We stayed here overnight before an early morning medical procedure. Hotel is well located and in a safe area. The front desk staff were great, valet was easy and efficient, and our room was spacious. Free WiFi and good selection of channels in the room. We were able to retrieve our car early (430am) which was great as some hotels don’t do 24 hour valet.

Front desk very friendly. Hallway on my floor was very hot. AC didn’t seem to be working on 15th floor. Elevator service was horrible. Took way too long. Almost had a panic attack due to the small elevator being fully packed since one elevator was not working. It stopped at every floor on the way down.

Hotel was in a quiet neighborhood with restaurants were close by. Loved the rooftop bar - didn’t try the restaurant but it is great to have on on-site. Didn’t like the resort fee - felt that didn’t have value - but overall price per night was very good and I was very happy with this hotel.

Enjoyed our stay with family and friends. Rooftop bar is a plus with amazing views. Good location walkable to Grand Central. Staff was friendly. Small fitness room was convenient. Some rooms have kitchenette- one evening some inconsiderate guest cooked fish and stank the entire floor. Other than that nonsense , stay was great.

Had a wonderful stay! Our room was on the second floor but we still found it very quiet. Hotel has a great location and the rooftop terrace is a wonderful feature with great views. No issues during our stay! We also found it pretty good value for the price, although not sure the resort fee is really worth it given the only included amenity seemed to be the fitness center.

For the majority of our stay, the second elevator was broken. That was a huge inconvenience and impacted on our ability to come and go. Additionally, the air conditioning was not working in one of our two rooms. We called maintenance to come repair the problem, but their resolution after a lot of tinkering was to just put a fan in the room.

Room was nice , wall paper was peeling off at entry , ice in ice machine was old and stuck in a block, shower head was in disrepair meaning more water ran out the bottom than on you, only two pillow per bed and not the same ones as far as firmness, the heat was so dry we all had sore throats and one bloody nose. The 97 charge for two drinks/ snacks a day and use of exercise equipment even though I didn’t want it was just a flat out scam. Other than that is was okay.

Upon arrival at the hotel for a long weekend stay we were “greeted” by a rude woman at check in who promptly informed us that we will be charged $48 per day for facility fee because we made our reservation on Expedia. I asked if the fee could be waived ( we are retired and we’re not going to use the facility which in the case was a gym ) but she said no. During our stay one of the elevators wasn’t working in the hotel . We were given two complimentary bottles if water upon checkin The room was fine , comfortable and quiet. The bathroom was old but it’s an old hotel. We didn’t have any other issues with the hotel except for the extra fees upon check in . All other staff were friendly and helpful. The hotel is conveniently located Grand Central Station and restaurant . There is a lovely rooftop bar and a good restaurant on site too.

The hotel is incredibly well located, which was a big sell for us. We had two adjoining rooms in a suite for us and our kids, and the space was great. The pullout bed was not that comfortable for the kids, but our queen bed was great. We had to ask for extra pillows (there were only two for 4 of us) but we got them right away. Lots of dust in the bedrooms and grime in the bathroom. The kitchenette in the room was very handy for storing things but came with no plates or utensils, so hard to make any food. The location and space of our rooms was great though, so we’d consider staying there again.

We enjoyed our stay in NYC. The Sonesta Shelburne is a wonderful hotel located to many major attractions. The staff was wonderful from the check in to the Valet team. The room was spacious and quiet. The AC was powerful and the housekeeping team did a wonderful job.

Insects in the bathroom, tub was dirty and hair was on one of the towels. When trying to call room service instead of using the online ordering they never picked up. On my last day the power was out expect for the bathroom which was an inconvenience for packing/ charging my electronics. When trying to call guess services to let them know the button on the phone did not work - I had to go downstairs to let them know. Before my stay I called ahead to make sure I had a window view, if not I was willing to upgrade. They said yes but of course I did not. Also please let housekeeping know to wait for a response instead of knocking just once and opening the door. An asian lady did just that on 11/11 around 11:50 am in room 210. Overall I will not be booking a stay in the future with this hotel.

The rooms are quite large and comfy for NYC. There was mold around the sink are that was unsettling. The arrival staff was pleasant, however when we leaving there was a lack of staff and the front desk personell was stressed and short with people. It took longer than necessary to get our car and bags. Overall it was a decent hotel and in a pinch it a fine place to stay.

Had an amazing stay! The room was spacious and the bed comfortable. Favorite part was the private balcony with incredible views of the city. Staff were professional and friendly - they went out of their way to make sure we had a good experience and provided good recommendations of places to go nearby. I would definitely stay here again.

Overall a good place to stay. Good value and good room size. It was a plus that 2 queen beds were available per room. Downsides were the location, a little too far off the beaten path and the condition of the rooms. Drawers were very worn and warped and there was trash in the room upon check in

On the pro side, I definitely shopped around and I believed this to be the best value for the money (I paid an average of $350/night including all taxes/fees) that I could find in Manhattan for the time I was there. Given that, I have no regrets about the choice. The staff were friendly and the room had everything I needed for a short trip where pretty much all I did in the hotel was sleep, shower and change clothes. It was fine for that. Having said that, it's an extremely old and run-down property that I would definitely consider "budget" vs. "boutique." There was an odd smell in my room that I didn't notice until the second day, so no idea what that was from. Also, while the bathroom was huge (largely a waste of space), the shower design was very poor...there was no way to take a shower without the showerhead spraying water direclty onto the bathroom floor, which just made a mess and created a slip hazard.

I stayed here a few times and each time was a good experience but this time the hotel definitely let me down. The staff are flat out rude and ignore you - not one person helped me with the elevator - typically they do it for you and the concierge would stare at you but not help at all. The hotel has changed a lot. I stayed here 9 nights so a longer stay - I would have thought spending so much money the experience would have been pleasant but I would not stay here again and I definitely would not recommend it to anyone. My room was incredibly loud - times square I get it but between the banging of doors all day and night I didn’t sleep and as a result also ended up with covid. I come to NYC a lot for work and in the past enjoyed this hotel but the service has gone downhill.

The front desk needs to work on their courtesy to all guests. It took way too long for me to check in. The room was older and I found hair in the bathroom. At one point there was staff yelling at someone in the hallway. More noise than I’d like in a hotel. I had a do. It disturb sign on but kept getting constantly asked about room service. I probably won’t stay there again.

We checked in with no problems, but later on a group checked in across the hallway and was very, very loud. Clearly here to party, propping open their door and blasting music. Even the chambermaid in the hallway suggested I call the desk. Then I went downstairs and spoke with the nicest, most professsional person who happily changed our room to a quiet, spacious and beautiful one. I never speak up when things like this happen. We travel often and noise is inevitable, but this was bad. Luis was smiling and pleasant, he really took care of us and saw I wasn't happy. This is hotel and its staff are the consumate professionals and they all deserve a bonus. Luis especially!!! We saw him earlier handle a persistent, tough customer with grace and ease. Then later we decided to check out the rooftop bar, which is so beautiful. A wonderful smile greeted us again from the friendly bartender who suggested we eat there for dinner, Vintage Green. The hostess, lovely, polite and sincere (and smiling) got us a nice table. Food was yummy and it was a really enjoyable evening. Anna, our server was excellent too. Rooms are well appointed, comfortable, spacious and with an awesome view of The Empire State Building. We will definitely return to NYC and stay here again!

This is a great location for those who want to avoid the crowds of Times Square, etc. The staff was top-notch- friendly & professional & helpful. It’s a smaller hotel which means you won’t wait long for an elevator & both elevators worked! The rooms were big by NYC standards. Will definitely stay here again!

The staff was terrible, and very rude. The mini fridge was not working and they offered to store a medicine that is temperature sensitive in their refrigerator. Instead, they put it in the freezer. They really put us in a terrible situation, not only they did not reimburse the cost of medicine, but they also did not help us to find a doctor or a pharamcy that could help us renew the prescription. The hotel was well located, an 8 minute walk to Grand Central Station. It had its own restaurant, but also had a great bagel place and pizza slice place just down the street and a 24 hour convenience store on the same block in case you wanted to keep an eye on budget. The reception staff could not have been more helpful and friendly and we really appreciated that. The rooms were spacious and clean, perhaps a tiny bit dated, but its totally insignificant when you are out sight seeing all day. The bed was made up every day and the towels were changed. The beds were very comfy and we had plenty of space. We are a family of 6 and had 3 x 2Queen bed rooms, so each of us had our own bed. It worked really well because we were also located next door to one another (we requested this ahead of time). The roof bar is very boojie and a little bit pricey (we were on a budget) but we went up for a drink and the view was amazing. The restaurant on site served fabulous breakfasts and so we ate there lots - kids loved the pancake stack. Thanks for a great stay.

Hotel is in a great location, close to Grand Central, tons of restaurants, walking distance to Times Square, Broadway theaters and more. Staff were very friendly and helpful, including valets, front desk and housekeeping. Our room was on 2nd floor with no view but we were ok because we spent very little time there, and was able to take the stairs instead of waiting for very slow elevators. Furniture was well-worn and scuffed, including bathroom vanity, and could use some updating. The only issue was very loud construction going on during one day we came back to the room for a nap, we weren’t forewarned about it but it was quiet the rest of the time. New restaurant on rooftop, Vintage Green, is absolutely beautiful with speciality drinks and an approachable menu that is a little, but not too pretentious. Downstairs was another restaurant we didn’t try but the menu looked great. Would definitely recommend this property. And if you can get it for <$300 a night, it’s a definite steal.

Hotel was very accommodating & service there was prompt. Cafe attached to hotel was so convenient in cold weather-yummy food & great service. Rooftop Bar had a lovely view of The Empire State Building but cocktail quality/pricepoint was a mixed bag. Easy walk to Grand Central for access to all trains. Would definitely stay again.

Nice hotel. Great location. Lovely staff. I didn’t much like the restaurant in the hotel, though the staff there was very nice. Great rooftop bar but it gets very crowded. There is a $30 hotdog on the menu! I didn’t order it. Oddly enough the raw oysters which I did order were quite reasonably priced.

We were very happy with Sonesta/Shelborne, the staff was friendly and professional. The hotel looked very clean. The food at restaurant was delicious. The rooftop bar was gorgeous. We didn't meet one staff that didn't make us at home.

There is nothing fancy about the hotel but it works. Beds were good and the nights quiet. Friendly staff. Cozy rooftop bar. The restaurant on the ground floor is nothing special. The best thing about the hotel is for sure the location. Quiet neighborhood and very easy to get around Manhattan from there. Really good deal for the price.
