The hotel are trying to continue trading while major renovation work is being carried out and it’s not working: the main entrance is closed off, there are boards everywhere,reception is a mess, air con doesn’t work, windows sealed closed, one lift is slow, room was tiny and so hot and worst of all on morning of check out there was no water at all! Couldn’t shave, couldn’t shower, couldn’t make a hot drink and only the water already in the toilet so couid use maybe twice. It affected the whole hotel so no option to use another room and when I complained at check out i was offered a free drink at the bar as adequate compensation. I’m about to drive home so alcohol is not an option so it equates to a free soft drink. The hotel did not make me aware of any of these problems in advance of booking or whilst in my room. Totally unacceptable!

Stayed here 3 weeks ago and the lift wasn't working. It's still not working. I think both The Met and Hotels.com should advise potential guests as its a 5 storey building

Lovely hotel, beautiful room. Our only complaint was the £20 parking fee, especially as we were only there for 1 night. Thankfully the manager agreed to reduce it to £10 as this charge was not mentioned on Expedia.

It was okay. The room was quite small, the bathroom was cold, and the parking was a nightmare. I asked for a quiet room but was awoken by outside noise at around 4:30. My room had no USB sockets, the windows were old fashioned and single glazed. The staff were very nice, on the plus side, however. The worst was the parking on site. A charge of £20, for limited spaces that meant the only way out was to reverse either up or down a ramp into busy traffic, through a tight-ish stone archway (that is so easy to miss on arrival as there's no signage) is very overpriced. Any rest you might get from a night in the hotel swiftly evaporates when you try to leave the carpark!

The hotel is looking great in the parts that are already refurbished. The rooms are comfortable, stylish and well equipped. A professional team and a great location. They is still work going on the bar is a bit makeshift and the stairs are a hazard, but it's not too much of an inconvenience. Just hope they keep the prices reasonable.

This hotel has the potential to be beautiful but it was tired looking and in need of updating. Our room was huge but the windows -which were behind scaffolding- were filthy, the floor tiles in the bathroom were cracked and moved under foot, the toilet moved as you sat on it and the cistern was cracked, the grout around the bath was falling off, the curtains had dirty marks that looked like blood on and the carpet was worn on the communal stairs The bar was poorly stocked and did not have any of the drinks we requested However the staff were friendly and pleasant, it was generally clean and the building is stunning (behind the scaffolding) with a beautiful staircase and nice lounge area The car park was poorly signed and we ended up in a local multi story and the location was good

The hotel was a great location, really central, and the cleaning staff were particularly friendly. However the hotel building is very run down, there were marks on the bedroom walls and significant dust and dirt around the windows. On the night of our arrival there was a university of 6th form ball which was loud and meant that the bar was out of action, I had not been warned about this in advance. There were also significant works being done to the hotel which were along our corridor and outside. This meant we heard banging and drilling on our first morning. The staff were friendly!

The hotel is being refurbished to a very high standard, in keeping with its history. The staff were very professional. The room waa very clean and bed very comfortable. Excellent bathroom and shower. The breakfast was very good, with good options. The bar was well stocked and not overly expensive. A highly recommended hotel.

The room was dilapidated. Part of the carpet near the window looked melted. Paint flaking off. Generally quite grubby. I decided not to get a shower after seeing the state of the bottom of the bath. Didnt complain as i was only in one night so they possibly would have rectified some issues.

First room we were given was not clean, was tired looking and did not reflect the booking we made. We were moved to another room when we complain. Second room was ok. On checking in we were advised that there were two functions in the lobby and would be a lot of people around that area later on in the evening, no problem with that. The music playing late into the night was not mentioned and totally unacceptable. Followed by noise all through the night into the early hours. A better night on Sunday though, but why empty the glass bottle bins at 4:30am?????

Stayed for a night as we were seeing Billy Ocean. Great location and we got parking which was £20. We noticed the hotel is being renovated and they gave us a lovely room on the 6th floor. It was very hot and there was no aircon which we were told but though the receptionist was friendly, at the time told us it was hot and about the aircon not working but did not offer us a fan. I think we payed high price for the room I don’t know if it was because the had gigs going on in Leeds but for what I payed for the night compared to normal it was expensive. We weee boiling hot and hot back too late to ask for a fan and just had cold showers. We expressed this in the morning and was told they had fans but did mention that it was never offered to us. The hotel was clean, staff friendly and breakfast was lovely and they catered for Gluten free. However because of the price of the room for that night and not being offered a fan, we were abit disappointed.

Hotel was undergoing renovation when we stayed so there was some noise going on. In addition, there was a lot of outdoor noise during the night. (I know the hotel can't control what happens outside, but double glazing might help). The Aircon in the room was out of order so it got quite warm (we kept the windows closed to try to keep the noise level down) Other than that, the room was very clean, bed was comfortable and the breakfast was very good

The newly refurbished room was fabulous. Comfy bed, amazing shower, incredible toiletries. Separate work area was great. Be mindful that the hotel is still being renovated so no restful lie in on a weekday morning. Staff at check in was excellent.

This place has been refurbished to a very high standard and the rooms show it. The breakfast was of very good quality and variety. The hotel is only a short walk in to town and the staff are all very polite. A great stay I will be using them again

Whilst there is still some renovation work taking place this did not impact on the Hotel - Room was spacious and Modern - Breakfast was first class and superbly cooked hot breakfast options best I have had in ages - compliments to the ktchen - healthy options as well - nice breakfast lounge - Limited parking but was able to park which was a bonus - well placed for Leeds first direct Arena and City

Enjoyed a lovely overnight stay alongside my sister. The vast majority of the hotel has been renovated now, and it all appears to be to a really high standard. The room was modern, a good size and the bed was super comfortable. The shower was powerful and hot too! The breakfast was delicious, a nice buffet selection. The staff were all friendly and helpful. Highly recommend this hotel and would encourage anyone viewing any reviews pre-refurbishment to ignore them and look at the recent ones.

The staff here are so friendly and knowledgeable about the history of this beautiful hotel We always stay here, we absolutely love it 5 stars for the staff. So professional and made us so welcomed hotel is being renovated, but that just made it more fun, the workmen were hilarious . Was still very quiet and comfortable

The hotel was in a good location and most of the staff were very nice, but the receptionist who checked us in spoilt our trip. We had booked a room for myself, my husband and our 17 yr old son and had booking confirmation of this. When we checked in she told us we had only booked for 2 adults and that there were no rooms available for our son. We showed her the confirmation and she said that Expedia "always do this" and that we should have phoned the hotel to double confirm in advance. She asked if the 3 of us were happy to share a kingsize bed?!! Eventually she 'found' 2 connecting rooms on the sixth floor. The lift was broken, but she relucatntly said someone could take us up in the service lift. In the morning when we went to have breakfast we were told were had only paid for 2 breakfasts and asked if we were happy to pay extra for our son? Both times our booking was 'challenged' was in front of other guests. We were really pleased with this booking before we arrived. We booked 24 hrs before when the price was reduced. Instead of enjoying the trip we were made to feel as if we were ripping off the hotel. The receptionist was called Agnes and she could have been a lot more professional. The rooms she found us were better than we thought - we were expecting an extra bed in 1 room and we got 2 rooms with a kingsize and double but she repeated the mix up was our fault as well as Expedia's incompetence. At no point did she offer an apology. I am disappointed.

We stayed here as we were attending a concert at the arena. The hotel was in the perfect location for the train station which was just around the corner. It was a bit of a walk to the arena but we wanted to get food on the way so it gave us the opportunity to find somewhere. At check in the staff were super polite and ensured we had all the information we needed. The room was clean and tidy and the facilities in the room were great with an iron and hairdryer to hand if needed. We booked the breakfast in the morning which was beautifully cooked and very filling. All the staff we encountered were friendly and helpful. We'd definitely stay here again.

Hotel was well located only a few minutes away from the city centre. Room was clean & comfortable and shower was good. Ever so slightly pricey but that was due to my last minute booking. Overall a great stay 10/10 would recommend

The overall appearance was ineed of an update. The room was ok ecept the bathroom which looked like it had been attacked by a man with a silicone gun, very ugly. The shower was either boiling or freezing no in-between. Food on the other hand was very good.

The hotel was just what we wanted close to the city centre with parking this was at an additional cost but it was only £20 for 24hours. The room was dated but it had all the essential facilities, hair dryer, tea and coffee, iron, shampoo conditioner and shower gel all of this was good quality and I used it instead of unpacking my own. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was very good with a great selection. We would definitely stay again if we came to Leeds.
