It was a lovely breakfast. We had English Breakfast, a fruit salad and a yoghurt. Plenty to choose from.

Very good beds, good shower and friendly staff. The ventilation was not ideal in our room (room 6), resulting in a bit stuffy air. Breakfast was good (full English and continental buffet but no cheese) but it is served across the Street at the County Hotel, so it takes a bit longer.

Breakfast at the sister hotel was good. Our room at the coach and horses was clean and the fob key access was a good security feature.

On arrival the hotel was closed, a person answered the door and informed us the public areas of the hotel was closed. She said some people had been informed but we had received no information. Her primary concern was for us to make the payment. Then she told us if there was no staff in we should go across the road to the County Hotel. Somewhat reluctantly she helped us with a case and showed us the room. The room was cold and the heating hadn’t been switched on. We asked her help but she was unsure of how to rectify it. In the toilet the towel rack was cold. When we came back at night we had to open the locked front door. The place was mostly in the dark and empty Next day we discovered that the extractor fan in the windowless bathroom did not work, the cleaner admired it was out of order and wouldn’t be repaired for several days. However she moved us to another room which was an improvement. The chain fell off the.blind when we tried to close it. We had to go to theCounty Hotel each morning for breakfast. On the morning of our departure one of the managers enquired about our stay. She said there were two staff members with a dog living in premises in the Coach and Horses hotel but we didn’t see them. No attempt was made to contact us. The place in the evening was deserted and we did not feel safe. Overall it was a very stressful experience especially as I am à recovering cancer patient. We think we should receive a refund of at least 15% of £501. J&A Maguire
