Holiday Inn Express & Suites Salt Lake City South-Murray by IHG

Lots of renovations I didn’t know about before the stay. Gym and pool were closed, which I was really bummed about. Breakfast didn’t have a lot of good options IMO, wasn’t as good as other reviews made it sound.

Should let people know you are remodeling your pool and it's closed.

Likeb the room just fine. The unadvertised closure of the pool and hot tub was a major drawback as it was one of the reasons why I chose the hotel.

Passing through on a road trip. Room was clean. The women checking us in was so friendly. Breakfast was a bonus, better than expected. The only big bummer was we picked this place because it has a hot tub and pool, however they were broken.

One lady was nice, other was rude. There was urine on the bottom of the toilet. Tv did not work. The pool was closed due to chemicals.

Key machine was broken, so the front desk clerk had to ride up the elevator every time we needed to get back into our room. Inconvenient to say the least.

Key ststem was down, so a staff member had to accompany you back to your room to let you in whenever you decided to leave your room.

The thermostat quit working my first night here (stayed 2 nights). No maintenance person on site at night so they said they would address it in the morning. No A/C overnight. Thank goodness it was cool outside. Poor maintenance guy (a hard worker) spent about a hour and a half trying to fix it the next day—at the insistence of the front desk—but, could not fix it. So, they decided (in their infinite wisdom) that I should move to a different room. A bit of a pain, but I survived it. In the first room, one light didn’t work—no light bulb! There are 2 ice machines on-site. One did not work at all, the other dispensed a few cubes before—no more. I’m not sure why Holiday Inn wants their name associated with this place.

This is twice, we booked a stay because they had a pool/hot tub. And they were unavailable due to construction. Although we appreciate updates and all, it would be lovely if they could let people know prior to booking. There was very little in the store (no drinks at all for 2-3 days). The breakfast was very, very limited. No fresh fruit, no almond or soy milk, no orange juice, etc. We didn’t move to a different hotel because of booking through hotels.com, but we would have if we had booked directly. We will not book here again (and we visit Salt Lake City at least 4times a year).

I booked this because of its location and the amenities available (indoor pool & gym) and was really disappointed to check in and find out that both of those amenities were closed for renovations. At no point during the booking process was it disclosed that they were not going to be available during our stay which sucked and I would have booked another hotel that had them open. The hotel room was in a sad state, the entertainment center had a door with a missing hinge so when my little one tried opening it, the whole door almost fell onto her. The beds were hard as rocks and the shower was dirty.

This hotel is very dirty

Stayed at this hotel numerous times over the last few years based on location, it's easy to access...and is a straight shot to venues & stores we frequent. Usually we have zero complaints, as I feel it's an above average hotel for the price...however this time there was something that caught my attention and couldn't be overlooked. All of the furniture in the room (with the exception of the bed) was very dirty and stained, covered with what appear to be either grease spots or drink spills, etc...the lounge chair, ottoman table chairs, sofa - all of it was stained. I'm not the type who likes to complain or searches for a reason to complain, but this just couldn't be ignored...all of the furniture in that room needs to be steamed & deep cleaned.

The room I booked they had over booked so I did not get the room I booked and the person checking me in didn’t know how to do a refund for the difference due to the room I ended up in was cheaper. The hallway on the floor I was on smelled like urine. The door in the bathroom leaked water out of it and soaked the floor in the bathroom. There was hair on the bed. The pool room was unbelievably hot. I was very disappointed with my stay.

My bed was comfortable. The outside smoking area was flooding with cigarettes and ash everywhere on the bench and the ground. It stunk even just walking by it. Especially after it rained and got hot the smell was atrocious. The hallways and elevators were at least 75 degrees, no building ac? Just room ac which worked decently. There were (x2) toenail clippings on the side of the bed facing the window in my room #319 that I stepped on.. absolutely disgusting, and they were sharp and giant. Beer in the microwave?? And bottle caps on top of it. Overall room cleanliness was about a 5.5/10.

Desk lady seem bothered. Chairs were stained in the rooms. Bathroom shower was dirty dust everywhere hair on the floor ice machine machines were all broken besides the fourth floor. Side doors were either out of order or missing handles really hot in the hallways.

Diappointed!! Not very clean, stained carpets and furniture. TV shook as you wslk by. Dated!!

The 4th floor smells like sewer as you get off the elevator and in the hall, they have a glade plug in. Not taking care of the smell.

Check in was ok. Our room was disgusting. Toothpaste on the counter in bathroom and tub was questionable. It make a nights stay pretty miserable thinking what else isn’t clean if the sink wasn’t even cleaned.

Room wasn’t clean, we had to switch rooms.

They were very kind to us at check in and let us get in our room a little early. However, the room we got put in wasn't the same quality we're used to at Holiday Inn rooms. The carpet had quite a few burn marks which wasn't the end of the world, but what i didn't like was the ottoman in the room was very stained and dirty looking. I also still haven't received my $100 deposit back after 2 weeks.

The front desk was slow checking us in. The lobby was nice and cool but when we got to the third floor it was hot. Our room was probably 90 degrees when we got there. It took 6-7 hours to cool the room down enough to sleep. I went down to get a snack for my son and the lady at the front desk couldn't figure out how to sign in and said "come back in 30 minutes". I then asked her for towels (since the room only had 1 in it), regular coffee (since there was only decaf in the room) and body wash (since the bottle in the shower was empty. She wrote everything down and said she would have someone bring it up to the room. Nobody ever came so I went back down to the desk hoping to find someone else to help me. A different lady was there and she was able to sell me a snack and I asked her for the supplies. She went around the corner and grabbed everything in less than a minute. The original lady showed up and grabbed her list that she wrote for me an hour earlier and said she forgot. When I got back to the room, we went to make the bed on the pull out sofa and there were no sheets for it. We called down and they said they'd bring it up. Thirty minutes passed so I went to the front desk to get them myself. All little things that normally wouldn't bother me individually but since they all happened in such a short time, I was really irritated. Don't think I'll be staying here again.

The room we were in (420) had a "flashing" billboard less than 1/2 a block away and it changed advertisements ever few minutes. We had no way to close off the window, so had to contend with this all night long. The drapes could not be pulled. I would recommend they remedy this situation for other travelers.

Broken furniture and uncomfortable beds

Very close to area that we needed. Overall nice place. The room we were placed in was right next to an exit and the walls were thin enough it woke us up several times during the night due to outside door slamming shut. Maybe consider a soft close for the door or some thin weather stripping to soften the noise.

The room was clean, bed was comfortable. The only thing that was bad was the air conditioner sound like a jet taking off, which was disturbing when it comes on.

The parking lot got full fast so we ended up parking in a neighboring lot which worked out alright. The facility isn’t as nice as some Holiday Inn Express locations though. The bathroom needed some repairs, we heard every single thing our neighbors did (including every time they turned on the sink to wash their hands) and breakfast was… meh. Overall, I think the four stars was probably generous…

Beds are a bit too firm for me. Bedding was nice, pillows good with choice of firm and soft. Staff were friendly and helpful! Rooms clean.

Hotel was good for what we needed but the train was a bit noisy at times. Would probably find somewhere else next time.

The room was aged. Floors were well used. Hotel needs an update on the rooms. Shower water pressure was very low and wasn’t very hot towards the end of the day. Bed and linens were clean.

The check in process took forever and front desk staff was unapologetic. Line out of the lobby for people checking in at 9:00 pm. Booked this hotel through third party Expedia. On our last day, a charge was placed on the card for the full price of the room. Went to the front desk, unable to help because no manager on duty. Said that she would email manager about the charge. At this time no contact or resolve of the charge.

This was the worst experience I have ever had checking into a motel. Arrived a 5.20 was told my room wasn’t ready so I went to dinner came back and told again that my room wasn’t ready. I received my room at 8.25. And the desk clerk was the most rude and terrible person I have dealt with. Even the people around me could not believe what was happening! I will contact the manager and also holiday inn express customer service and will be going direct to hotels.com with my experience.

We requested adjoining rooms when we booked over a month in advance. Was no communication about this not being possible. Arrived to check in to be told they were not available. That's fine cause thr tooms we booked (king tooms) don't usually have two adjoing. Totally get that. Then they put us on different floors. Guess my bad for assuming if you want adjoining rooms that are not avaliable that at least you could gst rooms on the same floor. We were told it is packed tonight and nothing can be done.

It was what it was for a hotel room but the staff was not friendly or helpful.

standing for 2 hrs to check in (had reservation prior) with multiple other people waiting to do same. HOTEL UPPER MANAGEMENT was the issue, (not the nice service ladies at the counter). Very unorganized (overbooked, rooms not cleaned, staff had to physically inspect each room to verify room was ready.) Will not i say again will not stay again

I was staying for my fathers funeral. Check in@3:00. Mangager Hattie told us she would go check on room delay. Never returned. After 90 minutes we left to go get dinner. Came back@6:00. Line of customer's filling the lobby. Two employees at the desk. One man taking photo copies of credit cards to keep on 'file'. And the other holding up a fell phone. Hattie was on a video call somewhere off property wearing a tank top and loudly greeting each customer from the cell phone. She reated everyones first and last name, said the room number out loud. And discussed credit card details so all in the lobby could hear. When we stepped up, my partner asked why we needed to wait three hours in a very calm manner. She told him life happens. At that point I stepped into view and asked (calmly) in a non threatening manner why they were photocopying a credit card. Wothout answering she said to the woman holding up the phone. Cancel the reservation and help the next customer in line. We were in no way threatening or contradictory. She was rude, abrupt, unprofessional and caused us to purchase another hotel at full rate for a last minute booking. I stay in more than 50 hotels a year. Husband has been in management with Hilton, Marriott, Worldmark, etc. My daughter worked as a front desk agent for Hilton, my son in the restaurants. We are fully aware of how to conduct yourself at check-in. This is a low cost budget brand property. Even at that level customer service should have standards.

Couldn’t check in at 3pm, they said it would be around another 30 to 60 minutes and they would call. They never called, finally got checked in at 6pm. No remote for the TV, sent someone up to give us one, he was very unprofessional, swearing about how much he hates his job, etc.

Check in was easy and the front desk lady was friendly

Not sure why Expedia sent me a review for they lost my reservation worth the hotel even though they sent me the reservation 4 days before. Been using Expedia for a long time and this was a surprise. Hotel ended up securing me a room and staff was very helpful. Expedia was trying to find me a new location. I declined. Very disappointed.

Both day and evening staff were awesome! We had one issue with the bathroom fan making a loud squealing noise and they didnt even hisatate to move us (i guess maintenance was gone by the time we called) they were super friendly and just awesome.

The room was clean and bathroom especially clean. The room probably should have been aired out a bit before we came. Breakfast did not have a lot of variety but the breakfast lady was very helpful. Climate control was easy. We'll definately stay again. Great location too.

Close to the hospital

Unable to give an adequate review other than it was convenient location to IHC for medical procedures. Was in pain & distressed for most of stay so difficult to really gauge the other things. Overall, was what was needed & convenience to hospital was ideal.

Easy access from freeway, nice motel with helpful staff

Right off of I15 in Murray. Convenient off and on. Nice area.

The property was convenient as it was located right off the I15. The front desk seemed understaffed and the manager appeared stressed out but the employees were friendly and helpful. The room was spacious, clean, and very comfortable. The continental breakfast needs some optimizing for more food selections and better service. However the coffee was the best I’ve ever had!

I liked the hotel. The room was comfortable and clean. Staff was nice. Breakfast was fresh and good. Only thing I didn’t like at was the location. It’s pretty much too far to walk from anywhere (30 min ) walk to any restaurant. So you have to Uber everywhere which is expensive in salt lake. If it was closer to other places I’d stay again. But if come back to salt lake I will find another place.

Great area to stay in Salt Lake City! Not too far of a drive from all major tourist areas. Clean room and comfy beds!

A very clean hotel. A basic breakfast. No shopping around or transportation.

It was tricky to get to.

No wash cloths empty shower accessories breakfast half hour late opening no coffee,butter,forks,knives,eggs ran out,juice machine malfunctioned got sprayed,walfle machine out of order. Breakfast help must have been absent. Assistant desk manager was clueless filling in. and turned lights on at 7:15, breakfast was scheduled for 6:30. Second day breakfast was a little better but the fancy push button coffee machine is a serious bottle neck! There were 4 or 5 people standing in line for coffee. The coffee machine requires close to 30 seconds to cycle for a single cup! They have two machines. Tuesday neither worked. Wednesday only one worked. Tuesday the assistant manager spent over 20 minutes after she arrived 45 minutes late on the phone trouble shooting the nonworking fancy coffee machine. Wednesday only one machine worked and it quit working due to clogged coffee grounds building up. I observed many very irritated customers seated in the dark. Many had to leave due to their schedules and no breakfast at 7:30. Wednesday the coffee machine quit working at 7:30 many people standing in line frustrated. Several just walked away pissed off. I made several cups and delivered them to disappointed customers just to be nice and change a lousy start to the day. The heated food,eggs,sausage and potatoes were very late being refilled if at all both days. The granola was brought out Tuesday only a quarter full. I observed two angry people at desk with room problems. Very clean how ever

The hotel was close to the freeway, close to restaurants and shopping. Breakfast was good with tons of options. The staff was very helpful.

Most food was gone when we went for breakfast. Sausage gravy, but no biscuits. No eggs, pancake machine was out of order.

Very clean and safe hotel. Best breakfast! Highly recommend!

When we arrived we found only one set of towels and no hot water. Desk suggested we move rooms. At 10 PM that wasn’t an option. Breakfast was bad at beast. Only one type of dry bagel and white bread. By 9 AM no milk for limited cereal. No waffles. Only scrambles eggs and dry potatoes which ran out quickly. Coffee was amazing but only one machine worked and it broke down often. People at breakfast were frustrated. Only one of our room keys worked and then it too quit. Front desk couldn’t get computer to work so they told us to find a maid and get them to let us in. Heard several people say they wouldn’t be back. We won’t either. It’s a shame as we always thought Holiday Inn was above average place to stay.

Great hotel. Very clean, updated, and spacious rooms. The breakfast was disappointing though, not very many options and and on busiers days didn't keep the few things they had stocked. Also no waterbottle fillers in the entire hotel, and the two water fountains they had barely worked.

Property was very clean. Breakfast was not good, but the pancake machine was cool. Parking would be better if they had lit parking all around and more cameras. Overall, great stay.
