Hotel Belmar, a Member of Design Hotels

This is luxury, from the lavender scented hand towel and ginger lemonade upon arrival to the included yoga class. What a beautiful place and 5 star service. When we were there the hot tub was being renovated so that was unfortunate and we had a room below the restaurant which was quite loud during dinner service. I would avoid those rooms if you have children who need to sleep early.

The property is beautiful in a very quiet and peaceful area. Not much in terms of facilities, they only had a jacuzzi. Beautiful rooms but the floors were much to loud, even when walking barefoot. No AC but it was cool enough to need it. No TV in room so if If you’re not looking for seclusion and connection with your travel partner, this property is not for you. I was traveling with my parents and reserved for 3, they were not crazy about it.

The rooms are very large, with comfortable beds, luxurious robes, scented bath products and a refrigerator with complimentary drinks. The balcony was very nice with a comfy hammock swing to lounge in! The hot tub was most enjoyable too. The food was delicious and the staff couldn’t have been nicer. The rooms and rest of the hotel are very clean. The whole property is just lovely. Views are outstanding!!

First, the hotel itself is quite nice and has a welcoming atmosphere. However, the rooms did not have blackout curtains, which meant we were woken up by the sunrise at 5:50 AM every day during our five-night stay. This made it challenging to get enough rest, and I would recommend that the hotel consider adding blackout options to improve guests' comfort. Another area for improvement was the dining experience. Unfortunately, the food was mediocre and rather overpriced. We found that the prices were on par with those of a five-star hotel, yet the quality did not meet our expectations. We were hoping for better culinary options during our stay. On a positive note, we really enjoyed the tailored tours offered by the hotel. They provided a great way to explore the area and created lasting memories for our family. Additionally, I must mention the exceptional service we received from their massage therapist, Katy Molina. She was truly outstanding and provided one of the best massages I’ve ever experienced. In summary, while the hotel has its strengths, it would benefit from addressing the issues with room darkness and dining quality. Thank you for a memorable stay! ---

We had a wonderful stay at this fantastic hotel right in the heart of Monteverde. Our room was modern and comfortable with amazing rainforest views. The on-site amenities are top-notch - beer garden (with great food and homemade beer), jacuzzi, yoga classes, juice bar - and everything at the hotel is done sustainably. The hotel's own farm (Finca Madre Terra) provides most of the restaurant's ingredients, including the cheeses, and every dish we tried was amazing. As a non-drinker, I was also very pleased by the delicious mocktails. We also booked a Horseback Riding experience at Finca Madre Terra through the hotel and it was a highlight of our Costa Rica trip. We had a fantastic stay. (PS - don't skip the walking path, we saw so many white faced capuchins!)

Hotel Belmar is now my favorite hotel I’ve stayed at. The restaurant is amazing. The vibe there is so relaxing. The couples massage we got there the first day set the tone. If I ever go back to monteverde, Thais is where I’ll stay.

Great property . Amazing restaurant and craft beer bar onsite !

This was a beautiful home away from home. It’s a little outside of town so you definitely need a car to stay there. They have a cute Brewery on site where they actually brew their own beer as well as as a nice reflection pond. Jacuzzi was not working, which was disappointing. The restaurant was really nice. The food was beautifully presented but a bit expensive for what it was. Overall, the grounds and staff were wonderful.

This property reminded us of a treehouse. Beautiful property with microbrewery (closed the day we stayed) and pond. Staff was friendly and polite and offered welcome drink.

Vi havde hotellets bedste suite med udsigt over bjergene, vandet og junglen...det var fantastisk, og så led et flot badekar i værelset hvorfra vi kunne se solnedgangen. Dejlig kaffe på værelset, som skulle laves på gammeldags vis. Rengøringen var rigtig god og der var en høflig betjening, særligt i receptionen. Området var flot vedligeholdt. Dejligt med adgang til en varm jacuzzi. Maden (morgen og aften) var ok men heller ikke mere...og derfor valgte vi at spise andre steder.

This is a nice property overlooking the cloud forest, there will be bugs and etc. property is clean and service as great. There is also a jacuzzi and beer garden and restaurant/bar. There was no tv in my room and the walls were thin - you can hear everything.

Every little detail was absolutely perfect ❤️ the staff was warm, welcoming and kind. The hotel was breathtakingly beautiful. Everything was very clean. The room was much more than I expected. The photos don’t even do it justice. The food was so good, we were disappointed that we couldn’t try everything on the menu. We only stayed 3 nights and that just wasn’t enough to take it all of the perfection that is Hotel Belmar.

Clean-wonderful staff

Very noisy- not just wind as you might expect, but we could hear neighbouring guests talking, flushing the toilet, opening and closing doors. Everytime someone walked up the stairs we could hear steps as if they were in our room. Our room (room 5- cloud forest suite) overlooked the driveway so we could also hear people arriving leaving in their cars. We did not sleep at all the first night due to this and the very uncomfortable bed. Ended up changing rooms. They initially only offered a downgrade room but when I saw availability online for a superior room (peninsula suite) they agreed to move us there. Unfortunately this was only an upgrade in name as the room was so dirty- pubic hair in bed and jacuzzi had hair and insects clogging drain. It is also much more affected by wind, so very noisy at night and quite scary in storms. Restaurant food is very overpriced (over $20 for vegetarian pesto pasta that was way too salty). The brewery was great, so if you have to eat in the hotel, go there. Don't have breakfast at the hotel , lots of better places to choose in Monteverde. Staff were all robotic, though pleasant enough. Would not return to this hotel.

The staff were warm and welcoming the moment we arrived. The hotel is lovely and clearly well cared for. The room was clean and spacious.

Bugs were everywhere

This is the most interesting and beautiful hotel I have ever stayed at. We had the good fortune to stay in both the forest view room and penthouse suite. Such an amazing experience! The customer service is top shelf and the rooms are extremely clean. Not a single bug. The beds are even more comfortable than home and they have so many nice little touches like a turndown service. The bath products are locally made and smell amazing. They have rain shower heads and the shower looks out into the jungle. All good (even coffee and tea) come from their sustainable farm. The grounds are views are just stunning - we spent hours a day walking around them. Not a negative thing to say! Photo is the view from their craft brew restaurant.

We stayed in room 12 (The Belmar Room) for two additional nights in Monteverde to add to our CR vacation. The hotel is quaint and clean with a big house feel. The room had an extremely comfortable bed, it was a nice size with a phenomenal view. The room amenities were a nice touch. It was quiet and perfect with a large flowered bush beneath our balcony with daily visiting hummingbirds. Natalia, the concierge, was great with assisting with our desired activities before we arrived and while we were there. Her local expertise was extremely helpful in facilitating our enjoyment. Celajes, the onsite restaurant, was just okay and well overpriced. We enjoyed the local Sodas much better. I would recommend Hotel Belmar and would love to visit again in the future.

Sensational views from the sunset room, but overall the experience was very inconsistent. The staff were lovely, particularly at the reception desk. But breakfast staff were hit and miss with a very variable experience each day. The room was hot in the day and no aircon detracted from our ability to enjoy the view, as equally the balcony was quite chilly in the breeze. The bath on the veranda is a great idea, but it takes an hour to fill. And frustratingly the floor to ceiling glass view in the room was obscured from the bed by additional somewhat unnecessary furniture which we kept moving, but every day the cleaner put it back. Room service was not available when we wanted to eat during the day. The staff were lovely and clearly trying, and the experience was still enjoyable, it just was very inconsistent and bit tired.

Room 15 was noisy. ( Forest Room) . It’s often windy in Monteverde . Our room door to balcony had a small gap so the wind whistles all night . The furniture on the balcony hangs from chains . As the wind blew occasionally there would be a large bang as the furniture swung too ferociously. Don’t buy breakfast at $30pp. There is a La carte where each dish is between $12 and$ 16 . A dish of fruit and coffees are complementary so unless you go big you will find it hard to get to $30. The views are great but not unique in Monteverde

We stayed 2 nights in room 14. I believe it is advertised as a canopy room. It was amazing, within 10 minutes, we had white face monkeys visit our deck and roof. The view felt like a tree fort and was extremely private. At night we caught an armadillo foraging below our deck. Also, the view to the full moon, was inspiring. The bed was comfortable and the shower was amazing, with 2 rain shower heads. There were also multiple options to laze about both in the room and on our deck. We also took full advantage of the outdoor bathtub, I did hit my head several times on the canopy bed, however I am 6'5". Staff was wonderful! Grounds were well kept, we loved the pond area and surrounding gardens. Everything was very clean. Food was hit and miss, some dishes were amazing such as the risotto & pejibaye agnolotti. Drinks were delicious. They do put fresh flowers & herbs on everything served, although it makes a beautiful presentation, it also opens the opportunity for uninvited guests (bugs). We did try some cookies and smoothies from the juice bar, not a fan. Their tap room & bar was really good in all areas; drinks, beers, food and service. We did not take advantage of a free yoga session but we should have. Breakfast was delicious and plentiful. The complimentary mini bar was an unexpected and really nice touch. I would definitely revisit here and not hesitate to recommend Belmar to future guests.

Belmar was beautiful and tours offered through the hotel were great! Only complaint would be there is a smoke detector in the room that blinks and is pretty bright at night. We had someone come look at it, but that’s just how it is. There is no AC but with the balcony door open (there’s a screen to keep critters out) and the fan on it wasn’t so bad. Because the balcony door needs to be open to keep the temp down be aware that the sun will wake you up early because you can’t really use the curtains.

Nice location in Monteverde and staff were very friendly. Convenient for Selvatura and night tour options. The room didn’t have air conditioning and was very warm during the afternoon/evening. We had a room at the top of the hotel and it was rather noisy during the 2 nights we stayed as the weather was rather stormy. We found there was limited food options in the immediate area.

The mini hike with waterfall was lovely. Breakfast and dinner overlooking the gardens was absolutely delightful. We also had a jacuzzi in our room that was amazing.

Hotel Belmar is beautiful and the views are stunning. There is no swimming pool but the guests have access to a hot tub located in the gardens where you can watch hummingbirds on the surrounding bushes. Our room (Superior Peninsula) was stunning with top quality linens, robes etc and a shower with a window into the bedroom so you could see straight across the balcony to the Nicoya Peninsula. The first round of mini bar was included in the price of the room which was a nice touch. Service on Reception was great and excursions organised very efficiently. We did the early morning guided bird watching tour which was fantastic. We visited several reserves including the hotels own private reserve where we were served breakfast on a platform half ways up a tree in the cloud forest canopy. However, the hotel disappointed when it came to the restaurants. We arrived mid afternoon hungry and were directed to the snacks menu in the micro-brewery - There were only a handful of other customers, but it took 35 minutes to deliver our drinks and 50 minutes after ordering to get our food (despite chasing) and when it arrived we were presented with food so dry it was almost inedible. We ate in the Celajes restaurant on one evening, sadly we felt although the food was perfectly fine, it did not live up to the reviews we had read. In addition, although the restaurant staff were charming, the service was again incredibly slow. On the positive Happy Hour at sunset worthwhile for views.

Lovely property,; the room lack curtains. In addition at a little past 11 am, I was called by the front desk asking why I was still in the room and the person from the front desk rudely hung up on me. The rules clearly stated checkout was noon. In addition, the check-in process is a bit "over the top."

Amazing hotel. One of the best I’ve ever stayed at. From quick responses leading up to the stay, to going out of their way to help me plan activities/meals, to the incredible service while we were there, to remembering my kids’ food allergies the whole time . . . If you’re going to Monteverde and Hotel Belmar is available, grab it. Their activities were equally amazing. We did Nightfall and Santa Elena cloud forest with Daniel, and horseback riding with Memo. Absolute highlights of our Costa Rica trip. My family’s still talking about it. Will absolutely come back to do it all again.

Spot on service planning multiple activities and any changes that were made such as adding another individual and scheduling times to fit our trip itinerary were handled accurately every time. Refreshing to say the least! Extremely warm and friendly staff. Stay in #3, top floor with a fantastic view!

Lovely hotel in a great setting with very comfortable rooms . My only criticism would be the lack of interest at breakfast from the staff who were more interested in chatting or being on their phones than paying attention to customers which was a real shame as the food was lovely

Beautiful room and views of the valley and the breakfast was great. Really tranquil place to stay. Only issued was we had booked transfer form the airport and it seemed a bit disorganised, no one was waiting for us and we just happened upon another driver who called the hotel.

This is nice boutique hotel, nice people serving but quite remote and compare to other places we stayed in Costa Rica, breakfast was not included

This was a gorgeous stay! The canopy room is beautiful. Walking distance from town. The cheesecake in the juice bar was the best we ever had. Stunning views and excellent service.

Beautiful space with friendly, professional staff. Our room was quiet and comfortable with a stunning view. The staff always welcomed us with a cheerful greeting and were helpful in explaining gluten free options while dining. We felt safe walking down the road to some of the shops and enjoyed coffee at the shop down the hill. We highly recommend.

Such a nice hotel in Monteverde! Walkable to town, but hilly on the return trip. We stayed in the Chalet (forest view) - it was quite windy at night but overall such a nice experience. One free yoga class and complimentary beverages in the mini bar! We ate at the restaurant onsite and the brewery, both were great. We also took the concierge's recommendation for the ficus tour at savia - so fun!

We didn’t really know what to expect after booking and were amazed at what we found. The view from our room (#31 and our friends’ rooms next door) were simply amazing. The hotel is high up on a hill with views all the way to the ocean. Simply gorgeous!

This is a beautiful property but getting to it takes nerves of steel. Driving in Costa Rica is a challenge and going to Monte Verde is no picnic! Get a driver and GO see it! The town is picturesque and great food, go to Amigos Bar, oldest in Monte Verde, it will take you back in time to a more simplistic way of life. Pura Vida!

Driving up the mountain to get to the hotel is not for the faint of heart, but it was worth it. The scenery is magical. The hotel is authentic and quirky in a good way. Do not recommend for those with mobility issues.

The room was great as was the hotel shared areas. The hotel charges top end rates - which is fine, but then the evening meal we had in the restaurant was decent but not great (my wife’s dish was not hot). We had a better experience in the tap room the next evening. The options for cooked breakfast are very good but not to be able to have a decent bowl of fruit per individual and put yoghurt, nuts etc on top was a shame.

This hotel was a near perfect luxury hotel. It was beautifully appointed, melted into the ecosystem, had lovely facilities and grounds, and was understated in its luxury. The only area of improvement would be the food. I recommend that the chefs try less to be innovative and more to be consistent in flavor profile and time to table. For example, we sent back several dishes because like the Al pastor hibiscus tacos and the cold eggs with yogurt and oil (Turkish eggs?).

The property is very nice and the room was also very good. The restaurant was very good but had a limited menu. Many vegetarian options. It would have been nice to have changing options or nightly specials. There is no signage to the rough road that leads to the property, this would be helpful for those of you who want to drive in Costa Rica.

This hotel is beyond beautiful and luxurious. The staff are also very nice and helped us book zip lining. We loved the food at the restaurant and taste tasting the beers. Will definitely be back.

One of the best hotels I have ever stayed in. The staff was INCREDIBLE. The views were stunning. The hotel sources most of the food they serve from a local, 100% sustainable and carbon neutral farm, and the food was Excellent. Truly a magical stay.

Such a unique, serene experience. The entire staff was extremely accommodating and friendly. The hotel had so many activities within itself it felt like we didn’t have enough time there!! Our favorite part was definitely the farm to table food experience. Every drink and dish was exquisite. We really appreciated this hotel’s keen attention to detail and the thoughtfulness in everything they do!!
