Sunset Condominiums

We loved this property and wish we had more than one night. Baggage delivery is great since the property is so far from the ferry and downtown. Advice; make sure you have ID on your baggage or it won't be delivered to your room (we found out the hard way, but the emergency line was able to help us find the baggage tent which was not far away). We hope to stay here again.

This is the cheapest place I found on Mackinac Island. It was half to way less than half of any other place on the island. The Grand Hotel is over $1000 per night. The catch? It’s 2 miles uphill from the boat docks. And I mean uphill. My wife took the shuttle and the horses had to rest twice going uphill. I had my bike and had to walk it twice. If you bring a bike you have to walk it or ride it on the island. The shuttles and taxis will NOT haul your bike. The place itself was good enough. A couple light switches and locks didn’t work and no A/C. But for the price it was a good deal. And it’s right next to the Inn at Stonecliff which has several restaurants and a general store.

The staff at the property was very helpful with baggage transfers from the ferry to the condo and from there to the Grand Hotel .

We had an absolute amazing stay. We didn’t touch our luggage from the time we boarded the ferry. They brought it right to our room and were super friendly. We decided to walk down to take in the views but there was another option to not walk and have our luggage handled for us again. I highly recommend this place. They also had a pack n play which was amazing for us we forgot ours lol.

The inside is nice, cozy and clean. Love the sunset view from deck. Enjoyed the horse and buggy ride from town and back. Helpful porter. The draw back: it’s our first trip to the island and came without knowledge of how the bags are handled upon arrival since we arrive much earlier than the check-in time. We called the condominium and received minimal instructions- good enough to further ask for help from the dock porters. They are very helpful. However, we enjoyed our stay in the island and in the condominium. We hope to return.

This condo was tucked in the woods a mile from the dock The horse carriage took us to the condo ,a $10 fee..Our room was clean, shower had plenty of hot water. Nice balcony with a table. We were happy with this experience. We would recommend taking beverages and snacks. Loved walking the state park, boardwalk and eating at Gate House patio.

Nice place in the secluded area of Mackinaw Island. The unit had all the basic amenities and adequate for - night stay. Easy check-in and check out with the luggage n porter

The only two things that were inconvenient to me were the absence of a tub mat (I know most places DON’T offer them, but the tub was still incredibly slick - even before running water in it) & the inability to rent bikes right from the property. Otherwise, everything was clean on the interior & served our purpose perfectly for one night.

It was a lot of bugs on the ceiling, bed skirt is dirty, fan on ceiling almost fall off when you turn it on,this place could be awesome if someone give some love to it .

The condo was very clean and the bed was comfortable. Everything worked well and the area was very nice.

We stayed here for one night on our honeymoon. When we got there, the temperature in the room was over 80°. For comparison, it was only 72° outside. There is no A/C, which is partly my fault for not thoroughly reading the description of the room but was also not clearly stated in the description. Our mini fridge had black mold all around the seal. There were quite a few black hairs in our sheets when we pulled back the covers. And there were very large noticeable visible lumps in the bed. So overall not what we were hoping for on our honeymoon. It’s also quite far from town which can be a plus or minus depending on your goals while on the island. Hopefully they can update their rooms a little bit and make sure that they are kept cleaner. Otherwise I’m not sure that we’d stay here again.

My room was ready and available earlier than it was stated. I walked into a very clean fresh smelling room that looked gorgeous. I spent a lot of time sitting on my private balcony enjoying my view of the woods and the lake and the bridge. It was nice having easy access to the bike and hiking trails in the interior. Being away from the hustle and bustle and noise of downtown was even more welcoming. The check in and check out was very easy with text messaging. And I had no problems so I never did have to get in contact with anybody. I will highly recommend this place to all my friends and family who want to enjoy the other side of Mackinac Island and not the town side.

Horrible experience upon arrival at site. Stains on 'clean' towels and window curtains, paint job on toilet seat dated, clock provided not working, patio door lock broken, shower drain slow and builds up water, toilet flush pressure very low. I rarely ever leave reviews. This property is not worth your money. Everything is outdated or dirty. I do not recommend.

Nice quiet stay on mackinac island. Room was nice and clean and updated.

This is a lovely wooded setting that could be so quaint and cozy but the room I was in was dirty (potato chips stuck in the couch cushions, for example), the window was broken and wouldn't close after I opened it, the toilet barely worked and a VERY loud alarm went off in a neighboring unit at 6am making an unbearable high pitched sound for 20 minutes. The room was not well cleaned or maintained. I only stayed one night even though I paid for 3 nights. It was too uncomfortable and dirty.

One of the most unpleasant lodging experiences ever. The lack of air conditioning made it especially unbearable, as it was 84° in the room the first day and because we mostly relied on walking everywhere we’d come back to the room exhausted and sweaty with only a loud box fan for relief. The room also smelled - musty/moldy. We bought an air freshener which helped a little. The view from the patio was beautiful, and it felt better on the patio than in the room, but the height of the railing meant that sitting on the patio completely obscured the nice view. The screen to the patio was torn, so while leaving the screen open was the best bet temperature-wise, it let bugs in, including the huge spider that was on the wall when we first arrived. The toilet continued to run and run and run after flushing. The faucet was difficult to use - took all your strength to pull up. The shower was good. The room was outdated, a mini fridge (not at all the bid condo kitchen pictured). The location was incredibly inconvenient to everything, and walking was unpleasant as you had to dodge bikes and horse manure, both of which were everywhere. We left a day early and were just very disappointed, and were offered no partial refund or recompense when we called to let them know. To be avoided.

The room temp was 80 when we arrived, no switch to AC from heat.

Thin walls and no ac other than that it was nice

Condos were supposedly recently updated but seem dated unfortunately. Also paper thin walls. Staff were nice enough. There is no A/C. Can open the windows but our unit was ground level so didn’t feel safe leaving them open all night, and can smell cigarette smoke. Prob would not stay here again. It is cheaper than other places on the island though.

One day WiFi was wery bad. We have short hot water.

We loved the location of the condo, beautiful area! The condo had plenty of space, and was very clean and quiet! Be prepared, it is pretty far from downtown, the horse shuttles and taxi are a great ride and good way to see the island, plan around their schedule! It is a 30+ min walk. We would go again, loved the area and the island.

Nice place to stay with a beautiful view off our deck. The staff was so helpful and friendly. The detailed information about luggage and the amount of help we received for everything we needed was great. I would definitely recommend and stay again.

We loved the scenic property and easy access to the shuttle. The staff was helpful and friendly. Our only regret was our neighbors were loud and the father used foul language toward his children. We had to turn on the tv to drown out the noise.

I had a last minute family health emergency come up and also realized the hotel was booked for the wrong date. Manager was completely not sympathetic and would not allow refund despite the circumstances. Will not book with this place again.

We always search for pet friendly accommodations, and halfway through our stay the management moved us because we have a pet. The room they moved us to was terrible, 85 degrees, extremely lumpy bed that hurt my wife’s back. No plates, silverware or glasses/cups. And to add insult to injury they charged us $75 pet fee, non disclosed on our reservation acknowledgment! Additionally be careful what room you get! The first pictures on the website show a lake front room, but we got a forest view.

Managed by Mackinac Resorts, bad communication, organization, staff probably working on the cheap, do minimum & don't follow up and insulted me saying I probably couldn't remember the 4 digit code that never got texted to me that was promised. scant info. Sheet in room says must call night before to reserve seat on taxi which I did but they don't take names or room numbers so it was filled with people who didn't reserve. Guy told me to call for new taxi myself and now an hour later still waiting. There's nothing here but construction, no facilities, food, whatsoever. Buyer Beware -they opened for business before being ready & seem to care nothing about guests.

This place has its ups and downs. Really cool area and nice view from the deck. It was a little difficult checking in and the person who helped me on the phone was rude. Although this probably isn't a problem too often, there is no air coditioning. Also, getting there with your luggage can be a problem. It's far and a pretty strenuous bike ride. You can take a horse and carriage, but thats very expensive.

supposedly we were to be met at the dock by a representative ..... no one showed up .... we were supposed to be sent a message text with lock code and info, the message arrived way after we had arrived, and the code turned out to be incorrect .... however, we lucked upon a nice man who helped us and gave us a different code to get in .... the next day when we came back from downtown the door to the room was unlocked and open, nothing was taken .... no locks on the insides of the doors ..... no heat, no A/C .... TV went out and did not come back on until the next day when we were leaving ..... horribly inconvenient location ..... would not stay there again .....

Location was lovely. You are nestled in the woods away from the crowds. The grounds are very peaceful and well maintained. You are situated next to an upscale resort (not affiliated) with a gorgeous view from the restaurant. The other restaurant nearby, The Woods, is also high end dining experience. The condo itself was decent sized and fairly well equipped for basic cooking. I was only surprised that there was no salt/pepper or cooking oil provided in the unit. One thing to note is that there is absolutely no noise insulation between units. You will hear your neighbors, including their pets, as if they are sharing your room. We ran a fan for background noise whenever we were home. After 10pm, everyone did seem to quiet down. We were on the first floor and luckily no one was above us during our stay. Also note that you will need to have a bicycle. We loved being outside of the “downtown” area but without a bike you will have to rely on the shuttle or a taxi which will limit your ability to get around. But if you’re up for being in off the beaten path then this location was great. There are so many great trails and paths to explore and it’s a 10 minute bike ride (down a fairly steep path) to the beach.

Beautiful view. Property exactly what I was expecting. Just be sure guest understand the property is a 45 min carriage ride from town.

The condos were fine; they were just farther from the main district than we thought. Note: get a bicycle or taxi when you arrive!!

The property was decent, but situated on the back of the island. every trip we made to down to downtown we spent about $44 one way. Otherwise the room was comfortable and self sufficient.

I was quite embarrassed to be staying here. It was very basic. The grounds were terrible, no landscaping. It’s hard to find, in the middle of nowhere hidden in the bushes. There were wasps in the bathroom, the bathroom sink was blocked up, and the ceiling fan was falling apart. This place is in dire need of upgrades. My wife and I had to pay $22 each way to town for the both of us. That’s $44 per day extra. Next time I’ll pay that extra for a bed and breakfast in town.

It was comfortable and clean, but too far from the main area, only accessible by a hard uphill bike ride or expensive horse carriage.

Beautiful grounds. There is a hotel on the grounds with a $50 million renovation, a couple of restaurants and a general store…which is good because it is 2 miles from town. It’s an easy 2 mile walk along the lake to town.

Very quaint room with a nice view and quiet area. The only advice I have is do your shopping and stock up before going in for the evening as there aren’t any options for getting groceries or drinks in the area. Very nice condo though

50 minute horse drawn carriage ride to the condo. Very peaceful and The Grand Hotel restaurant The Woods was a short walk. Elegant dining and very friendly staff. Wonderful experience.

Beautiful area but not close to anything. Horse taxi round trip was $20 per person. One restaurant close by. Biking feasible but very hilly on unpaved roads. Walk into town was more than 2 miles which is fine in nice weather. Room was nice with frig and microwave, balcony, comfy bed. The island is not senior friendly and expensive. Budget accordingly.

We definitely enjoyed staying at the Sunset Condo. It’s a small room but can’t beat the price. Since it was our first trip to the island we didn’t realize how far it was from the town. We were too tired to bike back to town for dinner and didn’t want to spend $40 for a taxi. Instead we spent our money at The Woods. Good choice just expensive!

The room in the condo was pretty basic, but it was close to the Woods restaurant, so that was very convenient.

This was a roller coaster of a place to stay. There is a shuttle to take you to and from town, but it was not posted that it costs every time you use it. The photo’s advertised are a rare possibility of getting that exact room. Was not advertised properly. Scenery was perfect if you want something more quiet and relaxed setting. Wildlife could even come up to your patio! The staff were always friendly and easy to get a hold of on phone calls with issues. I even had a bike that needed repairs and a worker loaned me a bike to use for the meantime. The shuttle would deliver your luggage at no cost, but do not be in a hurry. We arrived to our room at 4 pm, did not receive our luggage till 7 PM. Negatives: there is no breakfast offered, so you are responsible for either A, spend easily 40-50 dollars for breakfast just for 2 people, or B make your own breakfast in your room. Every single morning we made our own breakfast running a small table top griddle. Every morning, we would lose power. Room was not what is pictured or described, so be ready for anything. We will not be returning here, mainly it was too expensive to even get to and from town from there. There is a restaurant up by the condos, but it is definitely way to expensive compared to restaurants in town. If you want to get away from the action and noise from the town, this is a wonderful spot. There are walking trails around the property as well. Overall, it was okay but not great

Though Dunset condos sent a taxi to pick up and take back to ferry, they were not as nice as I would have liked. Too expensive given the 2-3 star rating of the room, no breakfast provided, and no air condition. Lots of construction around property that took away from the experience. I would choose the other inns on the island.
