Parking was good but @ £5 extra per day. Very little entertainment.

We booked a family room for family of 3, the room was super spacious, nice sea view (slightly far), comfortable beds. Bathroom were renovated but not modern but good size. Location was excellent and very lively throughout the day and night. Great pub right next to it. Main market was 2 mins walk, had good food options and other entertainment options. Ryde Ferry Terminal is literally opposite to hotel and a train station which runs island wide. Only downside was hot summer as the hotel did not have air-conditioning, provided small table fans but they weren't sufficient so it was pretty hot. Breakfast was okay with typical British menu, limited options with limited 2 hours in morning. Check in was smooth and the lady was very polite and kind to let us choose the best room we liked in the booked category. Staff was very polite and courteous, except a few who were strictly abide by policies to not allow a little extra time for checkout and placed a charge for taking an extra hour despite having no future bookings in place. Check in and out timings are curtailed by an hour i.e. 4 pm and 10 am which is not usual. They have a small car park, which needs to be booked in advance for GBP 5 overnight, subject to availability. However there are plenty of off road parking available right outside of the hotel. Overall I would rate it as a good stay and would recommend looking at the Pros over Cons.

It is an amazing experience as it is near the beach the train , the buses and a lot of shops around . The parking its not specified that you have to pay £5 a night and it needs to be reserved with the hotel reception . The wifi connection not great in the rooms

This hotel is 190 years old and quaint. If you like history then you'll love staying here. Great English breakfast. Warning for all you I-phone, I-Pad junkies. They only have Wi Fi in the Lobby NOT in the rooms and no Outside telephones. Welcome to the 19th Century. We loved it. The Staff is fantastic as well.

This is an older hotel so there is a small lift and lots of stairs on different floors. They have updated some areas over the years so my bedroom and ensuite bath were modern and clean with WiFi and a good size TV. There was no air condition so windows needed to be left open on a hot, humid night. Staff are very friendly and accommodating. The breakfast was standard British hotel fare and was tasty, it is so convenient to the pier, shops and restaurants that I would stay here again.

Had a 2 night stay recently, booked a standard single room which was dated but clean, warm & had tea / coffee making facilities tv etc. The restaurant was having a refit so no evening meals at this time ( but you were welcome to bring in a takeaway ) also breakfast was continental & not cooked, I presume while work was being carried out in kitchen/ restaurant. The staff I met were friendly & helpful .... would I stay again ? Yes ! Oh & in the summer months Harry's Bar has quite a nice decking area outside.

This is a really nice hotel. It is retro in some good ways, with a very friendly, helpful staff. Breakfast is superior. The location can't be beat. The only irritant is the Wi-Fi, which is spotty on the ground floor and almost non-existent in the upper rooms.

Just what you would expect from a Victorian hotel. No key card entry, air con, USB sockets. Not as fresh, bright, airy, or modern as you might like, but it is what it is, and has some character. Room 74 has incredibly squeaky floorboards and provides an adequate location for sleeping and washing. The place was clean enough and the staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. I only ate here for breakfast, having the buffet selection and full English, and they were perfectly adequate. All in all, it was the perfect location to catch the hovercraft, do parkrun and have a mooch around for a day.

Only problem was room 30 was above the kitchen and the extractor fan went on most of the night and the hum and noise was bad

Small room. Decor tired. Carpets stained. Bedside lampshade water stained and had dried on food. Bathroom only had hand shower. Breakfast servers were disorganised. No fresh fruit or grapefruit as advertised.

The Royal Esplanade was the perfect spot for our stay in Ryde. It is just across from the main bus transfer spot to get the Breezer and Coastal buses. It is clean and has an excellent cooked breakfast included with the rooms. I will stay there again when we return to Ryde.

Room was clean. Dinig options were excellent and flexible. All the staff were friendly, approachable and very helpful.

The staff was very attentive. Good meal options. The windows need some attention as not clean. Cobwebs on ceiling were seen.

I thought the bedroom was average not that clean so we didnt stay and lost 185pound which was way to hugh for that room.

We were a bit disappointed with the hotel and with the unexpected parking charge of £5 per day to park 60 yards away in an unsupervised stony yard. The hotel room was clean and well decorated but the cleaning service was not too good ie towels not folded in morning, tea bags not replenished, bed not made up very well. The Dining Room was nice but the service was disorganised and it was obvious that the coach party there at same time was their main priority. We were informed that a 6.30pm evening was available and that we were allocated a table for the stay, however after the first day they changed the time to 7.00pm without informing us and we were told just to sit anywhere there was an empty table. The service was hit and miss, I heard several guests commenting to the waitresses they had been waiting half an hour for their food. The furniture in the lounges was old and tired with split leather seats and worn carpets. We would only rate this hotel 3 star at most and will not be returning and will not recommend this to any of our friends.

There was nothing to say good about the hotel room was dirty from previous guest, towels very poor quality no hot breakfast avalible ,staff could do with training more intrested in talking behind reception instead off paying attention to guests,staff untidy looked more like no uniform day at school,maintance more of a hindrance to receptionist, hotel needs modernising view from window was all the crap ,heating bairly worked ,shower room only fit for children

Ist room in attic,not ideal,mattress cheap spring.Metal bed. Compact.High windows felt clostraphobic.Upgrade for £20 to large front facing sea view. Better bed and space.

Early wake up call by the hovercraft takes a bit of getting used to in a room at the front. Otherwise very pleasant stay, restaurant particularly good, staff all delightful, lovely sized room and pleasant view over the sea.

We liked the breakfast and the lobby. We disliked the fact that our toilet did not flush properly and that we had to report it for three days before action was taken. The WiFi was spotty.

Staff friendly enough but hotel and rooms are very tired and in need of complete refurbishment. There is no double glazing so spent most of the night awake listening to the yobbos screeching up and down the main road on motorbikes.

We booked a sea view room, but the single glazed windows meant it was noisy. There is major engineering work happening across the road all through the night which we felt we should have been made aware of when booking as it affected our sleep. The walls between rooms are thin, meaning you hear your neighbours television (at 5am), and the curtains do nothing to cut out the street lights. There was a sliding door to the bathroom, which was easily dislodged from the track- just not user friendly. Tea and coffee was served in vacuum jugs, the coffee wasn’t very warm. There was a limited buffet selection, but the cooked menu had several options. However, my scrambled eggs were overcooked and the toast was rubbery. The lift only went 1 floor towards our room, leaving 2 flights of stairs to negotiate with my walking stick and our bags.

Decent English hotel. Wasn't told that parking had to be pre booked so we parked in the seafron car park. We arrived 20 minutes before end of breakfast and we were shown to a table that had crumbs all over it and it wasn't cleaned for us. Had to ask the menu and for teaspoons for coffee. Not much choice for breakfast, very small menu and no pastries. Check in at 4pm is late compared to other hotels. Room was lovely and bed was comfy. Nice big bathroom. Hot water wasn't hot as I didn't need to use any cold water when having a shower. Staff were pleasent.

The room was lovely, clean and bright, the staff very friendly and attentive, breakfast was very nice and dinning room smart and clean. The only downside I found was having to hand the key in every time you went out, it was a bit of a pain having to queue to get the key when staff checking people in Saying that I would still stay again.

We were staying at the hotel for a RAF Regiment reunion, hotel staff were very friendly and helpful and always happy to help. Breakfast was lovely and hot and had a good varied menu. Our room was clean and well presented, with a good choice of hot drinks available, perhaps a bottle of water would be good too. All in all we had a fantastic stay and will be returning next year.

When we arrived to check in we were greeted immediately and given a clear, precise, professional warm welcome. The twin room we stayed in was very clean, spacious, the right amount of accessories & most importantly a comfy bed. There was a welcome book. This offered us any information we required & included a history on the place. Happy with the breakfast quality. For me, a rare occasion where I literally had nothing to complain about & could just focus on enjoying my stay. Well done. Would recommend.

The door to my hotel room was left open by the cleaner all day. I was extremely concerned. How would you feel knowing that anyone could have gone into your room and gone through your belongings? It's not a nice feeling at all. I notified the staff but heard nothing back from them either during my visit or in response to my email.

Excellent service by staff. Accommodated us with bikes and were very helpful. Plenty of restaurants and shops nearby. Good selection for breakfast

Great location near the beach

A great hotel with nice rooms and friendly staff. Check-in was easy and quick. A great location being close to the town centre, bus station, Hovercraft terminal and Pier for Catermaran boat services to Portsmouth. It would have been nice if the check in time could have been a little earlier, as 4pm is quite a late time to start check in otherwise everything else was excellent. The breakfast was nice as it was included in the price of the room and you had the choice of a full English breakfast.

It was easy for transport and the staff were very polite I have stayed there several times and never disappointed

The staff were very friendly and helpful, the breakfast was excellent and the view good. Unfortunately, the walls were rather thin and the people in the next room came in at 1 oclock and started playing music and we had to get up to tell them to keep quiet. There was also a lot of street noise from revellers, not helped by single glazed windows.

Traditional hotel with a fabulous seafront location. The room and bathroom were a good size. Very comfortable bed. We opted for an upgraded sea view room which was lovely… but if you’re a light sleeper br prepared for both hovercrafts starting up at 6am!! Good selection for breakfast.

The hotel was strategically located near the buses and ferry.

The property is lovely and convenient, and the service is terrific. The staff was simply exemplary. The view from a sea side room was great. However, the peacefulness was disturbed by the continuous sounds from the hover across the street and the nearby construction which continued until midnight every day.

The breakfast room had flies flying around in it and the cooked breakfast was very basic. Hotel rooms were clean but outdated. The towel rail didnt work.

We booked 2 rooms - the premium room was very nice. The double room was in a rather noisy part of the hotel ? Due to building works ? We were disappointed to be told the kitchen was closed so only a continental breakfast was on offer - and we missed that because service ended at 09h30…. Given there was no hot food it would have been good for the continental breakfast to be served for longer so that we could have had it… other than that we were happy with the stay - it was good value for money overall and in a good location - close to the beach and other restaurants.

We totally enjoyed our brief two night visit. Every staff member we met was friendly, professional and exceptionally helpful. The full English breakfast was delicious and we thoroughly enjoyed dinner in the dining room. We intend to encourage family and friends to visit IOW and stay at the Royal Esplanade. Exceptional!

A older traditional hotel but very busy. Room had great view of the Solent and all the activity around the waterside and transport hub. Meal in restaurant was very good and good value. Very convenient location

This is a traditional "old fashioned" English hotel but has a lot of charm. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. We booked a superior room with view of the Solent and it was well worth the extra money. Lovely, comfortable room and the view was great. It was fun watching the hovercraft coming in and out. Breakfast was good (although the coffee was pretty awful). We had a very enjoyable 2 night stay.
