Poas Volcano Lodge

Poas Volcano Lodge is a beautiful property! It is so welcoming and it feels like you are coming home when you arrive. The property sits on 10 acres in the hill country overlooking an incredible view of the valley and 3 volcanoes. If you have the opportunity, stay in one of the volcanoe view rooms, you won't be disappointed. Breakfast and dinners in the dining room are slow and intimate with fresh farm-to-table choices. The staff is all local, and are very kind and accomodating. With the slow paced feel, there are still some things to do on the property as well as in the surrounding area. Be sure to grab the boots and walking sticks and wander through the 10 acres, it feels like you've stepped into another world! Cozy up with a book by the small fire in the great room. Do some bird watching with their binoculars. Play games down in the game room. Sit out on the grass and enjoy the views. In the area you can tour a local strawberry farm, tour the Doka Coffee Farm, peek into Poas Volcano, spend a day at La Paz Waterfall Gardens, have coffee at the local coffee house, and so much more!

This place is simple amazing. The main house is a villa with many areas to sit and relax, read, add there's even a pool table if you're into this game. The room I took was a garden room. It's pretty basic but had everything I needed, and I loved the little balcony with the chairs to sit out and relax.

The architecture was rustic mid-century modern and the grounds were absolutely beautiful. The firestoves in the side reading rooms made the atmosphere cozy while the large viewing windows gave us the feeling that we were sitting outside with the sweeping views. Fireflies at nite off the garden room was magical. Staff Andrew and Javier were wonderful. The lodge was super close to Poas Volcano NP and an easy drive early in the morning and the staff worked with us to get breakfast to us quickly that morning so we could make our 8am Poas reservation. Could improve: 1. We could not reach the lodge directly to ask questions and to make a reservation either through the website or through the phone number. We ended up going through Expedia. 2. The room (#4) was amazing but had a musty smell 3. The time from ordering dinner at the lodge to the time it was served was an hour. The food was really delicious (chicken with mushrooms and seabass with mango -- it was just a long wait. The lodge is unique and lovely and we highly recommend staying here.

unique and wonderful building and property, in the clouds on some days. cool evenings. loved all the little woodburning cast iron stoves. beautiful place. Quite a trip to get there but well worth it.

Nice facility, clean rooms, great meals, walking trails on property

Beautiful, rustic rooms and lovely lodge. Great gardens and trails for bird watching and surrounding areas close by were scenic and enjoyable. The lodge provided convenient transport and Wilbert was our driver. He went above and beyond with showing us the area. Thank you 🙏

If you have the chance to stay in the Poas region this is an amazing hotel to spend a couple of nights at. A comforting blend of Welsh country farmhouse and Frank Lloyd Wright architecture this is a place of rest and relaxation nestled into its surroundings. Curl up with your favourite book in the glass walled library with a tiny woodburner giving a cosy warm glow, add a glass of red wine and you will feel like you are welcomed into an English country house or head down to the pool table and games room after dinner. Friendly welcoming staff, lovely dinners (very reasonable pricing) means that everything is provided on site. We were only there for 2 nights and didn;t get to try the walking trails. The only improvement we could suggest would be a fridge in the rooms.

One of the top scenery hotel with elegant decorations and great bedding. Many trails options, high end dining with millions dollars view. Love it. I will comeback .

Poas Volcano Lodge is a place that leaves you with lasting memories! From the incredible surroundings to the stunning interior that provides a “I wish this were my home” feel. We really enjoyed relaxing and reading our books in one of the several sitting areas. The wood burning stove added an extra warmth to the experience. The hiking trails right at the property were enjoyable. Having to navigate around the cows just added to the experience. We also enjoyed both the breakfast and dinner we had here. You could tell that they use fresh and locally sourced ingredients for the meals.

The Poas Volcano Lodge is a magnificent piece of architecture. The rooms are huge, the beds and other furnishings are all top quality, and the woodwork is very impressive. The common areas are grand and inviting, the grounds are verdant with a few impressive sculptures. The off-season rates are very reasonable. We loved it! The one area that has room for improvement is the restaurant. Although the staff was very friendly, the meals were average at best. There seemed to be poor communication between the front desk and the restaurant staff regarding pre-ordered breakfast.

I can't recommend this lodge highly enough. The staff are wonderful. Breakfast is great. Rooms are cozy. The reading and game rooms are terrific... wonderful fires at night. Everything is very, very clean.

We loved our stay in the Poas volcano lodge. The lodge and room were cosy, a real home from home, with a British feel to it (the owners are English). Everything was very clean. There are lots of nice touches, such as the library and games room, and some good trails to walk around the farm. The volcano was a good half hour drive away and was shrouded in cloud when we stayed, but we so enjoyed our visit to the lodge we didn't mind too much! The waterfall gardens are only 10 mins away and are well worth a visit. We had a lovely and reasonably priced (for Costa Rica) dinner in the restaurant with charming service. Breakfast the next morning was a little slow, and we had to forego the hot dish as we had an 8am volcano booking, so I would recommend booking the National Park for 8.30am instead if you want a full breakfast beforehand. Would definitely recommend and would stay here if in the area again. It's less than an hour's drive from the airport so the perfect final night option and much nicer than staying in San Jose.

Nice lodge with good food, lots of birds around the property. Clean rooms with hot water. No AC but not really required at that elevation. No complaints!

Staff was great. Everything about the property was great. Only issue is that the rooms had issues with fire ants. We had moved rooms because our first room had them all over the floor coming up through the wood planks. They had us Move to a different room that seem to not have them but when we woke up in the morning, they were everywhere. We were originally booked for one night, but decided to leave for the second night since my partner is severely allergic to fire ants. Other than the issue with the fire ants it was a really gorgeous property with wonderful views!

Food is delicious, super fresh with many products (butter, granola, strawberry jam, cheese) made on the property. Convenient to Poas Volcano and La Paz Waterfall Park. Highly recommend.

We only stayed one night. Check-in was simple and easy, The staff were all very friendly. The property is gorgeous and unique. Weather was really rainy and wet, so we didn't get to explore too much around the outside of the property. Our room was exactly as described and quiet, however, the walls are somewhat thin and you can hear other guests but not in a horrible way. It's more like a comfortable home rather than a hotel. The dining room was lovely, dinner was nice and the included breakfast was delicious. Delicious! It's a really neat area and we left the next morning to go straight to the volcano so everything was convenient and scenic.

Enjoyed our stay. Lovely property and rooms. We stayed in the Jacamar room which was very homely with an additional sitting area and fireplace and small enclosed garden which was constantly visited by hummingbirds. Although the property has its own restaurant it is in close proximity to other eateries. It is also in a good lication for visiting the volcano and La Paz Waterfall and Gardens.

Beautiful place but no WiFi restaurant and bad WiFi in room. They said it was because the weather… Was raining… But overall very good place.

Fantastic location with stunning views. The public areas are lovely, beautifully designed and immaculately clean. The restaurant was surprisingly upmarket, considering it's location half way up a mountain, and the food was tasty and well prepared. The garden rooms were understandably basic, but again well equipped and perfectly clean, although probably overdue an update to the bathrooms. The only real spoiler was the apparent lack of any soundproofing between the garden rooms, which allowed us to hear almost everything that was said and done in the rooms nextdoor. Notwithstanding this, it was a lovely spot to stay for a night and as a launchpad from which to visit both La Paz Waterfall Gardens and the Poas Volcano.

My reservation details (name, phone number, dates of stay, amount due, etc.) were leaked before my stay and were used by scammers to send genuine-looking booking and payment messages using accurate information related to this hotel. The hotel acknowledged this serious security incident, yet I have received no further response and no attempt at resolution. This lack of action is unacceptable and raises serious concerns about the hotel’s data protection practices. I would advise future guests to be cautious and consider whether this is the right accommodation for them.

Péssima experiência ao se hospedar. A energia do hotel caiu por volta das 18h, ficamos horas sem saber o que tinha acontecido, que horas a energia iria voltar e se voltaria. Nenhum funcionário do hotel veio ate aos quartos perguntar se os hospedes estavam bem, oferecer uma vela ou lanterna que seja. Por sorte tínhamos bateria no celular e conseguimos achar o whatsapp da recepção online e ligamos para eles perguntando o que tinha ocorrido. Na ligação falaram que parecia que havia tido uma queda de uma árvore e não sabiam se a luz iria voltar. Não perguntaram se a gente precisava de algo nem nada. Um descaso com o hospede que eu nunca vi igual. O hotel não ter um gerador é um absurdo. E claro que entendemos que não é culpa do hotel a queda de energia, mas como eles lidam a situação junto aos hospedes é responsabilidade deles, que foi total descaso e despreparo. NÃO recomendo para ninguém esse hotel.

We had a very nice stay at this most interesting proprty. The property is well located for exploring the Central Valley and has a very pastoral setting. The staff were very helpful in all regards. The dining room offers exceptional value and service. Many thanks to Javier and Diego - are were superb. We would highly recommend this property.

Reception upon check in was a little cool but restaurant staff was very friendly front desk seemed a little inconvenienced when asked for ice for the room but the resort very well maintained and comfortable surroundings were beautiful and the rest of resort staff was friendly

This was beautiful, and the people were great. Just didn't have a lot of do outside walking around and seeing the Volcano, Coffee Tour and La Paz. This could be done in 1 or 2 nights tops.

We got room 6 which has the Wood burning fireplace and we thoroughly enjoyed it. Breakfast was good at the lodge but would not recommend lunch or dinner. There are plenty of local authentic restaurants at short walking distance that would be better choice. The area around the lodge is very peaceful scenic and serene. We enjoyed our stay

Beautiful accommodations - up to date, spacious room, large bathroom. The grounds were very attractive and well kept. Dining was very good which is nice since the lodge is a bit out of the way from other options. Good location - not too far from San Jose and close to the Poas Volcano National Park and not far from the La Paz Waterfalls.

We loved our stay at Poas Volcano Lodge. It’s a beautiful property in the clouds. Very different environment from when we stayed in La Fortuna- you are high in the mountains! The weather is nice and cool. The service and restaurant were excellent. Convenient location that’s less than an hour to the airport and very close to Poas Volcano, La Paz waterfall, and several coffee and strawberry farms that offer tours.

Lovely hotel. Nice decor. There is not much around the hotel. But only 25 mins to the Poas Volcano. Dirt road up to the hotel.

What a beautiful property!! Wow the views! and the hotel itself. Beautiful! Breakfast was absolutely amazing!! We ate dinner at the property while there. All our meals top rated!!!! I would highly recommend this hotel to stay!!!

Best dinner during our entire trip in Costa Rica

Sehr schöne Lage im Nebelwald mit eigenen Wanderwegen, die gut gepflegt und abwechslungreich sind (Nebelwald, Eichenwald, Weiden). Unser Zimmer Nr. 7 ist in die Jahre gekommen, insbesondere das Bad. Der Badewannen-Stöpsel war nicht dicht, sodass das Wasser leider nicht drin blieb und dies während unseres 2-tägigen Aufenthaltes auch nicht behoben werden konnte. Ein elektrischer Luftentfeuchter als auch ein Heizlüfter sind vorhanden, das Raumklima war in Ordnung.Die bereitgestellten Bettdecken waren warm genug für uns. Das Design und auch die Gemeinschaftsräume mit Kaminen haben uns sehr gut gefallen. Beim Check-in war die Begrüßung nicht besonders herzlich und die Informationen rar, z.B. wurden wir nicht darauf hingewiesen, dass für den Abend im Restaurant zwingend eine Uhrzeit reserviert werden muss (wir waren sehr froh, dass wir dennoch einen Platz bekamen - und wurden dort auch informiert, dass die Person an der Rezeption erkrankt war und die Dame dort eingesprungen war). Insgesamt herrschte Personalmangel auch im Restaurant, auch wenn dort alle sehr bemüht und freundlich waren und die Speisen lecker. Das Vorgehen mit dem Frühstück war etwas gewöhnungsbedürftig: man muss am Abend vorher ankreuzen, welche Eierspeise und wieviel Toast man möchte - und wenn man dann am Morgen mehr möchte, kostet es einen Aufpreis (wieviel, wissen wir nicht). Es gibt zusätzlich genug Obst und Granola sowie Joghurt. Aus unserer Sicht stimmt hier leider das Preis-Leistungs-Verhältnis nicht.
