Great location and good breakfast. However, hotel overall extremely dated and things look dirty. The pool area was extremely dirty looking and the Spa pool was not on so extremely disappointing. None of these would be major issues if it were not for the price you pay. One of the things we paid to go there for was a spa pool. The bed was comfy enough. There are only two usable sockets for plugs in room as others are the special lamp sockets so not great if have more than two things to be plugged in at once.

Swimming pool and spa was nice, water was warm. Family friendly place. My boy likes soft play in the hotel. Food was great. Breakfast was ok but a bit slow tea & toast. First day the staff forgot or confused bringing toast& tea but its ok there are plenty to eat&drink.

Great facilities and professional staff stay was let down by very bad mattresses, ill fitting bedding and also a blocked loo on arrival. Pool was great with wave machine, flume and spa. Parking was easy and free too.

Very disapointing. The pool was not open all day (they had time slots), the waves and slide were not operating although they said they would be. I was told the vent system was not working and it was "dangerous" to be in there. That's fine, but when I asked if it was getting fixed staff said "I don't know". House keeping woke me up knocking loudly and non stop at 8am. When I went to the door wondering it could only be an emergency, the house keeper turned her back and walked away without even explaining her actions. I was left with a headache for my drive back home. The playroom was closed and staff didn't know when it would be open. When I complained, the person at reception did a sad face and noded her head, but did nothing to repair the problems I had described. She gave me the manager's email. When I came back to check I had the right email address, I find out the manager was there! I asked to talk to him, but he did not leave his room and she came back telling me to phone him later. Honestly, I never had such disapointing experience before and I've traveled to many many places.

Room was spacious and clean. Beds very comfy. No plug sockets by bed though. Good selection available for breakfast and the pool and soft play were great addition to the hotel. Didn’t manage to make it to the cinema but would have liked to.

Staff were outstanding from the receptionist to the restaurant staff. Property needs a bit of modernisation. No USB points in our room. TV does not provide smart apps or casting. Swimming pool was good but it takes last entrance at 19:15. As one of the main features I would have thought it would be open later. Also in the morning opens at 8. Caters for all ages.We were hesitant after reading reviews on this hotel but don’t let them put you off. Not a 5* but good central base for exploring the area.

I was nervous about staying here based on other reviews I read, but thought this hotel seemed like a good family friendly option in Aviemore. I should have listened to the reviews. We were very unhappy with our stay at this hotel. The rooms were disgusting- dirty, dingy, old, smelly and holes in the sheets. The beds were extremely uncomfortable. There is no air conditioning and the room was hot. We were able to open the window but there was no screen so bugs flew in. The whole place needs to be redone. The hotel breakfast was OK, onsite parking is a plus and the location is great, but we could not wait to get out of there.

The room was tired and in urgent need of TLC. It was not the cleanest of hotels either. I was disappointed as I have always admired from a far and was looking forward to this stay with my family. Cleanliness should be a given at least but sadly I had to endure what was as it was under staffed and if I asked any questions it always seemed to be a struggle or inconvenience.

The room was dark and dingy, it had no light on the ceiling only 3 dim lamps. The room was not clean, the carpet looked like it had not seen a vacuum in a long time, there was cobwebs all over, stains on some of the bed pillows and furniture and walls and the wood blinds were covered in dust. The breakfast was OK but overpriced in my opinion. Only good part really was the pool, but the jacuzzi was not working and all the facilities close at 6pm which is a bit early. Overall it is overpriced and was not really a pleasant stay.

Stayed many times and children love it. Was disappointed though this time when we turned up that the hygiene in the room was not as per normal standards. Despite checking in early the staff were not able to change us to another room to allow though cleaning of the room to remove a very unpleasant odour. The staff did try to remove/mask the smell with ozone machine and air freshener. But only lasted a short while, and made the tripe time in the room unenjoyable for for the entire trip due to what smelt like vomit.

Macdonald hotel was meant to be 4 star. Can safely say 2/3 star. Mould in bathrooms. Unclean bathroom floors. Side panal of the path was water damaged by many years of usage. The buildings are very old now and in major need of upgrade and repair. Including restuarants. We have visited maybe 5 times over the last 10 years and this time was the most disappointing. It doesnt have the 4 star feel and next time definitely be booking else where sad to say. Time for some maintenance. Couldnt even get a latte with breakfast, had to pay extra. Paid £650 for 2 nights and couldnt even have a latte for breakfast. 😂 The staff were friendly.

The room smelt of damp, restricting my breathing considerably and needing an emergency prescription. I requested a dehumidifier but was assured they could use a purifier when I was out of the room, no evidence this was executed as it didn’t help. When I expressed my concern at reception I was told they would look out for the next customer. I feel I should have been offered another room as I tried to explain I am asthmatic and a diabetic….. This spoilt my stay and I will not be staying again. A real pity as the breakfast was very good and the restaurant staff were excellent.

The rooms are quite dated and DARK. everything is just dark in the hotel.. the lobby, the rooms .. even with all the lights switched on .. it looks a very very dated property. The restaurant is quite expensive.. for what they offer.. the staff though are quite pleasing, helpful and are always running around to keep the place going .. no complaints there.. the property can do with a makeover.. not staying again until the rooms are redone.. Not at all value for money .. for what they charge and the state of the rooms

For my room, it was at the back of the complex so heard trucks all night long travel down the Motorway. The bed was large but felt I was falling out when I was near the end of the bed. The room was clean well maintained but slightly dated. Pints of peroni £6.90

Have stayed at the Macdonald resort often and have always been thoroughly happy with our rooms This time I was disappointed with the room we were booked into. Though it was clean and functional it was very old fashioned. and felt as if the area we were in was more like staff quarters.

We were given a room with a connecting door and we were surrounded by bus loads of Chinese on a tour and it was so noisy i struggled to sleep . I could hear every word said by the people in the connecting room the hairdryer was so loud it may as well have been in the room with us . Then it all started up again at 6.30am , while i appreciate that the hotel cant be held responsible for the noise of other guests i do think we should not have been given a room in amongst a large bus load of people that were clearly travelling together . The adjoining door was next to the suitcase stand meaning every time they went in their suitcase it banged our door . We only arrived 45 minutes before the official check in but were made to wait again i appreciate we were a bit early but in all my travel's i never known a hotel not letting people in a little bit early as the room was clearly ready by 3.15 when we arrived so this was a bit petty .

Overall property wasnt bad but for the price I expected more. There were some issues with the phone not working and being unable to call reception. The bathroom was very dangerous due to slippery surfaces. Bedding was nice but the beds were not comfortable and the doors in the hallways were very loud and squeaky which could be heard clearly from the room. It was fine for the one night we stayed while exploring the Highland Park but it would not have been restful if we had stayed longer.

This hotel is adequate and has good and not-so-good aspects. First of all is the late check-in time. 4pm seems a bit late, especially for families. On the good side, we were allowed to use the pool while we waited. The pool is a good resource but as with many MacDonald Hotels these days, parts of it are tired and need work. Half the showers in the changing rooms were not working and created queues. In the room, I was lead to believe from photos that the family room would have a double bed and two singles instead of a double and one single. Adequate but nothing more. Also, the television didn't really work. At first, there was no audio for television and then it would switch off randomly. Wifi wasn't very strong. Breakfast was good.

A few issues with the room were dealt with by maintenance promptly. Check in was friendly and helpful. Room was small, bathroom had virtually no storage for our toiletries but walk in shower was lovely and Elemis complimentary bits were nice. Corridors were a bit drab and dull, letting the place down. Having had the option to upgrade our room and not doing so, knowing what we know now, we would have taken the upgrade option to a bigger room.

Good comfy stay with excellent facilities. Aspect restaurant as only dining option on site was a bit too posh for liking. Buildings look a bit old and tired but still in good condition. Am waiting for partial refund due to check out 2 days early so will see if get it. Walking directions from station were not provided and no directions on site so not easy to find hotel for initial check in.

Staff lovely and very kind and understanding. Local area beautiful and lots of activities outwith area for the children. Grandson is autistic and also has adhd and at times could be very hyper but staff anazing with him and understanding.

We will not be going back to McDonald’s Highland Resort the room service was very poor, our room was still not serviced at 17:00 this happen two days running had to go to reception before it was done. The breakfast was very poor my wife got food poisoning after the breakfast on Saturday as the sausage she had partly eaten hadn’t been fully cooked. The hotel is very shabby worn carpets worn furniture it needs a complete refurb. We have been going to that hotel at least once or twice a year over the last 20 years, over the last five years it has gradually gone downhill and this was probably the worst it been. Cold breakfast every morning, served on cold plates. also kept running out or eggs’ potato scones etc. long wait to be seated, 15 mins., standing at the top of the stairs ( with 4 collapsed discs in my spine.) finally get your tea, no milk. Next day no toast, more cold food. Service was so slow. Staff are run off their feet trying to cope. I said to an older woman serving at the food counter, maybe need more staff. She implied it was our fault for all turning up at the same time. I politely asked what is the best time to come for breakfast..to avoid this..she said, don’t turn up at the same time. Hotel is not 4 star. We’ve stayed in many in Dubai etc. dated, overpriced, understaffed. I wouldn’t recommend this hotel to anyone. We spent an hour in the bar, a large crowd of people finished their drink and left. The cluttered 7 tables weren’t cleared at any time during our hour. Even though the bar staff had gone from 1 to 3. And no one waiting to be served. I couldn’t get my small shop mobility scooter to my room, as we were on a split level landing..lift was up, or down 9 stairs! Room was pleasant if a bit old..and it was clean. Warm enough. Sorry to be so disappointed. It was a treat fit my hubby 82nd birthday. Hotel is central to shoot etc.

This hotel is adequate and has good and not-so-good aspects. First of all is the late check-in time. 4pm seems a bit late, especially for families. On the good side, we were allowed to use the pool while we waited. The pool is a good resource but as with many MacDonald Hotels these days, parts of it are tired and need work. Half the showers in the changing rooms were not working and created queues. In the room, I was lead to believe from photos that the family room would have a double bed and two singles instead of a double and one single. Adequate but nothing more. Also, the television didn't really work. At first, there was no audio for television and then it would switch off randomly. Wifi wasn't very strong. Breakfast was good.

The reception staff were very friendly as were staff in Activity centres.,As for the restaurant, words fail me . In the 21st century we were refused entry to restaurant, being told we could sit well away from rest of diners in a lounge area . The reason being my daughter had a guide dog . It was humiliating and embarrassing and having to get a manager to explain to his abysmally trained staff about the rights of guide dog owners being allowed access to any public space , totally ruined our stay . We were challenged again at breakfast and the funny thing was another guest had a pet dog with her . Overall an awful experience and to say food in restaurant was good ? We asked for a curry and we were given what looked like a bowl of rice with a few bits thrown in . It was almost inedible and a total waste of money , also very expensive . Have stayed in Aviemore many times and have loved it . This experience was unbelievable, we were treated like second class citizens and everything was grudgingly allowed . I never want to go back to that hotel again . The staff are poorly trained and the quality of service is reflected in this . It is a shame as the resort itself has a lot to offer . The management need to take a long hard look and improve things . It is not a cheap place to stay and could be so much better

Check in was running late due to a laundry issue. We were offered a free drink which was appreciated. We were then told we had been given an upgrade which again was very much appreciated. However, when we got to our room it wss less than we expected from the non-upgrade room. Light flickered in the bathroom, fousty smell, safe didnt work, our bed had hairs on it, cheap metal bunk beds for the kids, room right at the road in the car park so very noisy, mirror covered by tv. Overall, for the price we paid it wasnt great. My husband explained the issues to reception and they said they would sort them out and look to move us the next morning. They came to change our bedding, sprayed air freshner and we never heard from them again. On check out, i explained our stay was just okay and the man replied, "oh thats great, good to hear". We felt that management didnt have a care in the world. The room was nothing like the photos. The bathroom looked older than I am. We had booked the family room with the sofa bed as our daughters love to share a bed but got bunk beds in our "upgraded" room instead. The activity centre sounded great on paper but turns out it was a young lady at a desk who sat on her phone and explained we could play around the rooms. Pool was good fun and the cinema is huge. Breakfast in aspects was delicious. This resort has the potential to be amazing but until it is, we wont be returning unfortunately.

Came for the skiing over NY but not able to due to warm weather. Faculties at the hotel were great and it was clean and comfortable. It is within walking distance of all the restaurants and bars on the Main Street. Great location to travel to activities but a car is recommended. We would certainly recommend and will be returning in March.

Resort itself is very nice, nice easy walk to the Main Street. Staff were excellent, very friendly and courteous. Breakfast was really good, lots of choices. We stayed for 2 nights and there were only a couple of things that were a bit poor. 1. The fire alarm went off 3 times during our short stay, including once early morning. People lining the corridors not sure if it was a drill, or a fault. No explanation given. 2. Our room (2234) was a “Deluxe” room, but it did appear a bit run down. The shower seal leaked leaving a pool of water on the bathroom floor, which did cause a panicky slip the first time I stepped out. Also the window handle was a bit faulty which made it difficult to open it. Other than that everything was fine. The bed was very comfortable. Would maybe stay again but it would have to be a special offer.

Bit disappointed for what we paid for the hotel. It was lovely downstairs but although the room appeared clean the less obvious areas required a good dusting. There was also no fridge which we have had in all the hotel rooms we have stayed in in recent years. The buffet breakfast was an also disappointing. On the first day the hot food was not hot and was slightly undercooked. Second day was acceptable but the third day it was overcooked, particularly the bacon. However all staff we had dealings with were very pleasant and helpful. The swimming pool and leisure centre was also excellent.

Breakfast was Luke warm with only one set of tongs for 4 food items. Potato Scones were like tortilla chips they were so overcooked. Spout on tea pot was broken, mismatched cups on table, food on salt and pepper pots. Lack of care and attention to detail.

So disappointing considering the amount we paid for the night. Was not worth it at all. Our room - we could hear every conversation next door were having like we were in the same room. The shower and bathroom was awful. The water was either scalding or cold and trickling out of the shower. Breakfast was awful. The side plate and milk jug were dirty with food stuck on it and tea stains. Ordered tea for two and got a pot for one and when asked for more took ages to come. No rush about the staff at all. Cleanliness is not great in the hotel. I would not recommend to stay and will not be staying there again. Then we went to use the swimming pool. The fire alarm went off no one moved asked a life guard was not the fire alarm and where do we go. He said it’s for another building if you want to leave you can but you can just go into the pool if you want? Some families were leaving in their swim suits and others stayed? Ridiculous. Having stayed here many times before I had been looking forward to returning! Unfortunately this time had left me questioning whether I will come back in the future at all!! I was shocked at the lack of attentiveness from the staff, the absolute mess in the bar area (which hadn’t even been cleaned by the next morning), the non-existent toiletries (shampoo/conditioner etc) in our room and the fact that I was asked to go to the downstairs bar to pay for my drink I ordered in the upstairs bar!!!! One of the biggest disappointments was the extremely poor service we received at breakfast topped with the fact that the food was COLD! Having stayed here many times before I had been looking forward to returning! Unfortunately this time had left me questioning whether I will come back in the future at all!! I was shocked at the lack of attentiveness from the staff, the absolute mess in the bar area (which hadn’t even been cleaned by the next morning), the non-existent toiletries (shampoo/conditioner etc) in our room and the fact that I was asked to go to the downstairs bar to pay for my drink I ordered in the upstairs bar!!!! One of the biggest disappointments was the extremely poor service we received at breakfast topped with the fact that the food was COLD! I go every year... every year had become more expensive, every year there are more loud, disrespectful large groups, the breakfast becomes less varied and costs are cut, the restaurant food has taken a massive nosedive this year, and I have had cheaper, higher quality in London! the building itelsw hasn't changed... but literally hasn't changed! over 5 years of coming back every year, the same minor maintenance issues year after year, not an issue in itself, but the fact that they are left unrepaired year after year is a shame. the staff are still as lovely as ever, the chefs do their best with the cost-cutting ingredients provided, the cleaning staff still do an amazing job, but no matter how good the staff are, if the hotel is cutting coats at the l.vel it is, there is nothing they can do

We booked this stay last minute due to another hotel falling through. My kids were super stoked because this reminded them of a famous hotel chain back home. The people who checked us in were very nice, and the grounds looked awesome. The hotel itself was a bit of a different story. Everything felt incredibly dated and rundown. The ceiling in the bathroom was cracking all over, there was mildew all over the grout, a lot of the hotel itself just looks like it really needs some TLC. The leisure center was kind of the same; the water slide is super rusty, the floating mats have bites taken out of them, the spa barely bubbles and is just lukewarm. My son was super excited for the “game room” but it was just four sad looking machines. The kids liked the wave pool and enjoyed swimming, but me and the wife kept giving each other “this is it?” looks. I expected way more for what they charge a night. The parking situation is also a nightmare. We ate at the Italian restaurant on site and it was bad. Cold food, bad service, and overpriced. Go into town to eat. With that said, my kids loved it and want to go back. Soooo… maybe it’s not really for adults?

An absolutely stunning stay. Hotel is beautiful and the Laggan bar staff were phenomenal. Only let down by the lack or organisation at breakfast time. No black pudding or haggis and if you leave your seat to get another course you come back to your apple juice and coffee having been cleared away.
