A lovely hotel, and we chose this for a 3 day stay because of previous experience with Barcelo hotels. However, the rooftop area, including the pool, was over-crowded. In our 3 days there we were never able to use the sun beds. There's a sign saying that reserving the beds was not allowed, but the guests do so anyway and the staff does not intervene. Guests would get there early and use their towels and belongings to hold the sun beds, so that half of them were often unoccupied but not available. The hotel really needs to implement some sort of booking or time slots for use of rooftop area. Next time in Funchal we'll look for another place to stay.

Bra plassering, gangavstand til det meste i Old town men samtidig rolig og trygt område. Hyggelige personale i resepsjonen. Veldig rent. Godt lydisolert. Veldig fint basseng på toppen av hotellet. De har også et gym med tredemølle, spinningsykkel, manualer fra 1-10kg og et bra kabelstativ. Litt lite, men man fikk en grei overkroppsøkt der. Rommet vi hadde var greit. Ingen utsikt fra vinduet (4. og «øverste» etasje). Sengen knirket, dette fikk vi heldigvis fikset på dag 3 uten problem, fikset mens vi var ute og spiste middag, noe som vi satte stor pris på! God madrass, bra aircondition og fint interiør. Frokosten vil jeg gi en terningkast 4+. Litt lite, men både varme og kalde retter tilbys, og ulike kaffe og brød. De har en egen eggstasjon der de steker omelett og stekt egg for deg! Det er et stort pluss. Alt i alt er vi fornøyd med oppholdet og valget av hotell, og kan anbefale det videre

Definitely a nice hotel with a lot of amenities offered. Location is right outside the seaside and walkable to the CR7 museum and the cable car. The only reason why I gave 1-star short of full star is that the parking is actually at the hotel of close to the hotel. There are 3 parking solutions given 1) close to the cable car station 2) parking at the Plaza Forum and 3) street parking. The only one that is “close” to the hotel is street parking and given you are in the city it’s actually quite hard to navigate and get to the street parking. The other indoor parking facilities is not 24/7. Some days it actually closes and also a bit of a walk away from the hotel so if you have luggage or other items that can’t be rolled on wheels it may take a few steps to get from parking to hotel. Otherwise it’s a good hotel, very posh. But I definitely wouldn’t say “parking is available” at this hotel because it’s 1) far away and 2) not 24/7 accessible.

The location is perfect. You can easily walk to the marina, cable cars, shopping and dining. The room was great and the bed and pillows were exceptional. Breakfast is fine and coffee is a self service machine which was disappointing. The closest parking is a garage that is about a 7-10 minute walk. Street parking is impossible.

Perfect location! Close to all things Funchal. The rooftop pool was great and had a fantastic view. The restaurant is fine but better choices can be found off site. The breakfast is excellent though. Loved our room. Comfortable bed and strong shower. Quiet and clean.

We stayed only for 1 night but really great location to walk around Funchal. Rooms are large for Europe and quite comfortable. Minifridge and welcome chocolates quite nice. The only thing I would note is that there are very few chairs in the rooftop bar/pool area so almost impossible to find a spot. Breakfast is delicious and plentiful. Would stay here again for sure.

Great location in centre of Funchal. Rooftop pool and bar very nice. The only negative is if you have a car you have to park it in a parking lot about 7minute walk away at a shopping centre. It was fine but some may not like that option. Otherwise a very nice hotel.

I stayed at Barcelo for 4 nights with my friend in a junior suite. The room/bathroom was nice and clean upon arrival and the room was a good size for two people. Breakfast was included and it was great. It included lots of fresh fruit, fresh made omelettes with all the standard accompaniments and a nice assortment of pastries as well fresh juices, coffee and tea. Staff was very friendly and polite upon check-in and throughout the stay. The location was great as it was walking distance from many of the restaurants we went to and very close to the main road along the waterfront. My only complaint is the housekeeping. Upon arrival there were no pool towels in our room. There were multiple days where there were dirty dishes left in the room and we were not given clean drinking glasses. Also there were multiple days where they did not top up the bottled water.

El hotel está bien en líneas generales. Moderno y cómodo, con un buen desayuno y una ubicación inmejorable en el centro histórico de Funchal. Mejoraría la limpieza de las habitaciones (es escasa) y el ruido de nuestra habitación en la cuarta planta del hotel, dado que la música de la azotea es molesta.
El hotel está bien en líneas generales. Moderno y cómodo, con un buen desayuno y una ubicación inmejorable en el centro histórico de Funchal. Best thing was that the hotel is really central but still quiet (at least in our room). Two issues though: first, there is no parking nearby. We were told to leave the car temporarily on the road leading up to the hotel for check-in/check-out. However, we almost got a ticket (or towed) by the police!!! There is parking in walking distance but with the luggage a pain to go due to the streets surface in the center. Secondly, the rooms were not cleaned as one would expect in a five star hotel. Breakfast is great but would be nice to have signs on the items with the allergens on them.

Partiamo dai punti positivi: Posizione strategica, direi la migliore in FUNCHAL. In pieno centro con locali ovunque. La struttura è bella e la camera era silenziosissima e confortevole. Il letto comodissimo. Punti negativi: frigobar con pochissima scelta, temperatura ambiente, per cui le bibite erano calde. Inoltre non lo rifornivano se consumavi. Biancheria del letto macchiata, asciugamani bucati e per 2 volte siamo rientrati alle 15.00 e la camera non era fatta. Per essere un 5 stelle il servizio è decisamente scadente. Peccato perchè la posizione merita.

Great stay right downtown. This hotel did a great job acknowledging a special stay and making us feel welcome. Location could not be better for walking to most anything downtown, rooms and products nice, and breakfast was exceptional. Cons- parking is so confusing. They have no parking at hotel or really nearby with no directions before checking in to get to parking garages. Closest was 10 minute walk in mall parking garage. Hotel is surrounded by one ways and blocked off streets that make it even harder. Also rooms on the backside (away from water) have zero views. Looking right into a gross building covered in pigeon poop. The alley below start moving and shaking at about 6:30am and can be heard very loud in room, even on 3rd floor.

What kills this hotel is WiFi barely works no doorman or help with luggage , minor but lame they don’t take Amex which is fine but you can reserve the room with Amex ???? Is this an international brand? Also when attempting to charge a drink at the pool on the Terrace I was told I can’t charge it to the room unless the front desk gives permission ? And the took a 200€ hold when I checked in …. Lame point 3 = Fail nice place but these are basic amenities at €350 a night ….

Just back from 4 nights in this wonderful hotel. It is located right in the heart of Old Town Funchal, a block from the Cathedral, two blocks from the waterfront and near several great restaurants. Even though the hotel is in the middle of a pedestrian area, our room was very quiet. We had a junior suite and it was excellent value, with a large room, spacious walk-in shower, fluffy towels and bathroom amenities. Our rate included a full breakfast buffet, cooked-to-order eggs and pancakes. Staff was extremely helpful and courteous. There is also a nice restaurant for lunch and dinner with indoor and outdoor seating and a rooftop bar. I would definitely stay again at this property.

We stayed only for 1 night but really great location to walk around Funchal. Rooms are large for Europe and quite comfortable. Minifridge and welcome chocolates quite nice. We only stayed here on night but it was very nice. Great view and location. The one thing we weren’t used to was when we left the room the air conditioner went off and when you return you must remember to turn it back on, we forgot a few times and the room would get warm fast! We never stayed in a room that wouldn’t allow the a/c to stay on.

Im grundegenommen hat uns alles gut gefallen besonders der Pool auf dem Dach des Hotels. Uns hat es aber nicht gefallen das in dem großzügigen Zimmer zu wenig Platz und Ablagemöglichkeiten für die Kleidung vorhanden war. Das Zweite Mangel war aus unser sicht der Frühstücksraum, dieser war viel zu klein, unpersönlich es fehlt in diesem Raum einfach der Charme.

We loved our stay at Barceló. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. The pool was a great place to spend a couple hours in the afternoon. The only thing that could have made our stay better would be to have parking closer but the walk wasn’t bad at all. Great breakfast too!

Nice Hotel, lovely rooms , friendly reception staff and breakfast staff good breakfast , great location . Lovely Rooftop pool but was let down by a young man running it that clearly needs training on the service and approach you expect of a 5 star hotel . As an example I ordered a drink and his first response was how are you paying for that , Lovely! . Just made us feel like an inconvenience in general the couple of days we visited and didn’t treat anybody any differently. I would also suggest they try a put a bit of vibrancy the hotel , no background music by the pool and the bar was literally empty every night. Both these experiences would put us off staying again

We were pleased to have our room available for early check in (1 pm) as it was a rainy day. Check-in was fast, friendly and efficient. Breakfast choices were excellent although the buffet room often became crowded. Breakfast staff were efficient in removing plates, cleaning tables. We had appetizers and wine at the Noz Restaurant and the hummus and olive tapenade was excellent. Check-out early in the morning (4:30 am) was efficient and helpful. Amenities over New Years were excellent. The location is Old Town Funchal is near to many activities and sights.

Nytt och fräscht hotell mitt i staden med topp frukost. Detta hade varit en 5/5 om inte det hade legat bredvid en nattklubb. Vi hade rum 429 och gissar att även 329 och 229 är lika drabbade av ljudnivån. Eftersom discot i grann fastigheten stänger klockan 04:00 så var det omöjligt att sova innan dess eftersom ljudet och basen gick igenom väggarna. fick avboka våran vandring dagen efter, eftersom vi var för trötta för att göra detta men 2 timmars sömn. Vi påtalade detta dagen efter och fick ett nytt rum även om det var mindre än det som var bokat och betalt för utan något problem. Detta ljud problem verkade vara något de visste om i receptionen. I denna pris klass och boende borde man inte chansa att gäster ska finna sig i detta eftersom det förstör helheten och semestern.

The location is perfect. You can easily walk to the marina, cable cars, shopping and dining. The room was great and the bed and pillows were exceptional. Breakfast is fine and coffee is a self service machine which was disappointing. The closest parking is a garage that is about a 7-10 minute walk. Street parking is impossible.

Super convenient and picturesque spot right in the heart of old town Funchal and within walking distance of marina, shops, restaurants and cable car. Lovely rooftop with views over town and marina with bar and small (heated) pool. Breakfast great but eating area not so charming - might have been better using restaurant at front of hotel for more space and light. We stayed in deluxe room city view at front of hotel and were pleasantly surprised by small balcony with sea views - the only downside of this was live music outside noisy if you wanted an early night !!! Overall very glad we stayed here rather than in built up soulless tourist area on other side of marina.

Property had a good location right in the centre of the old town surrounded by bars and restaurants. This however means some noise on an evening especially from an adjacent club which was annoying. The hotel is new and well maintained but lacking luxury that you would expect at a five star, for example minimum toiletries (you have to ask via app) and average bed. Breakfast was good and included egg station, hot and cold dishes however was busy and due to being serve yourself coffee sometimes you queued a long time for the coffee machine Comfortable stay for a few nights but for me a good 4 star quality not true 5*. Location excellent and staff were very helpful when I contacted them in advance when I asked for help

Staff were lovely, rooftop cocktails were made perfectly and the king-size bed was dreamy. Exactly what you'd want and we'd consider it good value for money. Noz cafe (restaurant) downstairs served some fantastic food, and live music.
