The Selwyn, Richmond

An excellent place to stay in Richmond. I would have given it five stars, except for one small problem. You can take the elevator, but there are still four or five stairs to which you have to carry up your luggage. They have a very nice front patio where you can sit out and have a glass of wine, etc. we did not have the optional breakfast. Very close to other attractions in Richmond we stayed here because we wanted to go to Kew Gardens. Several public transportation options nearby

The hotel has a very high standard of decor and service. Staff are very professional and attentive. Location couldnt be better as only a 10 minuite walk to the heart of Richmond. My room, 403 , is on the small side with a very small bathroom. You need to be we organised with your belongings. Being at the front of the property on a busy road it was well insulated and hardly heard the traffic, which was a plus. Pre booking a parking space is a must but it states "free parking" on advertising but its not ! £20 per day. Overall our stay was pleasurable and we would inquire for a larger room next time. We would definitely recommend this boutique hotel

Really nice hotel, clean, the location is fantastic! The customer service is outstanding, lovely breakfast and coffe machine in the room 😍. Things to improve but not a reason for not staying in this hotel again. 1. The (cheapest) room is very small for 2 people, we'll pay the little extra for the extra space next time. 2. The parking have an additional cost even though the actual parking lot is in the property. (Cheaper than NCPC!)

The property is very nicely looked anfter and finished to a very high spec. The staff were very professional and friendly. The hotel is perfectly situated in Richmond and is close to everything. The only downside was to discover that it costs £20 per night to park the car! However the cost of the hotel was reasonable so not a disaster. I would definitely recommend this hotel and hope to return soon.

Parking spaces were a bit tight and over priced Breakfast needed more options.

Oor stay at the hotel was enjoyable. Although a cooked breakfast was extra in cost the help yourself buffet breakfast was free. However, this isnt advertised and we only found out by accident. We made use of this as we only wanted coffee/toast/pastries/cereal at breakfast. We found this Hotel very convenient to use as a base. It has a reasonably priced car park which we found useful.

Fantastic decor and customer service. Car park is limited and some spaces very small. We booked “a Selwyn” room which is said to be bigger but is still a very small room with no safe. Breakfast was fantastic with wide choice of good quality ingredients.

Third time staying at the hotel £10.00 early check-in is a joke, and charged for two days parking, this is my third stay at this hotel in less than twelve months has muddy my views on staying here again.

Staying there was a dream come true for my wife. Everything was very clean, the breakfast was spectacular and elegant, the facilities were spotless and the place felt very safe. Highly recommended!

Spotless room, super clean bathroom.

The room wasn't clean. There was pubes in the shower door The sink wasn't cleaned The floor ripped my sock. The coffee machine only had 2/4 coffee pods. The staff on entrance were really friendly.

The Selwyn is quite a remarkable boutique hotel in Richmond (Greater London). I found it roomy and very clean. My room had a fancy coffee machine with complimentary biscotti. Many other ‘luxury’ features too numerous to list in a short review. It’s fairly close to the Richmond tube station and just a short walk to the High Street, with abundant pubs, restaurants and grocery shopping.

Beautiful reception area , friendly staff and delicious breakfast. The hotel was very clean ,rooms nicely decorated and cozy. Nice bathroom.

Overall a very nice place with a good breakfast, first impressions were great however there was dirty mugs and dust all over our room

Reviews are over rated - our room was tiny - blind broken - funiture scratched and damaged. Housekeeping did not make the room up and left dirty cups in bathroom sink. The placed seemed empty with ony one member of staff around.

Great experience other than the bath wasn't the cleanest (hairs in the bath).

The hotel is very pretty, quaint and immaculately presented and in a great location for exploring Richmond. The staff members were very friendly. But the rooms were tiny. We stayed in a Classic room and i just cannot imagine how there could possibly be a smaller room (Compact) listed withing their hotel. We had to kneel on the bed to open the wardrobe door (the hanging rail went from front to back, so it was really awkward to put things in or take things out) as there was only just enough space for the door to open and it touched the side of the bed. A tiny ‘dressing table’ that most of the space was taken up with the tablet to contact reception that didnt work. The pillows were not comfortable, nor was the mattress but understand that can be personal preference. The tea and coffee making facilities- you couldnt get to them as they were attached to the wardrobe right by the side of the bed, but the tiny bedside table was there.(my husband has a medical machine that took up the little space there was on the bedside table) No space to put the cups when making the tea so had to carry them to the tiny dressing table. And the tea bags weren’t replenished anyway. We just felt really claustrophobic and stuffy all weekend and the air con only stays on for a couple of hours no matter what setting, so i was up through the night time and again putting it back on. We knew we hadnt booked the biggest room there but have not stayed in a room that small for many years. Such a shame

The rooms where smaller than expected and the airplane noise was constant from 4:30am til 12:00 midnight. If your a light sleeper choose elsewhere.

Very nice hotel in Richmond...close to train station and the main street in Richmond with many shops and restaurants. The hotel was nice enough to hold our bags since we arrived early but charges $10 euros an hour to check in before 3pm when the room is ready so we just sat in the lobby until 3pm. Rooms are TINY! The cabin literally has no room for more than one open suitcase. Our 2nd room was slightly bigger but again no room to leave suitcases open. The bathrooms are updated but tiny. A/C was great since it was very warm when we were there.

Small room. Decent location. Noisy early morning with laundry carts being rolled around on concrete outside the room waking me up at 6am - not ideal

The Selwyn is a very well specced hotel, the staff are friendly and helpful and the rooms are finished and equipped to a high standard. Just be aware the small rooms are just that, quite small. Overall we had a very enjoyable stay.

The building is clearly refurbished as new and spotlessly clean Rooms are a little small but beautifully fitted out and delightfully warm and cosy

Friendly staff. A central location that is easily walkable from the train/tube station. Our room was clean, modern and quiet.

Have stayed a few times before but never in a cabin room. Like a shoe cupboard, no room to move. Great location and parking but wouldn’t stay again.

The hotel and staff are outstanding. Expedia itself not so much. We needed to make a trivial change in our booking, and it tied Expedia into knots. I contacted the hotel directly and they sorted it. We've booked to return soon, but directly with the hotel, and not via Expedia. Lesson learned, will not use Expedia again.

We loved our stay here! Lovely room and property. Very walkable into Richmond. The staff were excellent as well! We got into London very early well before check in and they were able to get us in our room early no issues. Extremely welcoming and friendly. Will absolutely stay again if we’re ever back in the area!

Lovely small hotel, I’ve visited 3 times in about 4 months. Always a nice, comfy, quiet room that is great for a good night’s sleep. Terrific location in Richmond and above all, a wonderful and caring staff.

Exemplary service, charming night porter, nothing was too much trouble.

All the staff were attentive, friendly and helpful. It makes such a difference to the overall enjoyment of a stay.

Very good hotel let down by small details and very curt female reception staff who’s welcome made us feel like we were not worthy to stay here. First impressions stick and those first two mins are very important to set the tone of a stay. A smile goes a long way. However that said after a shaky start the Selwyn recovered and we were treated impeccably. Comfy beds, clean and fantastic bathroom. (Although a walk in shower would have made it 5 star - bath so tiny what is the point!)

The hotel was really nice but the service level was poor. They failed to refresh our room and said it was down to a staff shortage. There was no communication other than when we asked at the reception desk. It was a shame as the hotel and breakfast was good and we would use it again regardless.

Upon checking in, we were greeted and assisted by Luigi, who was very personable, friendly and eager to make our stay a great one! Some of our luggage was a bit unorganized due to traveling to various locations across England and Wales for the week. Without us even asking, Luigi jumped right in to help. He was also able to secure on-site parking, which initially did not seem possible due to our need for early access to our car the next morning for our flight home. The room was clean and probably the quietest, given the number of floors and rooms. Lobby and dining areas were also impeccably clean and tastefully decorated. The check out process was just as pleasant with Alejandro and Ilaria. Alejandro assisted with our now organized luggage and Illaria graciously offered us coffee to takeaway for our drive to the airport, though breakfast was not being served at the time of our early departure. The accommodations and staff made our last day in the UK a pleasant and memorable one. Highly recommend and would definitely stay again.

I had to wait 20 minutes to check in when finally someone turned up. They took a ‘deposit’ on my credit card and have still not refunded it, 2 weeks after my stay. I would avoid this hotel and certainly won’t be returning.

It's a nice hotel, great location with a quality finish. However, it is very noisy both from road noise and other guests having loud conversations in the lobby and hallways. It is only the noise that lets it down, everything else is great.

The hotel is conveniently located in walking distance from downtown Richmond and a short drive from Kew Gardens, Syon House and other historic attractions. The service was good and the room comfortable.

Great location for exploring Richmond and retracing Ted Lasso’s footsteps! Cute hotel with very comfortable accommodations, and the warm and friendly staff made us feel welcome. Lovely part of London and well worth a visit!

This is a very cool hotel in a great neighborhood filled with pubs, shops, restaurants and gardens. The hotel is on a bus line and a short walk from Richmond Station, allowing access to all of London.

A very good independent hotel. Stylish lobby and main areas. Very good room. All recently renovated very well. Good value. Close to the station and river.

The room was nice with heated floor in the bathroom. Breakfast was amazing. The friendly staff was just amazing. Location was close to the train/tube station.

Super cute boutique hotel within easy tube ride to Kew Gardens and car ride to Hampton Court Palace. Close walk down to the Thames and the Green. Lots of restaurants, pubs and shopping too. Wonderful breakfast that came with the room rate. Friendly staff as well!

The hotel is very beautiful! The Christmas lights outside looked cozy and we really looked forward to visit the hotel. The room was a little bit small, but it was okay. We were not happy about the double duvets. Siblings don't like to share a duvet and their parents either. We asked for 2 more duvets. We got one extra. It was okay, but it would be nice to have one each. We had paid breakfast forward, but when we came down the first morning there was no breakfast. The chef was sick they told us. That whats happen. But we had to pay over 70 pounds to have breakfast in another restaurant. Luckily they told us that we would get our money back for the missing breakfast. Very beautiful place, but I guess we were a little bit unlucky this time...

Fabulous! Welcoming staff and a very comfortable room. Great location! Loved the gluten free croissants.

Great value for money. It looks grand from the outside. The reception area is classy with a cool 1920s kind of feel. The bedroom was small, but that didn't bother us. The breakfast was first class. I think you'd struggle to find anything this quality for the price in Richmond. Worth paying the extra £20 for overnight parking.

The room was smallish with little storage space, but well decorated. The bathroom was also in excellent condition. Reception was efficient and friendly. Breakfast was sometimes a bit chaotic with some staff training ongoing during the meal. Although breakfast was from 7am, when we came for our meal at 8am things were not always in place. For example: no spoons in the cereal bowls, jams hadn't been put out, etc. Although the menu was excellent, with lots of choice, the meals presented lacked some refinement and looked a little messy - a omelette with very large lumps of cheese, was case in point. Overall, the staff at reception were very professional and house-keeping was first class. Perhaps management could take a look at what is happening in the kitchen?
