As soon as we walked into the hotel we were faced with a stunning view over Portpatrick from the huge window in reception. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Our room was bigger than expected and had a balcony with a view over Portpatrick and out to sea.

Great hotel with spectacular views from our room with a balcony and in restaurant, only downside was broken loo seat which was a small inconvenience. Comfy bed, good cleanliness and staff were very friendly and efficient. Food was delicious for dinner and breakfast. Definitely would go back again for longer than 1 night next time. Highly recommend it.

Admittedly we booked late and were allotted the last room. However, that does not mean we should put up with a room which smelled musty, was cold and dirty. The dirt was not just one day's poor cleaning but a build up over many weeks/months. We could hardly get to the toilet for the position of the wash hand basin. The edge of the shower tray was filthy, as were some of the adjacent skirtings. The chrome was rusting on towel rail and shelf above whb. Cobwebs and dust prevailed in the en suite and room. The electric socket next to the bed was detached from the wall and left exposed. We did voice our complaints at reception, backed up by photos taken. We opted not to take breakfast and check out early. The receptionist did not charge for our evening meal, which we could not fault, in light of our complaints. However, we are now unlikely to return to Fernhill nor recommend it to others.

The hotel and rooms were clean, comfortable and quite large. Shower was powerful. Food was very nice and the service was first class. Views from our room and the dining room were stunning in this lovely part of southwest Scotland. We would be happy to return and also recommend it to others.

Stayed for 1 night, we were given room 7, a very nice large room with comfortable chairs and a sofa with a view of the harbour. Tea/coffee making facilities provided, bed was comfortable. Very large bathroom with a walk in shower. Had dinner in the hotel and breakfast, both very good and good service in the restaurant.

Absolutely ruined my birthday trip away room was disgusting bathroom had hairs and fluids in it including wood lice which management said was just one but had too flush several down toilet got management too clean toilet but was still disgusting missed all hairs on wall and spray marks had foil holding shower in place living are had debris all over which had too clean myself when entered room. WiFi was no existent spoke too staff numerous to me about this to no avail. Breakfast was unpalatable and meger. Fire alarm was set off in middle of night with staff not having a clue what to do fire doors left open and bang throughout night so don't expect much sleep at this hotel worst trip ever had and for a 3 supposed 4 star hotel was appalling avoid at all costs!!!!

Impressed from the minute we arrived. Checking in was easy with help offered to get luggage from car. Wow the room view was exceptional. Town/sea views. Meal was exquisite. Staff very professional but friendly chatty if you asked anything. Restaurant views amazing. Breakfast was great. Nothing was to much trouble. Our only regret was not booking a longer stay.

We stayed at Fernhill during a recent visit to the area to visit family. The hotel is well situated for the Southern Highland Way and other excellent walks and attractions in SW Scotland. We would definitely recommend Fernhill for your next visit to Portpatrick.

The property is well placed with fine views. The staff were excellent and the rooms and meals were very good. Straight forward short walk to the town and sea front but it is steep for anyone with mobility problems. Great location for a short break.
