Overall, wonderful lodge. Relaxing. Rim trail couldn’t be closer, just a few steps away. Restaurant and tavern are delightful. Canyon view rooms are limited; select yours carefully (and there’s no microwave oven on the premises sans the restaurant’s ). Bottom line - always El Tovar when visiting the South Rim.

Perfect spot, staff on property and restaurant were great. So nice to be “home” after spending all day touring the canyon. And get up for the sunset, walk 50 yards and you’re there!

Hotel itself is a joke, they dont seem to care as long as the location sells itself. Hard to beat that, it literally sits on the South Rim. Hotel wise, all good things stop there, rooms are outdated, no amenities, poor quality sleep, etc. El Tovar dining room is worth visiting, breathtaking views, good food and service. We had both breakfast and dinner there, very attentive service a nicely put together menu, good wine list and cocktails. I'd say, El Tovar dining room and adjacent cocktail bar, yes, El Tovar hotel, a big no.

The room was clean and comfortable, although I was a little disappointed that we were given a parking lot view. Of course, I understand that everyone wants a room with a beautiful view! Fortunately, the scenery right outside the hotel is absolutely breathtaking, so I did not feel like I was missing out by not having the view from my room. The restaurant and bar on the first floor were both excellent. The food was wonderful, the cocktails were great, and the service at the restaurant was especially outstanding. We enjoyed it so much that we ended up dining there repeatedly during our stay. One staff member in particular, I believe his name was Hernando and that he was from Cuba, took such wonderful care of us. His warm and attentive service truly made our stay even more memorable. It was colder than I expected, and I had not brought enough warm clothing, but thankfully there was a shop on the first floor where I was able to purchase a long-sleeved top. The hotel’s location inside Grand Canyon Village was incredibly convenient. We stayed for only one night and two days, but by using the complimentary shuttle buses, we were still able to see everything we had hoped to see. Overall, we had a wonderful stay and would love to return someday.

Best location on the south rim. Walk out the hotel and the rim is right there.
