Despite being adjacent to a main road, the pub and accommodation were delightfully tranquil. The beverage options at the bar were more than adequate and the dinner was terrific, both the food and the service. Having access to a walking path alongside the River Test and an associated wildlife area was the cherry on top of the cream on top of a most exquisite cake!

Beautifully renovated pub, with near new hotel accommodation added. All done very tastefully & with excellent attention to detail. Mostly, all the staff were fantastic! Special mention to Penny, who always made sure our dog was also enjoying the experience! It truly is dog friendly too, although we really liked the fact that the rooms were spilt between non dog and dog specific. The location is superb too - walking distance into Romsey, partly along the Test River. First time visiting, but will return. Totally recommended!

Exceptionally clean premises with friendly staff in a beautiful location with good parking. Room was well furnished and in good condition. The restaurant produced some very nice meals although it does appear to get very busy so I recommend an early booking. I would not hesitate to recommend this venue to anyone wanting a quality stay in this part of the country.

Had a lovely stay, really quiet room, comfy bed, delicious dinner and breakfast (we’re both vegan and were happy with choices available) and allocated parking. Beautiful river walk accessible from pub grounds. 100% recommend.

Great quiet location. Beautifully designed rooms comfortable king size bed which was great. Lots of parking. Liked the fan in the room incase we were hot too. Good free WiFi. Good choice of breakfast options too.

The only possible complaint would be that we had to wait an hour after we had ordered food before it appeared. The food itself was excellent. Reserved named parking spaces for residents most helpful,. Very welcoming staff.

Great country pub with a modern twist. Friendly staff and helpful. The food was amazing and exceedingly delicious. Stayed over and the bed and pillows were extremely comfortable which made me very happy indeed a great nights sleep. Lovely products in the en-suite.

Absolutely lovely! We enjoyed our two night stay at the Duke on the Test! The room was immaculate! I saw staff cleaning another room and from what I can see, they go above and beyond in how they clean each room! We ate three meals at the pub and the food was delicious. The staff were very helpful. Overall, we had an amazing time and we hope to return again one day!

A lovely place to visit - be it for lunch or dinner or an overnighter. Very friendly and effivient staff who were attentive without being overly so. A fine menu with an array of dishes experly cooked. My room was sldi clean comfortable and well organised.

The Duke on the Test was a lucky find and we were so pleased with it. Pleasing to the eye if you stay overnight you have your own parking bay. The staff were very pleasant and helpful.we were very warmly greeted. Our room was very comfortable and clean.nice and quiet . Beautifully decorated. Breakfast was very nice lots of choice. We would definitely recommend and we would definitely return again.

A really nice property with a buzzy bar and restaurant. The room was exceptional with a super comfy bed and good facilities. Nice that the large parking area was close to the rooms aswell for unloading. My room even had a small outside space with table and chairs. Restaurant menu was really good with some local dishes. Finally would like to say the girls running the restaurant were all very pleasant and attentive. Will be back

Attractive rooms and pub/restaurant. Didn't sleep well. The room was cold and the heating was not on. Staff kept leaving emergency exits open for access or to have a smoke. A lot of noise from the adjoining room.

This would have been an exceptional stay except for one thing and that is ; In the new wing of the property the sound proofing between the our room and the one above was non existent. We were on the ground floor enjoying a peaceful evening until the occupants arrived in the room above. They were not speaking unduly loudly yet we could hear every thing they were saying to each other.

It was overall a pleasant place to stay, but some issues. Firstly it's primarily a restaurant really. So it feels like it's less of a hotel, and like they don't exactly often expect people staying there for very long. Maybe just a night or two. So it doesn't quite feel like they have all the usual things that you'd expect with a hotel. There's no air conditioning. So during the summer, it was almost unbearable in my room. I stayed there for 8 nights, and it was so hot that it was difficult to sleep at night, despite having my window open during the day, and also having a fan. And I said to the management about it, (both during and) after my stay, and whilst they were apologetic, they didn't/weren't exactly doing anything for it to be a better stay for me regarding that. And like no suggestion of any compensation about from the staff or the manager afterwards for example. The staff were otherwise friendly though. The surroundings of the hotel are nice, and the my room was otherwise nice, and the photos are accurate.

Wow what a lovely place to stay and the food is very good aswell. Staff are so friendly and welcoming and service is great. Lots of parking but if i had to say one negative thing it would be the wifi, it was very slow and very hit or miss in areas, but overall what a great place

The best thing about the stay was the welcome and efficiency of the staff. The bed was really comfortable and the room wonderfully quiet. The ambiance was particularly nice because it was Christmas.

We found The Duke to be 5star. Everything was perfect, especially the delightful young staff. Always smiling and very helpful. Decor was very sophisticated and stylish. All the meals were delicious and served on lovely hot plates!!!!!!!!! We will definitely return for another break. Thank you Duke team.

We were looking for a base to tour Hampshire. The Duke was superb. This is the perfect pub, restaurant with rooms. The food was amazing, rooms high quality, all tied together by wonderful service delivered by a brilliant team.

This is a beautiful 16th century pub and rooms. The staff are very friendly and cant do enough for you. Our stay was excellent and we will definitely stay here again. Highly recommended.

I have enjoyed six visits to the Duke on the Test - four for meals and two for stays of several days. The staff have aways been friendly and helpful, the rooms have been excellent and the food awesome. So why have I given one star for service? Just before checking out today, a staff person whom I believe is the manager came in early to service the room. Her first words were "it is very hot in here" and proceeded to criticise me several times for having the radiators, asking me to turn them off then proceeded to turn off the one in the bathroom. We are senior citizens and feel the cold. I pointed out that the heat had only come on at 7:15am. She insisted the heat was on 24 hours. I corrected her and said the radiators in the bathroom and room had come on each day at 7:15am. The day time temperature the day before had been 15 degrees and the room was cold when I had taken my shower each morning. In 50 years of staying in many hotels internationally, I have never felt so humiliated as I felt this morning. Until that moment I would have given to hotel a 5 star for everything. Until I receive an apology I cannot recommend the hotel and will not be visiting again.

Despite being adjacent to a main road, the pub and accommodation were delightfully tranquil. The beverage options at the bar were more than adequate and the dinner was terrific, both the food and the service. Having access to a walking path alongside the River Test and an associated wildlife area was the cherry on top of the cream on top of a most exquisite cake!

Beautifully renovated pub, with near new hotel accommodation added. All done very tastefully & with excellent attention to detail. Mostly, all the staff were fantastic! Special mention to Penny, who always made sure our dog was also enjoying the experience! It truly is dog friendly too, although we really liked the fact that the rooms were spilt between non dog and dog specific. The location is superb too - walking distance into Romsey, partly along the Test River. First time visiting, but will return. Totally recommended!

Well located for Romsey and surrounding area. Clean and comfortable room which also had a patio area which was nice. Large restaurant area with indoor and outdoor options though a shame it didn't open a little later on Sunday.

Great quiet location. Beautifully designed rooms comfortable king size bed which was great. Lots of parking. Liked the fan in the room incase we were hot too. Good free WiFi. Good choice of breakfast options too.

Really lovely place to eat and sleep in a picturesque part of the world. The actual rooms are cordoned off nicely from the pub itself which makes them nice and quiet. The staff were all very nice and accommodating. A huge recommend.

The Duke on the Test was a lucky find and we were so pleased with it. Pleasing to the eye if you stay overnight you have your own parking bay. The staff were very pleasant and helpful.we were very warmly greeted. Our room was very comfortable and clean.nice and quiet . Beautifully decorated. Breakfast was very nice lots of choice. We would definitely recommend and we would definitely return again.

We found The Duke to be 5star. Everything was perfect, especially the delightful young staff. Always smiling and very helpful. Decor was very sophisticated and stylish. All the meals were delicious and served on lovely hot plates!!!!!!!!! We will definitely return for another break. Thank you Duke team.

Overall, generally very good and comfortable stay but the bedroom was a little on the warm side (even with the window open) and the wifi never really worked. Staff were friendly and helpful. Evening food was very good and the staff were very attentive to whether or not guests had any allergies. Breakfast was also good and well cooked but quite limited in there being no self-service continental option - you had to order this as your breakfast option from the menu. All in all, an enjoyable stay in a good location. Would recommend to anyone looking for accommodation in the area.

We weren’t made aware before our stay that the kitchen closes at 4.30 on Sundays and only charcuterie boards are available. It was ok for us but don’t know what vegetarian guests do! Everything else was good about our stay. Comfy clean quiet accommodation and tasty breakfast options.

The only possible complaint would be that we had to wait an hour after we had ordered food before it appeared. The food itself was excellent. Reserved named parking spaces for residents most helpful,. Very welcoming staff.

Great country pub with a modern twist. Friendly staff and helpful. The food was amazing and exceedingly delicious. Stayed over and the bed and pillows were extremely comfortable which made me very happy indeed a great nights sleep. Lovely products in the en-suite.

Property has been recently refurbished so is very clean and rooms are nice. We stayed for a weekend as at a wedding nearby. The only negative is the price of the food. We live in london but were suprised at the prices in the resteraunt, not cheap. The food is fine but is really overpriced.

We had a fantastic stay. One of the most comfortable hotel beds ever. Decent shower. Great breakfast. Lovely staff. Good parking. Perfect location. Only improvements really would be a better TV and lighting in the bathroom and perhaps faster WiFi but these are minor. We will definitely stay again.
