Rooms warm, beds comfy, Noise from air conditioners above (known issue being looked at) meant I moved rooms three times. Staff were good but it was frustrating for this to happen. Still noisy on the 3rd room, didnt bother to ask again. Suggest staying at back of hotel on lower level away from the noise of pub at the front Also to note - no lifts so if on top floor its four flights up. Location to shops, pub (dinner) and areas around Canberra made this a great location.

We were quite surprised at the quality of the renovations of the whole hotel. Fast check-in with the latest technology, and a spacious room. There is undercover parking, and next door is Coles, eateries, bakery and other services. Close to the main road to city and other areas. We enjoyed our stay and would stay again.

Two one night stays in one week. Likes - good sized room, comfy queen bed, efficient air con, good wifi Dislikes - vanity in bedroom with dripping tap, bathroom so small it is difficult to access the toilet behind the door, too many emails and SMS for pre check-in and then self check-in procedure and codes. No reception or staff to ask questions or help. Where is the secure gated parking? Sheets had not been changed (yuk) but who do you ask for another room at 9pm?

It is not a place to use if you have trouble walking stairs as it have stairs everywhere. Thin walls so you can hear a lot from the next room. No real breakfast available, just a bar with coffee and croissants.

Okay, rooms are a little dated, bathroom a little small BUT, bed was very comfortable, room was very clean and the shower was magnificent, never had that shower pressure in any other hotel. Room was quiet even though it is part of a hotel. Very happy with my stay.

Our room was very spacious and comfortable. The dining room and bar were very pleasant. I would have liked to have a freezer section in the bar fridge in our room for our freezer blocks( we had an esky) but on the whole a very pleasant stay and plenty of undercover parking.

The hotel was fine, the restaurant was great, so was the food and the staff. I would use it again, but not in the same room or that section of the building, as there was a compressor that kept on kicking in 24 hours. Daytime is ok, but during the stillness of the night is sounds terrible and kept me from having a good sleep. Whatever the noise, let someone have a look at it.

Expedia booking late evening. Digital code required which we were unable to obtain. No staff or contact for assistance, Had to leave and find accommodation elsewhere... numerous attempts both parties for refund weeks later. So upsetting and stressful. Please refund our money.

We have been to the Statesman many times over the years usually when in Canberra for doctor appointments and were very happy with the service.This time it had been upgraded and felt very impersonal, we had trouble using the code to open the door of the unit and there was no one on the desk to ask but a staff member happened to walk past and gave us a demonstration. Luckily we were eating with family nearby as the dining area was closed. The little fridge in the unit could not freeze our cool blocks that we needed for travelling when we left. We would stay again but be prepared for the changes we hadn’t anticipated.

I am disabled, alocated a room two floors up with no lift. Contactless checkin however we asked a member of staff walking through the foyer about changing our rooms. She got onto the phone and minutes later we were shown to downstairs rooms. We were so grateful for her kindness. Food in restaurant was great too and the young lady in the cafe was excellent making good coffee!

Staff went out of their way to help us move to a ground floor room after hubby hurt his back, (awaiting spinal surgery ,nothing to do with motel). They carried our belongings and helped hubby down the stairs. One young lady went out of her way to help in many ways, always with a smile on her face. Highly recommend

Location suited my travel needs but also offered easy access to public transport into Canberra CBD. Missing was information prior to arrival about the self-service checkin proceedure using door codes in place of collecting keys from reception. Missing was any printed information about housekeeping proceedures and details for contacting Reception staff.

This is a digital motel I.e. no reception or staff. The process is lengthy a bit frustrating when you have to keep providing information e.g. partner/wife’s details - actually it’s a punish. We had difficulty with the television as I note others have had through observing reviews. Secure car park was a joke as lines allow one car to park in between posts only, where if markings were done properly you could park 20 cars instead of 10, so outside for us. Price not worth it, when your bargain room has taxes added with a $100 deposit/ bond that takes up to 10 days to be returned. Won’t be returning or going through this process again.

Bed was extremely comfortable. Trucks servicing Cole and bins were very loud in the mornings. Secure parking was excellent. Digital Checkin was great and lovely not having to carry a physical key. I would stay again and would recommend if you are looking for a budge friendly option.

We had a family trip to Canberra for 3 nights and really enjoyed our stay at the Statesman. The Statesman is a hotel/motel in the traditional Australian 1960's-80's style and has had a real glow up to bring it up to modern specs. We had interconnecting rooms to accommodate 2 adults and two kids. The rooms were very clean, had good amenities and the beds were very comfy. We enjoyed dinner in the Policy Restaurant in the Hotel one evening and it was great. Very good pub food and a lovely atmosphere with local families and groups also enjoying the cosy, friendly ambiance. We also ate one night at Two Blind Mice, which was a great casual restaurant a one minute walk from the Statesman. Evoke Bakery two doors down, was also fantastic for croissants and coffee and pies and breads, a really good bakery! Coles is also in that same set of shops, so the Statesman is really well served by local shops. Close to all the cultural institutions in Canberra City as well as the Zoo and Arboretum. The Statesman is a different style of accommodation, to say, a Meriton, etc. But for a very economical and pleasant stay, I would absolutely recommend the Statesman.

A+++ on customer service. The price was more than fair. I don't think I've stayed in a hotel room that was cleaner or as well-maintained unless it was a 5-star luxury hotel. Great location and extremely convenient as there was a fantastic restaurant on-site (try the curry chicken dish!) and a mall with restaurants and other amenities right around the corner.

First time stay and did hope for better. The food was especially ordinary. Gnocchi with boiled corn and peas. A vegetarian dish perhaps. Flavorless. Sirloin steak the next night was more like round steak, lucky there was pepper sauce to save it. Vegetables were boiled with dry hard mash... room was tolerable with a tiny balcony, not worth using, and a lounge that reminded me of Fozzie Bear.... Despite that bed was comfortable and a nice warm shower...the only pluses...
