Wife and I booked a 2-night stay for our first ever trip to San Luis Obispo. Arriving by Amtrak, we walked the one mile through a mix of residential and commercial neighborhoods. Our room wasn't available for early check-in so Jerry, Owner-Manager, held our luggage and delivered them to our room. Our queen bed room was spacious and included a desk/chair and small table with 2 chairs. We appreciated the original hard wood flooring, and the wood furniture. The TV and bathroom was on the small side. Towels were replaced daily to our pleasant surprise. The water pressure and hot water temp were decent. The property is being renovated so there is a mix of old with new (like SLO). No frills though there's free parking. It's an easy walk to the fun downtown area, and for those needing more steps, we also walked up to the Cal-Poly campus. Given the high prices for SLO lodging, the Sunbeam offered an incredibly value. The owner grew up in SLO, attended Cal-Poly, and had a corporate career before returning home to run the family business. It's a good feeling to support a locally owned business.

Very well designed efficient room, small but everything was there (coffee maker, mini fridge, microwave, enough and well placed electrical outlets). Staff very nice and well organized despite ongoing construction (they sent email with very clear check in and parking instructions. it is near the university so it's a very safe and lively area! Definitely recommend!

Room was nicely furnished, bed was comfortable, looks like they are upgrading the property as they have a lovely new office. Quiet, safe, owner was very friendly and when I left some of my jewelry he immediately texted me to let me know! Smaller, unique hotel, bathroom was rather small but had a wonderful showerhead and nice shampoo and bodywash dispensers. Larger refrigerator, nice microwave and coffee maker as well. Great price for what can be a very expensive area to find a hotel room in. Great place to stay when you are in SLO!!!

Room reeked of cigarette smoke and harsh, industrial cleaner that made me wheeze. Was incredibly loud right next to major thoroughfare. Could hear every step of neighbors above, and guest snoring on other side of wall. Air conditioner smelled musty, blew straight in my face in bed, and rattled too loudly to sleep with. This will not be my last visit to SLO, but will be my last stay at the Sunbeam.

Great stay! The manager was amazing and super helpful and responsive. The room was very clean and comfortable. I would have loved a few more tv channels. It was a yucky rainy weekend and I was stuck inside for a while and the channel selection is very minimal. But the location is great and this is a perfect little motel!

The staff could not have been more helpful. I don't know about anybody else, but I've been to plenty of hotels where they don't honor the Do Not Disturb sign. Happy to say, Sunbeam did! They helped us get replacement keys and check in late. The hotel is quaint and very SLO. I liked it.. it was like being at home.

This property was perfect for a quick work related trip. Jerry was extremely helpful and kind and even assisted with carrying my luggage upstairs after he learned I have bad knees. Check in was so easy and the location is convenient and close to downtown. I like that they offer Netflix. The cons are there are no elevators (bad knees) and the bed was softer than I prefer but the pillows were good. This is a quaint small property. I had no issues or concerns and would stay here again.

The front desk person was great! He let us check in an hour early, text us when the room was ready. And even moved our bags up to our room prior to our return. He went above and beyond. Super impressed by this motel, I've stayed at a lot of hotels and motels around the world and this genuinely felt as if i had my own condo and vibe/feel to it. Super easy to get downtown and the place was spotless and clean all time. Extra kudos to the owner Jerry, who was extremely helpful and was always on hand for any problems, which there were none! 100% will be coming back to stay onbmy next visit to San Luis Obispo!!!! Our stay started off with the friendliest staff member checking us in that I’ve ever encountered at any hotel property. The room may not be the biggest, but it was clean, renovated, had a coffee maker, microwave, and good-sized fridge. Very close to the freeway, but not close enough to hear any traffic noise. Nice being in SLO, while still just minutes away from Pismo Beach and Morro Bay.

Jerry is super nice. Easy check-in and check-out. Room was practical and clean. Mattress not that great but we stayed only one night so not a big deal for us. We also brought our own pillow. Microwave and fridge with freezer useful. The only down side is the traffic of Monterey street. You get directly to 101 highway which is probably why it's so busy.
