1.room lamps dark, can hardly read a book at night. 2.toilet seat lid can't stay upright, very low quality product. 3.bedside table has unknown liquid like glue. 4.Not a friendly check-in using a machine, staff seems not patient for the instructions when checking in 10pm as not familiar using the machine. 5.carpark always full after 10pm, have to park on street with extra 5min walking, particularly in the raining days. 6. buffet breakfast not many options you can choose 7. Abnormal noise at the nighttime, maybe the sounds from AC, but the AC not turning on at all. 8.stickly hairdryer handle. 9.compare to other Mercure hotels, this Mercure Newcastle hotel may not be your prefer one.

That you pay for a car space and you go out and when you come back you can't get a space due to many cars have been let in. This was very disappointing. Otherwise, great stay.

Enjoyable stay. Only neg comment is the pool ladder steps, not easy to negotiate for an older adult especially if you've got large feet, the steps are tiny. Otherwise recommend this place if you want to fe in the city without a huge price.

Our room faced the street and the windows could not be shut properly. At night, the sounds from motorbikes and cars roaring up and down the street kept us up until past midnight. In addition, the shower head in our room was not able to stay in upright position properly and had to be adjusted every so often. The pool was small and cold, breakfast choices were limited. Overall we’re not impressed with the stay and would not return.

Had their pump out contractor arrive at 0600 with a noisy pump, rang reception and they said they had multiple complains to top it off the windows they left open wouldn’t close and the smell from the suck truck was disgusting Said when spoke to him that they would look after me at check out, when I checked out the manager just kept saying they would give me a good rate next time I stayed, with the bad experience I had I don’t think I would be back, their only excuse was they can’t know when the truck will come, my response was well it’s a hotel the company should of been told by management to come during the day when most people are awake Room was very dusty and some features in the bathroom were falling off the walls, vents and AC hadn’t been cleaned in years. Stains on carpets, very dark hallways very dated and for 300 bucks for one night wasn’t impressed

Convenient location. Very dated. Toilet was dirty when we checked in to our room. The Aircon was set to cold in the middle of winter so we woke up freezing in the middle of the night as the quilts were so thin and didn't keep us warm as we just assumed it would be set to heat. We pre booked breakfast for the next morning, but when we arrived at breakfast we were were questioned several times that nobody had put us on the list for a prebooked breakfast. The breakfast wasn't worth the money as there was very little food in the Bay Marie's and we had to ask for more hot food.

My room was very spacious, well appointed and great for staying more than one night. The room was very clean and comfortable, with everything I needed. While the Mercure might be getting a little dated (they are renovating), it is still a great place to rest your head and see Newcastle.

The bed was very, very comfortable. There were ants about. The bins were so small that it was difficult to dispose of rubbish. No tea towels were provided, though crockery, cutlery and a microwave were. An oversight?

My experience at Mercure Newcastle was disappointing. The hotel felt outdated, with poor soundproofing – I could clearly hear conversations and TV noise from the next room. Property is tired. Telephone and safe did not work in the room. Blocked drain in the bathroom spewed shower water on the bathroom floor. Construction site noise adjacent to the hotel. Construction noise at night opposite the hotel. Room was advertised with a queen sized bed but was in fact two singles pushed together. Keep falling down the crack between the two.

My room was very spacious, well appointed and great for staying more than one night. The room was very clean and comfortable, with everything I needed. While the Mercure might be getting a little dated (they are renovating), it is still a great place to rest your head and see Newcastle.

Room generally clean and tidy. Bathroom dated, taps on shower did not work so had to take bath instead (very difficult for hubby as he has bad hip). Toilet seat loose, almost coming off. Iron had goop stuck to the soleplate and had to be replaced. Room key card faulty. Staff were fantastic, fixed problems immediately and with good attitude. Overall Hotel seems a bit tired and is letting down the good staff.

Originally booked 1 night through Wotif. Tried to book an extra night through the hotel but the staff was very unhelpful. Then tried to book the extra night through Wotif but the only way to do it was to cancel the original booking and rebook. The hotel would not waiver the cancellation fee even thou I was rebooking on the spot for 2 nights not 1. Booked my extra night in another hotel so they lost out. Also states on Wotif that parking is available. When I arrived I was told no parking available as the car park was full. Only option was to park on the street which there was no parking or across the main road and up a side street. The room was noisy due to the traffic. The buffet breakfast was less than ideal. And the staff on the front desk were rude. Will definitely not be wasting my money to stay there again.

Extremely rude receptionist who had a bad attitude right from the start. I mentioned I had called the day before to ask about an early check in. The lady I had spoken to said if the room was ready we’d be able to check in, but couldn’t guarantee it. No mention of a charge. Upon check in, receptionist said room was ready but it’d be $60 to check in early. We arrived at 12.30 so 1.5 hours early. I said the lady on the phone never mentioned a charge. Receptionist said “of course there’s a charge, we had to get the room ready for you early!” She then proceeded to tell me that all hotels in the world charge for early and late check ins. I said no they don’t. She said yes they do and kept arguing with me!! She was just unbelievably rude and it was totally unnecessary. The room had some gross thing stuck to the bedside table and there was someone else’s old food in the fridge. Won’t be staying there again!!

Initially I read the reviews after booking and was regretting my choice, however once I arrived I was pleasantly surprised, This is a lovely place to stay and the food is good too. The thing that makes this place is the staff, every single staff member I spoke to was helpful and friendly even going above what one would reasonably expect. Great place to stay, and I’m glad I didn’t read the reviews first.

Good location for walking or tramming into the CBD. Hotel is in need of refurbishment with most of the city block now under redevelopment. Average outside appearance and OK inside. Parking was $15/night and is limited. Area around the hotel was not the best at night with noise from a 24/7 McDonalds most of the night.

The place is fine to stay in, and the staff are fantastic. I did feel unsafe at night walking home from a harbour cruise - lot's of noise, loud cars cruising around, etc. But to be fair I had no trouble.

It’s an old hotel. The outer windows were filthy. And there was a lot of building noise from next door. I had a terrible desert on the night and that convinced me not to buy breakfast. Overall, the pix used to entice me to book were a bit of a lie and deceiving.

Comfortable bed to sleep on. Area around hotel seems dodgy with lots of construction Self Checking in and checking out process seems clunky but am sure will improve...let the customer do it themselves and don't come and talk over us...if you want it to be self done! Sadly dinner for 7 was disappointing. Food actually ok but waitress looked as though she would rather be elsewhere. Bill was put through as 'lunch and room service' which was confusing on checking out
