East Village Hotel

Overall a good option for the price. Great location. The address is deceiving because the entrance is not on First Ave., it's on 9th Street. It is a walk up and we stayed on the third floor which wasn't too bad even with my bad knees but I would have had a difficult time if we were on a higher floor. Our room was a corner unit and was cold, it was about 15° outside that night, and the heater was wonky. Communication with management was great. I had to call to get a cot removed from the room and they picked up right away and someone came within a couple of minutes to take it away. Only one real negative, the towels! The towels were clean but they were incredibly rough. We didn't use the kitchen facilities at all but it's a nice to have if you want to save on eating out. Also, you'd have to be creative about a sit down meal as there is no dining table but there are two chairs and a desk - or just eat in bed.

I was hesitant about staying at a "no staff" hotel but it turned out there were minimal problems. I booked the early option ($30) but had to call to get the necessary codes for my Noon early checkin. Other than that, there were no problems. The staff (on the phone) were very nice. I entered the hotel off of 9th Street and it seemed a little questionable on the outside, but inside, everything was fine. My room on the 3rd floor was one of the nicest rooms I have stayed in during my many travels. There was a kitchenette with stove top, microwave, refrigerator, dishwasher and dishes. The bed was very comfortable. I will stay here again. The only other issue is that they cannot store luggage - you have to take it to the Chelsea Pines Hotel, which is further away.

Loved this property. Housekeeping excellent. Great communication before hand about check in as it does not have a front desk. Easy to leave luggage on arrival and departure. Staff at sister hotel super lovely. We chose this property for the kitchen. Was easy to make our own meals.

This is a no-contact hotel, so no reception desk, keys, etc. The room was clean, modern, and had good air conditioning. My room was on the 4th floor (no elevator), so I got my steps in. The primary downside was noise from 1st Avenue, though the property provided earplugs. I would consider staying there again.

Really good little property in a great location if you want to stay in the East Village. The kitchen was handy, bed comfortable, suprisingly very quiet even facing onto 1st Ave. Was also very easy to get in contact with staff there even without any present on site. Just be aware there is no lift, however this was not a problem for me.

The hotel was able to meet my request for a lower-floor room. The amenities in the room were fine, and the surroundings were relatively quiet. I had some trouble with the mini fridge. First I couldn’t get the door to stay shut, then after I got that worked out, it froze my foods. I did have trouble with the door lock. It is a keypad and I always had to enter the code several times before I could get the door to open. That was frustrating.

Lighting in the stairways is inadequate. The stairs are narrow and need good lighting to make them safe

There is no person on staff at the property and so when our room lock was broken we were locked out in the hallway for over an hour late at night. Other than that it’s a decent little inexpensive nyc stay.

My stay at the East Village Hotel was excellent - the room was quaint and very clean. If you want an experience in the Village of NYC, then the location cannot be beat. The only negative I have is that if you want to store your luggage on the day of checkout, you either have to pay extra for a late check out or transport your luggage to another hotel ~ 1-1.5 miles away. This made for a tedious last day of my trip as it was raining and the other location was in the opposite direction of where I needed to be.

Poor outside cleaning areas

It was a small, but efficient room. Slightly dirty in the bathrooms upon arrival.

Basic room in dark and dingy hotel, with lingering cigarette smoke smell. Window would not stay open (we used hanger to keep open part way). Cheap blackout shade with broken pulls.

The hotel is contactless which was pretty cool. They email you a code to enter the building and your room. However, we were disappointed with the cleanliness of our room. The floors had not been swept or mopped in the bedroom, /kitchen area or the bathroom. There was a q-tip and hair on the bathroom floor and crumbs all over to bedroom floor. The shower door handle was broken, which was a little dangerous because the shower was slippery. The room itself was efficient with a desk, small kitchenette and queen size bed. The linens were clean. I did contact management and they were very easy to talk to and explain my complaints. However, because we were there on the weekend, we couldn't get a full answer of how they wanted to rectify the situation. Also, for some reason the water was turned off on the bathroom sink and toilet. If my husband wasn't so handy it would have been a huge problem, after waiting for someone to come up and look at the water. My husband figured out both of the valves were turned off... Weird. As of right now I am still waiting to hear from the hotel about a credit, I will update my review when I hear from them.

First room had dirty sheets but actually loved the room otherwise. Updated bathroom, wood floors, spacious for NYC. Was given another room which faced 1st so nosier which wasn't a problem for me. Enjoyed people watching a bit. The bathroom in this room needed updating. Fridge was not on and food rotted. When I turned fridge on, I realized that the reason the hotel didn't turn it on was because it was excessively and annoyingly loud. I wish the first room was clean because I preferred the updated bathroom and working fridge. Location is excellent. Rooms are nice. Wish I wasn't awakened every morning to the staff banging the doors on the security locks every time they go in and out to clean the room. Staff I spoke with on phone was friendly and helpful. Would stay again but not in room 12 because of the tiny shower, old cabinets, and loud fridge.

I have stayed at EVH before and am always very pleased. The rooms and hotel are very clean and very well stocked in kitchen and bath. For me, the location is perfect

This was a nice place to stay. Location is great if you like nightlife. The rooms were pretty clean and were comfortable. The price was insane but that's more a function of NyC. Overall I would recommend.

Clean hotel in great location. Room is small but adequate. Only drawback is the weak soundproofing, so noisy that hotel provide earplugs on nightstand.

Blackout curtains would be helpful. The roll down shade let bright light into the room aimed directly onto the bed. The location was great! Easy entry & exit into the building. Relatively quiet inside the room.

The location was great for us, and the decor was super cute with the brick wall and the queen size bed, and it was very clean, well laid out, plus the little kitchen was a bonus. AC worked well and was much appreciated as the weather was getting quite warm and humid. A few things were a little less pleasant. First, the towel bar in the bathroom of our unit was broken off, as was one of the hooks on the door. No big deal, since there was one working hook and another few hooks in the main room. Second, the shower curtain was made of cloth and just got soaking wet at the bottom of the shower. I don't know if they forgot to put a liner? Third, there was no fan in the bathroom, so it was hard to get dry in the steam. Lastly, and most importantly, our room was fronting 1st avenue, which was very loud, and then the room itself seems to not have any soundproofing. They offer free earplugs in the room, smartly, but even when my husband wore the earplugs, he couldn't ignore the sirens and such. I slept without the earplugs, and in addition to the sirens, it sounded like people were moving furniture in the room above us all night long. I couldn't figure out what they were doing! But yes, it probably would have been better with earplugs. I would do that next time, if we rented again.

The property is located in a good area, very close to the college. The room was clean but very small as with most NYC hotel rooms. Towels could have been better, they were very worn out as well as the linen on the bed. Our mattress was really old and the left side had a huge sunken whole which made sleeping extremely uncomfortable.

Clean room, spacious for NYC and a very good deal. Great location, near Sub and Bus stations. Great neighborhood. Handy kitchenette, read Amenities carefully- do not go by the pictures. I read reviews that complained about noise-- heads up, if you want a quiet room, go to the mountains. Every place in NYC is noisy. Yes, it is noisy- bring a white noise machine or use the furnished ear plugs. Will definitely stay here again.

In the heart of the East Village, this spot was convenient and full of dinner/nightlife options. However, there is no human service, elevator or amenities beyond what's in the room itself. In fact, I did not receive my door code to get into the property until close to midnight on my check-in date. I was onsite at 7 pm that night, having registered right before I arrived. I had to drag my luggage up to and down from the 3rd floor.

It is a good value in NYC, close to many good eating places and bars. It is a good base from which to explore New York. Walkable, public transportation nearby. The staff was very responsive on the phone (there is no reception desk), so my stay was good, no problem.

My stay was fine other than the fact that I paid for early check in and my email never arrived, giving me the entrance code. When I did contact them by the phone number provided for bag drop-off, they resent the e-mail and all was well, but by then it was the time of the normal check-in. We also had a lot of trouble getting in our room. It took many, many tries with the code to get the door to open. The staff said that it had been a problem with that lock. That was a bit unnerving especially late in the evening.

Although the hotel has no front desk, the check-in process was terrific as they sent emails and texts with information on how to gain access to the hotel and the room. Being in the East Village, the rooms are small but they have everything you need for a stay including a nicely stocked kitchenette! Daily housekeeping is available. And they even supply ear plugs (there was street traffic noise mainly during the day) so I slept soundly! Great spot if you want to be in the East Village area.

I appreciated the location and the ease of access to many different places around the New York City Area, the room was also very good too.

I thoroughly enjoyed my stay. The hotel had everything I needed. It’s very convenient to two subway stations. The area is safe and has a nice biz. I would highly recommend booking this hotel. I will definitely be coming back.
