Enjoyed our stay. The staff were particularly friendly and helpful. The room was spotless. The hotel overall however is much in need of an upgrade. The carpets, paintwork etc, very tired. Well situated for walking from the hotel along the river Tweed and further afield.

Wonder looking building from the outside, unfortunately the interior needs a little work. The room was clean and adequate for our needs but the shower cubicle was so small that it was difficult to turn around in it, the shower adjustment stuck out about 6” from the wall making it even smaller. The staff were all really helpful and a credit to the hotel. Breakfast was buffet style, The Games room was in a right mess, the pool table was uneven and the cloth needs replaced, the dart board and surrounding wall was another area that needs a major overhaul, the TV didn’t work and the games were very dated. The walls were riddled with dart holes. Needs to be shut down and revamped. Some of the stair carpets are thread bare on the edges. A good place to base yourself for sightseeing in the area. Would I stay there again? Yes I would as it offers value for money.

Staff is very friendly and helpful. The atmosphere is nice and quiet and the breakfast is good. Parking is easy but the hotel is also right on the Tweed Cycle route which makes it easily accessible by bike also. We really enjoyed our stay.

The room was large but looked quite basic on furnishings, but the bed was very comfortable. The corridor leading to our room smelt of damp which wasn't pleasant. We ate in the restaurant for breakfast & dinner. Breakfast was quite good in my opinion. At dinner the rules weren't explained to us (how to get a drink either from the bar or self service water dispenser). We felt the staff weren't particularly friendly & the company tshirts they were wearing weren't appropriate for the dining room. The 3 course meal wasn't of a very high standard & the pork roast reminded me of a ready meal & the food served wasn't a good quality & the staff didn't seem to care if we were happy or not. The communal areas were nice in presentation but I would not stay again nor recommend this hotel or chain to others. We found the stay to be a disappointment.

Great place to stay,yes a few areas are a little run down and tired but other areas are lovely and charismatic which I will take any day over a bland big chain run hotel, food is good and the staff are brilliant ,very quiet and lots of places to sit and relax with a drink.

Manager is very abusive I told him that the room he gave us was dirty and he proceeded to shout at me. I told him to stop shouting or I’m going to start recording. I have our in complaint to Expedia. Travelled 6 hours to stay here and I’ve never regretted a break as much as this. No veggie options in the breakfasts terrible hotel I would really stay away

I like the gardens. The property is tired and needs a renovation. Wallpaper is peeling off the wall. The shower drain is clogged and I have to wait 10 minutes to clear the dirty water and wash my feet with clean water again before i step out of the shower.

I'm guessing you get what you pay for a comfortable bed and food in the evening was lovely, breakfast was non descript the food was overcooked, the service was lacking ( none of this have you stopped here before, or can i explain the breakfast we were simple sent to a table) my main issue was the room didn't appeared to have been checked before we booked in, we had cobwebs, a wardrobe with pealing veneer and a bin in the bathroom which hadn't been emptied. We were also outside some time because of a (Thankfully) false alarm with the Fire Alarms, when the alarm went off we evacuated into the car park and waited patiently, not one member of staff came to see who was outside, no one took control until a gentleman arrived by car went quickly into the building - I'm sure that goes against Fire safety precautions, a short while later he emerged to say it was a false alarm and asked for patience while staff checked the whole building again as the alarm would not reset, We were allowed back in with the alarm silenced but not reset, thankful this was sorted within 30 minutes or so, if it hadn't been i would not have stopped as i couldn't have slept knowing there was a faulty fire alarm.

We couldn’t get WiFi in Room 1 so I asked if we could change rooms which was arranged. The rooms were clean and tidy and the bed was very comfortable. We were disturbed by loud music at about 8 pm one evening which we thought at first might be a Christmas party but when my husband went to investigate he couldn’t see anything, the barman told him that it was probably coming from the kitchen, it stopped after about an hour. Breakfast was good except for the poached eggs. The staff were friendly. I would definitely return a to this hotel

Hotel needs an update. Room was drab(not welcoming at all), marks on walls, woodwork chipped, dusty and ripped chairs. Bedding/towels were clean though and room was large with comfortable bed. No privacy screens on windows on the ground floor room. Wouldn't go back-was glad it was just 1 night!

Nice grounds. Reception on arrival helpful. Very dated/shabby interior. Breakfast staff asked me to wait outside as I was 3 minutes early, then when I entered they sat me at a table with another gentleman (I was a solo traveler) in a dining room with approximately 100 empty tables, moving me from the table I had chosen. Felt very uncomfortable. Ate and ran!

The welcome by staff was excellent and service during our stay was very good. The property has been neglected over recent years and attention is needed before it is too late. In the bathroom of Room 23 it was not possible to shower as the switch on the taps could not be moved. Meals were well organised and the menu choices were OK. Table service was excellent.

The room I was in looked recently decorated certainly not in need of a makeover like last year. However what makes this such a great place to stay is definitely the staff. They are friendly and efficient, the restaurant staff especially appeared to enjoy their work and happily engaged in banter with the diners alongside doing their job well

Whilst the food quality was fine, the offering was not terribly exciting and presentation could have been better. Range of food at breakfast was OK but not kept replenished quickly enough and there were only tinned tomatoes (Ugh!). It was only on the third morning that we realised that fried eggs were available on request., With a couple of exceptions, the staff were not very friendly or communicative.

The check-in was friendly and the room was clean and comfortable without being plush. Breakfast was fine, but I would have liked a selection of eggs, rather than just scrambled. The staff were friendly and seemed happy. In general the hotel was reasonable value for the money. It could do with a bit of freshening up, especially with the carpets. Only complaint was that we would gave liked to check-in an hour early, but there would have been a £10 charge.

Yvonne the receptionist was very helpful. I also enjoyed Jordan the barman and Michael the waiter who made us most welcome, all in all we had a great stay

Enjoyed our stay. The staff were particularly friendly and helpful. The room was spotless. The hotel overall however is much in need of an upgrade. The carpets, paintwork etc, very tired. Well situated for walking from the hotel along the river Tweed and further afield.

The Waverley Castle exceeded my (fairly low) expectations, as the room was clean, quiet, comfortable and contained everything I needed. The wifi worked well; the shower was fine if slightly lacking in pressure, and the heated towel rail was a boon. The hotel itself contains long winding corridors that look a little shabby. Reception was friendly and efficient. I paid extra for the breakfast which was not really worth it, as I'm largely veggie, and there were only scrambled eggs, tinned tomatoes, baked beans and potato cakes. However there were four possible cereals, juices, plain yoghurt and small bowls of fresh fruit salad, as well as toast (and prepackaged jam portions). The area is quiet, with the hotel set well back from the old main road, my room was on the side with a good view of a rather scruffy lawn (and plenty of rabbits).

This is a great “no -frills” hotel, a friendly, clean, tidy place, with access to many wonderful places to visit . A train station almost right next door , if you fancy a day in Edinburgh without your car. Lots of walks and beautiful little Border towns. Staff are friendly, attentive, and food is good for the price. Have stayed many times, and will do so again in the future.

Staff is very friendly and helpful. The atmosphere is nice and quiet and the breakfast is good. Parking is easy but the hotel is also right on the Tweed Cycle route which makes it easily accessible by bike also. We really enjoyed our stay.

It's a great location. 10 min walk to town. We were there for the 7s. Was good to have the choice of being in the brilliant choas and to get away it in the centre of town. Our room. 306 was massive. Well done out. Breaky magic for the price. Pizza.on Sat night was a life saver. I'd got back definitely.

We only stayed a short time due to our tight schedule, but we loved every second we did spend here! The property is gorgeous and the hotel is located in such a quiet area with no traffic. It's great for when you want to be close to Edinburgh without being right in downtown. Perfect escape from the city!

Lovely big hotel in need of refurb. Lovely staff,room was ok. Bits of carpet worn out. Decent price. Great location. Breakfast was small but adequate.

The welcome by staff was excellent and service during our stay was very good. The property has been neglected over recent years and attention is needed before it is too late. In the bathroom of Room 23 it was not possible to shower as the switch on the taps could not be moved. Meals were well organised and the menu choices were OK. Table service was excellent.

A lovely night stay in a twin room, with an extremely comfortable bed. Wouldn’t recommend to a perfectionist who likes everything prim and proper as areas of the hotel are a bit rough round the edges, however did not affect my stay one bit. Staff were warm and welcoming and the steak was absolutely beautiful. Breakfast included a great selection, both hot and cold. The restaurant settings were maintained to a high standard and very well staffed during my stay. The bar had a great selection of drinks. It was so convenient to not even need to leave the hotel. The only shame was that last orders was called at 9:45pm when it’s advertised to remain open until 12am. Either way, a lovely stay had and would definitely return again. Thank you!

The room was large but looked quite basic on furnishings, but the bed was very comfortable. The corridor leading to our room smelt of damp which wasn't pleasant. We ate in the restaurant for breakfast & dinner. Breakfast was quite good in my opinion. At dinner the rules weren't explained to us (how to get a drink either from the bar or self service water dispenser). We felt the staff weren't particularly friendly & the company tshirts they were wearing weren't appropriate for the dining room. The 3 course meal wasn't of a very high standard & the pork roast reminded me of a ready meal & the food served wasn't a good quality & the staff didn't seem to care if we were happy or not. The communal areas were nice in presentation but I would not stay again nor recommend this hotel or chain to others. We found the stay to be a disappointment.

Just back after 2 nights stay. Room comfortable however the bathroom is very dated and in need of refinishing. Had the 3course dinner both nights. Food was delicious but small portions. Very dog friendly. Lovely walk to the river at the back of the hotel. Overall we had a good stay and hope to be back soon.

This hotel needs some updating as everything seemed a little "tired" - especially the room. Whilst the food quality was fine, the offering was not terribly exciting and presentation could have been better. Range of food at breakfast was OK but not kept replenished quickly enough and there were only tinned tomatoes (Ugh!). It was only on the third morning that we realised that fried eggs were available on request., With a couple of exceptions, the staff were not very friendly or communicative.

The room I was in looked recently decorated certainly not in need of a makeover like last year. However what makes this such a great place to stay is definitely the staff. They are friendly and efficient, the restaurant staff especially appeared to enjoy their work and happily engaged in banter with the diners alongside doing their job well
