Property is excellent. Snorkeling directly from the beach in both paid access (turtle viewing) and free areas. Service was fantastic at all times. Food was very good overall, with Italian and the Steakhouse as standout options. Jungle areas in center of the resort make navigation around the resort a memorable experience, easy to get lost and explore new places! It’s sort of a running joke amongst guests that everyone seems to be lost while navigating the resort. Main lobby bar is the only letdown at this property. Seating at the bar top was limited to four stools, however several other seating options were available in the area. Due to bar being open to outside and lack of fans or A/C in the bar it was very hot most nights. Bar staff had resorted to using floor drying fans to cool themselves and one of the fans being used was extremely noisy taking away from the high end feel of the rest of this resort. We instead chose to spend or evenings at the outdoor sports bar were ceiling fans and a cross breeze kept everyone cool while enjoying their after hours cocktails. Special call out to Brandom from the entertainment group and Alan from the bar team both were fantastic and made the trip memorable

Beautiful property, top notch service and nice rooms. All of the food options were delicious. The French restaurant was our favorite. The beach had some seaweed but they work all day cleaning it up. You could either go to fun activities at the first pool or relax at the quieter pools. Highly recommended!

Pro : Beautiful resort, clean and well mantained, great choice of entertainment, good choice of restaurants, decent buffet. Con: lack of beach chairs, even being a preffered club we would wake up before sunset to get a spot, they also told us we can't leave chairs unattended for more than 20 minutes, definitely expected more from the high end resort

The spa was absolutely incredible. The grounds of this hotel is gorgeous! However, the staff at the pool needs to be more clear into how many people are allowed to rent the day beds beforehand. There is evidently a difference in how they treat certain guests, versus others. There is no distinction between the regular guests and the preferred ones.

We were mesmerized with this hotel. The spa was just a a dream, appreciating and connecting with nature was amazing. Our concierge was just great. Our romantic dinner was a dream!!! Food was great. Area around the hotel with so many activities. We had an amazing time!!

An overall excellent stay. The grounds were beautiful and the room was well appointed. We were in preferred club but I’m not sure what this really gave us other than a room we could go to to get food and drink any time of the day. The section of beach for preferred club was full by 9 am everyday. Some negatives: the gym was small and very very full in am. The check in process took too long and I really did not want to be sold a membership just after arriving at the facility. It was hard to figure out all the activities going on and by the time we figured it out, our vacation was almost over. The buffets were not good and we regret doing the holiday ones instead of the restaurants. The restaurant meals were excellent by the way. Finally the staff were very friendly and accommodating.

The property is very lush and well maintained. Room was spotless, fridge stocked with your preference. Nightly turn down service with fresh towels. Lots of umbrellas available for when it rained. Building concierge was great, always checking on you. Lots of entertainment during the day and evenings. Great selection of restaurants and all were excellent. The main buffet was open for breakfast and lunch and the selection was overwhelming. Waiters and staff are very attentive and always checking that you are satisfied and have what you need. They go above and beyond. Every area was serviced well. Always wanting to know how they could help you. We thoroughly enjoyed every minute of our stay.

Great service! All the employees were very pleasant and made sure we felt at home. Big thanks to our concierge Sophia… very helpful. The beach was excellent and always clean, rooms were kept and refreshed everyday impeccably. Would recommend the Preferred Club it’s an excellent value add on, they had great snacks and made us feel extra special. Love this place, looking forward to coming back!

OUTSTANDING!! I do not have anything negative to say about Secrets Akumal. The staff was AMAZING! I have never felt so pampered. Every bit of the resort was clean & beautiful. I felt that every single employee went out of their way to make our stay perfect. My daughter and son-in-law got married during our stay. It was perfect! Everything they had both dreamed & hoped for.

My husband and I went for our honeymoon and had a blast. We loved the resort and did not want to leave. The property was clean and the staff was welcoming and friendly. Only 2 minor complaints: swim out pool needed to be cleaned/skimmed more often & the staff knocked on our room door too much.

Best overall all inclusive we have ever been too. And we have been to a LOT over the last 10 years. We only do adults only. Huge pro: best food hands down and impressive presentation. Property is stunning. Quiet pool is pure heaven and plays spa music all day. Coffee shop is 24 hours. Service is impeccable. CONs: every hotel has one. This is a con I’ve never put down before though. Mosquitoes were brutal. Worst I’ve ever encountered. They blamed the season but I’ve been here every ten years in fall and never had this. We were bit morning noon and night. Almost enough to not return. Also - the beach is not as gorgeous as I was led to believe by so many photos. Because of the turtles there are hundreds and hundreds is bright yellow or white buoys in all directions. There are many boats shored up To the immediate left of hotel. The sand part of beach is very narrow and crowded. The water is crystal clear and sand is soft in front of hotel but more Rocky to the right side. Looked nothing like the photos. People are strategically taking them. We didn’t swim for turtles because of this. SO many groups with orange bobbing life jackets to left of hotel. We felt bad for the turtles. Otherwise. Pure paradise!!!

The hotel grounds are like a tropical jungle with walkways winding around it. The food selection and quality was the best of any all inclusive I've stayed at. The many buildings throughout the resort were stunning. The spa was amazing. The staff was absolutely the best! We can't wait to come back!!

Secrets Akumal was an extraordinary experience that exceeded my expectations in many ways. The food was delicious, the pools were pristine, and the entire hotel, including our room, public bathrooms, and everything in between, was remarkably clean. Secrets Akumal truly pays attention to every detail. The beach, unfortunately, was not great due to seaweed, but this was not the hotel’s fault. They did everything possible to clear it. But the most impressive aspect of the resort was its service team. Jonas, Max, Ara, and the rest of the entertainment team were all incredibly friendly and fun. The wait staff was also excellent. Diego from Market Cafe, Raul from Portofino, Santiago from Beach Service, and many more, all provided great service and attentiveness. Our room was always clean and stocked with everything thanks to Silvia and our concierge, Leidy. I highly recommend trying this resort out. You won’t regret it.

Just got back from secrets Akumal. The resort itself was a bit outdated but the service was very good, everyone was very friendly and the food was good as well. We stayed at one of the best suites they had to offer. The romance master suite ocean front. The snorkeling that everyone raves about right off the beach was okay at best. The Akumal dive center is right next door and I noticed that brought TONS of tourists including families that flocked to Secrets Akumals beach which was definitely very frustrating after booking an adults only resort for a reason, to not be around kids screaming and yelling. The soliciting on the beach was also EXTREMELY annoying. We saw this one guy on the beach and my wife and I were being nice by holding a 5 minute conversation and he proceeded everyday to hound us on the beach when we were relaxing about going to a cenote or taking us to snorkel with the turtles. Not to mention we wanted to enjoy the beach without having numerous people come up to us and walking by us trying to sell us scarfs, dresses, hats etc. Which we did by the way and paid $80. it was so insanely uncomfortably crowded and the water was so murky from everyone kicking up the Sand. Could barely even snorkel anywhere because it was so packed. Besides those few things it was a nice resort but safe to say we will not be returning.

We stayed in a romance suite oceanfront in building one. It was an amazing room with a lot of extra touches. The location was stunning, the service perfection and the food was wonderful. Shout outs to Alejandro, Jesus, Antonio and our concierge Metz. I also highly recommend the spa having done a massage with Perla and the hydrotherapy with Oscar. We will return and can’t wait to hear welcome home when we do!

PROS: Property is beautiful, nice location, clean beach, dining options are great (wish the buffet option was available in the evening) and the staff is amazing. CONS: Room furniture, bedding, pillows and resort furniture had staining. Dead bugs in towels. “Plunge Pool” in the room had signs of deterioration, water valve wouldn’t shut water completely, mildewing. The “preferred club” option is Not worth it, gives access to the “preferred “ beach section and lounge, which we did not use, the $200 credits are very restricted and can only be used for spa service ($40 max), wine ($10) or applied to a private romantic dinner (approx dinner cost $395 and only $40 coupon can be used). We were supposed to receive a bottle of preferred alcohol to our room upon arrival, the bottle Never arrived. There were some room issues, missing remote, missing robes, some spotty cleaning , but overall ok. With the “preferred “ rate you have the option to also dine at the seaside grill for breakfast al a carte as well as the buffet. The wait for the dinner restaurants was always on average 45-60 mins, with the exception of 1 night at the steakhouse. Also, did Not like being hassled or pressured into attending presentation(s) with the dangling of free resort credits or free future night stay(s). We found it extremely rude to waste/demand hours of time in a sales pitch after hours of traveling upon entering the hotel during our vacation. We had a good time & would consider returning.
PROS: Property is beautiful, nice location, clean beach, dining options are great (wish the buffet option was available in the evening) and the staff is amazing. CONS: Room furniture, bedding, pillows and resort furniture had staining. Dead bugs in towels. “Plunge Pool” in the room had signs of deterioration, water valve wouldn’t shut water completely, mildewing. The “preferred club” option is Not worth it, gives access to the “preferred “ beach section and lounge, which we did not use, the $200 credits are very restricted and can only be used for spa service ($40 max), wine ($10) or applied to a private romantic dinner (approx dinner cost $395 and only $40 coupon can be used). We were supposed to receive a bottle of preferred alcohol to our room upon arrival, the bottle Never arrived. There were some room issues, missing remote, missing robes, some spotty cleaning , but overall ok. With the “preferred “ rate you have the option to also dine at the seaside grill for breakfast al a carte as well as the buffet. The wait for the dinner restaurants was always on average 45-60 mins, with the exception of 1 night at the steakhouse. Also, did Not like being hassled or pressured into attending presentation(s) with the dangling of free resort credits or free future night stay(s). We found it extremely rude to waste/demand hours of time in a sales pitch after hours of traveling upon entering the hotel during our vacation. We had a good time & would consider returning.

My husband and I just returned from a 5 night stay at Secrets Akumel. This is a beautiful property and I would absolutely recommend it. The grounds were beautiful. The size of the resort was perfect. Not too big and not too small. Easily walkable to the pools and beach. We found the food to be better than average for an all inclusive. I’m not a fan of buffets. Too many hands touching utensils etc, and unfortunately the buffet was the only option for breakfast unless you upgraded to the preferred club. We talked to a few people who thought the upgrade was worth it and some who didn’t. That being said, the food at the buffet was good. A large variety and made to order omelets. The other restaurants were also very good. You only needed reservations for the hibachi, which I thought was great. We could show up whenever we felt like it and we waited maybe 15 minutes tops. The service at the resort was excellent. From the bellhops to the servers and bartenders, everyone was friendly and helpful. Our room was nice enough, they brought us extra pillows when requested and extra water and beer. I found the bed too hard and the bathroom could use a remodel, but overall not bad. When we first checked in they tried to get us to agree to a breakfast meeting with the promise of some free stuff, massages etc. They claim it’s not a time share presentation but we found out from talking to others they are trying to sell a membership program. The staff makes secrets! MAKES IS AMAZING. They are astounding. Top shelf, highest quality humans. They are beyond compassionate and caring and welcoming. The most professional. Santiago Santos, section 2 of the lobby bar, literally made our whole stay. He was the best part of Secrets, wont lie. My husband and I came to see him almost everyday. He is the most professional, curteous and kind human being. A very special person. Secrets is lucky to have him and EVERY employee they have. Every employee was AMAZING!!!!!!!! So amazing im still in shock at how incredible i was treated staying at secrets. The resort is very nice and extremly high end. The only complaint i have is, lord its loud in the morning at night and during all night. Ppl walk by the room, you can hear every word. They were laughing yelling at times. You can hear the nighbors everytime they flush the toilet or take a shower. I did not expect such a noisy room to ever be in such a resort. Especially for the price. We will be coming back, i have to take my daughter, but besides secrets, sound proof rooms will be somethong i will be looking for. At least a fan, to cut the noise. Service was exceptional. Beach was clean and plenty of cabanas. Plenty of food options if you eat meat, not so much for dinner if you’re vegetarian. Staff looks after all your needs. A great phone app lets you request things from room service, to housekeeping, to turn down service. Very impressed.

We celebrated our anniversary and my 40th birthday at Secrets Akumal in June, and it was absolutely amazing. The resort itself is stunning, but what truly set it apart was the staff. Every single person we interacted with was incredibly attentive, thoughtful, and went above and beyond to make our stay special. Especially our concierge! Secrets Akumal staff go way above and beyond to meet your every need. I’ve never felt so cared for and taken care of in my life! The hospitality they provide go beyond any expectation. I was never hungry! My concierge checked in with me regularly. She even would give me a menu of what was going on on the property daily. Just outstanding service. If you got lost, a staff member, any staff member, would walk you to your destination. It was a gorgeous resort. Swim up bar and swim up pool to our room was amazing! Food was top tier! Can’t wait to stay again!

I want to thank Jose our concerige. The room service team member were great too. Personally I paid for perrfered club, but once we stepped foot into the preferred lobby i felt outcasted and treated poorly. This was suppose to be my birthday and anniversary celebration, but i clearly was not acknowledged, i was not treated properly. Ignored from check in to check out the restaurants celebrate other people even though we asked as well, i was not in the perffered buildings. Those buildings were labeled. Also on the beach when i went into the preferred side i was greeted again with discrimination . Please treat people right.

I’m sitting here at my desk on a Tuesday morning drinking my burnt coffee dreaming of Secrets. I miss it so much already and it’s only been 3 days since we left. Secrets is outstanding. If you are looking for a luxury all inclusive this is the place. For example my fiancé was in the pool and one of the kind gentleman waiters asked if he could clean his sunglasses for him. That moment stood out as a true sign of how much they go over and above to make you feel welcome and comfortable and like you are truly on vacation barely having to lift a finger. The resort is big and easy to get lost but when you do get lost there is beauty and nature around every corner. We snorkeled with the turtles and swam in the ocean where they worked tirelessly to get rid of the seaweed. The food is top notch , the breakfast buffet is what dreams are made of. I could go on and on. Just book the trip I promise you won’t regret it. Special shout out to our concierge Fernando for taking such good care of us

Great attention to details, friendly staff, high standards in all restaurants. Difficult time with front desk because they didn’t want to keep the same rate, original purchase with Expedia. So, for my extra night I have to purchased with Expedia again. Front desk didn’t help at all. The girl from the front desk offered expensive rates for the same room for the extra night and we have to move to other room. Later on, went I return the key, they keep us on the same room.

A truly amazing experience in customer service. The staff is there to make your experience truly memorable, in an already beautiful resort. An amazing hotel. As an example of the service, our concierge Jose, called us on his day off to ensure our shuttle service was booked and if we needed anything else prior to our departure. In another example, we took a bike tour with Jazmine. Who at the biginning of the tour asked everyone in the tour to introduce themselves. For the remainder of our stay, anytime we crossed paths walking thru the resort, she would greet us by name and inquire how were were doing or if we needed anything. This resort is over 400rooms. That is a lot of different faces to remember or see. The property is in a prime location if you like snorkeling. We simply walked off the beach and snorkeled in the public area (not the turtle reserve area) and saw turtles everyday, with rays, boxfish, anglefish and several other species of marine animals. There is only a buffet option for breakfast and lunch. For dinner, there are 6 a la carte restaurants. They are all first come first serve. At no point during our stay, did we have to wait for a table. The food was really good, as was the experience.

Some of the cons are not a fault of theirs: Mosquitos were very bad- I mean the worst i’ve ever experienced. They were trying to mitigate them, and had bug spray at the restaurants, but we still bought and went through a whole bottle. Because of the mosquitos it was hard to enjoy the swim up room. Only used it once since the mosquitos were biting my face, scalp, etc. Air conditioning did not work well at night in our first room, we thought it could be from the brief power outages, but it got to 75 degrees at times yet stayed cold during the day. A day or so after mentioning it to the concerige they moved us and we did not have the problem in the new room. Food was great and fresh everywhere we went. If I was scoring food and friendliness of staff alone it would be 5 stars. I have food allergies and Santiago at the buffet went above and beyond to get me a pastry I had been wanting. They called us by name and always checked on us. The buffet food was the best I have had, and the restaurants were top notch. Upselling was draining. People were telling us they tried to sell them on packages, which is understandable. But it was a 1-3 hour sales pitch for a discounted spa massage. I also felt swarmed as we left when a sales woman tried to convince us to book our next stay. I’ve stayed at other resorts where they were not as bothersome about it. Parking worked out. We had a rental car but the trees dripped sap or something. So it was dirty.

Just got back from secrets Akumal. The resort itself was a bit outdated but the service was very good, everyone was very friendly and the food was good as well. We stayed at one of the best suites they had to offer. The romance master suite ocean front. The snorkeling that everyone raves about right off the beach was okay at best. The Akumal dive center is right next door and I noticed that brought TONS of tourists including families that flocked to Secrets Akumals beach which was definitely very frustrating after booking an adults only resort for a reason, to not be around kids screaming and yelling. The soliciting on the beach was also EXTREMELY annoying. We saw this one guy on the beach and my wife and I were being nice by holding a 5 minute conversation and he proceeded everyday to hound us on the beach when we were relaxing about going to a cenote or taking us to snorkel with the turtles. Not to mention we wanted to enjoy the beach without having numerous people come up to us and walking by us trying to sell us scarfs, dresses, hats etc. Which we did by the way and paid $80. it was so insanely uncomfortably crowded and the water was so murky from everyone kicking up the Sand. Could barely even snorkel anywhere because it was so packed. Besides those few things it was a nice resort but safe to say we will not be returning.

A jungle like setting with lots of large trees and plants. Gardens are immaculately kept. Service by all workers is exceptional, very friendly amd gracious. They will help you anyway they can. Sincerely helpful, everyone is well taken care of no matter the catégorie of room. The food was very good, same with drinks and nice choice of non alcoholic drinks. Pools are very clean, ocean nice but bring water shoes due to some surprise to y coral and green bottoms which are perfect for seeing sea turtles and fish. Great snorkeling at the national park just next door.

Property is excellent. Snorkeling directly from the beach in both paid access (turtle viewing) and free areas. Service was fantastic at all times. Food was very good overall, with Italian and the Steakhouse as standout options. Jungle areas in center of the resort make navigation around the resort a memorable experience, easy to get lost and explore new places! It’s sort of a running joke amongst guests that everyone seems to be lost while navigating the resort. Main lobby bar is the only letdown at this property. Seating at the bar top was limited to four stools, however several other seating options were available in the area. Due to bar being open to outside and lack of fans or A/C in the bar it was very hot most nights. Bar staff had resorted to using floor drying fans to cool themselves and one of the fans being used was extremely noisy taking away from the high end feel of the rest of this resort. We instead chose to spend or evenings at the outdoor sports bar were ceiling fans and a cross breeze kept everyone cool while enjoying their after hours cocktails. Special call out to Brandom from the entertainment group and Alan from the bar team both were fantastic and made the trip memorable

Bar staff had resorted to using floor drying fans to cool themselves and one of the fans being used was extremely noisy taking away from the high end feel of the rest of this resort. We instead chose to spend or evenings at the outdoor sports bar were ceiling fans and a cross breeze kept everyone cool while enjoying their after hours cocktails. Special call out to Brandom from the entertainment group and Alan from the bar team both were fantastic and made the trip memorable

A truly amazing experience in customer service. The staff is there to make your experience truly memorable, in an already beautiful resort. An amazing hotel. As an example of the service, our concierge Jose, called us on his day off to ensure our shuttle service was booked and if we needed anything else prior to our departure. In another example, we took a bike tour with Jazmine. Who at the biginning of the tour asked everyone in the tour to introduce themselves. For the remainder of our stay, anytime we crossed paths walking thru the resort, she would greet us by name and inquire how were were doing or if we needed anything. This resort is over 400rooms. That is a lot of different faces to remember or see. The property is in a prime location if you like snorkeling. We simply walked off the beach and snorkeled in the public area (not the turtle reserve area) and saw turtles everyday, with rays, boxfish, anglefish and several other species of marine animals. There is only a buffet option for breakfast and lunch. For dinner, there are 6 a la carte restaurants. They are all first come first serve. At no point during our stay, did we have to wait for a table. The food was really good, as was the experience.

The property is gorgeous, and all the staff were super friendly, attentive, helpful, and incredibly hard-working, and they made our stay all the more enjoyable. The in-room dining service, and the variety of restaurants around the property was good. I would have to say that the Mexican food was the best compared to the other food offerings in the property. We also love the pizza! The pizza station with the forno oven close to the pool, and the Preferred Members Beach area was excellent. We took advantage of the unlimited food, and drinks, and overall we had a great time. The beach area has a lot of seaweed that the property cleans up on a daily basis. We spent a little bit of time swimming in the ocean, but I got some sort of allergic reaction to the seaweed on my leg, and I decided not to swim in the ocean after that. Other than that the property, the views, the staff, the food and drinks were all excellent!

Comfortable resort with tropical feel. Food could be improved, but was plentiful. Loud music by the pool was at times bothersome. Otherwise we enjoyed our stay and the beautiful water and tropical fish. Service was excellent and staff very friendly.

Property is excellent. Snorkeling directly from the beach in both paid access (turtle viewing) and free areas. Service was fantastic at all times. Food was very good overall, with Italian and the Steakhouse as standout options. Jungle areas in center of the resort make navigation around the resort a memorable experience, easy to get lost and explore new places! It’s sort of a running joke amongst guests that everyone seems to be lost while navigating the resort. Main lobby bar is the only letdown at this property. Seating at the bar top was limited to four stools, however several other seating options were available in the area. The resort is beautiful and the beach is amazing! The food is somewhat lacking for such a high end resort. Limited menu options for breakfast, lunch and dinner. and the buffets hardly change. Beach is worth it. Food not so much

Secrets Akumal was our first AI and did not disappoint. From arrival to departure and nearly everything in between, it was a great experience. All of the staff were extremely friendly and helpful with the exception of a poor experience in the spa with an individual staff member. They did try and schedule a timeshare sales pitch upon arrival, but I politely declined and they weren't pushy. Gina our concierge was amazing. She went above and beyond to make our trip special and accommodate our needs. Even getting me a wireless cellphone charger when mine broke. The food was better than expected and we ate a lot. Pretty much every day has events with buffets on top of the restaurants. The only reservations we needed were for Hibachi. The fresh made Pizza was honestly our favorite. So delicious. We spent a lot of time at the main pool with the swim up bar. It's a nice temp and good depth for just hanging out. Plus they have different activities every few hours. Entertainment was good, but it gets a bit redundant after a few days. Musical acts by the lobby bar were good. Now the bad. It's Sargassum season so the beaches and water are nasty and stink like sewage. They cleaned the beaches constantly, but they were fighting a losing battle. The water does clear up about 20 feet out and we were able to snorkel, but you're swimming in Sargassum. Vendors constantly try to sell items and turtle snorkeling on the beach. All in all it was great.

Secrets was clean, staff were very helpful and friendly, the pools were beautiful and there was always entertainment happening. The quiet pool was calm and relaxing if you wanted a more serene setting. The food was great and we never had to wait long at the restaurants. And if you are looking for a a late night the DJ in the lounge was so much fun! Great place for couples to relax and reconnect.
