Super 8 by Wyndham Oceanside Downtown

The service received varied with who was at the front desk. When we checked in, the guy on duty gave us two defective keys, then acted as though we were to blame, and took two new keys up personally to demonstrate their use. Further, the ice machine takes quarters, but the sign on it says one can request quarters at the front desk. When I did, he said, one was all I needed. When I asked another day and a woman was on duty she was very friendly and asked how many quarters I wanted.

When I checked in, I asked to extend my stay one more night. The clerk agreed and said it was easier on his end to start a "new" reservation for the one night instead of changing the Expedia reservation. He also agreed to give us the "member" pricing which was $90/night, which I paid at that time. On the original day we would have checked out (but extended) I get a call from the hotel saying our luggage was still in the room and wondered why we didn\'t check out. They then proceeded to tell me that they found the other reservation but the clerk made a mistake and it was for the wrong day, so the PRICE WAS GOING TO BE DOUBLE WHAT HE ALREADY CHARGED ME. They did end up figuring out what the clerk did wrong, and gave me a small price break but I still had to pay more. The ice machine was broken as well, although they were very accommodating to get bagged ice for us. Overall the property was clean and quiet.

Price was reasonable... Parking was tight.

The location was by far it's best selling point, as it was only a couple minutes walk to the beach and or the downtown area.The morning breakfast was just some fruit, packaged muffins and coffee. The bathrooms were clean. My bathroom came with a tub or shower combo, but the plug for the tub didn't fit, making showering your only option. The rooms lacked any kind of closet. One of the nights there was something of a ruckus outside, but otherwise it was pretty quiet. Felt pretty safe overall. The counter staff did there best to help and were friendly. The maids were fantastic in there cleaning and helping with whatever might be needed. I would book this place again. Good value for the price.

The photos actually match what you'll see in person. The room was spacious, the bathroom was waaaaaay nicer than I had expected. Parking lot wasn't the best. If you have big vehicle (large SUV, truck, etc) it might be a tight fit for you. Plenty of restaurants within walking distance. You're about 3 blocks away from the beach! This is my new go to motel when I'm traveling on a budget. I won't hold chipped paint, or a crack in a floor against them. I felt pretty safe overall while staying here. And the bed was mad comfy, which was a pleasant surprise. The shower doesn't take forever to get hot; excellent water pressure. Grade: B will stay here again.

The beds are the best comfort. The only issue is parking. Very limited space to park.

budget price and it was clean, fairly quiet for the location. no problems except parking is tight. older building but again that is expected for the price and it was fine for what we needed . budget friendly and close to everything

Property lacks basic amenities! Had an iron, but no ironing board. No tissue anywhere. No bar soap as an alternative to shower gel. Lotion choice stinks. Frig in the room was long overdue for freezer defrost. Mattress needs to be replaced. It's been used on one side far more than the other side. Ice machine was out of order & there was no apology or sense of urgency to get it repaired. No pool or hot tub on property. Lobby smelled like curry. No unusual for Indian owners. The breakfast offering was worth the time to put it out. They should just do coffee only. Lack of communication between housekeeping staff & the front desk!! I paid extra for an early check in. 30 minutes after I was in the room, housekeeping was pounding on my door & asking if I was checking out!! I'll stop here. Needless to say, I won't be staying here in the future. Property is not recommended for seasoned travelers like myself...

Breakfast was subpar. Limited choices. Parking was very tight.

Room was not cleaned and got bed bug bites all over my legs.

Pros: The staff was wonderful, helpful and kind. The price was better than the hotels that are right beside it anyways. The 2 king beds were comfortable and the rooms were very large. The AC and fan worked well and helped drown out some of the noise from the roads. Cons: The room was very dirty. Don’t take off your shoes until you’re ready to tuck into bed as you’ll end up with black socks. The floors, walls and counters are all in need of a deep clean. There is a strong cleaning smell when entering the room, but we weren’t sure what was cleaned with it. Busy traffic noise on both sides of the building, though the back of the hotel was better than the front.

Entire room smelled strong like a rest stop urinal (Urine) the room was visibly clean but terrible smell Windows had only a shutter thing as covering and one of the slats was broken so window offered no privacy and limited light filter. The ice machine was outdoors and required a quarter in the coin slot. To be fair , the staff was very friendly. I reserved for 3 nights but checked out after one night and got something very closeby for a few dollars more which was vastly nicer than this hotel.

Unfortunately we found a couple of roaches during our stay

The property was centrally located. The bed was big, and not uncomfortable. It was fairly claen and livable. The one issue was that the barhroom floor made it impossible to shut the bathroom door. It would not move at all. Also, a large cockroach made its way in from under the door.

Location is excellent, but our room had a smell almost like a pee smell or something. Floors looked like they needed to be swept and moped.

Very quiet, nice T.V, this is probably the cleanest I’ve ever been to. Newly remodeled. The staff was very friendly. There was a $50 dollar charge for incidentals due to me paying through hotels.com which was returned to my account on the day of check out. Which is very nice.

Everything was real nice especially the rooms, I've never seen a hotel room that clean and I've worked in hospitality 15 years. Newly renovated, bathroom was real nice

Towels and bed sheets had stains. The hotel is located in a noisy area, between cars and motor cycles revving through out the night, it’s directly next to the freeway off ramp so you get all that noise

Newly remodeled but interior could use better cleaning like wiping of walls, shutters, tables, floors. Floors need a steamer mop to them to officially clean them after each guest as flooring material gathers dirt and leaves feet dirty even after mopping, I even bought my own cleaning supplies and mop and still wasn’t sufficiently cleaned. Otherwise staff is wonderful, beautifully decorated, shutters were a great addition. Be prepared to hear doors opening and closing all night. I had to leave the tv on to drown out the noise in order to sleep. Parking lot is one way so gets tricky trying to pull in and maneuver around lot off busy street. Parking is tight and limited.

The room was very spacious and the staff was very nice. However the walls have no insulation. You can hear every step the upstairs customers make. It sounded like elephants running around upstairs. You can also hear the alarm clocks from the rooms next door and the people speaking on their phones outside our door. The beds were extremely hard and you can feel every spring in the pull out bed making it impossible to sleep on. There is no water pressure and every time the upstairs room flushing the toilet it causes our toilet to bubble up. In addition there was a large spider in the bathroom that scared my son.

It's located pretty close to the beach and it was important to us. The room was clean and everything was in good condition. The only issue was - we couldn't make the TV work.

Spacious

We stayed in the room with 2 king beds...it was clean and spacious...only thing the we didnt like was that the room walls are very thin...you can hear the ppl talking and their tv from the room adjacent to ours.. but overall it was a good stay.

There was also no dresser or closet so all of our stuff just ended up in the floor against the wall instead of tucked nicely away. The “grab and go” breakfast was literally twinkies and ho-hos with some bananas. Not my idea of breakfast.

Room and bed was clean. The bathroom looked remodeled and was spotless. I could walk to restaurants and the market from the hotel. Manager was very helpful and I was able to get in a room a little early.

The staff is always quite amicable , I like to be left alone and they give me my space...

The hotel has a good location, which made getting around convenient. However, the check-in process was extremely frustrating. When we arrived, there was a handwritten note at the front desk that simply said “restroom break”, and no staff in sight. After waiting about 10 minutes, another staff member came by and informed us that the front desk attendant was away and we’d just have to wait. After an even longer wait, that same employee finally tried to check us in, but seemed unsure of the process and struggled with the system. To make matters worse, I was unexpectedly charged an additional $50, which was never clearly explained. The bed mattress was not very comfortable, which made sleeping a bit difficult. That said, for the price and location, it’s a decent option for a short overnight stay. Just be prepared for some bumps in the process.

The front desk and other staff was always helpful and friendly. Even at 3am. Love it!! Coffee all day. Knowledgable about the area!! Very considerate of my needs.. Even after check in.. This place is now my FIRST GO TOO!! THANKS FOR EVERYTHING

Wife and I stayed with our late teen to preteen boys. Manager Jay was nice and accommodating. Room was updated and clean, a clean room is the most important to me. My family and I don't spend a lot of time in the room, but a clean room and bed are important. I don't think housekeeping swept and mopped the floor during our stay so our floor got some sand from beach trips. Breakfast was simple grab and go, coffee, fruit, and a small danish. Parking is tight in some areas, but manageable. Getting in and out of the hotel can be tricky as it sits by a busy intersection. If you are smart you can figure out how to get in and out easily. Being by the busy intersection comes with some noise, especially on the weekend. The road noise seemed to quiet down a lot overnight. If you are a light sleeper and early to bed this could be an issue. You could take a longer walk to the beach, but we found an lot with $2 daily parking that has easy access to the beach. We could also hear our neighboring rooms if they were a little loud. Thankfully our neighbors quieted down before too late. Overall I would stay here again.

They do not understand the words do not disturb the sign on the door that says do not disturb that means you do not go in that room unless invited I work 15 hours a day to pay for that room and have somebody without no good reason at all just walking to the room and start taking pictures of everything makes me highly uncomfortable don't get me wrong I understand they want their room to be clean but when you're working all the time also trying to take care of your family it makes it kind of hard to keep the rooms spotless at all times. Personally I don't know if I ever want to go back to this hotel don't get me wrong the employees are friendly and kind and all that good stuff I really hope you guys at the super 8 understand them people have jobs they have responsibilities and some of us are homeless so we struggle to pay for your hotel you need to understand this okay and the bare minimum is this just give us our privacy if we want as long as the room is clean when we are checking out don't give your customers a hard time I am not angry I'm a little frustrated yes I do wish all of you well God bless you guys I hope you guys can do better for your future guests

Friendly, courteous staff. Excellent shower water quality, pressure and temp. No other rooms were loud. Some traffic, but expected. Will likely stay again

To close to the main street, noisy from the motorcycles and cars racing on the street

The hotel is close to the entry on the freeway…. Lots of motorcycle and very noisy .

Room was very clean. Staff was very nice. No such thing as ocean view which our room supposedly had. Breakfast is just a tiny wrapped muffin and an apple and/or banana. Walls are thin. It was adequate for our needs, though, and conveniently located to walk to beach (about 10 minutes). Probably not the safest area (we witnessed a fair amount of crime nearby) but you get what you pay for.

For a motel, this place was great. Great value for a budget minded person. Clean, friendly staff, comfortable bed. They even upgraded my relatives room so that we could be next to each other. There were some issues though that I feel would not have occurred if I had just paid the premium price for a proper hotel. 1. The room reeked of cleaning solution when I got in. I left the fan on while I went out to explore and it was gone by the time I got back. 2. My relatives, who were in another room, had a sink that was clogged. The motel staff fixed the issue while we were gone though. 3. Area is super sketchy. Some motel rooms are out in the front which feel a bit safer. Some are on the back side of the motel, connecting to a dead-end and a really dark area with no security gate/fence. We arrived close to midnight and there were strangers smoking in front of our room. Felt very uncomfortable. Next morning, some strange man who was staying in another room kept knocking on my relatives door and running away. He would just wander the property. Did not feel safe, and the thought of our car being left out there made us uneasy. 4. Comfort was questionable. We got back at midnight and we were exhausted. However, it was hard to rest when we could hear an upstairs unit watching south park full blast volume. The blinds in the room are not that effective when you have a row of flood lights outside. The refrigerator unit kept making extremely loud noises, like a machine.

Staff is very friendly and the room was spacious and clean. The biggest knock on this property is its location, being nestled in between a major road and highway. The location made the ambient noise quite obnoxious.

Good location, 15 minte walk yo the peir, plenty of food choices around. The most cost effective hotel around the area.

I like the fact that your within walking distance to downtown oceansides bar/clubs and pretty close to the oceanside peir as well. But also just far enough that its quite, and the rooms are clean, and DONT smell like cigarette smoke. If your there on business and its a weekday its a really good price if you go through expedia or hotels.com i spent all together $86 Wednesday, stated anothernight and spent $91. I was amazed at what i got for the price. In that area they could easily charge over a hundred but they dont. So yeah ill be back for sure hopefully for pleasure next time.

Pleasantly surprised at how modern and comfy this motel was. Literally walking distance to Surfrider Beach and plenty of food options also in walking distance. Will stay here again.

Super 8 in oceanside is definitely a good find. Rates are always doable even on busy days and you can gurantee your going to get a clean room with a clean bed, and clean linen. Downside parking areas are small and so hopefully you dont have a full sized truck. As far as the area its self, honestly its a mixture of homless, working class, and young adualts. Its super close to the beach, and some night life action going on. But it could use more eateries. Anyways i give this place and the surrounding area a cool 4 stars.

Nicely renovated facility close to everything in Oceanside. Only negative is the free breakfast was 2 bite muffins, coffee and bananas. No other fruit or beverage Hardly worth listing is the ad.

I was there for one night to attend a conference at a larger resort. The hotel was good for a few days, unless you need something fancy. It was much nicer than I expected from a Super 8. Comfortable and clean. But plan on having breakfast someplace else, unless you can get full on apples, bananas, and overly sweet pastries. I would stay there again.

The hotel is run well and the cost is low and attractive. The contintental breakfast is very light but the coffee is hot and tasty. Four blocks from the beach with easy walking.
