Leo House

I have been to NYC many, many times. It's my favorite city to visit. So, you can guess how many hotels I've stayed in there. I've recently completed my 2nd stay at The Leo House and can tell you that I will come back again and again and again. It has everything I need. It's in a safe and convenient neighborhood, with easy access to The High Line, the subway, and tons of food options. It is older, and some of the finishes reflect this. BUT - it is clean, it is safe, the staff is friendly. I really enjoyed sitting in the courtyard garden for work a couple of days I was there. It's a lovely, enclosed, private garden where you feel miles away from the hustle. The breakfast is adequate and the coffee is good. For me on this visit, the laundry room access was a huge benefit. It's $1 a load to wash and $1 to dry. The machines are in the basement and they are in very good working order. Overlook the older furniture and fixtures in the room. You don't need those to be fancy. You're in NYC, baby! Sleep, wash, and go outside to explore! Absolutely the BEST value for NYC.

I give a huge shoutout to the staff who made me feel at home. Incredible breakfast!! Better than most American hotels. Office staff,especially Natalie, were wonderful. I had a big issue regarding a bus tour. Natalie helped .e on tbe computer and printed documents for free. My room and shower rooms were very clean. I had beautiful new towels. Room had comfy bed, 1/2 bath, tv. AC. Desk, 2 chairs, large closet.House had several living rooms, larhe foyer with tv, water station. outdoor courtyard. I felt very co.fortable and safe. Excellent location to walk to Highline, Chelsea Market, Little Island. Macys, Empire State BuildingTimes Square, Vessel, Edge are farther, but doable.Rates are

The Leo Jouse is friendly, plain and simple. The people at the buffet say good morning to you. The desk people say good night and remember you. The rooms are quiet, a bit old and plain but all that you need. There is even a chapel and a courtyard on site, as well as a business center. I was very pleasantly surprised about the hotel and I’d be happy to come back.

The property was very old and charming! It was quite clean too! The daily morning breakfast was excellent!, and had a lot of choices! The staff was very nice! The only issue that I really had was that one of the two elevators broke during my second day!, so it made it very hard to get the elevator!, especially on checkout morning! It was very frustrating for sure! (And no stairs to take either!). It was a very quaint place! And the price was very reasonable too!

We loved staying at The Leo House. The staff were excellent, we really enjoyed our stay. The hotel is no frills, but does provide a varied included breakfast, workspace, WiFi in the rooms and has laundry room. Really well situated too.

Comfortable and welcoming, older style hotel, full of character. Everything needed is there and works and a generous breakfast with an extensive choice is included. I had no problems with noise in the heart of New York and slept well each night. The location in Chelsea, just a couple of minutes from the 23rd Street subway on the E line makes for easy transfers to and from JFK and an ideal base for exploring Manhattan and further afield. Helpful and welcoming, 24 hour, Reception with a luggage store for early arrivals or late departures and Housekeeping are unobtrusive and keep everything in order. Highly Recommended.

The property is amazing, the breakfast was a lovely inclusion, with also a microwave in the common area, ice machine and very affordable laundry. With the wonderful staff and location this is a wonderful stay.

The Leo House is a mixed bag. The comfort depends on find their restrictions, and what staff you encounter, and fellow guests. When you check in, you need to sign a release waiver, and fill in your email address. This felt sketchy, because Hotels.com generates an anonymous one for a reason. The guy at the desk seemed intent on just _getting over with it_, and rolled his eyes at my questions. He didn't seem friendly to me or the other guests. It’s required to turn in your room key over to the reception desk any time you leave. You’ll be able to get it back when you re-enter and mention your room number to the reception. This, too, seems sketchy (not to mention unsafe) as heck. They may have a reason for it (maybe there’s a history of people losing their keys), but this seems to be a strange and dogmatic way of moving a problem to the guests. There was also something about guests not being able to enter after 12am… Sometimes? It wasn’t really clear why, but it seemingly had something to do with the desk being occupied by security during that time, and not reception personnel. Generally, the staff is kind, compassionate, and helpful. Except for the guy that checked me in, everyone I met seemed friendly. The room has a loud AC (aimed at the bed), and is super noisy. You also *will* hear your neighbours. Showers are shared. This may be great in the off-season, but in the summer I would hesitate to recommend it.

Really excellent place to stay. Fantastic value for money, excellent location, quiet rooms, appreciated the hot and cold water for drinks. Very good, plentiful breakfast and lovely outside area.

Bathroom was not serviced upon check-in & entry. Dirty towels on the floor. Toilet unflushed. Trash strewn about / used soaps / half empty water bottle under bed / no clean towels in bathroom. Had to inform and request new towels @ front desk despite being 7-8 hours late to my check in (trip was delayed, only stayed for one night, mainly for sleep). The room itself (311) is very small, but has a decent twin size bed (for one). Hotel won't let you leave with your room key (fyi, wasn't aware of that ahead of time) but front desk is avail 24/7. TV did not work, btw, and neither did the Wifi (not sure they even offer Wifi). Phone Signal is pretty poor while inside. Complimentary breakfast is OK, not worth getting up for IMO. Wished I had skipped it altogether, slept in, or just stayed somewhere else tbh. While the staff was nice to me, and apologetic re: towels, unserviced bathroom, et.al., I would not stay here again.

This hotel is dirty and just awful. It’s like a backpackers hostel not a hotel. The room was so dirty, we booked 3 nights and stayed 1 as it was so bad I felt so unclean. The staff are so unfriendly, not approachable. With exception of the manager Natalie who helped us get a refund so we could move to another hotel. Don’t mind an old hotel, old furniture etc but unclean is not ok.

there were cockroaches in my suite

Room was clean and safe. A bit worn but fine for a single night. Staff was nice and helpful. Building was very nice.

While the room and bathroom are overall clean, there's a great amount of white dust on the sheets comforter and pillows, and carpet. Otherwise a very good value and convenience.

Place is nice and clean

Stayed here a few times. Staff are always nice & helpful. The hotel is clean, and the breakfast is excellent. In a nice area of Chelsea, only a minute away from the subway station. Fabulous value for money.

BED BUGS

I found the Leo house an affordable option in a city that is known to be expensive. The staff were mostly friendly and helpful. The hotel itself is old and the rooms are basic but I found it perfectly adequate for my needs as I was out exploring the city for most of the day and just needed somewhere safe and clean to sleep which the Leo House provided.

Shared showers are dirty

For the price i would recommend Leo House. While an older building, it was clean and the location was great. Close to the Subway and High Line. Also not that far to walk to places such as the MSG and Times Square. The only downside was at the time of my stay there was no WiFi on my floor.

There are no showers in the rooms and the rooms are very small

It’s old property, property is not neatly maintained. If you are hardly in the room then it’s decent to just spend nights but I cannot imagine spending time here on a holiday. ACs makes such loud noise. Not a pleasant stay

The room was a bit spartan, the bed and bathroom were clean. Communal shower in the hallway close to our room. Breakfast was delightful. Let’s face it, if you’re in the city, you’re not gonna be spending a whole lot of time in the room. I would stay here again.

No wifi in your room, also if you stayed on the 4th floor, no working T.V, in any room,

Breakfast comes with fresh fruits and almond milk and is sufficient for a good start into the day. The rooms are a bit outdated, probably not been refurbished since the 60ies, but everything is clean and in good shape. Walls are pretty thin though, they do provide earplugs for a reason ;-)

Breakfast was excellent, but the place is just really noisy. Other guests make noises at all hours And The whole place just need a major upgrade. Great location for Subway access and there’s a target about a block away

No attached bathroom for the room we got. When we booked it's showing the bathroom attached to the room but we had to use a shard bathroom. I have made my dissatisfaction to the front desk and the staff

Staff were really nice & accommodating. Room was as per photos but clean. Share bathroom was easy to navigate.

One of the worst hotel experiences of all time. Predatory management, which stole our security deposit because we were a few minutes late coming downstairs to check out because we lost a button. They take pleasure in screwing over their guests; seem entirely fueled by spite. Also, the plumbing and heating were incredibly loud and woke us up several times during the night. Just hilarious that a Catholic guesthouse would be the most uncharitable place you could possibly stay. Avoid the Leo House at any cost. It’s a scheme and a ripoff. They will find a way to steal your money.

Some of the people of the stuff were great, others rude. The hotel Is ok for the price and it has a nice breakfast . But I felt controlled there, like they didnt allow me to have a guest, they Made you leave your key when leave the place, they reject amazon delivers... Things that didnt make me feel "like home" at all.

This was our first stay, and I thought, "How come I never discovered this earlier?" Between the location, the price point, and the excellent breakfast, this is the hotel you will return to again and again because it's perhaps the most affordable, safest, most centrally-located at around $200/night. Staff were helpful, pleasant, room was space conscious yet efficient, and my husband and I were very pleased. I'll definitely book again.

For the price and location of the hotel, the Leo was an absolutely amazing stay. Rooms were always clean and comfortable, the staff were very friendly and helpful, and the whole hotel had a very cozy atmosphere. Would definitely stay here again!

The breakfast was one of choice. You had the bread bagel option. Then you then went down the fresh fruit with yoghurt. There were always bananas and big old red juicy apples to go with the sliced watermelon and strawberries. Then you had the scrambled/boiled egg, cooked meat of the day option.And then it was the make your own waffle option, which was entertaining to watch. The room was what i expected, no thrills. It was always spotless when i returned in the evening. The front desk staff were amazing especially Gwendolyn who i have to give an 11/10 for all her help and advice during my short stay. I'd stay there again for sure.

Last stop on a cross country trip, and sadly our run of good luck with hotels and people we'd met came to an end. From literally the first moment we walked through the door, the general mood of the majority.of the staff was that they're job would be so much easier without guests. Very unwelcoming greeting with minimal information provided at checkin, including not advising/confirming that there is no breakfast on a Sunday. The rooms are very dated but are clean and tidy. The internal and external noise is considerable, party due to traffic which they obviously cannot do anything about, but also because the door handles cannot be turned when leaving the room, meaning that every departure is accompanied by a loud echoey bang. Housekeeping is excellent and looked after us fantastically. The demeanour and attitude of the staff was confirmed upon our checkout when our cheerful goodbye and thanks was greeted with absolute silence and ignorance from the four people behind then desk (one of whom was the unwelcoming lady from initial check-in) Overall the Leo.serves a purpose and is in an excellent location, but is sadly let down by the majority of front facing staff and very loud and sleepless nights

Near train station, good restaurants

I was impressed with friendly staff, great walkable location, nearby subway stations and free breakfast. It feels safe to walk around neighborhood even after midnight . Shower was clean even its sharing for entire floor. Happy with my stay

Location it’s a go to

Had a great stay at Leo House. Great location (25min walk from Empire state building). Room was quiet and comfortable and breakfast was great. Subway station is pretty much few steps away.

This is in a great location and the staff were great. Beds were comfortable and it was quieter than most hotels. Close to a lot of restaurants and about a 15 minute walk to MSG.

They are definitely "ballin' on a budget". The breakfast meat was delicious ham, but they rolled each piece and drizzled honey on it. Breakfast was plentiful. It ends promptly at 10am. There is a nice affordable deli on the block.

The breakfast at the Leo is very good, surprised to see all the fresh fruit. Note that it starts at 7:00 AM and is not available on Sunday. The location is very close to many subway entrances and we found it easy to navigate considering we don't use a subway at home.

The hotel was good and staff was amazing, however, breakfast was meant to be served till 10am, twice it happened to us the breakfast items finished by 9am and 0920am, the fruits for the yogurt were finished and were not replaced which was disappointing
