Resort is clean but is in real need of updates and some added amenities. Onsite restaurant was good but very expensive- a single serve bottle of water was more than beer (and I had asked for tap water but just accepted the bottle) The beach could use a clean up and taking too. Lush gardens and we got to see lots of monkey’s which was cool!

This hotel was OK. We weren’t really sure to expect. This is our first visit of the area. The view from the beach is nice, but the beach itself was dirty lots of trash and lots of rocks. It doesn’t seem to be maintained by anyone more of a very natural state. A room was dated, and our travel mates had to switch rooms when we first checked in due to ants in the room. We ended up having to also switch rooms on our last night because of infestation of ants all over our bed in our suitcases and on the walls and ceiling. Overall, the property seems very dated The grounds are nice, but not as well kept as many places we’ve stayed. Some of the staff was very friendly. Some of the staff was very quiet. Wasn’t really any consistency, but no one was rude. The monkey is hanging out by the pool were probably the highlight of the trip to this hotel. The pool was very nice and accommodating, but we wish they had more chairs as there weren’t enough for our party and the small amount of other people that were staying at the hotel. The food was OK not great and very expensive. However, the complementary best breakfast was wonderful and the staff in the mornings was wonderful every other time we ordered food it took between 45 minutes to an hour and even a simple drink like a Coke or a nonalcoholic drink took a better part of 30 minutes each time overall it was OK, but we would look for another location if we return to that area

We booked the Papagayo last minute after staying at another hotel that was sub par. Our room was great. Spotless, big, with a nice terrace. The property itself is outdated. It is well maintained, but the pool itself gets dirty quickly due to falling leaves. There were not enough sun loungers, and not enough shade. The beach was very nice to walk on, but not the best for swimming. We used the free kayaks on site, and kayaked across the bay 2.5+ miles to the four seasons. Everything at the golden palms hotel was outrageously priced. The food ($28.99 for a burger, cocktails $15-18) was so expensive we walked down the beach to the Marriot El Mangroove hotel, and had gourmet meals for a better price. Hacienda blu was also spectacular and cheaper, just a short walk down the beach. Out of spite we never ate a meal at the hotel because of how expensive it was. The free breakfast was sufficient. Staff were nice and attentive. However, for the price of the hotel, it is too expensive for what you get.

The grounds were lovely, very well maintained and were fully in bloom in February.
