Property description

Nestled on a private 310-acre island just 3. 5 km from Waterford, Ireland's oldest city, this historic estate was once home to the Fitzgerald family for 800 years. The castle's oldest sections date back to the mid-16th century. Guests can enjoy the tranquil island setting, surrounded by nature and native deer. The estate offers a range of luxurious accommodations. The two-story Castle Garden Lodges are a 2-minute drive from the main castle. Each lodge features three double bedrooms upstairs and an open-plan kitchen/living area downstairs. Designed to maximize space and light, the ground floor boasts porcelain tiling and underfloor heating, creating a seamless flow throughout. Full-height doors and a glazed wall flanking the timber staircase lead to a light-filled upper level. Upstairs, floating ceilings with integrated lighting and high-gloss fixtures add a contemporary touch. Each lodge includes a fully equipped kitchen, a breakfast bar, and a dining area for six. Please note that portable/disposable BBQs are not permitted. A €5 resort and island fee is payable upon departure. A daily gas and electricity charge also applies: €7. 00 per day from January to June and September to December, and €5. 00 per day in July and August. For inquiries about private events at the castle, please contact us directly at +353 (0)51 878203 or email info@waterfordcastleresort. com before booking.

We actually left a day early than we had booked. The property was unkept, especially the landscape. We woke up on the last day very early in the moring to tractor work. They were working on some underground pipe. They also delivered one large bottle of water for three people as they received notification that the water was unsafe to drink.

The lodge that we stayed in was comfortable and clean, but the rest of the property was in poor condition. The wifi didn't work the first day. We called and they said they were out of range boosters, nothing they could do. The activity aspect of the lodges was really disappointing: There were no nets on the soccer goals or soccer balls available, the crocket was missing most of the balls, the tennis court was filthy and there was no archery or falconing (which we expected based on photos and a video they have on youtube). We did enjoy hitting some balls on the range and the afternoon tea was delightful.

Property was nice. Wished we had more time to spend. The lack of AC was rather an issue though. It was 27* in the unit making it impossible to sleep.
