Flying Pig Downtown

Great stay, loads of activities in the hostel so meeting people when travelling solo was easy. Place has a kitchen you can use, including fridge and kettle

it is in real city center. you can go every touristic point by walk. Workers are so friendly and helpful. I don't remember the names but. reception and bar work perfect. reception. not just workers even other guests are have a good vibes. rooms and beds are very clean. I like to see more sandwich choose but foods, specially pizza. live saver and not expensive... smoke room terrace is good point for get new friends. lockers and save entrance is another plus points. but the location is unbelievable, check from web. you will understand what I mean. good luck guys.

The flying pig Uptown is where I usually stay and I enjoy that property more than the Downtown location. The Downtown looked like it was under construction, but it wasn't. It smelled like urine in the halls it smelled like urine in the room. There is no bike parking next to or near the hostel which was annoying because I rented a Fat Bike E-Bike. Check-in was a little rude, check-out was easy. The bartender was very strange and the cleanliness of the bar was subpar. Glasses with dirty rims, placed on the wet bar surface then stacked glasses, gross! The bed was very comfortable and you MUST wear earplugs because everybody snores, makes noise, turns on lights, opens and closes doors. I get its a hostel but my lord get soft close doors. I think its for true back packers with little to no money for a reasonable hotel. I was using to help save money, but I wont make that decision again. I will always just get an Airbnb or my own room moving forward. The times for a hostel stay are in my rear view window. I spent most of my day avoiding the Hostel going to different provinces in the Netherlands and only was able to get 4hrs of sleep at best. If you are young and your friends can rent a whole room 4-6ppl do it, but if you are Solo really heavily consider this review. You have been notified! Its overall average, ok, I did feel safe, but man getting in and getting out was rough. I had a bike battery and you need two hands to open the exit door. Overall worth what you pay.

The staff was fun and i liked that they offerd tournaments in the evening. It was so easy to meet new people

Overall very good facilities. Clean showers/toilets, shampoo and soap provided, towels available to rent at front desk. Security appears to be very good. Reception area doubles as a bar and can get crowded. Location is after all, very close to Amsterdam Central and the busy downtown area. Highly recommended if you're looking to stay in a great location and party atmosphere. The biggest variable as with any hostel stay is your potential roommates. If your lucky, you'll savor a quiet stay, if not....anything goes.

Not really enough space in the showers or bathrooms to change, so unless you’re comfy changing in a room with 30 strangers, expect to feel cramped in a bathroom stall. The cupboard next to our double bunk beds would have benefited from either a shelf or a coat hook so you don’t have to pull everything out to get to your bags. Not being able to access the kitchen until midday was a bit annoying, kind of forces you to have their breakfast, which is very good, but it meant we had to leave food in the fridge when we checked out because we couldn’t access the kitchen. Otherwise, the staff were exceptional and friendly, only really had a run in with one creepy guest, the smoking space and the happy room were lovely and created a really zen environment. I just wish there was less hip hop played in the smoking room, not the best playlist to get stoned to.

Love this hostel! It was one of the workers birthday and we all celebrated. It was so fun to make small talk with people as well. The bar can be chaos but if you need time to chill without so many people you can walk down stairs to the happy room (living room) and there is a full kitchen aswell. If I ever get a chance to come back to amsterdam i'm definitely spending a few nights here!

Dåligt för priset, rummen var i väldigt dåligt skick och väldigt dammiga. Mina sängkläder hade flera fläckar på sig och sängarna var väldigt osköna.

The property was disgusting. It reeked of cigarette smoke and overall just wasn’t in good shape. Toilets were dirty and lockers weren’t in the best condition either. Super loud and overall a bad experience. If you want a peaceful stay in Amsterdam, do not stay here.

I had a fairly negative experience at The Flying Pig hostel, which sadly was not alleviated by speaking with staff. In my first room, I could see dead bed bugs within the bed frame (stuck there in cobwebs). I brought this up with staff, they went into the room, inspected it, didn't see anything, and had me point out exactly where it was and still didn't see anything; this was quite awkward, as there were many other people in the room. However they did move me to an alternate 8-bed room. In the 8-bed room, I again found dead bed bugs, but this time in the bedsheets. At this point I accepted defeat and simply didn't say anything to the staff. In both of the rooms that I was in, they were dimmly lit (contrary to how the rooms are shown in the images), the area around the matress were disgusting (it looks like the sides/under the matress have not been cleaned in months), and the floor was made of some bizarre fabric-type material which I can't imagine get cleaned very well. At one point on my trip, I had left 500g sealed chocolate bars on my bed (planning to later place them into my suitcase). Hours later I had come back with a notice on my bed saying that the chocolate bars were moved to the kitchen. The chocolate bars were thankfully not stolen, but it was just so ridiculous to have sealed food items taken from my bed by the hostel staff. There were more negative aspects of this hostel, but I've reached the character limit. This hostel is NOT cleanly.

I really liked the location. It's few minutes away from Centraal station. It's close to a lot of attractions in the city. A lot of restaurants and shops around. I had an experience with bed bugs/insects on my second night. The staff responded promptly to my concern. They even helped me moved to a different room and gave me vouchers from breakfast and drinks. They even paid for drying my clothes and ointment. The facility was clean all the time. If you're into making connections to other people, they have social room and bar. Their breakfast is okay- toast, cereals, boiled eggs, juice and coffee. I got mine for free, but wouldn't pay for it and would rather eat out. The bed was okay, and seems clean except for the bed bug experience. I was very cautious every time I lied down though. The torage for personal belongings was a big cage under the bed, and was big enough for my stuff. I wish they had a common room where you can just eat food bought from outside. The staff were very friendly and accomodating. They explained to me their procedures and what was done with the bed bug incidence.

Relatively clean however the beds are simply too small, was difficult to get to sleep. The staff are lovely though and is in a great location.

If you’re looking for a good time at a hostel this is absolutely the spot. Basically a nonstop party especially with the smoking room lol. That being said it’s not so easy to get sleep here always as the dorms pack a couple dozen people. 100% a great affordable option downtown with easy walkable access to all Amsterdam has to offer

Great location, toilet and bed sheets kept clean. Staffs were kind. But no place to leave phone/small stuffs near the bed(e.g.bed table or shelf which are usually available in hostel bunkbeds), and too much additional fees (locker, lock, towel, key deposit)..no hair drier. and after adding all these small fees I wasn't even sure if it's worth staying in a hostel as it wasn't saving that much.

La chambre était simple, pas de penderie par exemple, mais des casiers. La pièce (chambre pour 4) était relativement spacieuse comparée à d'autres endroits. Le lit est confortable. Il y a un fumoir au rez-de-chaussée. L'établissement est situé dans une rue piétonne donc pas de bruit de circulation. C'est un bon rapport qualité-prix.

The Hotel was as good as expected. Up to 20 people in one sleeping hall is quite a lot and the beds werent the most comfortable but for the price it was a great experience and there is nothing bad to say. Staff was extremly polite and helpful also when there was an issue

5 stars for this hostel!? You've got to be kidding me. If I had the chance to give it negative stars, that would be apt. Pros - Location (that's it). Cons - - The moment I entered the hostel it felt like I've entered The Addams Family house; the hostel gives you a perfect feel of it's age 30+ years - They charged me 80£/night and gave me this bed with a tiny storage space below it. The bed as expected makes so much noise every time you decide to get down/get up. - No AC in the scorching heat of Amsterdam!! This made me move from the hostel on the very first night (I had a booking for 3 nights and spent 250£ but decided it's not worth spending the night here and waking up as if I've just come back from a jog). Money down the drain and had to make a move midnight!!! Thank you Flying Pig for that. I found a much cheaper hostel a little further from the city centre but with amenities that are worthy of being called a hostel. Spent 100£/3 nights and got AC, private bathroom, amazing social space, cinema hall, restaurant, superfast WiFi. Avoid at all costs. Instead go for Via, you'll regret spending money at The Flying Pig Downtown and thank me later for suggesting Via.

I felt like there could be a more relaxing space outside of the bar. Also, the dorm room felt a bit overcrowded, and there were a few people nearby who snored loudly, which made it hard to sleep

The stuff is super friendly, warm and helpful with giving directions on what to do and visit in town , safe and trustful… my first hostel experience and will do it again! Guys keep the good job

I was charged twice for the night and twice for a rental locker. Something is wrong with their system when I was there. Just beware.

Les employés sont vraiment sympas, le lieu convivial et tres bien situé( hyper centre) les espaces communs propres. Je recommande vivement !

Precisei apenas de uma noite em um stoppover e foi ok. Tive um problema com a recepção pois a cama que me disponibilizaram estava ocupada. O recepcionista me fez esperar por 1 hora para ele ir “conferir” como se eu estivesse mentindo ao dizer que tinham errado nisto. Trocaram a roupa de cama e estava bem limpa. O banheiro funciona, mas a pia estava meio entupida e o chuveiro direciona água para todos os lados, menos em você! (Quarto com 6 camas é bem apertado)

Just generally a very noisy place, if your a light sleeper dont bother staying here i literally didn't get a wink of sleep an when i finally nearly fell asleep a member of staff was shining a torch in my face claiming i didn't pay the city tax that I already paid the night before

El lugar y la gente que visitamos el lugar hace que te la pases muy bien, el personal que labora ahí es el problema, no sin nada amistosos, no tienen educación no son amables, solo una chica española fue súper chick conmigo y me ayudó en todo hasta la chica que es negra me discriminó por ser latino, cuando le hablé ni siquiera me miró a los ojos y su respuesta a la petición de quedarme un momento a descansar fue, “Ese no es mi problema” y continuó con lo suyo. Si planeas visitar el lugar, no esperes un trato amigable, chica española, tú si sabes cómo tratar a los huéspedes.

The best part about staying here was not only that it’s close to everything in walking distance but after the night ends and you go in the smoke room and talk to people all over the world!

Great location. For my first time at a hostel it exceeded my expectations . Staff was helpful. Layout is interesting coming from the US, but efficient . Would definitely book again!

El check inn fue sencillo , te dan tu llave la cual tiene acceso a todas las habitaciones , puedes pagar el desayuno y lo recomiendo porque si es bueno , de 7-10 am . Las habitaciones están sucias, oscuras, con olor a marihuana, no se puede prender la luz , no se puede hacer nada de ruido, no hay una banca donde poner tus cosas , no hay suficientes tomas para cargar cosas , la cama era confortable y con suficientes cobijas y en los baños comunales hay secadora. Yo personalmente tuve miedo que en la noche me agredieran y me robaran algo de mis pertenencias y no volvería a contratar este hostal ni aunque estuviera viajando con muy bajo presupuesto

The stay was great, everyone was very nice and they tried very hard to make my booking, which didn't work out at first. The toilets weren't always that clean, that was because of the other guests, comfort wasn't that good, it's more of a hostel and it was completely OK, breakfast was simple and good, I would go there again. The hostel even has a bar and a room to hang out, but the room wasn't for me, people were smoking there and it stank of smoke.

Anazing experience overall! Staff was so friendly and loved that there was a bar and didnt close till 3AM everyday ! Downside was some people had bed bug bites but hey what else donyou expect frima. Great time and great price!!! Will def be coming back

This place was amazing. Stayed with a friend and it was our first time in Amsterdam. The staff are so so friendly and welcoming. The location is excellent. The facilities are average for a hostel but they get the job done! Would definitely stay here again! <3
