Amazing friendly staff all very helpful . But it’s my fault I should have checked the hotel had a restaurant. It did not and all I was offered was cheese pizza . And no bar . So overall because of this average . I left a day early because of this . But location is excellent car pk very tight if you have a big car be careful . And £9 a day day for parking was a surprise . But staff made up for it.

Seems like one of those hotels that's had its heyday. Obviously once a really good place but time has taken it's toll. Restaurant no longer open, no bar, tired all round. Clean but shabby. That said, reception were very helpful, breakfast was on the top side of reasonable. My room was clean, but very hot. Now air-con, which was fair enough, but no fan available, when requested. Bedroom old fashioned and a few bits in need of attention, but clean. Bathroom was tight and small, but clean, just finished off without care. Car parking was another nine pounds, which adds to the cost. That didn't cross my mind, but makes the good room price seem a bit less so. All that said, I'd probably go back. I do hope it will have some investment to bring it back to its former glory.

Hotels.com should show the true cost of staying here as by adding £9 per night car park charges it increases to overall cost to a less competitive amount! The hotel I usually use in Sheffield is marginally more per night but includes both parking and breakfast! The Rutland is still good value as it is a very good hotel, from the friendly reception to the comfortable room.

The hotel sent an email the day before arrival saying you need passport or photo driving licence to check in. You didn't. No restaurant Parking only for 8 vehicles cost £9/day or on road, one side meters expensive, other side some free spaces. Very limited.

The location is brilliant, dog friendly with lovely walks within walking distance, fabulous and friendly staff, comfortable bed and an excellent hotel for the price. I will stay again!

Nice and quiet area spotlessly clean great staff, if you are a bit uneasy on your feet you should request a low floor room (no lift). Only limited parking maybe room for only about 8 cars 1st come 1st served

Lovely hotel but needs some tlc, the shower cubicle was covered in black mould there was no hot water but the bathroom was clean, the bed was very comfortable again very clean just needs some tlc, I dont think its fair you have to pay £9 for parking this should be included with the room

Hotel staff were friendly and helpful. Rooms were in good condition in general. Bathroom silicone could do with being redoneor thoroughly cleaned as mold is forming.

Stayed here for work. The hotel desperately needs to be updated and renovated. Mould in some bathrooms, lamps caked in dust as well as around the bedding. Although my room was ok the window was surround by mould pores, the bath floor also had bit of mould, the door area was broken and splinted, one of the plug sockets didn't work, no USB charging port, only 2x plugs. if the hotel is able to renovate their rooms, then I think it would do well. I wouldn't recommend in it's current state! The staff however were lovely and accommodating.

Very tired looking and very dusty and dirty. Lots of black mould in the shower, broken floor tiles. Noisy creaky stairs and you can hear the people in the next room.

In need of major refurbishment. Shower looks filthy and we didn’t want to use it. All floors creek and the walls are thin so we could hear radio and conversation of people in nearby room and hear person above getting into their bed. Room was dark and decorated in dark colours of purple and brown with wallpaper peeling off. Room was cold but hall ways very warm.

Dirty bathrooms with mould and mildew. incomplete supply of toiletries. No holder for toothbrush. Have to go and request hair dryer everytime. Rooms either too hot or very cold. Not enough pressure in shower .

The hotel is a number of buildings linked together that are quite dated and tired-looking in places but the room was clean and had everything you needed. Staff were exceptionally helpful and the hotel offers great value for money. Would definitely stay here again.

Stayed for part of the bank holiday with my parents and my family in the Dainton Suite which was nice and spacious as pictured. The rooms were clean and each suite room had its own shower. As there was no AC, fans were provided and it was a comfortable stay. The breakfast was great though it would have been nice to have vegetarian sausage but there were eggs, beans, hashbrowns, juice/coffee/tea, pastries and yogurts and cereals. Fillling and well kept! Above all, the staff were all friendly and courteous- brought charm to a cute hotel in an area quite accessible to the city and Peak District!

No hot water at night or in the morning. Reported at night but as ready to go to bed didn’t want to be disturbed. Expected it to be on by morning but sadly still no hot water and not enough time to report as early start so cold shower. Room absolutely tiny. Just enough room to walk around the bed and nothing else. You’d be unable to sit on the loo if you have broad shoulders as so small.

Comfy beds, friendly staff, nice room, good location. So much good but sadly with slide up/down windows and only single glazing, the noise from people and road outside felt like it was in my room. Such a shame as everything else brilliant but this one negative was impactful enough to prevent me booking again in future as made a good night sleep very challenging to get.

Nice attractive building,convenient hotel, close to shopping, transportation food etc and easy to get to places. Looking a little tired could do with some refurbishment . Bedrooms clean and stocked with everything you need for a stay but ours extremely tight on space and several safety issues. Beds have a wooden base with sharp corners and due to small room constantly bumped knees. Room although on the ground floor had four narrow stairs to get down into bathroom which was a problem as I have mobility issues. They couldn't offer me another room which was a big issue. The front desk staff were very polite and respectful and pleasant but due to the stair issue we will not be staying there again.

I booked 3 rooms 2 were a good size but tiny bathroom and one small room. dated but comfy bed and pillows ( could have done with a spare though). Only real complaints in my room was that the curtains didn’t meet properly in the middle and the small shaft of light unfortunately fell directly across my face. My mum and dad in law booked separately and were in another part of the hotel. the ceiling sprung a leak right over my father in laws head at 4 am due to heavy rain. The hotel did give however give a partial refund. Good cooked breakfast.

The room was very dated and old fashioned. The extractor fan in the bathroom was so noisy. There are no power plugs next to the bed and 2 is not that many- if you exclude those for the lamp and kettle. However, the staff were very friendly and the breakfast was excellent- nice to have a breakfast cooked to order.

Easy to find, convenient parking, friendly reception team / night porter, comfortable bed, decent bathroom and fair-sized room. I didn't spend much time actually at the hotel but my room was VERY hot, which made sleep really difficult unfortunately. The window had only very limited opening. But the Rutland was very competitively priced, and it was still the weekend the next day, so not the end of the world

Friendly welcome from all staff, chilled and calm environment in reception, really pleasant place to sit, quirky layout as hotel used to be a number of houses, helpful staff when we had an enquiry, clean and modern bathroom, comfy bed, extra tea and coffee provided, first stay here but will definitely be back.

When booking directly with the hotel be very careful, as staff on reception do not listen and therefore take your bookings down incorrectly. When I checked out of the hotel, they said I had not handed my key card in or indeed checked out, which I had done, all they had to do was look at their CCTV to verify this. Because they had not checked me out when they should of done, they charged me for that night as well. I only discovered this as i had booked in for a further 2 nights at their reception, which i now wanted to cancel due to a bereavement, however when I emailed them, they said they had no booking for my next 2 night stay, however their staff had taken £160 from my debit card. The manager i spoke to did not want to hear the correct chain of events she was just focused on me being charged for the night i NEVER booked. They took my money for a service i never requested.

Little gem of a hotel, extremely convenient for the hospital. Didn’t think the £9 car park was too bad at all. Was a little concerned from reviews but this hotel exceeded my expectations in every way. I had a renovated room which was warm and comfortable with a lovely modern shower room. Service was excellent from check in to check out. Yes, the corridors were a tad tired but my room was fab. A very happy customer.

For a low end option near the University of Sheffield, this is a great choice as you can walk to the student union in 10-15 mins. Parking can get challenging as the lot is small, and the street fills. Close to shops.

Had an early appointment at Hospital, which is 2and half hour drive for us , so looked for an affordable hotel close to hospital to stay at the evening before . The Rutland was just the job . 5 mins walk away , left the car in there carpark to save parking hassles. Went for a walk in the evening to find a restaurant, there was many to choose from. We have said we would return in the future and have a proper night out in Sheffield.

Lovely central position in Sheffield within easy walking distance of lovely bars and restaurants. We found the hotel comfortable and clean if a little dated. Plenty of hot water a comfortable bed - what more do you need. We didn’t have breakfast so cannot comment on food. Would stay again.

Amazing friendly staff all very helpful . But it’s my fault I should have checked the hotel had a restaurant. It did not and all I was offered was cheese pizza . And no bar . So overall because of this average . I left a day early because of this . But location is excellent car pk very tight if you have a big car be careful . And £9 a day day for parking was a surprise . The room was nice and bed was very comfortable compared to last time. However the restaurant wasn’t open and after a day at work and 3 hour journey for a hospital appoitment this was disappointing. Breakfast in the morning was awful and coffee was cold and sausage undercooked.

Great value hotel near to city centre and university. The staff are always friendly and helpful. The breakfast is basic but always cooked well with vegetarian sausage available. We have stayed here before and find it a good base to stay whilst we catch up with our son who is at the university. My only issue this time was the memory foam mattress took a while to remold after turning over in bed. I, personally, prefer a sprung mattress. Great shower pressure.

I selected free parking when searching for hotels in Sheffield but the hotel charges £9 per day. And one day we couldn’t find a parking space so I think the policy should change. Breakfast was very average and could be improved with more up to date healthy options and non dairy yogurt.

The room was very dated and old fashioned. The extractor fan in the bathroom was so noisy. There are no power plugs next to the bed and 2 is not that many- if you exclude those for the lamp and kettle. However, the staff were very friendly and the breakfast was excellent- nice to have a breakfast cooked to order.

As a Blue Badge holder I was disappointed that there were no disabled parking spaces and a £10 charge for parking. But the lady on reception when I arrived on Wednesday evening and left this morning was so nice and efficient that I was chilled about it

Seems to be stuck in the 90s. The bathroom arrangement meant you could not be on the toilet without your knees hitting the sink. Everything looked tired.

Came up the day before surgery at the hospital, which is virtually next door. I went for surgery at 6.4am and hubby stayed with our dog. had breafast. Car park easy and staff lovely. Made it all a lot easier. Thank you
