but the new room appeared to be an area not typically open to guests. The room lacked basic essentials: no bed sheets, no pillowcases, a visibly dirty duvet, and no duvet cover at all. I was then moved again, only to be told the following morning that we had to vacate the room because it had been double-booked. This led to a fourth move during our short stay. The issues didn’t stop there… the shower in the final room didn’t work. While one of the presumed managers was quite rude and dismissive, the night porter, who remained attentive and genuinely tried to help resolve the ongoing issues. Overall, I would not recommend the Portpatrick Hotel based on this stay. As the harbour house and the waterfront hotel are much more reliable options for overnights in Portpatrick. A Serious review of housekeeping and management practices is clearly needed.

Staff were very pleasant, efficient and helpful. Room was clean, warm, decor was a bit tired. Breakfast was freshly cooked, nice and hot.

not much to say about the hotel it was dated needs a makeover the windows were all black mold and a window was broken and a beer glass was left behind the curtain

Check in staff was amazing. We got in later than expected but was accommodation for the silly hour of arrival. Room 2 was damp smelling like a wet dog. Bed could do with a new mattress. The room was run down and dusty around the floor.

The room was spacious and clean and all the staff were polite and accomodating. Special mention and thanks to Milly for lovely welcome each day and her friendly chat.

Window was broken in the room so wind was howling in all night blowing stuff around the room so spoke to reception all she said was sorry ill get the maintenance guy to look at it luckily the room isn't booked out tonight !!!!lol £120 for a terrible night with no sleep

This was my second visit during the week to this hotel, the first stay was in a premium double room and then this stay was in a more budget single room, it was a warm summers day. I opened the room to be hit by the heat coming from the bathroom, sadly the bathroom window handle was broken and could not be opened, the bathroom also had a large hot water pipe along the wall that was not insulated, thus it just radiated heat into the room, I think this was the mains supply for the entire floor. The only other window in the bedroom could only be opened by a couple of centimetres, so not great for a warm night.

Room was basic and not what we were expecting for the price. Shower needs modernising and door between bedroom and bathroom needed fixing. TV very small. Much of the cooked breakfast was cold. You have to pay to park in the hotel car park even if you are a guest.

We had a lovely stay, we had the superior room with sea view, if anything needs updated in the hotel it’s the windows we could feel a draft coming in, big thick curtains so we closed over the worst windows to keep the draft out, hotel lovely nice bar area and games room, we had dinner and it was lovely and so was the breakfast, I would stay here again lovely views from the room we had.

The location is the best thing about the hotel! It is very very tired. I had a single room, bathroom contained a bath with hand held shower hose...I may aswell have poured a glass of water over myself there was so little pressure from it. It seems some rooms have shower pumps....the room next to me did as I was awoken at 6:30am when the occupants had their showers. When I mentioned to reception when checking out the response was "Some rooms have pumps!" I travel a lot and can't actually remember the last time I said this but I definitely wouldn't go back or recommend.

Very old and outdated furniture and fittings. Not a lot of staff members but very nice, pleasant people. Fantastic views and setting but let down by the decor and furnishings.

We booked a superior sea view room. Check in was efficient and we went to our room. The room seemed OK until we tried to open our window - it was one of the hottest days of the year - and we found the broken window to be screwed shut. The bathroom window was painted closed and could not be opened either. We went to reception and asked if there was a room available with a window that could be opened. We were told there was not. We spent the time we were in our room with the door wedged open with the rubbish bin to get some ventilation. We will not be returning.

This is probably the friendliest hotel I've ever stayed in, and I've travelled a good bit. Everyone from reception to dining room staff to just staff you pass in the halls were great to deal with. The location is fantastic, overlooking the harbour. It's also ideally located for walking, with Dunskey Castle ruins to the south, and Killantringan Lighthouse to the north, and dramatic coastal scenery in between. Restaurant service was good. The hotel itself could use a little upgrading. The carpets were old/stained, et al. But this didn't really affect the stay. My only real grumble is the shower/water pressure, which was non-existent. Could do with investing in some electric shower systems. Having said that, everything else was fine: comfy bed, nice lounge area (with great views), bar, restaurant, outdoor seating, ample free parking, etc. I'd happily stay again.

Room a bit dated and dark.

Service was poor . Just literally handed key and told room upstairs . Arrived at 10.45 pm went to room put bags in went to bar asked for a drink nope ran out asked for another beer nope ran out ended up taking something didn't really want .but sat down was just about to go back up to get one more and I heard the bar maid say to a resident that they couldn't get a drink bar was closed resident said you never said it was closing she said well it's closed I'm closing .

The young staff, most of them from the Stranraer area, could not have been friendlier, or prouder of their home town and surrounding area. At times there were signs that there were insufficient staff on duty, which caused delays at mealtimes and in the bar. The staff continued to do their very best; any resulting problems were due to this apparent lack of resources.

The hotel and staff were excellent they did their very best. However it is GROSSLY understaffed. and it shows. I felt particularly the resteraunt service was very slow just because it was understaffed. They did there best but were stretched. Tea & coffee were served in identicle pots and the crosover flavours were obvious

Breakfast was a joke had to wait for 15 minutes for the hot plates to be replenished, other guests waited for 25minutes, food was cold when it did arrive, 4 hot plates for a hotel this size is inadequate , had to chase around to find someone to ask for tea and coffee.

The room was small but ok but the meal and breakfast service was totally abysmal I think 2 hours to serve a starter and main meal was far to long and no breakfast laid out till past 9.30.The restaurant wasn't even that busy

Stunning views. Hotel is situated on a cliff edge overlooking the sea. I could sit and stare at that view all day, Hotel was short staffed but I think to be fair they’ve just been caught out by being very busy out of season, food was great and I’d definitely recommend it. Staff are all friendly, from the receptionist who had a sore ankle to to the Manageress, the waitresses and night manager all made you feel very welcome. Everyone had a good attitude and couldn’t have done anymore to help us during our stay. Rooms are in need of a wee refurb but I’d still return as it is, given the friendly staff and reasonably priced food and drink, it’s a great choice for a wee random night away. 10/10 from me.

Great view of sea, harbour and village.

A large hotel dating back to earlier and different times but appeared to be well maintained in both the public areas and the room which was clean and well equipped. Bed was comfortable and a small point but important for me, decent wall lights for bedtime reading. Bathroom was spotless although I'm not great on shower curtains with a standard bath. Breakfast service was good, cooked items served to order, plenty of fresh fruit salad items and choice of cereals, yoghurt, croissants as well as toast. Preserves in the little plastic tubs but that's just me. Check in and out quick and efficient. Parking fine but might struggle if hotel was fully occupied. Situated on headland with lovely views, a path with steps leads down to the harbour.

Beautiful location with outstanding views. Very friendly staff. The port itself is a beautiful fishing harbour with a lovely pub/restaurant. If walking to the port harbour from the hotel you need to be quite agile as it's a cliff walk but the steps are very safe and there's plenty of benches to rest on along the way. Very amenable hotel.

This hotel has amazing views in the position above Portpatrick. Freindly staff and good facilities, I would stay here again at the drop of a hat. Food was great, enjoyable stay.

Brilliant setting, which could do with better signage at the entrance to the road.. Issue with our room was sorted quickly and well, although the replacement room was small and pokey under the eaves and with a tiny bathroom and one small window. Generally the room and especially the bathroom need a bit of TLC - lookin at furniture need and socket placement would be a start. It was OK for 1 night but for longer a definite no. That said the bed was comfy and the hotel was quiet. The restaurant was another matter. The person in charge of the kitchen, I will NOT call them a chef, needs training on how to pick salad leaves- just because they are bought "ready to eat" in a pack doesn\'t mean you don\'t need to check them over as some go off and basically turn to a rank brown "mush" before others. Serving them in such quantity is, frankly, in excusable. Menu also needs to be looked at - one slice of toast with a chicken liver parfait is not enough. Wait staff need to realise when there is no bread or water on the table as FIRST. "Steamed vegetables" is not a fair description of frozen peas and carrots mix and to overcook fish so badly is not something I have seen since the 80s :-( No wonder you can\'t find their menu on the website for love nor money. Stay for the views and avoid the restaurant at all costs!

Stayed at this hotel for 2 nights with mum for her birthday. All staff we spoke to were lovely. Room was clean, quiet and as expected. Only slight disappointment was the evening meal as they had a set menu and the food was average. I’d expected the a la carte menu as per previous visit. Second night we ate at a lovely pub in the harbour area so was no big deal as the hotel is within easy walking distance.

Despite requesting room to be cleaned, no one did this. Receptionist ended up doing it! Hot water in room not that warm. Breakfast very tasty but evening meals poor. We had a lovely stay. Breakfast and evening meals were very tasty. Every member of staff we met were kind and work hard to make your stay enjoyable. We are already looking to book here again for a short break.

Had to ask for milk and plates at breakfast, limited selection, coffee not great. Our sea view was a tiny window and in the eaves of building as was windy in evening had disturbed sleep from roof rattling.
