We had a very pleasant and comfortable stay at the B&B in Derby. Great staff, great breakfast, nice gym and very comfortable beds! Will return!

This hotel is being refurbished until June 2025. My room was so noisy during the day and it was bad enough that I left a day early. I went to the reception desk to ask for another room in the hope I’d get something quieter and was told it was pretty much the same throughout the hotel. They asked a manager to come and check to see if there was a room he thought wouldn’t be affected, but the manager couldn’t be bothered to join us. I’ve always enjoyed staying here and have been a regular customer for years. I’ve always been happy here, but I wouldn’t consider going back until the refurbishment is complete.

It was OK, definitely a 3-star hotel In my opinion it really doesn’t need a lot more investment to bring it up from 3 stars to 4 stars, I think they can achieve it if they want to Services are good though. Nice bar, gym and sauna are alright

I have stayed here for ~6 times during business travel. Breakfast is good, with different options. Hotel needs a general overall deep cleaning (hall carpets are dirty, room carpets stained, walls with scuff marks). For the cost, which I think is high for Derby, they need to direct some funds back to hotel appearance. Staff helpful, but their computer system is very slow and tedious.

There’s a difference between mood lighting and living in a state of purgatory. When staying at a hotel, I expect it to be warm and inviting. Unfortunately, the reception, which doubles as part of the bar, is extremely dim—perhaps intentionally so, to distract from the state of the hotel. To add to the ambience, there’s background music, which seems to be part of the overall theme. The lifts are almost entirely dark, with barely any light at all. I would not recommend this hotel for anyone with visual impairments. The first room I was given had broken tiles and missing grout. While it may be a wet room, this is dangerous and a potential breeding ground for foot infections. The second room, although free from broken tiles, also had missing grout, and the tiles felt loose underfoot. Additionally, the curtain had been torn off its rail, and despite staying for two nights, there was no housekeeping service. The bin wasn’t emptied, the bed wasn’t made, and the refreshments weren’t replenished. The only part of my stay that I actually enjoyed was the bar food and the bar staff.

I did not realise you have to pay to park at this hotel, the rooms heating did not work (a cold night) the window even though it was closed let a lot of noise & wind through it. The carpet was horrible cover in stains. Pillows were too hard for me so ended up with a stiff neck (I only used 1) Shower was okay Great breakfast staff were fine but the hotel needs to be refurbished (at least new carpets)

Large wedding party. Room really too warm which made for super uncomfortable despite weather only being 21'c Bathroom was in terrible condition with most of the floor grouting missing and sharp areas catching our feet. Drains slow to clear on shower and sink. Hairdryer kept overheating and cutting out. The wedding partyhad been advised the bar open 24 hrs as per website but after the wedding when we got back to hotel it was closed as staffing had not been planned in. Breakfast was lukewarm and we were forever awaiting something that had run out.

Two night stay, that will do for me. Can't see I will return unless desperate. Extra parking change to be aware of which I wasn't! Room fairly decent, TV reception terrible,.what else to do of an evening away... Watch TV not as easy as it sounds. No hand soap in room. No room cleaning or service on this two night stay. Shower dripping which I believe then made the bathroom smell damp and mouldy, not the nicest of smells, bit like drains. Dark entrance, poor service, not enough staff, some busy times, leaving customers waiting. Waited to be seated for a long time, just left standing around. Ordered main first night, no one came back to ask if ok, or if i wanted anymore, so I left. The menu is poor, and there are limited options. I couldn't do a long visit here as food would become boring quickly. This hotel is trying to be hip and cool, like in the 80's aimed at trendy yuppies. People trying to be cool, not sure it works. It's like a club environment down stairs, low lights and bar. Got my bill receipt wrong compared to what I actually paid, used the receipt from hotels.com. Not for me, wouldn't recommend, wouldn't rush back, only if I was desperate. Some people inconsiderate loud at night when others are trying to sleep. Breakfast is mediocre, warm at best. Wasn't feeling it at all myself.

The staff were so helpful and kind and let us book in early because we were going to Download Festival. Each evening they would leave cleaning stuff out for us to us before going into the hotel covered in mud. Friendly and kind would use them again any time.

Paid for a penta plus room. Tv wasn’t working nor was the air conditioning , rang reception and they said they couldn’t do anything asked if i could then switch rooms and they said no. Then in the morning we woke up late but it was around 12:05 a cleaner came into the room without knocking while my partner was in the shower and then rang us asking when we was checking out.

Staff super helpful when air con didn’t work, moved me to another room straight away. All good except breakfast, chef didn’t want fry eggs & only provided scrambled. Food wasn’t replenished & people had to keep asking when items ran out. Needs someone on top of this to watch for items running low & replenish. I ate there in an evening & service was good and food really enjoyable.

Amazing stay at Penta Hotel, and will definitely be back again. The staff were extremely friendly, and went out of their way to ensure we have a comfortable, relaxing stay. Nothing was too much for the team. The hotel is clean and comfortable, the bar was well stocked, and the food was tasty.

Hotel was very good good location clean and tidy most of the staff were fantastic ,However it only takes one member of staff to dissappoint , When i went to check out in the morning i asked for a reciept as it was a business trip which the guy seemed to have an issue with while waiting another 2 people came in he was huffing and puffing clearly getting flustered when he gave me the reciept it was thrown at me so he could deal with the next customer very rude !!!!! stayed in room 418

The receptionist was very grumpy on our arrival and anything i asked was met with a negative attitude, so much so my college commented on this to me that he got the same feeling. We have a corporate account with the hotel, yet when i asked things about this, again i got a negative attitude and felt as thou i shouldn't ask. When i got to my room - i felt the look of the bed and bedding was cheap and uninviting, and it felt as it looked. Also i appreciate the restaurant / bar area is being changed, but the whole place look so uninviting and during breakfast my table was sticky and both my cutlery and napkin was sticking to the surface. it looked clean but it clearly wasnt clean

Close to the train station which was good, but arriving late on a Saturday evening alone, I didn't feel massively safe walking from the station to the hotel on my own as there were a considerable number of intoxicated people getting off the train at Derby as well.
