Pestana Vintage Porto Hotel & World Heritage Site

Great property right on the Douro River with views. Staff was very friendly and helpful, but seemed overwhelmed by the number of guests. For example, it took an hour and 3 phone calls to get our luggage brought up to us. Elevators are few and slow for the number of guests, so long wait times. Room and view were beautiful.

Great hotel, especially the staff! Breakfast spread was fantastic and you can't beat the location. Do note that private car pick up or drop off in front of the hotel is not allowed which is inconvenient. Otherwise, the place is perfect!

Beautiful property right by the river. The customer service is excellent. The front desk staff were very friendly and helpful. The buffet breakfast was very impressive. We especially enjoyed Vinology with the port tasting and river views. The restaurant bar was equally excellent and bartender Raquel Santos went way above and beyond in providing a personalized experience.She explained the mixology of different cocktails, variety of Portuguese wines the region prides itself of, etc. Our room was very comfortable and the views from our window of the river and unique architecture of the buildings across in the district of Gaia was fantastic.

Great location. The staff were very helpful and friendly. Enjoyed drinks on ground floor terrace, the perfect people-watching spot.

Superb location and views. Internet connectivity is patchy and hotel doesnt allow chromecadting, leaving very few options on TV for non PR speaking visitors like us.

The hotel is located in a historically protected area and you cannot bring a car. The hotel / Expedia must be very clear that having cars do not work with this hotel in summer time at least. There are two city parking lots nearby but they are full and cannot be used. We had to park 20 minutes away by car and get an Uber to go to the hotel and pay 15 Euro daily to park the car.

Wonderful staff and good food. TV movies and wifi did not work. Desk chair broken. Sink and shower drain did not drain well.

Staff was rude, they put our friends in a basement room when she paid for a superior room. All 4 couples had to request different rooms. Plus they overcharged all of us. The hallways smelled terrible and the Hotel itself is poorly designed. The only great thing about its on the River.

Staff was very attentive. The room was super clean. Overall great experience. Highly recommend. Hotel is in walking distance of everything in Porto. The city center, the river, the nearby shops and museums.

We were happy to receive a complimentary bottle of wine. We were initially given a super room on the 5th floor, but because it smelt strongly of damp, we requested a different room. The hotel dealt with it quickly and found us a clean slightly smaller room on the 4th floor

Not 5 star. Dirty old stained .. outdated rooms and lobby. not well lit . Dark in hallways Old furniture w/stains. Bathroom shower head fell out of the wall on while showering. extremely disappointed Not recommend

Recepção atendentes super educados estão de parabéns, quarto com varanda vista maravilhosa, localização otima,cafe d manhã maravilhoso,porém unico defeito foi o banheiro da minha suite, pessimo, quarta fedia a esgoto,cheiro ruim vinha d banheiro, água super fraca, papel higiênico de pessima qualidade, secador de cabelo nao secava nada enfim, mesmo com esse pessimo defeito eu recomendo hotel..

We (couple) chose this hotel because Baedeker describes it nicely, because of the 5 stars, because there were many good reviews. Our conclusion after three nights: far below the 5-star level. (1) Our room had a permanent problem with a stinky sewer smell from the bathroom: it stank so badly that we had to sleep with the window open (i.e. noise). Other former guests (Giles 2023/03, Marc 2022/11, Phil 2022/11, Nigel 2022/11, Dominique 2022/11, Nick 2023/11, Robyn 2023/01, etc., etc.) reported similar experiences. We reported the stench after the 2nd night and the solution suggested by the front desk manager no longer made sense. (2) Room amenities, bedding, hotel general condition, breakfast were at a good mid-range level but nothing more; everything was very clean. (3) The staff was moving around a lot, but didn't know exactly what to do. Fortunately, the next leg of our Portugal trip is a real 5 star hotel and we can enjoy this beautiful country.

The room was excellent, the staff were great, and the location was perfect with absolutely no noise. Unfortunately, while I was having breakfast, a large roach walked across my table. I ran out in shock and didn’t return to the restaurant. The staff apologized and promised to send breakfast to our room the following day, but it never arrived. It wasn’t a major inconvenience, but seeing a roach walking between my plates and silverware is, in my opinion, completely unacceptable.

The hotel staff were welcoming and helpful. They provided a personalized tour and explanation of the hotel history and amenities and helped us with our luggage to our room. We upgraded our room to a river view. Certainly more money that I may cry about later, but it was lovely to look outside the small balcony window and sip espresso while looking at the morning riverside peoples, boats and and scenery. The room we had was large with a king sized, comfortable bed. There is a safe in the room as well as a very nicely appointed bathroom. The breakfast included with the stay was very fresh, well presented and offered many many options. The ala carte eggs Benedict was very tasty, along with yoghurts, various breads, fresh fruits, cheese, cold cuts, sausages, bacon, etc. a superior offering to some other 4 star hotels was stayed in. The staff were helpful, although a lack of check out itemized receipt did result in some confusion around charges to our room. This is not only an issue with this hotel but others we stayed at in other cities in Portugal. The hotel was nice enough to arrange a boxed breakfast for us for when we checked out for our flight at 3am. They arranged for a transfer to the airport. A good service to have that offered piece of mind. Somewhat of a con: the property is in a heritage zone. Ubers/Bolt/ car traffic unless with a permit cannot access the hotel. The staff will meet you near the property to help w/ luggage though.

Great location, good breakfast and comfy beds. But the walls are paper thin and you will literally hear your neighbors snore and anyone in the hallways every word. The windows don’t open - we were sweating every night. Finally after 3 days of complaining to the front desk they fixed the air in the room on our last night. This was a major bummer - as nobody seemed to have much of a care for customer service. If you are all about location this is your place but other than that look elsewhere.

Very cool hotel but our room was so tiny we couldnt even have our luggage out. No desk/seating area, not even a trash can in the room other than the one in the bathroom. For a $400/nt room this was SO small. You could barely walk around the bed and the windows looked right at another building. Definitely not worth the price. Staff was nice. Buffet breakfast included was poor.

The location was great! Right next to the river and restaurants and activities. Breakfast buffet was good, with out door and indoor seating. Service at the restaurant and hotel was mediocre. Our room was very dark, not enough light fixtures and had an unpleasant smell of humidity.

Fantastic riverside location. We had spacious room with lovely view. Food fine without being anything special. Bathroom three star, and shower was merely a shower extension which slotted into wall at head height above bath: shot water horizontally!

The only critique is that the shower/tub would be difficult for an older person.

Best place to stay in Porto, balcony to the river, very romantic

The property was in an ideal location on the river. The view from our room was beautiful. The staff was very friendly and the room was clean and nicely appointed. I would definitely stay here again when I’m Porto. The breakfast was very nice, although you the staff were a little disorganized. You had to be be on your toes for service.

We were on a river cruise, and had a transfer from ship to hotel. Car couldn’t reach hotel due to traffic. So driver had company contact the hotel. So when we arrived at top of street, hotel sent 2 guys up hill to get our luggage! We thought that was so nice and wonderful that they, diver and hotel, took the extra service and helped us out! We really appreciated this extra service. Hotel was wonderful to stay at and helpful in every way. Thank you

Great location and beautiful property. Check in staff was efficient, but not necessarily friendly. Outside bar staff not very friendly. Service staff, help with bags very welcoming.

I was extremely sick for the few days I was there and Diego the night manager was extremely kind and made me tea in the lobby when I was having coughing fits and couldn’t sleep. In addition he put notes in my folio notifying the staff about my condition. The morning clerk then suggested a hospital close by to get antibiotics. Service is above and beyond at this Hotel.

Check in was extra long and not welcomed upon arrival. Paid for stay at the reception-it looked like the right amount (that is-expensive). At check out, told that was not charged the right amount at check in and needed to pay more. Unacceptable for a 5 star hotel. Needed to rush to catch a train and told I could not leave until paid additional amount. Bad experience.

Great location and great breakfast but staff were not very friendly. When checking in, reception staff were surly and didn’t even say anything about welcome to the hotel etc… Breakfast staff were also not very communicative. We had just spent a few days in Lisbon where staff were so friendly and helpful in contrast to Pestana Vintage were staff were not very friendly or helpful. Staff just need to be trained to ensure they are friendly when talking to clients. We ordered drinks from the reception bar and were waiting when another member of staff came to ask what we wanted. When I said we have ordered with the other member of staff was told he is training and didn’t know what we wanted!!

Everything was wonderful except that it did mot feel like there was much recognition of VIP status. No bottles of wine were offered or room upgrade. We had to argue for the room we orginally paid for and also we were downgraded for the end of our stay. It felt like we paid a lot of money ($450/nt) to not be treated like anything special. $450 is a lot of momey in Portugal. or anywhere..it was disappointing. I think the staff is very nice but they seemed stressed. The management forces them to sell rooms out from under reserved guests. There seemed to be other angry guests. That is not a good way to run business. The rate should be guaranteed.

The property location is special right on Praça Ribeira. Convenient to everything and a beautiful setting by Pinte de Luis I.

Very active area, near bridge to walk to multiple interesting areas. Porto is a vertical city under construction.

Great hotel, nice staff, prime location

The property was beautiful. It was situated in front of the river with gorgeous views. Very walkable. The staff were helpful and attentive. The breakfast was varied and delicious. Overall a wonderful stay.

This has been one of our best stays ever. The hotel is fantastically placed in the centre of the town, on the river and close to all the bars and restaurants. The staff all work extremely hard to make sure our stay is unforgettable. The choice for breakfast is outstanding including sprakling wine if you choose. Thank you for making our stay wonderful

O quarto tem um aspeto de desgaste de utilização. O pequeno almoço é muito fraco: pão seco de estar cortado a horas, bolos a mesma coisa, pouca oferta de charcutaria, queijos tinham mau aspeto. O café é péssimo. O pequeno-almoço almoço é claramente o pior de tudo.

Had a room Douro river, room is clean and housekeeping perfect 5/5. Breakfast was great Isabel is amazing always with a smile. The things that need improvement, asked for quite room high floor was give 2nd floor out of 5 and on top of a restaurant with loud music. Had room service a hamburger and it was horrible. The hotel could let guest with a car in to load and unload and not let us deal with the stress of the non parking on the busy street

The Pestana Vintage Porto is ideally located with many of the historic sites within easy walking distance. The staff in the hotel are professional, friendly and very helpful providing a warm welcome and excellent service. Breakfast is delicious with a wide range of options and dinner in the Rib and Beef is an experience not to be missed.
