Old fashioned lodge in a quiet, backwoods California setting. Room was comfortable and clean. Service was excellent. Only minor complaint was the outdoor pool was in need of cleaning from lots of leaves - but I imagine that's hard to keep up with.

The location was conveniently located near anything we needed during our stay. The staff was very friendly and I loved the cats that hang out on the property. The pool (although not heated) has a magnificent back drop of the mountain. The WiFi available was unreliable and I often had to walk up to the office to get any, but that didn’t ruin my trip. The walls were kinda thin and you can hear most of of what is going on around you. The coffee machine in the rooms came with three mini liquid coffee mate creamers which was nice. The carpets were clean, no weird stains anywhere, no weird smells, and I would definitely consider staying here again.

Good location and overall facility. A/C in room was noisy. Shower leaked water around base of doors when used. Hotel staff was nice and helpful. Parking lot fills up on weekends.

Very friendly and helpful staff. The walls are relatively thin so you can definitely hear what’s going on in the next room, but it wasn’t a problem for us. The pool area is quite lovely sunny clean and relaxing. You can’t beat the location either.

My girlfriend and I really enjoyed our couple days here. Pool was very clean both gentlemen that worked the desk were extremely nice. Walking distance to the cozy little town. And great motorcycle rides in all directions

The pool is big and nice. Beds and pillows great. Small,quiet town surrounded by trees.

Very family friendly amenities, and the (unheated) pool was enjoyed by the aquaphiles in our group. Location is central to Russian River and Sonoma Coast. Scenery is breathtaking, and people welcoming.

It is a basic, clean, no frills motel, which is what I would expect for about $100 a night. The TV got a lot of channels and had an easy to use remote! The bed was pretty comfortable, but definitely bring your own pillows. It had a nice pool, though it was too cool to swim, but the furnishings around the pool were comfortable to sit and lay on. The biggest downside for me was how noisy it was being on a bottom floor, because I could hear the people above me walking back-and-forth and back back-and-forth nonstop. Definitely bring earplugs! It had a coffee maker, microwave, and mini fridge. There was a farmers market going on across the street and there is a market there to buy food. It’s surrounded by a hillside with nice trees. The soda machine doesn’t work, but you purchase water and a few sodas inside the office for $2 each. If I were to stay again, I would definitely ask for a second floor room in the back by the swimming pool, because it looks like a newer wing. Although I’m sure if the weather were hot, that room would be noisy because of kids in the pool. So maybe a second floor room somewhere in the middle of the property.

Stay was quiet and comfortable. Room clean and spacious. Good location. Free parking but limited. No breakfast on site. Friendly staff.

The host was very friendly and helpful. The room had an odd layout but not a big deal… however when we went to bed we observed small blood stains on the sheets and smashed bedbugs on the walls. It was very late but they were able to move us to a different room but it was poorly maintained and outdated. There was no soap or remote control in either room. When I arrived to complain in the morning, the lobby was completely empty.

The staff was very friendly and upgraded us to one of the newly refinished rooms. We have stayed here multiple times and always enjoyed it. Clean, quiet, and beds were comfortable.

Older lodge with character. Instant hot water in shower. Coffee was bad. Beds were comfortable. The room was clean but lacked soap. Need to bring your own. Walking distance to several shops and restaurants.

Everything was perfect, the room was so big, comfy and perfectly clean. The receptionists were very helpful and nice, thank you very much i will come back for sure!

The best part is the location, in the charming town of Occidental. The "deluxe king" room we stayed in needs a paint job and thorough cleaning. The walls were covered in scuff marks and we found hair on the bathroom floor, ceiling and in the bedroom area. Two of the blinds were cracked off and the room felt very depressing, with mostly bare walls and exposed cables coming from the TV. We didn't expect much at this low price for the area but what we found was disappointing.

The hotel was very clean and the staff were very kind to us. They made some suggestions about dinning places and they were perfect. We really enjoyed the 3 days we stayed there.

The town is so cute. It’s a shame this motel is such a missed opportunity. It has potential but shabby is an understatement. The wallpaper was peeling at almost every seam, literal cobwebs in the bathroom and in the window, crusted dirt on the nightstand. It just really gave an icky impression. Not sure where the rooms are in the photos but room 104 needs updating BAD!

This property needs major updating. Sheets were clean and bed was comfortable. Carpet was damp throughout the room, but not from being shampooed. It was gross. Was the only room available. Would not stay here again.

Absolutely filthy property. Room was full of mold and cigarette smell. The walls were scratched and paint was chipping. Beyond dated. Bathroom paint peeling off walls. Spiders and moths alive and dead in the room. I cannot believe this property hasn’t been shut down for health reasons. And not enough parking so you’re walking all over property to get to your room. Unbelievable.

We had a two room suite. The size was great, it’s basically an apartment from the early 80’s. Unfortunately it’s really run down, like holes in the walls, huge cobwebs, peeling paper etc. the furniture looks cute but is crazy uncomfortable. There’s not any paper products(like a stir stick for the coffee). It was quite and spacious.

pro : Location is excellent that right in downtown that walk to everything, staff are friendly, room is clean , bed is comfortable. Con : wood structure building so you can easily hear neighbors are walking or talking. It’s good stay and all guests are well behaved so you don’t hear noise after 10 pm

Property in poor condition. No shampoo/shower gel in bathroom. Horrible mattress.

We got one of the recently-remodeled rooms, and it was very nice and cozy. The beds were comfortable, and the room was very clean. The gentleman that checked us in was extremely nice and even offered to help with luggage. If we come back to the area we would absolutely stay here again. For those showing up to the area after 5-6pm, please be aware that basically everything here and in Bodega Bay shuts down super early so plan your dinner accordingly.

Staff was very kind and chatty, and exterior looked nice. We stayed in a two-bedroom suite with a kitchenette. However there were no amenities in the kitchen- every drawer and cupboard was completely bare. Not even a napkin, plastic spoon, or a dish towel. Beds were super creaky- could hear every spring move. Walls were dirty- need a new coat of paint. Everything was very old and in need of some TLC.

The town is delightful! Although this room was notes to have a kitchen, there was no dishes to eat off of or cook on, nor were there any silverware.

Only negative was noise from neighboring rooms, including VERY early in the morning. But I realise this comes with the territory (of a motel).

Not a destination resort, but definitely budget friendly for travelers, trekkers, dreamers, etc. ** Travel tip: If you’re going to a beach, hiking trail, destination park GO EARLY! The park, parking lot and trails fill up mid-morning. Expect bus loads of kids mid morning, which may affect your serenity ….

Very friendly and accommodating. The room was very clean. The only negative was that I could hear the person snoring next door.

This Lodge surprised me. All the rooms are slightly different looking and we were given the option to pick our own room since they were not super busy. The gentleman at the counter, Ryder, was absolutely professional and welcoming, very kind and helped us find the best room for our needs. All the rooms are very clean well put together and comfortable. We picked one with a king size bed on the second floor. They have a sweet with two queen size beds in separate rooms on the ground floor that looks absolutely amazing and we will pick next time. The property is quiet and well placed in the small town of occidental. Right across the street is a great place for breakfast and a wonderful oat milk latte. The food options are plentiful, serving some big and the prices absolutely reasonable. For dinner there are couple of choices but I must warn you only open on the weekends. We went into Santa Rosa to do some food as well which was only 25 to 30 minute drive. Occidental sits in a beautiful area of Redwood forests, and if you're looking to go ziplining there is canopy Adventures only 5 minutes from the lodge. We had a great time and will absolutely return! We highly recommend above any hotel. They have some rooms that are dog friendly and some rooms that they intentionally don't allow any pets for people who may have allergies or preferences. There were no signs or smells of any other pets ever having been in the room we stayed in with our little fur friend.

Great place to stay. Clean and tidy and the bed was very comfortable. Staff at reception were very helpful and informative. Howard Station is directly across the road and do a fantastic breakfast. Overall, Occidental is a lovely little village, off the beaten track.

Front desk clerk was wonderful, he was friendly and helpful. He recommended places to eat. Keep in mind most are closed during the week. We got coffee and breakfast at Bohemian Market, had lunch at Howard Station Cafe. We had a pizza and salad at Union Hotel. We wanted to try Negris and Hazel but both were too busy on a Sunday. Beds were soft and comfortable. The pool was too cold to use but it was a nice place to sit. If you’re adventurous I’d recommend the zipline course two miles away.

The hotel was comfortable but what really stands out was Ryder, the receptionist. He went above and beyond to make sure our stay was as comfortable as it could be. He even brought his own herbal tea from home for us. We are extremely grateful for his hospitality.

I couldn’t stop thinking I was being discriminated at the time of check in. I had already asked for an early check in, the man asked me to come back later since the room was being cleaned. Got back and two other couples walked in at the same time, the man said “2 rooms available” and gave it to them when I had been there before they did. He had the audacity to tell me “checking time is at 3 pm and smile at the other guest”. This was plain wrong. I don’t what to mention the race of the other guest, but I’m sure you’d have a pretty good idea .

The FIRE alarm started going on and off a few times starting after 10:30 p.m. it was very worrisome with only 911 left to call. We do not smoke… The office was closed so no one was available to help. I finially got it to stop. It was very troublesome. I left a message on the office phone that was listed but they were gone for the night. It is a hard wired alarm! When we checked out at 9:00 they had not listened to the message…. The office staff did not show any concern about the inconvenience…. Needless to say we will not be returning…

We made a VERY last minute reservation (on our way there at 9:20pm), and the manager was absolutely incredible. We were stressed, and after talking with him were once again in vacay mode. The room was so nice, comfy, and just what we needed. Would 100% go back with a planned reservation. 🤗

The people in the room next to ours took the room chairs outside and proceeded to drink and talk loudly all evening outside our room which was annoying for sure. It is nicely located across from the breakfast restaurant which is excellent. Note that most of the restaurants in town only open thu/fri to sunday so mid week kinda nothing to eat in town.

Comfortable, not a luxury hotel, but good for a family getaway to the woods and Russian River. Check-in was easy and the staff are very pleasant. Pool was clean, my kid enjoyed it the two days we stayed. Easy to get to Monte Rio/Guerneville/Bodega Bay. A few restaurants within a block radius (town is only a few blocks long!), recommend Howard’s Station Cafe for breakfast, and Joe’s Bar/Negri’s restaurant (same place) for dinner.

This is a very nice hotel in the peaceful little town of Occidental. It is spacious, clean, with the usual amenities like microwave, fridge etc. Our room was newly renovated. It had a large table with two chairs overlooking the grounds, pool and the surrounding area of big trees, through a large window. The bed was very comfortable and the room was pleasant. The town is small but it has some shops and eateries all within walking distance. I would recommend this place.

The towns restaurants weren't much better with only one open each evening with none open on Tuesday evening. I would recommend you look at the town web site for days and times eateries are open. The front desk clerk was friendly and accommodating, and the superior queen room was very comfortable, with cozy, comfy beds and cork floors. Also, I thought the view from the room was really beautiful, overlooking the picturesque town. There's a great breakfast place, Howard's Station, right across the street, and we enjoyed their smoothies, pancakes, and scrambles both days we were there. El Mariachi Cafe across the street was also very good--street tacos and jamaica hit the spot on a hot day. The pool, apparently not heated, was cool and refreshing (found one salamander by the pool, very cute). The pool is surrounded by redwood trees, which gave it a peaceful feel. It was a quick drive (about 20 minutes) to Burke's Canoes where we went to enjoy a day of canoeing. I think this spot is a great, comfortable, budget-friendly option for people looking to land in the Russian River area. I'm sure we will be back again!

Small town, good rates. Hotel is modern, room was very clean. Restaurants in town all seem to close by 7. Would we stay again? Absolutely, but we would have something in our cooler for dinner!

Cute, updated room, bed was comfortable. Area was quaint and quiet. Good food within walking distance. The only complaint is about the in room coffee…it was missing and we had to go ask for it and then it was really awful. More awful than usual hotel coffee. Feels like they really skimped in this area.

We were in Occidental for a music and dance weekend. The area was very lovely, surrounded by trees. The location was ideal, everything was within walking distance and although breakfast was not included, there were several cafes across the street. I was pleased to find both a microwave and mini-fridge in the room as well.
