Hotel is exactly true to the photos on the website. The rooftop views are stunning. Decor is stylish and captivating, all staff is exceptionally friendly and helpful. I used both restaurants, rooftop pool (which is more like a big jacuzzi), fitness center and I was very impressed with all. The neighborhood can appear a bit sketchy but well serviced by taxis and buses. It is less than 10 min walking distance to the Santee Alley (worth the detour in my opinion). My room was as expected but I found my bed too soft (some would say plush, for me it was too soft). And also, at night, I experienced the disturbance of low bass music from the distance. I could not place it; it went up to 2 am or so and I could not ignore it even with earplugs on. If it could be a disturbance for you too, avoid, the Broadway street side as it might have come from the Belasco across the street.

Everyone at the hotel was great! The minute I arrived and got valet parking, the gentleman made sure my car was charged for when I checked out the next day. Front staff was great as well. Breakfast and pool 10/10. Will be coming back.

All of the staff were polite and helpful. The valet was also quick and good service - it was on par for price with other hotels in the area. The lobby and room was beautiful. the amenities in the room were up to date and functional. The cafe on the ground floor was delicious as well. The hotel advertises blackout blinds and soundproof rooms - I don't believe these are accurate. The blinds themselves were blackout but the gaps on either side of the blind let a lot of light it. Also they have added an extra window to minimize noise, but on Friday and Saturday nights there is a street food festival right next to the hotel that plays music so loud that it kept us up. You can hear general noise and also the blinds of your neighbours being pulled up and down but we didn't mind that. We were going to use the pool, but it was connected to the roof bar/restaurant and that put me off using it as it didnt feel very private.

The hotel is simply gorgeous! The design and decor are breathtaking. The room was so pretty, clean, it smelled nice, the bed was the best part super comfortable and cozy. The service was ok from staff at the front desk and the evening host at the Cara Cara rooftop restaurant, definitely needs a little improvement in that area. The gentleman that checked us in was the only one at the front desk to be friendly and helpful with us, I wish I would remember his name. He gave us an early check in and an upgrade. The housemen and waiters at the rooftop restaurant were exceptional, awesome service and very helpful. Will definitely recomen staying at this awesome property.

Staff was outstanding, including (but not limited to) Kendra (housekeeping), Amber (front desk), security, many doormen (and women) and valets. All were very friendly and helpful. Bathroom is spacious with excellent shower. Convenient location in downtown LA. Gym needs an elliptical; I had to go to the John Reed gym two blocks away to use an elliptical machine. Bed was comfortable, but the mattress was a little too soft for me. Room was a little too dark.

Roof top is a lovely place to eat a delicious meal. All the staff were extremely professional and made sure my stay was very pleasant. Specially drinks a huge plus. 2 minute walk to Belasco where I went to an event.

I booked this hotel instead of the intercontinental because of its rave reviews. I get that it is a historic building and very artistic, but the rooms are very small. So small that we didn’t know where to put our suitcase to keep it out of the way. We felt cramped. We booked the preferred guest level which is a room upgrade. We were in for a meditation convention and we are chill, just saying, charming at the sacrifice of comfort.

This hotel was absolutely wonderful. Great for a staycation. The staff was incredible, from the valet to the waiters and security. Issac the receptionist was soo warm and welcoming. Everyone was so helpful and welcoming. The hotel itself is beautiful and the restaurants have wonderful decor. The rooms are just the right size and are wonderfully decorated. The only thing I did not fully enjoy was the food, but maybe that’s my limited pallet haha. My wife enjoyed everything! Also it was our anniversary and we were pleasantly surprised when we came back from dinner to find a desert plate and letter in our room. This was a great touch and the cherry on top of a great stay. Also the restaurants are on the pricey end but the views from the rooftop restaurant and bar are worth it alone. We will definitely be coming back.

Great trip, staff were very on ball as our flight was delayed first by 12+ hrs and the staff adjusted our booking based on an email but they also rolled two reservations together so we didn’t need to change rooms part way. For me both those are signs of a special hotel!!

We love our trips to downtown and staying at The Proper. Service, food, hospitality and rooms are consistently top tier. The only issue we had was upon checking out we asked the front desk to hold our bags and they were left in the open until we returned from lunch. At that point staff had placed them in the lost and found. We were informed that the staffer didn’t properly check our bags in. Fortunately they were safe but we did worry they were lost for a second while they were located.

This hotel exceeded my expectations. I was a little concerned about staying in DTLA but The Proper is located in a safe neighborhood with plenty of dining and shopping options. The hotel staff are incredibly professional and friendly. Rooms are clean, modern and chic. Make sure to bring a swimsuit and check out the rooftop bar area. Highly recommend this hotel.

I’ve stayed at the Proper in Austin, TX so when I booked this one I had similar expectations: stylish, hip, cook vibe, excellent service and well designed. Well the Proper in downtown LA delivered on all fronts with the huge exception of its location in downtown LA. The surrounding neighborhood is scary, boarded of businesses, lots of homeless, not a neighborhood one could walk around in. I wish it was in a better location. Loved the hotel, not the location.

We had the most wonderful stay at this property. Made a last-minute booking and so glad we did. Beautiful boutique room, incredible rooftop restaurant and bar, mind-blowing and original cocktails and food, and service that sets a new standard. B’teal at Cara Cara was gracious and welcoming and Frankie made the best recommendations for food/drink. I have not been this excited about a cocktail in ages. The flavors of the food were so good. Can’t wait to go back!
