I booked this room based on the amazing review but I overall had a mixed experience ! Positive- the good part of this property is the location, it’s very near Jaco beach and around bunch of restaurants . The views from the room and restaurant is amazing and you would really njoy the sunsets . We also loved the architecture it was really nice, the lobby, room decor and the terrace. The room cleaning staff was meticulous and made nice cute design of towels each day for us. Negative- 1. It seems we arrived during a wedding event . I would expect a 4 star hotel to plan accordingly . However we had to park quite far from the reception as the parking was full . Note we were not super late to check in we had arrived, around 4 pm. Secondly we were told they could sit us for dinner only after 8 pm due to the wedding . We had booked months in advance they should have planned better. 2. During dinner we were told that there is nothing vegetarian except 1 salad. In today’s date for a 4 star property not having any vegetarian option was really disappointing. The person who took the order also did not offer anything like a pasta with no meat or something. We are global travelers and in our experience, such restaurants ( where there is nothing vegetarian ) - generally they offer to cook the same dish but without meat, here they did nothing ! Very disappointing ! We ended up getting good food from Jaco which was cheaper :) 3. Maintenance of the property is poor - while the architecture is

The property itself is breathtaking. The staff is top notch! Unfortunately the original hiking trail was closed due to the country’s struggle to get back to normal after the pandemic. Transportation into town is costly so it’s best to rent a vehicle if you can. Property not recommended for small children.

Mixed feelings about the resort. We are in our mid-50’s and in normal shape. Our room was a villa, #27. It was the third from last furthest from pool/restaurant area, and it was 100% uphill climb when leaving our room / or downhill when going to the room. It was 50 stairs and 360 paces/strides, again uphill. However, the walk was covered by a roof or vegetation most of the time if it would rain and the path. It was aggregate and stone and was beautiful. There is one restaurant and impossible to get a reservation once we arrived, so make them weeks in advance of arriving! I think a lot of this is due to other people not staying at the resort that come for the sunset or view. For example, could not get a reservation till 8:30PM but since the sunset was bad that night no one showed up so we were able to get a table last minute. When there is a gorgeous sunset it took us 45 min to get a cocktail to see the sunset. Horrible for those of us staying there! We should have a priority over others. Food was great! Saw some wildlife but was expecting more. Macaws would fly by but fairly far away. Monkey at pool tree twice at 2:00. Ask front desk to take you on a cart ride to see where Macaws nests are so you can walk there other days to see. Pool was nice but no rafts allowed and got crowded when kids were there. But not crowded most of the time. Spa was wonderful. One Uber drivers car was not the best and he had some issues on the steep road getting to the place.

It offers spectacular views, good food, and polite customer service. It also has a good spa offering and an amazing yoga spot. You can see a lot of wild animals. The infinity pool is amazing and it offers an incredible view.

Beautiful setting and spectacular view from our room. The pool is beautiful! The beach is nice, but access to the water is a bit challenging. The service in the restaurant is a bit slow, but not a huge deal, considering the view. All of the food was excellent, as were the cocktails

The property is gorgeous, the views are amazing. But: Our sheets had a red stain, it seems like blood. The restaurant is way too expensive, and I'm not saying this blindly, you can tell the food quality is below average. (We are locals, we know what you can buy and how much it costs). We got bread during our lunch, they gave us toasts, and clearly from the day before or who knows when. We order a hamburger and a pita, the bread wasn't totally fresh. The oil used for the French fries was cheap smelly oil, a nightmare for the stomach. We got sick. We order a couple of Aperol Spritz (priced at $24 each, not even in Europe), the proportions and the mix were totally wrong, it was almost all prosecco and was missing enough Aperol. I know this because I make my own drinks, and my best friend is freaking good at it, so we've been studying the recipe for over a year. When I told the waiter about it, he asked me what's wrong, I tried to explain, and when I told him it wasn't properly mixed, he replied back, saying that was normal because of the liquor density... I came out rude saying I wasn't going to argue with him about how to do it, that we wanted a new drink. He insisted on knowing what was wrong or he was going to be charged for it. So that tells me that restaurant is poorly managed, I told him if that was the case then I'll pay them, but he said it was fine, that he already talked to his boss. The restaurant killed it for us, not planning on going back.

Very beautiful location. The views from this property are stunning. We had a private hot tub with our room and that was great to have. The restaurant was nice, a little pricey and they didn’t offer a free breakfast. Parking is also a little awkward and it’s not within walking distance to anything. We had a car and were able to come and go without a problem. But the property itself, gorgeous. The rooms were clean and beautiful and the staff were all very friendly! Would definitely recommend.

O lugar é incrível ! Contudo por ser um hotel 5 estrelas deveriam ser mais atentos com a limpeza. Sei que estávamos literalmente no meio da mata , mas tinha teia de aranha dentro do quarto em vários lugares .

a this is always a perfect place. The rooms are palatial. Everything is spotlessly clean. If a hotel can be perfect this one is. Spa services are great. Food is great. Location is beyond compare. The views are breathtaking. Staff is great. its worth every penny.

Place was very clean and nice, but that’s about it. Hot water didn’t work so we took cold showers. Asked one guy and told him what room we were in and he said he’d let them know. Never got fixed. Water for the toilet ran at all times. I tried to fix it because I was still waiting on them to fix the shower but that didn’t happen, so I gave up and just let it run. I’ve been going there for years to the pool and pool bar and never had an issue. I had read some reviews about bad service but I didn’t think it would be that bad. I was wrong, it was horrible. The dining was not good, food quality or service. I wasn’t even going to leave any kind of review until I finally had enough today. My wife went to the pool bar to order us some drinks and no staff was there. Waited 10 mins and still nothing, so she went upstairs to the bar by the restaurant. The bartender told her he’d be down there in a few. 22 minutes later, still no bartender. Went back upstairs to order drinks, and she finally came down with a beer that was barely chilled, was more warm than chilled. So I went upstairs and the other bartender was apologetic but at that point I wasn’t happy. It’s frustrating paying a premium at what seems like the nicest place in Jaco area and have that bad of food, service, etc. I will never again go there and I've been going there since 2017. Sad to see such a nice place be such a disappointment.

Just stayed one night. We have been there in the past to enjoy the view and lunch with friends . First time overnight. Room wasn’t comfortable old furnishings and not even close to getting your money’s worth. I guess it is all about the View.

The Villa Caletes is one of my favorite places. The setting and views are amazing. The hotel is exquisite- with architecture matching some of the most luxury inns in the world. It does not disappoint in this regards. I was somewhat disappointed with the bed this time. I could feel and hear the springs. I will be back for the view but might stay elsewhere.

This hotel is in decline. the first night we ordered room service and the meals came an hour later and my food had little ants crawling on it. I called the restaurant and they said “No, that is the black wild rice in the meal” I said “We’ll, my rice learned to walk then.” The jacuzzi had most of the control buttons broken, out of date outlets that were hard to plug into, old light fixtures in the rooms etc. The views are amazing but the hotel is just run down and needs some attention.

Water for the toilet ran at all times. I tried to fix it because I was still waiting on them to fix the shower but that didn’t happen, so I gave up and just let it run. I’ve been going there for years to the pool and pool bar and never had an issue. I had read some reviews about bad service but I didn’t think it would be that bad. I was wrong, it was horrible. The dining was not good, food quality or service. I wasn’t even going to leave any kind of review until I finally had enough today. My wife went to the pool bar to order us some drinks and no staff was there. Waited 10 mins and still nothing, so she went upstairs to the bar by the restaurant. The bartender told her he’d be down there in a few. 22 minutes later, still no bartender. Went back upstairs to order drinks, and she finally came down with a beer that was barely chilled, was more warm than chilled. So I went upstairs and the other bartender was apologetic but at that point I wasn’t happy. It’s frustrating paying a premium at what seems like the nicest place in Jaco area and have that bad of food, service, etc. I will never again go there and I've been going there since 2017. Sad to see such a nice place be such a disappointment.

Mixed feelings about the resort. We are in our mid-50’s and in normal shape. Our room was a villa, #27. It was the third from last furthest from pool/restaurant area, and it was 100% uphill climb when leaving our room / or downhill when going to the room. It was 50 stairs and 360 paces/strides, again uphill. However, the walk was covered by a roof or vegetation most of the time if it would rain and the path. It was aggregate and stone and was beautiful. There is one restaurant and impossible to get a reservation once we arrived, so make them weeks in advance of arriving! I think a lot of this is due to other people not staying at the resort that come for the sunset or view. For example, could not get a reservation till 8:30PM but since the sunset was bad that night no one showed up so we were able to get a table last minute. When there is a gorgeous sunset it took us 45 min to get a cocktail to see the sunset. Horrible for those of us staying there! We should have a priority over others. Food was great! Saw some wildlife but was expecting more. Macaws would fly by but fairly far away. Monkey at pool tree twice at 2:00. Ask front desk to take you on a cart ride to see where Macaws nests are so you can walk there other days to see. Pool was nice but no rafts allowed and got crowded when kids were there. But not crowded most of the time. Spa was wonderful. One Uber drivers car was not the best and he had some issues on the steep road getting to the place.

The property is gorgeous, the views are amazing. But: Our sheets had a red stain, it seems like blood. The restaurant is way too expensive, and I'm not saying this blindly, you can tell the food quality is below average. (We are locals, we know what you can buy and how much it costs). We got bread during our lunch, they gave us toasts, and clearly from the day before or who knows when. We order a hamburger and a pita, the bread wasn't totally fresh. The oil used for the French fries was cheap smelly oil, a nightmare for the stomach. We got sick. We order a couple of Aperol Spritz (priced at $24 each, not even in Europe), the proportions and the mix were totally wrong, it was almost all prosecco and was missing enough Aperol. I know this because I make my own drinks, and my best friend is freaking good at it, so we've been studying the recipe for over a year. When I told the waiter about it, he asked me what's wrong, I tried to explain, and when I told him it wasn't properly mixed, he replied back, saying that was normal because of the liquor density... I came out rude saying I wasn't going to argue with him about how to do it, that we wanted a new drink. He insisted on knowing what was wrong or he was going to be charged for it. So that tells me that restaurant is poorly managed, I told him if that was the case then I'll pay them, but he said it was fine, that he already talked to his boss. The quality of the service has dramatically decrease. The staff at the receptions are not locals and their knowledge of the hospitality world is null, this was the worst check in and check out process. Not long ago, this was one of the best boutique hotels in Puntarenas. The place is beautiful, the staff seems they don’t care their job. The restaurant is expensive and they are not willing to make small changes in the menu even if the price is 4x what you will pay on average in any other place. Enjoy the view, don’t expect a good treatment from their staff.

Pleasantly surprised given the negative reviews. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Great reception and concierge, very helpful. Despite what some people say the restaurant served high quality food for both breakfast and dinner. The service was quick and attentive without being too on your face. Every member of staff we met were friendly. Our room no 2 was well positioned for the pool, bar and restaurant. The icing on the cake are the views which are spectacular. Easily the best hotel of our Costa Rica tour.

This is a five star hotel in my book. The property is beautiful, the staff are extremely helpful and friendly, the food and service at the restaurant are top notch. We celebrated our anniversary there and moved tables twice. Once we moved away from a table with small children that was noisy. Then we moved again to be inside. Once inside the temp was still warm so they turned on the AC for us. There only concern was our comfort and experience at their hotel. Hotels of comparable price, in the states would never do this. It was an amazing stay and we plan to return there for a longer stay for our 10th anniversary.

Even though it was completely booked, it felt the opposite. Private, secluded and friendly, not to mention breathtakingly beautiful at every turn, we felt like we were one of only a few there. Very beautiful location. The views from this property are stunning. We had a private hot tub with our room and that was great to have. The restaurant was nice, a little pricey and they didn’t offer a free breakfast. Parking is also a little awkward and it’s not within walking distance to anything. We had a car and were able to come and go without a problem. But the property itself, gorgeous. The rooms were clean and beautiful and the staff were all very friendly! Would definitely recommend.

Our stay at Villa Caletas was amazing! The entire time we were there we felt cared for and enjoyed the luxurious property. The rooms are spacious and amazing. We had a junior suite overlooking the ocean and it took our breath away. Every meal we had at the restaurant was delicious as well! It was about 1.25 hours from Manuel Antonio so that made for a fun day trip. We cannot wait to come back another Time.

Beautiful setting and spectacular view from our room. The pool is beautiful! The beach is nice, but access to the water is a bit challenging. The service in the restaurant is a bit slow, but not a huge deal, considering the view. All of the food was excellent, as were the cocktails

It’s a private location not close to anything so the traveler must be looking for a place just to relax and enjoy a view. Nice amenities restaurant was very good.

Mixed feelings about the resort. We are in our mid-50’s and in normal shape. Our room was a villa, #27. It was the third from last furthest from pool/restaurant area, and it was 100% uphill climb when leaving our room / or downhill when going to the room. It was 50 stairs and 360 paces/strides, again uphill. However, the walk was covered by a roof or vegetation most of the time if it would rain and the path. It was aggregate and stone and was beautiful. There is one restaurant and impossible to get a reservation once we arrived, so make them weeks in advance of arriving! I think a lot of this is due to other people not staying at the resort that come for the sunset or view. For example, could not get a reservation till 8:30PM but since the sunset was bad that night no one showed up so we were able to get a table last minute. When there is a gorgeous sunset it took us 45 min to get a cocktail to see the sunset. Horrible for those of us staying there! We should have a priority over others. Food was great! Saw some wildlife but was expecting more. Macaws would fly by but fairly far away. Monkey at pool tree twice at 2:00. Ask front desk to take you on a cart ride to see where Macaws nests are so you can walk there other days to see. Pool was nice but no rafts allowed and got crowded when kids were there. But not crowded most of the time. Spa was wonderful. One Uber drivers car was not the best and he had some issues on the steep road getting to the place.

Beautiful setting and spectacular view from our room. The pool is beautiful! The beach is nice, but access to the water is a bit challenging. The service in the restaurant is a bit slow, but not a huge deal, considering the view. All of the food was excellent, as were the cocktails

The views are absolutely breathtaking, easily the standout feature of the property. Whether you’re overlooking the ocean at sunset or walking through the grounds, the scenery is stunning. The property itself is beautifully maintained, with lush landscaping that really adds to the overall experience. Most of the staff around the hotel were warm, welcoming, and very helpful, which made navigating the property and enjoying the amenities easy. That said, the dining experience fell short. The restaurant staff were not as friendly, and the service felt subpar compared to the rest of the hotel. The menu lacked variety, and it felt like there were very limited options—almost like you were stuck eating the same meals repeatedly. Unfortunately, the food itself didn’t stand out either.
