The Historic Blue Moon Hotel - NYC

Well...upon arrival, i was asked (made) to pay a 'facility' fee they said Expedia didn't collect...so that wasn't pleasant at all. otherwise, cute place ...drafty, but the atmosphere was part of the allure.

the manager of the property is very nice guy. Room was over price due to fashion week, but the pace is decent, rooms are big and clean. neighborhood is very active, lot of clubs, bars and restaurants close by. No luxury amenities.

What an interesting, bizarre little place in a great location. The rooms were comfortable, the balconies fantastic. And every interaction with the staff where information was imparted conflicted with other information imparted by staff and left me confused. If you need concierge service, this isn't your place. If you like weird and also pretty good wifi and a quiet place to sleep in a great location for a reasonable price, you're gonna be hard-pressed to do better in Manhattan.

One of the best hotels you can stay at if you are driving into NYC. There is always parking directly across the street or around the corner. Keyless entry with pin instead of using a card, so you can never lose your keys. All in all a GREAT hotel. I always come back!

I had rented the 1 bedroom apartment 701 for 3 nights last minute stay because my other accommodations at The Muse fell through due to city scaffolding and not being able to use the balcony room, they let me know the night before, so I had to scramble and many hotels were already full. When I arrived the Blue Moon hotel seemed closed, the street in front was closed, the Uber had to go down anyway because of all my luggage (I had traveled by train on a10 day Boston trip prior) so I was ready to check in! Turns out it was Passover holiday and the hotel was run on a skeleton crew.Ok. understandable,no glass of wine to welcome us like the website suggested? That's ok. The elevator is slow but efficient and the room is 420 friendly. Everything feels safe, they're nice and friendly, but no housekeeping or ice machine. No breakfast as advertised either, the cafe downstairs looks like a set of a cafe but again it's a holiday week. There's Dudley's cafe on the corner and it's wonderful food. They stay has great views of the Chrysler Building and the empire State Building. There's a comfortable bed. The tub had hairs in it...Eww. I thinkI loved the coffee machine and the mini fridge the most! It's a nice thing to wake up to a hot coffee and a view of the city. The historic Blue Moon has a fresh coat of paint and one can notice little updates and pride in ownership from the big screen TV to providing updated electrical outlets. There's a touch of the classic NYC feel to the place too!

This is by far the worst hotel I’ve ever stayed in and I travel every other week. The hotel makes you check out 11 and if you want to leave your bags it’s a $50 charge even for only two hours. The management is aggressive and rude and not accommodating. It’s an old property with me no flare way over priced. They didn’t even clean my room in the three nights that I stayed there. I will never stay here again and highly suggest you don’t either

This property is not up to the caliber of a 4-star hotel is grossly overpriced for the quality of accommodation. I also have concerns that a number of the reviews about this hotel are fabricated. The property's common areas are shabby, and not in the "charming" sense they try to claim. As other's have said, the $30 "resort fee" is laughable. There is no gym, no room service, no pool, actually no property amenities at all. The room itself was clean, and large for NYC. However, there's no cable, no phone, and my shower did not have hot water. I've come to expect in-room noise when I travel to NYC, but this was worst than most. Thin enough walls where I could hear conversations of my neighbors, and it seems there's a nightclub within earshot so there was a good bit of bass thumping until the wee hours. The front desk staff is just odd. I think they mean well but they lack a level of professionalism that just makes interacting with them off-putting. For the price of this hotel you can find MUCH nicer properties in the area. I travel to NYC quite often and would never stay again.

We loved the hotel. It’s a little older but the rooms were updated. Loved the balcony and the view of the city. Elevator is a tad slow. New Yorkers like to use their car horns.

I absolutely love this hotel. The staff are very kind, the neighborhood is my favorite in New York, and the hotel is very charming. It’s not a hipster hotel, so if you want that experience, go do a different thing. But if you want to stay in a historic, restored tenement, and you want the most spacious hotel room that you can get for this price, with an ACTUAL balcony and kitchenette, definitely book here!!

Amazing hotel!!! Just like the pictures, clean and comfortable. Bigger than your average NYC hotel room and it has a balcony!!! Staff was super friendly and very attentive. Perfect location for anything in Manhattan and super quick to Brooklyn. One block away from the subway which was clutch. Loved the neighborhood and will definitely stay here again and again.

Mould in the bathroom

I love boutique hotels, and thought with the historic accolades this hotel would be great. It's not terrible, but there were quite a few issues, running toilet, flickering lights, broken coffee pot, cheerios on the floor from previous guest, lumpy pillows and the mattress was sloped and the shower doors didn't slide - the property is tired. The room was spacious and had a nice balcony but for the money I think we could have done better. Staff was not outright snarky, but not anxious to please either. You can do better in NYC.

Lovely family run hotel full of history and charn. Room was very clean, comfortable, and stylish.

The ac in my room didn't work and the was no remote for the TV. Called the front desk for help and they couldn't help me.

Very friendly, food was spectacular and the rooms were very clean and comfortable.

What a lovely hotel! I loved all of the historical collages and paintings by the owner. The room was beautiful and immaculate! The owner and the desk guy David were very friendly and interesting to talk to. I really enjoyed my stay.

We were disappointed with our stay unfortunately. We had some problems with the plumbing in our room, specifically the shower head kept falling off and our toilet was blocked/not flushing properly. We raised this with the staff and were assured it would be fixed when we returned that afternoon, however, when we returned nothing had changed and there was no evidence that any attempt was made to make the repairs. The staff also never checked in with us about the issue again. Also, the TVs don’t get free to air because there is no antenna which means you need to log into apps. We had problems with this as we were travelling internationally and a lot of our streaming services don’t work overseas. We also noticed that there was no sense of generosity, for example, the toilet paper was one ply and the grab and go breakfast had no tea, coffee or toasters to heat bagels etc. For the price we paid we wished we had chosen to stay at a big chain where the amenities are better and there is a greater sense of consideration to guests comfort. On a positive note, the beds were comfortable and the rooms were very clean. The hotel is also in a great area if you are looking for cool restaurant and cafe culture. It’s also walking distance to SOHO, so great shopping :)

When you walk in, it looks very funky, after which everything is excellent. Extremely helpful staff, very clean, unusually large room for NY at this price.

Interesting history but we paid for the suite and there is a club right outside that played loud music until 3 am. There was only one person working at the hotel and when we got there a little early we already had a text that the room was ready and code to enter, but were told we had to pay $75 more if we wanted to go to the room early. If the one staff member left the front desk there was nobody else around to help and no security at all. Already mentioned all of this when asked to leave a review and was told that they don't have a sound meter to document the noise of the club. There is no way that would not be obvious.

We loved the hotel. It’s a little older but the rooms were updated. Loved the balcony and the view of the city. Elevator is a tad slow. New Yorkers like to use their car horns.

AMAZING boutique hotel in the heart of the LES!! More than welcoming staff who took the time to let us know about the history of the property and what the hotel had to offer. The room was huge and comforting with a great view! We'll definitely be back!

The place was desolate - we never saw any other guests. The cases in the windows held a sad assortment of cookies that looked like they’d seen their better days.

"We were incredibly excited to stay at the Blue Moon Hotel on Orchard Street for my birthday weekend, having admired its history and location for years. However, our experience was severely disappointing. We initially booked through a third party but had to contact the hotel directly to upgrade to a junior suite with a king bed and a twin bed for our daughter. The hotel quoted us an extra $XXXper night. Upon arrival, we discovered that the "twin bed" was actually a chair that was supposed to convert into a bed. Not only was it not set up, but there was no bedding provided. As our daughter ended up not staying with us, we requested to be moved back to the original room we booked. The weekend staff was unhelpful and referred us to the manager, who was unavailable until Sunday at 11 am. When we finally spoke with the manager, they were incredibly rude and refused to refund the $60 upgrade fee or offer any compromise. Beyond this, the accommodations themselves were underwhelming. We were constantly disturbed by the sound of doves cooing outside the window, and the noise from the street traffic was significant. Moreover, it took an excruciatingly long time to heat the water for a shower. Based on our experience, I cannot recommend staying at the Blue Moon Hotel. The lack of customer service, coupled with the subpar accommodations, made our stay significantly less enjoyable than we had anticipated."

Know that they are 100% serious about no changes. We were unable to take our trip because my husband’s knee blew out the day before our trip. I called the hotel and they absolutely refused to let us reschedule for a later date. They first made us call Hotels.com to call the property, so I also had to spend the time on that. My bad because I should have gotten insurance, but I was really disappointed they wouldn’t let us reschedule even with a doctor’s note.

We had a great time at the Historic Blue Moon. Not your regular kind of hotel - there’s been a lot of love in creating this unique place. Friendly, fun and interesting owners and staff. Highly recommend staying here!

The staff was very friendly and accommodating. David is from the neighborhood and had great suggestions and help with directions. I loved the room. It was comfortable and big enough for 3. The balcony was a plus to sit outside and enjoy a coffee in the morning or a drink in the evening . I’d stay again .👍

LOVED how every single person we spoke with was totally committed to our comfort. There were a couple of technical issues (the fridge was leaking) and they fixed it immediately. They checked on but were not overbearing. They were incredibly friendly but not overbearing. The room was lovely and I would 100% stay there again.

Really a charming hotel that the owner has filled with creative and interesting historical items. Wonderful location for the Lower East Side.

Bummed that I didn’t get the balcony that I paid for when buying through Expedia but otherwise nice stay. It was cool that the hotel had so much history. Also a great location.

Beautiful historic hotel in a great area close to everything, amazing room and very good customer service

Cool old property in a super-hip area, rooms nicely renovated and comfortable. Service was slightly random, but we had a great time.

This hotel is the actual definition of hidden gem and it really is, the moment you entered the hotel it really transport you to the era cafe shop in the front restaurant in the back the rooms are very comfortable they all have balconybut ypu have to share them but inguess i was the only one using it, but there's one room that really was jaw dropping and that is 603 if your are a couple or a single adventurous this room wont let you down it's big and spacious the balcony is very spacious hope they put the patio furniture soon. Now the service i work in the hospitality business for 25+ years and travels the service that mister David Del Valle give me was beyond since the moment you enter the hotel this great gentleman greets you with the warmest heart if you need directions or recommendations on anything specifically bagels or iconic thing in lower east side he is your man to go even to talk to him was good, you also get to meet the creator of this masterpiece Mr. Settenbrino he is always there on the weekdays to show you around and tell you the stories his wife make the most delicious cookies in the word and they are big. This hotel is close to everywhere like the subway,Chinatown,Little Italy, Wall Street Tribeca, Soho you named it so many bars and restaurants around it so glad i came to this place and will be my to go hotel for now on thank you david again for everything. P.S. The bagels where really good Gracias.

We appreciated the beauty of an historic hotel. SOOO unique. We felt very safe with the security. ALLL staff were quite helpful. The variety of fresh foods/sweets was fun and tasty HIGHLY recommend staying here

The room was large, clean but best of all the staff was friendly and made the visit great. The cookies and desert made in the restaurant are to die for..
