Super cool mid-Century contemporary vibe. Felt like time traveling. A wonderfully refurbished old school motor inn, with lots of attention to detail. Great pool and lounge.

Great stay, security guard at night. Clean and 15 min drive to downtown. I would stay again. The other reviews are correct about the area, but the security guard made it feel very safe inside the grounds.

Updated midmod look with a 60's--70's vibe. More Mod Squad than Brady Bunch. Era appropriate music playing outside, but not too loud. Very comfortable bed and pillows. Clean bathroom. Mini fridge in the room. No elevator, but we were able to get our room switched to 1st floor and parked right outside the room.

The Starlight Motor Inn overall was a great stay. The check in experience was great. Did everything digital and was able to park after the drive in and go straight to the room. The room was nice, clean and inviting. Large walk in shower and great towels and soaps provided. Room was very updated and the vibe of the hotel was carried into the room. The pool, pool bar and lobby area made me feel like I was in Palm Springs with carring the Mid-Century Modern feel throughout the property. The grounds was very clean an offered lots of parking. Yes the surrounding area is not the greatest location and amenities. So you will have to uber or drive to do activities and as this is in North Charleston not close to the downtown district but was 10 minutes from the convention center which was the main reason of our stay. Would stay here again.

Love this hotel . Have stayed several times . I will say that I was displeased with the fact that myself and grandkids could barely use the pool due to the Inn offering RESORT PASS . I don’t feel that paying full price for a weekend stay that I would have to share the pool with outsiders that are paying to use pool for $25 a day .. again I do love this inn and the nostalgic feel yet beautifully renovated with excellent customer service . I will stay here again in future . Just offering constructive criticism.

If you want room service you have to ask and a small add'l charge. But Housekeeping supplies - fresh towels, toiletries etc are always available on 24/7 carts. Coffee in lobby. On-site bar is very cool and fun - entertainment most nights. Open late - we were there until approx 12am most nights. GM Hank is very nice and accommodating. True hotel is in a rougher part of town, but it feels very safe and inside the walled property you are blissfully unaware of the surroundings. Great vibe here - always a chair by the sparkling pool and super chill. I have stayed at the Ryder, Dewberry and other great properties downtown. This was easy access to downtown and a great comfortable, convenient, and clean stay for a fraction of the price. Patrons were families, professionals and hipsters. Loved having access to our rental car outsidee the room - true motel. Thank you to Starlight for rehabbing this history, investing in this neighborhood and providing great alternative stay in Charleston! Look forward to staying again.

Cute & clean. As it is a re-vamped motel, the rooms are small, but is to be expected. The updates are nice, lobby gathering room area very cool, pool house & drinks were thumbs up, and pool party was fun! Planning to stay again in a couple of months.

They hosted a wine tasting event around the pool. Cool. But they took the parking.

It is such a cute revival of a motor inn! The room was clean, the decor, spot on, everything worked, bathroom was white, clean. Towels were new and fluffy. The light fixtures worked. The bed and sheets were comfortable and clean. The key word for this room was CLEAN.

Roach crawling across the bed in the middle of the night was an unpleasant surprise. Heads up to other potential guests that check in is 4pm and room service ends at 5pm. Decent value, but would not stay again due to pest issues

This little hotel is a well-kept secret. Only 5 mi out of the historic district of Charleston, it was the best hotel I've stayed in so far on my trip from Florida to New York. The beds were comfortable, it had great pillows, the shower was roomy with great water pressure and nice shampoo conditioner and body wash. Everything was impeccably clean and keyless check in was super easy. This little place is a gem and is someplace you should definitely consider staying..

Very cute hotel! Only downside was that there was hair around the toilet and in the shower like they weren’t washed prior to our arrival. Also black mold was on the indoor AC vent.

Evidence of bed bugs.. Stained bedsheets.. Shower was not cleaned prior to my stay.. I booked four nights, but had to check out after the first night due to discomfort with the above. Management slightly debated me back and forth regarding concerns even though I submitted photos.. Didn't receive refund despite having to change hotels during my trip..

The property was fun and retro but it needs a good paint job on the outside. I wish there was better lighting inside the rooms.

This is an old motor inn that's been updated and refreshed, and overall it was decent for the price. The location was convenient—close enough to downtown Charleston without the high downtown rates. The room itself was fine, but when we checked in, there was quite a bit of hair in the shower, which wasn’t the best first impression. There were also some loud banging noises at night that sounded like someone moving furniture, which made it a little hard to relax. That said, it worked for what we needed—just don’t go in expecting anything fancy.

Awesome place..Beds pillows and sheets where very comfortable. Room was clean and tidy. The decor and tv where great. The only problem was clogged shower. But was fixed the next day.

Love this place! Beautifully renovated with a nice shower, comfortable bed, and great pillows -- all with amazing historic charm. Enjoyed the lounge too, especially since many affordable places to stay have no bar.

Very clean, easy check in and check out. No problems. It is on a major road with some traffic noise and occasional siren noise so bring a white noise machine. Although it seemed to die down after 11 pm. Cool 60s vibe.

The updated rooms were very nice and spacious. I liked the design and the modern touches. Overall very clean rooms and pretty quiet overall.

Great concept, but lacking in location and execution. Had great reviews, which I fear may be driven by influencers or comp'd stays, as there was a group of young girls at the pool doing "content shoots" that I saw while I was there. The location is the biggest drawback for me- to each their own, but I was a little concerned staying alone as a young female. The rooms are great- spacious and clean, however, the full glass windows right near the parking area were concerning. You can also hear neighbors upstairs, but the weirdest part was their footsteps would vibrate the bed which was on a strange metal type platform. Would have loved to have explored the pool area and common spaces, but they were right on the main road which was a little uncomfortable based on the location.

Was not expecting much upon first glance of outside however was pleasantly shocked at the room which not only clean and modern but tastefully done. The bed was great! Plus the TV has Roku! Did I mention a sound machine? Well done!!! Also had fun in the lounge.

It’s a super cute motel that is very clean and comfortable. My only complaint was that the lights outside are on all night and are super bright. In fact, it was darker in our room in the day with the lights off and curtains closed than at night. This is due to much light filtering through the transom. The pool is super cute and fun but fairly cold. The location is also a bit far from many of the attractions, but the ambiance makes up for it.

Our room was exceptionally clean and comfortable. We could not hear our neighbors or people passing by our door. The staff is amazing!! Very courteous, friendly and professional. Talking with them was like having a conversation with your friends. We had such a wonderful stay. Only downfall we had was that there was no mini-microwave in the condo. All other items (TV, mini-fridge, shower, bathroom light up mirror, etc) were modern and well kept.

$200 deposit required as I tried to check in to my two rooms. Very bad timing…

The hotel is located in a bit of a sketchy area of North Charleston. However, the hotel felt very, very safe. We had an issue with our “neighbors” partying right outside our room, twice, and security was on it immediately! The lounge is funky, in a good way.

Our 3rd time staying here. Love it. Love how close it is to everything. Manager and staff are wonderful and accommodating. Will be back every time we stay in Charleston.

Customer service was outstanding! Due to tropical storm Helene we were unable to make our original flight to Charleston so I called to cancel my reservation and they were kind enough to give me a credit for future use as I had already paid. Then we were able to take a flight the following morning to Charlotte and drive to Charleston arriving late. They were leaving a key for our room under the doormat but it wasn’t there when we got there so I called and thankfully she answered the call and directed us to another room where the code worked! The room was awesome - clean, comfy and great amenities! ( I did have to take the shampoo etc out of the holder in the shower as the tube had come disconnected from the pump on the body wash so the body wash wasn’t working so I fixed it) My only concern is that it was the end unit near the office and ice machine so at 1am people had gathered in the walkway drinking and were talking & laughing loudly. Then the following night at the same time a guest from room #224 was drinking and came down for ice and was inviting a woman named Rosa to come up to his room for drinks! Room #101 is not a room I would recommend as the ice falling into a bucket is loud and drinkers are gathering there and are loud and inconsiderate. This is not the staff or hotels fault but rather inconsiderate guests using the area as a smoking and gathering area in the middle of the night and filling up with ice. I would come back and stay but not in this room!

Place was hard to navigate around as there is no elevators . And warning we checked out 90 mins after 11 and got charged 40.00 and we tried to find someone to get prior approval and nobody was around and no phone in room . Very bad service . Then they lied and tried to say we left at 2pm and did nothing to compensate our money . This place can’t be trusted

No muss….no fuss!! Simple and easy!! Remote staff (there are none on site) were very responsive in communicating by text. I would definitely stay with them again!

I did not like the online check in. You get a text message with your Room # and the code to enter your room. They changed my Room # but didn't update my code and was unable to get in. Had to call and get a new code and then was even more confused by the two more codes I was sent afterwards. Also, did not appreciate the noise from the giant pool party. Also, the Internet and cable TV services were out, which I received a message about, but that still did not make up for an amenity that was not available. Would not recommend this hotel.

We loved our stay here. I came with 3 friends and we stayed in a bunk room. We had a few issues checking in but were able to call and get assistance right away. The staff on site was very nice and helped us immediately with a problem we had in our room. We stayed right by the pool and were nervous it would be loud at night but it wasn’t at all. A very cool vibe and you can tell the owners really care about the property.

Amazing gem of a hotel in Charleston. It seriously does not get better for the price! Rooms were beautifully updated and comfortable. We were four adults in a double queen room, and there was plenty of space for all of us. Would certainly stay here again. Staff were friendly, pool was wonderful, and the vibes were great. It is in a more residential area of Charleston, about a 10/15-minute drive from all the things to do downtown. We ubered some and drove some, with no issues.

The property itself is fine, it’s perfectly fine motor lodge, it’s Justin a part of town that has nothing in it. Also, charging $200 for incidentals is ridiculous.

Roadside motel so well designed and comfy The ordinary industrial area around it is a mere 10 minutes by car down a straight road from the popular commerce. Quiet and off the beaten path. Best with car.

The hotel is located in a weird location. The street had drug users. It’s not gated so the room as exposed. It’s far from downtown area. The room was cute and clean. Ended up not staying because I didn’t like the location. They first agreed with me to charge for one night but they ended up charging for all three nights. They were not flexible to give money back even though I didn’t stay there.

This is an old place that has been updated. Management was not always on-site, but they always responded quickly when contacted. Not the greatest location, but it was convenient and at no time did we not feel safe. Parking was a bit tight, but plentiful.

Loved the decor. Super friendly. Security all night made me feel safe. The #10 bus cost a buck to get us right to the visitor center in historic Charleston. Also it is not too far from Magnolia Plantation, the train station and the airport. Additionally there is a good comedy club and a restaurant about a 3 minute walk away.

I absolutely loved this little place. Loved the retro vibe. Everything is new, very comfy and clean. Super easy to book, check in and gain access to the room and staff friendly. The Burgundy Lounge was fun and convenient. I will definitely be staying again next time I am in the area!

The contact-less ease of "checking in" was a breeze. The lounge is fantastic and the lobby was great for hanging out.

Love this place! It’s easy and comfortable and they have a cool bar/lounge (Burgundy Lounge). No restaurant on site, but there are places nearby to drive to (King BBQ and Rebel Tequila, and Kitchen Junction, to name a few!). Area looks a bit dodgy but it’s not- it’s just not ruined like the rest of CHS. Enjoy your stay x

The rooms were cute clean and comfortable. The staff very helpful. Love that you can get questions answered via text, very easy. Had some drinks in the bar , the bartender was very nice and made the atmosphere fun. It was cool that there was a breakfast food truck on Sunday Morning with great options for breakfast . I wouldn't say that the neighborhood is the best , but the location is great. I would stay again. I appreciate the managements vision for this boutique - y hotel.

We were pleasantly surprised how nice this property was. The retro feel and updates were great. Mobile pickleball net and paddles available in parking lot was a neat addition. Proximity to Coliseum was awesome. Ate at Sesame Burgers nearby and would also go there again. Check in and check out couldn't have been easier. Do not hesitate to book here

Very clean, newly renovated, comfortable bed and nice thick pillows. The lounge was very cool with live music and a vintage vibe. We were there for a concert at the Firefly Distillery- and it was very close and convenient to the venue. It is on the outskirts of Charleston- about 10 minute drive to downtown. It’s kind of like an industrial area there is no shopping or dining within walking distance but the property was secure and felt safe. Would definitely return!
