What a wonderful view from our room of the sunrise. Dog friendly that was nice. There is no restaurant at site even advertisement said there was however Carla had a great list of resturants near by. On recommenday would be to have one dog friendly room with a railing near the 3 steps We appreciated the grab bars near the front door.

Room was small but very clean, no ice was available, no dining. enjoyed the fantastic very and lovely conversation with the owner.

I would recommend Carla’s place to anyone traveling through the area. Carla her self checked my friend and i in late in the evening. She stayed to make sure our tv worked and told us some cool places near by to check out. The room was perfect for two people just needing a place to stay. Beautiful sunrise view, nice patio to enjoy coffee. Horse shoe and cornhole games in the yard. Refrigerator, coffee, and even a microwave. What really stood out and what would bring us back, is how accommodating Carla was. We woke up to a flat tire in the morning and with it being on a weekend, no place around was able to help. Carla was understanding and told us to stay as long as we needed past check out untill we could get help to get us back on the road safely!

Spectacular view offering a peaceful & tranquil view from the comfort of your room! This is the most charming place with extremely friendly owners who can't do enough for their guests. The down to earth atmosphere gives a sense of home away from home and if you're receptive to making friends, simply walk outside enjoy conversing with other travelers on the deck or around a fire. Nice location albeit away from town but great view, lots of outdoor seating and small room thoughtfully filled to address all needs.

It's a small motor lodge and feels like a small motor lodge, but it's comfortable, has a great view, and is a worthwhile stop for weary travelers.

Place was older, but bed was comfortable and place was clean. There was an odor by the door, not sure if place is on a slab, as maybe have been a dead animal. That was the worst of it.

This motel was unkept and in bad need of repair. There was a tree laying on the back of the building with a 4x4 proping up the over hang. Our room smelled of wet dog. The room was dirty with hair stuck to the camper size (no joke on the size) bathroom wall, no bathroom door only a curtain. The bathroom window (inside of shower) didn't close completely. The toiltet was approximately 3 feet from the edge of the bed.The floor around the edges of the room needed vacuuming. Cob webs on the ceiling. Upholstered furniture was broken and filthy. We would have stayed elsewhere if another was available within our budget and in the Keeweenaw.

This is your typical "mom & pop" motel of the 50s and 60s. The cute picture is misleading, because it is so old and dated. The room is extremely small. We had to put our suitcase on one of the comfy chairs, because there was no place else and no luggage rack. The bathroom was so small and it was impossible to use the only outlet in there. We stayed 2 nights. When we returned from our travels on the second day, we discovered that the trash had been taken out (though they did not bother to put new bags in the cans.) They left a new coffee packet, but hadn't cleaned out the coffee pot. New towels were left, but we had to go ask for toilet paper. And asking for anything can be problematic because the host/owner is not on site. If you just need a quick place to sleep and leave, this would work, I guess, but we were hoping for much more.

I had a very nice, clean room and it was ready when I arrived. The property is a bit dated but I like the improvements the owners are making. The view of the lake is amazing, and the owners were really nice!!

Carla was super nice and accommodating of our delayed check in, and even provided a map of local foods with recommendations! The room was super clean, comfortable, and had an amazing view of Lake Superior right outside our door. 10/10 would stay again.

I do not usually leave reviews but we stayed here last year and it was a nice place to stay so when we got the chance to go to Keweenaw area again I booked it for this year. It is a older hotel as you can see in the pictures but Carla is super nice and helpful. It is a family business and you can contact Carla if you need anything. The rooms are clean and nice inside and has everything you need. It is a nice quiet pretty setting with the water right across the road. I would definitely recommend staying there, we will when we are in the area again.

Old fashioned motel

Noisy due to proximity of highway, no working Wifi, a/c not working and room very stuffy.

The rooms were cleaned. The shower was missing the shower head. The wifi did not work for us, but password was provided. There is no front desk, our key & info was provided in an envelope on a bulletin board. The restaurant burned down a year ago, you have to go into town for food.

The room was hot and window AC was okay. Unsafe and uneven floor. Pretty view. It is "1960's" motel style.

Beautiful scenery around the hotel, but not much else within walking distance. Carla was very friendly and helpful in finding local restaurants. The room was ok with a 1980's hotel feel. The only significant downside was that that internet and wifi transmitters were terrible, it would only stay connected for about 3 minutes before kicking me off ,and during that time the Internet speed was equivalent to dial up, making it unusable.

We arrived late but there was no one to greet us. Key was attached to a board outside. The television worked horribly with only a few stations available. The room was clean but nothing special. The bed was comfortable.

It worked but it is very dated and worn down property. Self check in. Wi-Fi only near the window.

The place was old. Pockets doors on the bathroom. Bathroom sink is tilted and toilet is loose on the floor. Mattresses sag in the middle. Tv placed above small table tilted downward…watch your head getting up! Ouch, more than once we bumped our heads and back room has a definite dip!

Old, slanted floor, old chairs with no support from the 1950’s. Rooms were extremely small. Bathroom window was chained open for ventilation in the bathtub/shower. No electric plugs in bathroom. Extremely small mirror in bathroom. Not at all worthy of the $170 charge.

Incredibly amazing once again! I have been traveling for a few months all over the US. As a southern girl the last place I'd expect to land is the Upper Peninsula, and I'm so glad I did! Because of the beautiful story about Carla & Dougs start, 45 years ago, (ask them it's an inspiring story! ) their extremely kind heats, willingness to assist me with everything & offering insightful advice; I fell in love with them & Baraga! This is my second trip with them inside of a month, I've officially begun making arrangements to call this future winter wonderland home. All it took was sincere acts of kindness to make this once foreign place feel like home. This place is representative of their story, their life and the community. It's special, charming, cozy & warm. Its NOT like those ridiculously overpriced outfits and I personally am glad! I've never slept better than right here. It's welcoming inviting and a long standing piece of history over looking the beautiful bay! Stepping back in time here at Carlas Lakeshore Motel has been magical & appreciated. I admire them both and will absolutely see them again! Thank you Carla and Doug for continuing to be so kind, for remaining in business for 45 years growing more and succeeding! Thank you for your absolutely perfect mom & pop motel! You both changed my future in a positive way. This world needs more people like you both. :-)

Felt very safe. No one there at check in but communication was very clear. Well lite outside.

Very convenient… maybe there would be little problem but you can see Carla works hard to run a nice experience… I booked very late but get the hotel and check in instructions and get in easily upon arrival after 11pm… thanks you Carla I will call you later when I have time

Every day one of the owners checked with us and offered their direct cell phone numbers in case of any concerns. I have serious bad issues and we slept very comfortably in the queen bed. No frills but a fantastic value. We definitely will go again. Beautiful view on Lake Superior.

A very tourist-friendly motel – we booked the place online, and an envelope with our name was pinned to the information board, with the room key inside :) In the morning, a breathtaking sunrise. We saw it through the window, but… we stepped outside and were left speechless. The photo was taken right outside the door.

Carla was very pleasant and the overnight was great for just 1 person. Too tight if my wife had been with me. It needs more TLC and general upkeep. I congratulate the owners for keeping it going, though in a tough economy. The next-door restaurant was closed, and none were right nearby. The view facing east across the bay was gorgeous and the price was good.

I understand that the motel has suffered from a fire in the past year, but the location was kind of desolate and it was the end of the season and I was the only customer staying at the motel. It really felt a little bit like a set up for a slasher movie. :-) The room was clean and it overall it was acceptable, but it really is dated to the 1960's or there about. The room was also pretty small, but it had two comfortable club chairs which is a huge plus in my opinion. The highway noise was a little bothersome but not much.

Carla was nice and worked with us through some issues, though the facility had a lot to be desired. There is no longer a restaurant and it’s a lot more outdated (at least what’s leftover from the fire) than expected. Not a bad place, though it was not what we were expecting.

I did not check out the area when I was booking the place. When I arrived, I did not see an office to go into. I saw a sign that said to call the manager. I asked how I could get in. She had an envelope with my last name pinned to a bulletin board. I was surprised because I saw two other envelopes with names on them. I thought that would not be secure at all. If you are worried about security, I would not recommend this place. I asked if there was any place to eat around here. She spoke about a hotel restaurant, a Casino restaurant, and a pizzeria that was six miles away. There was also gas station food. The place only offered a room with a refrigerator and a small microwave. The bathroom was clean, but I was surprised to see a sign that said, " Please hold the handle until the toilet flushes completely! THANKS. I have never had this sign at any hotel or motel before. They had a plastic packet for the shampoo and conditioner together. It did not tear easily and required me to cut it with scissors or bite it open. I ended up biting it open. They also provided a miniature soap about 1.25", .75", and .25". It seemed very small, but it worked. The shower was a step-in shower that was about 30" square. They do not have a bathtub if you are interested in that. I was looking for the thermostat, and when I saw it, it only seemed to set up to heat. Because we are up north, I knew at night it would cool down outside. The screen window was open and a box fan.

Great motel. Carla herself checked us in. Had a restaurant next door that burned part of the lobby, but still a great traditional motel.
