Blackwell Hotel

The Blackwell Hotel is a special treat. This historic building is a unique option in the heart of Coeur d'Alene. The is a beautiful courtyard that was hosting a wedding the day we were leaving, but we got to see the rehearsal and the scene was just perfect! The kitchen area is well equipped with fruit, snacks, coffee, tea, and spiced apple cider (yum!). There is a fridge in the kitchen that is shared, but you can store anything you'd like there during your stay. The main area has a beautiful gas fireplace, sitting area, game table, pool table, and information about the area. The porch has the most quintessential swing - have a go! The room was well equipped with a large TV, king bed with memory foam mattress, clawfoot tub, and plenty of space! We loved the little notes on the walls explaining different amenities. The staff was extremely helpful, kind, and warm. We would absolutely stay here again.

We had an absolutely amazing time at the Blackwell Inn. Check-in was super easy with texts, as it is all self-check-in. They give ample details so we weren’t left wondering about anything. Parking was street parking, though we never walked more than a quarter block, but often was right in front of the hotel. The location is walking distance to everything we wanted and needed, so we barely drove anywhere. But the best part of the Blackwell Inn is the house and the rooms. It is gorgeous and has such an amazing feel. We loved our large room with its super comfortable king size bed and own bathroom. It felt like a small apartment, we never felt cramped. We would stay again in a heartbeat. I can’t speak to the breakfast offered every morning, as we are early risers and we were off before breakfast was offered at 9:00. Though it did smell amazing when we returned. And as it was included, I do wish we would have eaten at least one breakfast. Overall, the only negative I can say is the floor creaked, which was actually charming with the lovely wood floors. We had a fantastic experience.

Such a beautiful boutique bed and breakfast! Played pool, shuffled board, and chatted with other guests. Very walkable - nice shops and waterfront just minutes away. We enjoyed a delicious breakfast before heading out.

Nice old mansion with comfortable and clean room and bathroom. Easy self checkin. Didn’t see any staff until breakfast time and they were busy cooking. Nice common areas with fireplaces, pool table, and shuffleboard table that we enjoyed using. Pleasant and short walk to downtown restaurants and waterfront.

Grand old home with a lovely wrap-around porch and handsome first floor. We got a top-floor room in order to not hear footsteps from guests above us, as I suspect would be the case. With the old wood floors and the marvelous-but-somewhat-noisy staircase, noise may be an issue for some. They host weddings and events in the backyard and a summer Saturday wedding reception proved to be painfully noisy from the very loud and thumpy DJ music for 2 hours starting at mid-afternoon. Nowhere in the house or on the property was the music escapable. But overall our 5-night stay was very nice. Breakfasts were terrific and the staff was helpful and friendly. Great location in a lovely city.

Absolutely gorgeous historic house/property! Great location…nice neighborhood, yet easy walk to main shops and restaurants and lake. Lots of room and storage in well decorated rooms! Says hotel, but it’s really a B&B…with a very nice breakfast and lovely places to sit alone or as a group.

Great use of a renovated, large, historic home. Concept of management and just the right amenities was great. What hotel has a pool table in the lobby? These guys do!

Like the vintage and historical property and the pool table downstairs. Cozy room with a comfortable bed. Nice, tree shaded parking. Breakfast included is a plus!

A great place. The parking was easy to access and the facilities were very nice. The room was very comfortable. My only complaint was the distance from the bed to the TV but it's minor observation.

The hotel is beautiful and within easy walking distance of the lake and restaurants and shopping - there are lovely places to sit outside on the property - just perfect

The bed and pillows were extremely comfortable. The pillows must have been memory foam and there must have been a memory foam topper on the mattress. I stayed for the Coeur D’Alene Half Marathon and this hotel was very easy walking access to the start at Mccuen Park and the downtown strip on Sherman Avenue. Breakfast was tasty and had a decent amount of options. The water pressure in the shower and bathroom sink was pretty strong. Convenient to have an access code on the lock on the door instead of having to carry around a physical key. Plenty of parking. Friendly staff.

No service employees to help after 5:00. Didn’t like mattress Mansion was great.

I stayed in the Blackwell hotel over the last few days. It was quite an interesting experience. I stayed in the carriage rooms that are in a separate building. It's basically like renting a room from someone. Thinking, I was getting a four or five star room, I went ahead and booked it. But I was massively disappointed. There was a wall unit for an a/c unit that barely worked at all. I found a fan sitting in a dresser drawer and had it on the entire time. It was so hot all throughout the day and at night too. There was no iron and ironing board inside the room so I was forced to wear wrinkled clothes to business meetings. The shower showed signs of mold and was really gross. The bed had a huge hump in the middle of it. The wifi was listed no where in the room and when I texted the attendants one morning (which is how they communicate after hours because their entire team goes home) I didnt get a response until that evening. The TV says it's a 50 inch but it's more like a 35 inch from 2003. The one really great positive about this was the location in town close to the downtown shops where I could walk around. Honestly, choose a local chain 3 star experience over this. I can't speak to the other rooms, but Carriage room 9 was not a 4 or a 5 star, but quite honestly probably a 2. I was horribly disappointed.

The rooms are delightful and clean. The ambience is great. The breakfast was pretty good and the service and staff were excellent. The building and its environment feel safe and are an excellent getaway.

Pros: Loved the house and its architecture. In a good location. Very good breakfast in the morning, included with the room. We spent plenty of time out on the beautiful porches Cons: When we arrived we were met with a rather surly woman who was less than welcoming. Our room was cute but we had to carry our luggage up 3 sets of stairs to get to it. Pretty clean room except for some floating wads of someone's hair on the hardwoods. Also the AC in the room was so cold we were freezing and had a hard time sleeping (no one in the house to consult with about it in the evening)

We stayed in one of the Carriage Houses. It seemed that a piece of art or a painting had been ripped from the wall and not replaced, with the hooks still there. The floor was strange, uneven. A handle fell off the refrigerator (which was cute, but difficult to access). The refrigerator door could not open unless we rolled the carpet back. Holes in the wall in the bathroom where something had been attached and then removed. The lighting in our room was sadly inadequate. There was no chair or table, only an oversized couch. The lighting in the bathroom was inadequate. The curtains dragged on the floor. Breakfast was disappointing. The staff was sullen and never welcomed us. The grounds were haphazard - for example, there was an unused longe chair outside our door with the pad rolled up, a handrail had obviously broken on the steps to our cottage and had not been replaced (though a different one had been added to the other side). Two pots in the back were full of plastic flowers. We were disappointed for the cost of the room.

Loved this Hotel . It felt like home. It was so clean and the curved windows so unique. The only little thing was that there should be non slip strips in the tub for safety . Loved the kitchen with snacks and juice . We would definitely stay here again . It was outstanding!!

Awesome B&B. We were on the 3rd floor. Only 2 rooms with bedrooms not in room. We had one of those. Bathroom across the room. A little inconvenient. The breakfast was not as good as I thought it would be. Not bad but could have been better. On the whole we liked it.

Very convenient for walking around downtown Coeur d'Alene enjoying all the restaurants, shops, and bars. Nice historical building holding true to its history. Everything was great except for the clawfoot tub shower. Probably great for a bath but not so much for showering. That is the only thing we would give a lower score for. Easy check in and check out process.

Pros: absolutely beautifully reconditioned 1905 hotel. The room was large and very clean and very comfortable. Bed was great Cons: our room was very good, but to get to the private bathroom we had to walk across the hall to a separate bathroom. Not very comfortable in the middle of the night. The Wi-Fi was inconsistent at best. Sometimes there sometimes not. The breakfast was OK but not too great. Two days of scrambled eggs in the basket, and a little bit else besides that. The thing I hated most was their TV, only Roku streaming. If you had other apps for other streaming videos you can log onto those. We just wanted to watch local news on TV not possible in this place. If you want to take a shower you have to hop over a gigantic tub like you’re lifting your leg over a bike, then you have to enclose yourself so you don’t spill anything out on the floor. A very nice refurnished 1905 hotel, But not a very comfortable place to stay.

Beautiful historic property with great friendly host. Never did get the TV to work. Internet was also very spotty and never did work well. But you are staying in 120 year-old nicely maintained home! And if your room is on the third floor, just know you’re gonna have to hoof it up some steps! I would definitely stay again. One of the more reasonable rates for a room in the entire city also helps! Ideal location just a couple blocks from the center of this very quaint and attractive city.

Nice B&B in a great location. Negatives were the Wi-Fi was poor and the tv couldn’t maintain a signal due to this. The room was very cold and had no control in the room. Breakfast was just so so.

Nice night’s stay at historic home turned into a hotel. Breakfast was basic but good. Stayed in a 3rd story room facing the busier street so there was some road noise. We stayed in early April so the room temp was fine but would likely be too warm in the summer months. Nice grounds. Beautiful lobby and lounging areas. Easy walk to Beverly’s for dinner.

The staff at Blackwell Hotel went out of their way to make us feel comfortable and informed. The service was outstanding, the food was delicious, and the staff was warm and friendly. The Hotel is a beautiful old house with a classic environment. The lobby was warm and comfortable. . . a good place to get some work done or just relax with an afternoon coffee. The hotel is in our favorite area of CDA and we were able to walk to almost any destination we wanted to visit. It is in easy walking distance of parks, restaurants, the lakes, and the library. We definitely hope to stay there again.

Hotel is very charming and common areas are spacious and elegant! Kitchen is open and snacks were nice! It is a little odd having no human presence at the hotel. Not that we have needed anything--it's just a bit odd.

Very beautiful old house, glad to share it. Did not see a single staff member the whole visit. Came 25 min before check-in and was told to return in 25 min. Have never experiences thus before. Then received a text message that there was a payment issue, which was then resolved by them while i did nothing, should have been worked in before we arrived . Not very welcoming. Felt this could have been avoided if i had the information up front that there would be no one on site.

Very charming property. It has a great location that allows for accessing the main drag and outdoor activities (no driving required). It was a very quiet property with a very enjoyable common area (fireplace, couches, and pool table). Breakfast was very good and 24 hour access to free snacks. The staff was only onsite from 8ish to 4ish. The after hours number was not monitored and on the 2nd night there was a temporary water leak from the unit above us, that we had to clean up ourselves. The HVAC was a mini duct system that was very loud and was not adjustable. We enjoyed our stay and would choose the Blackwell again.

Very good location and nice, historic house. We had a very large bedroom with bath across the hall. It was very nice. Our issue is with the management of the B&B. There wasn’t any. In fact, none of the staff even introduced themselves and told us their names. There was no welcome, smile, greeting. You could not check in until 4:00 pm, which is another issue. You should be able to check in by 3:00. You are to receive a code for the door by 4:00 and we did not. I knocked on the door twice, called their phone number twice to get recordings and no answer. Then finally a lady came to door to let us in. She immediately said they just finished cleaning rooms as they had a person quit the day before and their housekeeper called in sick. She said they would send our door code shortly. We received it at 4:45. We sat in our room and had a glass of wine relaxing. It was then very nice. Went to turn on TV and it would only go to one channel. Could not change channels. So at 6:05, I went downstairs to get help and everyone was gone! So I called the phone number again and another lady answered. I told her the problem with TV and she said she’d only worked there 2 weeks and would call the housekeeper because she knew everything. She then leaves me a message saying the housekeeper said unplug the TV and the Roku, plug them back in, turn on TV, hit home button on Roku controller, etc. Didn’t work. Call again and only voicemail. Very upset with on-site B&B mgmt. There isn’t any.

This is an historic house with a wrap around porch, quiet neighborhood and very close to downtown. Walkable to the lake as well. Good breakfast too

A historic boutique hotel in the heart of Coeur d’Alene. Very beautiful, well maintained, cozy and comfortable with all the amenities.

The property was quite nice, however there was a car show/parade that turned right at the hotel. It was very loud and some of the vehicles started up at six o'clock in the morning. Had we known, we would not have stayed there.

This cute picturesque B&B was something from a fairytale. It was walkable distance from downtown and set in the neighborhoods of CDA. This was my first experience with a self check in hotel so that was unique and a bit of a learning curve. I do like the personability of an on-site staff but it wasnt a make or break I'd stay here again.

The ladies there are very accommodating. The breakfast is very nice. The pillows & bed is comfortable. The antique home is a unique experience. The kitchen is open for guests with everything one at home would have with free drinks & snacks. The room/bathroom is very clean. The hotel is walking distance to food & entertainment with super shopping. I definitely recommend this hotel for a pleasant stay in Coeur d'Alene.

We stayed for our anniversary weekend. Our room was spacious, beautiful and had everything we needed. The full breakfast that we were served on Saturday morning was delicious with lots of variety. Sunday morning we had to leave early so we took advantage of the grab and go options. That was a very nice touch! We played shuffleboard and watch the St. Patrick’s Day parade from the front porch. Just a really nice weekend! We will definitely stay here again.

Comfy beds, nice staff, good ammenities and great location. Unfortunately the breakfast was runny scrambled eggs and undercooked sausage, the house was kept too warm, 10pm curfew on any noise was too early especially on weekends, basement tv had no remote to use it, and the lack of tables and chairs set up to use outside was a bummer since weather was gorgeous and inside was too hot.

Great hotel! Loved it! Like traveling back in time. Clean, comfortable, and had a nice hot breakfast!

No TV or internet. Door lock was not working well - problems getting in, other guest helped. No breakfast - was offered $10 off dining at a restaurant preselected we did not have time for. Not ideal!

The hotel has so much character and charm of an old mansion. Everything is close and within walking distance. The breakfast could be earlier. Breakfast at 9 am is a late for people who come to the city for business.

This is a cute hotel. Transforming a historic home into a cute boutique hotel. It is very close to downtown. The staff even through they leave @4 pm are very attentive. They also catered to my husbands dietary needs for breakfast.

Beautiful house and location was great. But…we booked this as an B and B with breakfast provided. No where does it state that if there wasn’t enough guests, they’d send you down the street with a $10 credit at a local restaurant. Would not have booked here if we had known this. The place was a ghost town to having any staff there. Went to go get coffee downstairs along with some snacks they said they would restock for us the night before…nothing. Another guest and I had to look through some cabinets to find more coffee pods and the snacks. Really?!? Never have we had to look for items while staying at a B and B before. They need to clarify the listing with what happens when they don’t have more than 5 guests and the breakfast they’re suppose to provide for you. The breakfast down the street, you’ll end up paying more out of your pocket even with the $10 credit per person. Will never stay here again…sad because the house is beautiful.
