The Regency Hotel

A second lengthy stay whilst working Birmingham NEC 15 minutes away. Hotel offers good facilities if not somewhat tired and dated, however some rooms were being upgraded during our stay. Great food (5 stars) excellent bar, large car park, no issues

Hotel and room were to be expected for the price. The hotel is a no frills typical 3 star. The food was nice and the bar area has been done up well. The lift was not working and as I was told is very ‘temperamental’ so do not expect it to be working when you stay.

Although some of the bedrooms are a bit dated, the bars and restaurant are good. The food we had was excellent especially steak and peppercorn sauce. I believe thatvthere are different grades of rooms at different prices and we only paid the base price. Parking is a bit steep at £10 though

The elevator only worked half the time

Ground floor carpet by the rooms needs changing. The first room we were given smelt damp, so we got our room changed, the second one was fine. Disliked being charged £10.00p a day for parking because we booked through Expedia.

Stayed in a family room, reasonable size. Beds comfortable, Our room appeared to be over a generater or something, there was a constant buzzing noise. Staff were all friendly and helpful we only ate at breakfast, but had to asks for cups glasses, bowls etc.. they seemed to run out quickly. Only saw 1 lady on the breakfast servicing trying to do everything. Highlight of this hotel is the Sauna, swimming pool etc . Absolutely lovely. The hotel is under referbishment at the moment.

Give these guys the benefit of the doubt. They are refurbing. Nice lounge and bar. The staff work very hard. The breakfast was lovely. But they need to replace the damn coffee machine. The pool is currently closed till spring 2024. The plug sockets are ridiculous. (ALL Placed in strange places, most unusual.Take an extension lead) There are a lot If stairs (when the lift isn’t working). The meals are nice, if not a bit pricy. Car park is huge. We will be back.

Lift not working. Coffee machine not working at breakfast. Dinner at Harry's was edible but sub standard. Card details required at check-in?? I am not a thief. Paying for parking is also a joke/rip off.

The pool was closed

Rooms were filthy first room we got bed was full of small black hair hate to think where it was from. Then we got to our second room which was meant to be an upgrade for the inconvience the only difference was that it was a bigger room and a king size bed in there which was like sleeping on wood slats and pillows was like cheese slices. Even the corridor carpets looked like they had bleach leaked all over it. outdated and just generally falling to pieces. have to pay 20 pound to keep your car on there car park even though your a customer staying there. See pictures for more. Would never stay again.

The building is lovely and has so much potential. Sadly, the room decor is very poor, of particular note the carpet hadn't been vacuumed, there were crumbs and toenail clippings on the floor! Thankfully the beds were clean, and comfortable. The furniture was very worn and damaged. Further, the fire alarm went off twice late at night. We were unsure what to do as it stopped after a minute but no-one came around to explain. We mentioned it when leaving and the lady laughed and said "oh yes, it does that sometimes". We were not impressed and sadly would not stay again.

The room was very hot (it was not a hot summers day), the mattress was cheap and uncomfortable. The dust around the carpet edges was thick with dust. Staff were lacking in customer service. No information was given at breakfast as to how it worked, had to ask for a plate. I was disappointed as I booked this hotel after it being recommended by a friend. I won’t be returning.

Booked a twin room for 2 nights for myself and my daughter who had to visit a local clinic. Upon arrival the outside of the hotel looked great and very promising. Sadly the room was a massive let down. I cannot emphasise enough how disgusted we were with the condition of the room, massive amount of mould in the bathroom, to wall against one of the beds had plaster peeling off and falling on the bed. There was construction work during the day which was not mentioned and made any rest during the day impossible. Regarding the mould I am very sorry but you can buy a mould remover spray for a couple of pounds so no justification to let the room in that state; The same goes for the plaster crumbling, it does not take much to fix this. On top of room condition I ended up with bites after one night sleep which I am certain comes from the bedding. After all that we ended up leaving a day early disgusted by the lack of basic standard and cleanliness. I emailed the hotel a day later to explain but had no apology whatsoever and definitely no refund for at least the one night that we left early. This is not the standard you would expect for a hotel advertised as 3 star and charging over £80 per night plus £10 parking. What a disgrace.

Very disappointing, some sort of generator and / or fan going all night - I checked at reception and was told it went off at 10pm - it was later than that and on again very early in the morning. There were some sort of fans going all night. Cobwebs in the room I could nearly swing from, not sure the bedding was clean, did not really have that “fresh” feel. Then to top it off no hot water for a shower

Poor hotel which has not reinvested evidently in years. Lift was broken with a piece of paper that looked like it had been there a while. Beds are so worn there is no support whatsoever. And the highlight, mould all over the bathroom as evidenced from the picture. Should be shut down for health reasons.

the rooms were cold, damp covered in mould and uncomfortable! i have asthma and ended up really struggling due to the mould that was throughout the room. the bathroom had black mould all over the ceiling and the small hit you when you walked in... 2 days later i have a chest infection from the conditions!! the room was super cold and was a struggly to get the heating working, this coupled with thin flimsy bedding where i had to double over the duvet in order to get any heat in me and sleep fully clothed!! yes it was snowing outside. However, i paid for a comfortable room with heating otherwise i would have had a better night sleeping in my car which i did consider when i woke up shivering! the only good thing about this hotel was the restaurant food and the lovely receptionist everything else was dire and i wouldn't stay there again!

The room was very disappointing and basic Not a reflection of the overall look & feel Harry Bar looked great as did the cafe room So we had high hopes for the room. We got quite a shock, the room was basic, curtains looked like something I had as a student Bath was filthy Bathroom was old fashioned and clearly not maintained

I walked in to hotel to a clean reception, however two stairs have stains on them. The rooms didn’t get any better. The bath had no plug . Toilet roll holder was missing. The room was very run down. I slightly leant on the bed for it to move and I near fell. Bathroom is shocking. Skirting board around bath is peeling and however did the filling needs retraining. Other doors in the corridors were loud upon closing. That woke me up during the night. The hotel is in need of a desperate makeover. The staff on reception desk were very friendly. I only booked due to a have a cheap room as it’s close to the nec. I’ve stayed in other 3 star hotels and they weren’t as bad as this hotel.

Check-in was great, lots of parking available and don’t have to pay on weekends. The bedrooms are dated and can do with refurbishment. Our room had 2 singles together to make a kingsize but they were not joined and no way to join them so they kept separating.

Me and my one daughter had a nice overnight stay with a good sleep. My another daughter (she had a competition next day and needed a good sleep) had a terrible night. They could not sleep as it was very loud because of the wedding party happening in the hotel. It would be nice that people are aware of events happening while they stay there and they could affect they sleep.

Whilst clean, the rooms were very tired. Furniture was old, stained and warped. Bathroom fitting were chipped and stained. All and all, the rooms need refurbishment.

Despite the heating being off the room was hot and stuffy even with the window open all evening. No fan or anything in the room. The tv remote didn’t work properly and was non responsive.

It's actually a nice hotel, and you can clearly see they are working on it. The room was average. No luggage rack so case had to go on the bed (and there was room for one). There was no fan (it was incredibly warm). No hooks in the bathroom to hang wet towels from. The blind on the window barely covered the space, so it was very bright as soon as the sun came in. The tea / coffee tray was ok (not a great deal of milk, so enough for one cup), but coffee wasn't very nice anyway. There are no bottles of water left in the room. The single beds were ok. Very wobbly (like jelly when you sat down), and a bit too soft for my taste. What spoilt it for us is that out of 110 rooms, we were placed in room 147, which is the far side of the hotel. We were woken at 7 am with car/van doors banging and loud voices. By 7.30 am, the room above us was clearly being refitted, so the various sounds of hammers, spades scarping the floor, rubble falling .. as you can imagine, not happy. When we left, a room at the end of our corridor (4 rooms up) was clearly getting a refit too. When we asked if the hotel was busy, to place us in that room, with that work going on, the receptionist didn't commit to anything and said 'how awful'. I think staff should be aware of what's going on, and we should never have been placed in that room.

No WIFI coverage in the room and lights not working.

We stayed in a new refurbished room, whilst this as nice, there was no storage space in bathroom, we had to put towels on floor. There was on 1 towel which is not acceptable for a couple and had to ask reception for second towel. The bed was a very small double and was a spring mattress so these dug into my side, making it a very uncomfortable sleepless night. Workman started drilling at 7am in the morning in the room either above or adjacent, again not acceptable.

This hotel has a regular LOUD Friday night disco until MIDNIGHT! I was 3 floors up and with windows closed, felt the rumble of the boom boom boom, heard the music and the DJ talking, and then at midnight loud groups leaving and waiting for taxis for the next 15 minutes. Even a drunk bloke singing loudly to himself. Outrageous! Poor night's sleep, and I will ask for a refund via hotels.com. I have several videos for evidence. Oh. And the lift was out of order to top it all off.

We had a new renovated bedroom, which was nice and big and spacious. The bed could’ve been a bit bigger but overall comfortable night.

Clean and tidy but showing a bit of wear. Bed needed a new mattress or a topper as you could feel the springs. Breakfast ok but a lot of the items on the cooked buffet were not hot.

I didn't expect too much, as the hotel was a cheap option as a stop on business. It managed to deliver below my low expectation. The first interaction that you have is to be charged £10 for parking. I searched online for a hotel with parking, and I would likely have chosen a different option. The first thing that you experience at this hotel is a mugging. The room was nothing like the pictures. Dated, awful furniture and a bed that might has passed as a trampoline. Just dismal. There were doors banging until the small hours, and this started again in the morning. No soft close mechanisms. The large gap at the bottom of the door ensured that light came in from the corridor so the room was never dark. In the morning the shower didn't work so I had to have a bath, but at least the water was warm. Nothing about this hotel makes me ever want to go back. As someone else has noted you are not asked how your stay was when you check out. They know.

Upon arrival although couldn’t get the electric charger to work the hotel itself was perfect for what we needed and the next morning the man on reception couldn’t have done enough for me changing rooms for my daughter so she could stay in the one she was in - excellent customer service would stay again no hesitation

Absolutly disgusted! Room was booled for 3 people yet given a double room, spoke to hotel manager he rectified it on the friday night then we left a review with expedia the same night explaining we should at least have a bed for our son. Next day we came back and our room keys were disabled, spoke to reception and the general manager came put and said the reason he did it is because we left a review with expedia!! Yes i got irate because we could access our room to get medication or pur sons milk, we were then told to leave! Lost money and lost time with a family member qho is terminally ill. Disgusting , we want a full refund

Where do I start? AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS. Service was dreadful - The lady on reception PUNISHED me for having the temerity to ask to change rooms as my TV was not working,it stank and I was next to a boiler. I was put in a room at far end of building with no wifi and a bed direct from an overcrowded Ecudoarian jail cell. The mattress was over 40 year old (I sell beds - I know) Breakfast is the most undercooked sausage and bacon ever. A VILE place with simply the worst receptionist in history .

My stay was good, staff were friendly, room was clean, restaurant food was good and the gardens were well kept. Good value for an overnight stay for visiting UKGE at the NEC.

I am hoping the manager Nick Windsor will restore my faith in this hotel. So far not a good experience . Charged for a breakfast I did not have. No apology , no reimbursement. Treated appallingly !

Awful, room was dirty, most of the lights didn’t work in the room. Received a parking charge after inputting my details on their system, called them to discuss and got a very defensive woman who refused to help, passed the blame to me. Customer service is shocking.

Nice hotel in a good location for me. Restaurant and bar are very modern but still comfy. Food was good. Bedrooms would benefit from being modernised. Only down point is I don't like paying for parking at a hotel, it should be part of the cost the stay.

Great staff, not much around to visit but enjoyable stay

The Regency provided a good base for us to attend a two day work event

My stay was good, staff were friendly, room was clean, restaurant food was good and the gardens were well kept. Good value for an overnight stay for visiting UKGE at the NEC.

Lovely hotel. Fairly inexpensive. Very convenient - short distance from major roads but didn't feel like it. Clean but basic. Looked like it had seen better days - clear signs of people trying hard to keep the place clean and fresh but it had a TV from the 80s and few comforts in the room. The only thing that would put me off staying again is the mattress which was the worst I've ever slept on. My partner weighs around 90kg - he lay down and sank into the bed, causing a massive dip. I weigh around 50kg and was left trying to sleep on the other side which then sloped at 30 degrees. I kept rolling back into my partner. It would have been funny if I wasn't so tired. Great pizza in the restaurant downstairs. Friendly staff.

Tv not working Told reception Maria and was assured she would sort it or change rooms, Spa not open, went to David Lloyd, back after 2 hours, Maria had left and done nothing, then told they could do anything or change rooms, mattress was tired with springs sticking through room 113, very limited menu and couldn’t do veg options, took taxi to dine out

First impression was really good, until we wanted to eat in the restaurant which only had one vegan token offering. Room was ok, mattress was awful and squeaky. Breakfast the coffee machine was broken, hot water wasn’t very hot for the coffee bags provided. Again no vegan offerings. And the pasties was cross contaminated with nut ones sitting on top of non nut ones. Really disappointed

Room was tatty for what paid hair in bathroom which was not ours, furniture tatty ceiling all peeling and flaking off cartpet dirty breakfast buffet sausages were not cooked bacon the same. Waited over 20 mins for eggs and hash browns to come agter asking more than 3 times others guest we were with as was a large wedding said the same by time come out it ws too late. Such a shame as had love evening at the event 😕

This is the 2nd time we've stayed at the Regency for a business trip. This time around we booked it last minute as our original hotel in Coleshill was awful and we had enjoyed our previous stay here. There is plenty of parking on site, they've added more electric car ports since the last time, even though we don't have one it's good to see. The staff are very friendly, rooms are clean and spacious with comfy beds, fresh towels and decent sized TV. The attached bar and restaraunt is fantastic, a little pricey but expected from a hotel bar and restaraunt. The food however is amazing so it definitely felt worth the price again with friendly staff.

Out door eating area very clean and well kept. We had a school reunion, there was plenty of space, tables and chairs. Great breakfast and evening meals. Entertainment in the evenings. The front terrace was lovely to sit on in the day time.

Friendly staff, good bars, nice food

Had a 2 night stay for the UK Games Expo weekend - room was nicer than expected. The food in the Brasserie was excellent and the service at there at the bar in the evenings was great. Definitely coming back next year.
