Countryside Suites Kansas City Independence I-70 East Sports Complex Hotel

Went to help my sister fix up her house and needed a cheap place to sleep for two days. Pluses: Cheaper than other area hotels Fairly Clean Plenty of close restaurants Internet-WIFI- works well They allow pets. $20 a night fee. Minuses: All doors locked, even to get to the front desk. You have to call to get someone to open the door. Extremely dated- no updates since 1940. May be a slight exaggeration but not to far off No breakfast. And the coffee that is supposed to be in the lobby? Non-existent. Have to drive through 2 other properties parking lot to get to the hotel lot. Just be careful of the potholes. The mattress has to older than the hotel. Seriously, it saw better days 10 years ago. They make you pay cash for the pet fee. Don't have it? They have an ATM that charges you $3.99 to use it in the lobby. No pool, exercise rooms, or any sort of extras. Water in the sink works, but it acts like it is partially blocked. In the end, it served my purpose as a place to lay my head. Definitely one of the worst hotels I have ever stayed in, and will not again unless there is absolutely nowhere else to turn. The guy who runs it is nice enough, but it seriously needs upgraded in the worst way. I get it, that cost money, but there is potential there if they would just invest.

NO POOL! We booked this hotel because the the pool, checked out after one day and better NOT be charged for two days. Also, dirty and crackheads in the place. DO NOT CHARGE ME for the 2nd night. We checked out after ONE terrible night!

There is a gate up halfway through lot and you pull in the one way you can go and all the stalls face the other direction. Then the hallways are super hot and just feel run down. The room itself, there’s no carpet or even a rug, only good thing was bed was comfortable. Felt more like a hospital room floor but not as nice. There was ceiling drywall that had fallen in bathroom over tub. Could see there was once a leak. We didn’t even want to use the shower. Tub was awful, it was dirty and parts of tub coming off. The tv wasn’t even mounted even though there were at least 2 mounts. Light fixtures hanging off, patches of dinged up walls. There was nothing special in room like a book to tell what hotel offered. Not even anything to tell about things in the area. Security doors that didn’t fully close and not only that but not even glass on the door. This is like a bad run down motel. They need to remove the suites name as well as update their booking site cause it’s not like it was presented. No phone in room either. Overall it was awful!! Do not stay here! If I hadn’t been with my guy I would not have felt safe there.

Run down, the lady at the service desk was so slow there was a line of people waiting to check in out the door, front door wouldn’t open until we called the help number on the window, refrigerator for the room was still in the box, remote control batteries were dead, bedside lights wouldn’t turn on, pool was shut down, the place STUNK. looked like one of the doors leading to the parking lot was shot and replaced with a piece of particle board, not a great experience but it was cheap and we were only there to sleep. shower was disgusting and only provided with 3 pillows for a queen sized bed. i could go on…

This location is a mess. Hotel/booking website shows pictures of pristine rooms and a beautiful pool. This was not our experience. Make sure you have cash for resort fee. The key pad to get in was busted. I’ve attached pictures of issues we found in both rooms. Dirty bathroom, stained sheets, walls splashed with mystery gunk, & don’t open the curtains or else the curtain rod might come falling down!! We also found a pair of underwear stashed under the bed while we were looking for my daughter’s glasses! Other major concerns we had: 1) there was a plastic bag over the smoke detector and 2) there was a car that appeared to have been in an accident with a window smashed in that idled in the parking lot over night. My husband went to the front desk to inform them about the idling car and they told him to just reach inside the car and turn it off. He said no due to not being sure what that car had been involved in. Eventually the front desk lady call the cops and even the cops refused to reach in and turn it off. They informed the front desk agent that they would be back to tow it once 24 hrs had passed. The hallways were unkempt with ceiling tiles falling in & trash cans in the hallway to catch rain. The pool was also closed due to mold in it. Also there are massive potholes in the parking lot you need to watch out for. Finally, online we paid $149.99 per room for Friday night. Only to find out that they had a sign advertising 49.99 as the going rate.

We weren't expecting fancy, just clean and as advertised. It was sketchy out of the gate as they charged us a $100 per room "deposit" as well as a $20 "transfer" fee that had to be paid in cash. We smelled the mold as soon as we opened out door. It seems the A/C unit has been leaking for quite some time. A good portion of the floor was damp and mold was visible on walls and ceilng. The room was disgusting! AND any amenities the website listed were NOT REAL!! THE WORST EVER

They do not have breakfast and the pool is closed due to covid. They do not have extra pillows. Bed are extremely hard. Room was dirty when we checked. The door got stuck every time you closed it so it was hard to open from inside the room.

Finally found a door that was boarded up and got it open and went into find a housekeeper who couldn’t understand English. 30 mins later finally got service. Room was ok, bathroom tub was just super stained and had hairs all over floor. No handsoap. Woke up looking for coffee and that was a no go. Pool is all nasty with weeds and grass grew up everywhere. Don’t let the pictures fool you. I’m not usually a complainer and usually just go with it. But the was the Worst service hands down. If we wasn’t in town for a concert and everywhere else wasnt booked up. We would have gladly took the charged room and went else where. Only good thing was it was a straight show to the stadium. 6 min drive.

Hour to check in after arriving to a locked facility with sign on door to call a number that noone would answer. Several other people sitting in cars also trying to figure out what to do. Finally get someone on phone had to wait longer till they gotthry opened the doors. Then had to wait while they checked everyone in. Get to the room and it was absolutely disgusting. Bathroom was gross, linens were filthy, pillows stank, floor was loaded with dirt, bed was worse than anything I had tried to sleep on at any other hotel in the country. Do Not Stay Here! Not even if they give you a free room.

Absolutely disgusting and pictures to prove it. Not enough time to list ALL the issues we had at this place. No working phones in the whole place, no cold water, sliced my finger open on the drain plate that’s not secured in the sink, holes in the ceiling and walls. Ceiling in the hallway fell through and debris everywhere. Stated there was an outdoor pool and was shut down. Had to pay a $100 deposit which I still haven’t record back. Non refundable or we would have left so fast. Oh and got accused of stealing a pillow case when we grabbed towels off the cart because no one ever cleaned our room. I had to take the garbage out and towels were thin as paper. Absolutely worst place I have EVER stayed and it should be shut down . I would be glad to share the photos!

Just hands down the nastiest hotel ive ever been in. Room smelt like smoke and whatever funk was in the hotel. Blood on the walls. The shower curtain was so stained and srunk like it had never been washed. Floors in the hall ways was soaked. Absolute worst

There was hair all over the shower wall, yeah feces on the toilet seat. Tub and shower was missing its coating and sealant. Floors were dirty. Mirror not clean. Very few amenities. We were put in a new room. The carpet had mold and shower needed repairs. Bed and box spring were stained and old. Only two pillows in the room. Felt very uncomfortable and concerned with cleanliness.

The whole place was dirty. Room wasn’t cleaned yet when we got there. Shower curtain had mold on it. Shower had no water pressure. Toilet barely flushed. Hardwood floor was dirty. TV didn’t work. Hallways disgusting. Service was horrible. Not sure how this place passes inspections. Looks sure can be deceiving…

The most undesirable accommodation in Independence, MO. Initially welcomed by one of the most pleasant front desk agents. The check-in process was seamless. However, upon entering my room, I was immediately confronted by the foul odor of a backed-up toilet. The bathroom was in a deplorable state, with a pen propping up the shower rod, a vent hanging from the ceiling, and duct tape securing the door lock. The beds had white stains on the sheets, used lashes on the blankets, and additional lashes on the dresser and mirror. There were broken outlets that prevented me from charging my phone, ants on the lamp shades, and mold on the ceiling. I returned to the front desk to request a different room, and I was relocated. The new room lacked the unpleasant odor, but it was marred by blood and cigarette burns on the main blankets. I went back downstairs, and the agent's demeanor shifted from friendly to annoyed. When I requested yet another room, she suggested I could return to my previous one. I opted to go back, as I preferred to endure the smell and other issues rather than deal with blood. There was no offer to assist in cleaning the bathroom or repairing the broken items, and I was repeatedly questioned about my choice to stay there. It was already 9 PM, making it too late to seek alternative accommodations. I had my son with me and had to go to Walmart to purchase Clorox wipes, sheets, and towels. I would never wish for anyone to undergo the experience I had here. STAY AWAY!

The room was dirty upon arrival. It reaked of cat urine. People would just stay in the parking lot to party/drink.

The front desk agent showed me 5 different rooms before assigning one to me since they were all in bad conditions. They were all dirty, smelled like pee, there was a lot of insecuirty of people outside drinking standing outside the room doors. The carpets smelled like they had been peed on and the blankets seemed like they had not been washed with yellow stains. It was horrible, I did not end up staying and had to look for another hotel.

Rooms were trashed and smoked in. There was no swimming pool. I was told it was just remodeled ,smoke detector missing , ice machine not working ,tv not working. Rooms do not have microwave or refrigerator. When I walked into lobby smelled like marijuana. Place looks nothing like the website.

Crack heads were hanging out outside. We got our room keys and the room was filthy beds not made. Food everywhere. It took them 2 hours to get us new room keys. We came for a 3 night stay for a football game. We had 4 rooms booked on Hotel.com but when we came to check in we were told the computer system was down so they gave us a room. The second room booked in my group didn’t get to the motel till 3am and they were told they could not find their reservation even after showing them the hotel.com confirmation so my friends left and went to another motel. My family had 2 rooms reserved and had a confirmation and they had no record of them either! When my family came in town they made a new reservation for them and they stayed. The beds were comfortable and the heat and a/c worked fine in our rooms! The photos on the website for this motel is not correct being it shows rooms with kitchenettes and our room had no microwave,fridge or coffee maker or hair dryer! The location to the stadium was convenient!

Rooms could probably be updated but beds were comfortable and the man at the desk was very nice

Well the shower had no hot water! I let it run for 30 minutes and it only got luke warm! We wont be back!

It would rate this about a two star hotel. Any of the appliances were broken, and it looked like there was mold on the ceiling.

Honestly, this was a last minute choice cause it was cheap. The staff gave us a room that wasn’t cleaned yet and then later in the day almost got into a fight with one of the guests. No hot water for the showers, the ac isn’t that good sometimes it smells really bad. Only decent thing about this place is the bed and pillows. I just wish I could take a hot shower.

When I arrived the main entrance was locked at 10 pm and i had to call just to be let in when they answered the phone i was informed of an additional $100 deposit either cash or card. And would it be ok? After agreeing i was let into the lobby and proceeded with check in and was told there's also a $10 cash property fee. After giving the woman a $20 bill she couldn't even make change and said she would have to bring it to my room. She then said "I have a room on the second floor". I asked her for a room on the first floor because I just had knee surgery 6 days prior. She stated she would have to check a room to see if it was clean while I waited. When she came back she said "the room was clean but it was a king bed not a queen" as if she expected me to pay extra and repeated it again after I asked if that was a problem. Most places considering my condition would have been very helpful and just accomodated my injury at no extra cost. I was very tired from driving all day long and said "just give me the room on the second floor" After finally getting a key I went back to my truck and pulled around the side of the building as directed and found my way to the room. When I got inside the TV was on ? Idk why. I shut the door and when i tried to lock the security deadbolt I had to pull the door in and out and it was quite a struggle just to engage the lock. The bathroom sink had toothpaste all over it and looked as though it had not been cleaned at all. At least bed was clean.

A phone number taped to the door said to call, and when we did were told it would be a 20 minute wait to get inside. I had made reservations in advance with Hotels.com, and this was starting to look like a shady deal. When we finally gained enterence, the check in clerk (most likely the owner/maid/maintenance guy) required a $10 CASH payment in addition to my pre-paid amount, for booking through a 3rd party!!! That is insane, I've stayed in hotels world wide and this policy does not exist in any manner....anywhere. The room was dirty, filthy carpet & bathroom and did NOT have a coffee maker or microwave....and it was a SUITE! For crying out loud, this was Hotel Hell come to life. No lobby coffee or breakfast whatsoever. The irony was not lost because we were surrounded by good hotels within walking distance. DO NOT book this place, it should be fumigated and permanently closed.

Check in - she wanted a $10 “transfer fee.” Then, card reader not working and she wanted cash payment, even though it was booked on-line. No receipt provided. Outside door did not work and we called the phone number listed three times with no response. Clerk showed no emotion or energy. Room was fine. Check-out. No one at the desk.

The owner lied about my booking and tried to charge me more, even though I pulled up my booking. Also no guests are allowed other than who rents the room. May be a front because the hotel was almost empty and he didn't seem to mind losing business.

The checking was OK. My room keys were not working properly. The room was very clean, but the actual bathroom was dirty. There were no amenities in anything potholes in the parking lot definitely not worth what I pay for my night. I probably will not stay there again. but they were a lot of good places to eat around

Where do we start killing cockroachs in the room and in the bed. Gross that is just not goid service and yes wedid tell the front desk about tbem and wastold they are in e ery room. Definitely compared it to the one on 435 and front street , it was decent but breakfast could’ve been better .

No amenities whatsoever. No refrigerator in the room. No microwave, no coffee pot. They don't even have coffee in the lobby.
