Our room was upstairs but there were no lights on the stairs, they were burnt out. We did address the issue with the front desk and she said they would put a bulb in but it never happened and it was pitch black even during the day. Room was "ok", very outdated and a little run down. The flooring was bubbled throughout the room. Also, the lights would flicker constantly.

When I first entered my room I was hit by a wave of heat. I opened all the windows in an attempt to cool the room down. About that time I noticed that the thermostat was turned all the way up. Why? Who knows? The shower drips continuously and there is a rivulet of water that runs across the floor in the bathroom. I needed ice for my cooler but there was no functioning ice machine. This may have been a nice place at one time but it has been quite a while since then.

Needs updating and lighting - inside lighting was very dim and virtually no lighting outside. Felt like it was dirty but could have been more that it was so poorly lit that is just seemed dirty.

This is a good place to stay. I was only there overnight and arrived late but the front desk person accommodated me and had my key ready to go. The downside was the ice machine was not working and I needed ice.

Check in was easy, staff super nice and easy to contact by text. Bed was super comfy. Ice machine broke 1st day there, not a huge deal. Need more bathroom shelves and small brooms to sweep. Limited tv channels, but not there to watch tv anyway. Another rug would be nice, cold floors. Nice stay overall.

This lodge is "tired" and needs an update. Thermostat on wall had no cover. Room lighting terrible. Pole lamps at head of each bed and desk lamp bestween beds). The ONLY ice machine was at other end of a block-long row of cabins. You have to dip room's ice bucket into ice reservoir since no scoop is provided (apparently to discourage ice chest filling since bags of ice are sold in office.) Bed mattress was okay, but whole head of bed tilted up when you sat on foot edge. Sheets were thin with some old stains on them even though they were washed. Room's only "sitting" chair was very old and dirty looking. Room has no AC. Not a problem when nights are in 50's but not comfortable during Summer days...plus no method of reducing allergins since no filtered AC. TV options were strange with few popular channels. Sound on TV worse than audio on a cheap bedside radio. Only national news that worked on the "newsmix" channel was CNN. WiFi was totally inoperable. Excuse offered was the provider's link hit by lightning. After I asked, clerk gave us $15 off per day forthe outage. That was appreciated, but we were cut off from email, messaging, etc. nevertheless. We had never been to this area but this lodge appears to be one of the more "worn out" lodges on the strip. I cannot recommend to other travelers. If we return to this area we will NOT pick this lodge. There are other options. Cafe next to lodge is not run by lodge owners and is OK.

We got key to our room. When we entered, room had not been cleaned! It was filthy. They did give us another room. That room looked like they hadn’t kept up with condition of rooms. Grout missing from tiles in bathroom. No stopper for bath tub to take a bath, floors needed a good scrubbing! How can you give a room to someone not knowing that it hadn’t been cleaned if you were the person in charge. I will definitely not stay there again.

Rooms 21 & 22 had bed bugs. See attached photo-unable to attach... It was Memorial day weekend, so no rooms available and offered the second room -21 which was infested too. Only offered refund. We had to drive home which is 3+ hours away. We cannot believe the lack of concern for our granddaughter's bites. We've NEVER experienced this in our lives.

This was the worst place I’ve ever seen. I couldn’t stay there! So they said they would refund me the $441 for the 3 nights I was going to stay and I left! Instead of refunding they charged me another $441! The couch was super old and falling apart. The light fixture for the kitchen was in the floor. The rugs were worn and dirty. The room and bathroom were not clean. The bedding was awful. I’d rather sleep in my truck than in that terrible place which is what I did! Beware

Bathtub had not been cleaned in eons. It was filled with mold. Pot holder on counter was filthy and had mold growing on it. Dishes were dirty (they expect guests to do their own dishes - so guess what, they aren't washed). from 11:30pm to 3:00am there was a serious disturbance with other "guests" involving physical fight with at least 3 men and a woman in unit adjacent to mine. Screaming and fighting and explicatives. Many, many vehicles driving by the cabins ALL night. This place is filthy dirty and unsafe. I cancelled my next night's stay and the owners did refund me that night but charged me full price for the night I was there even though the shower and the kitchen were essentially unusable.

Loved all the trees and quiet. Room was clean, beds comfortable with lots of pillows. Quiet heating system. Only down side was shower head is too low for anyone over 5' tall.

Elkhorn is rustic and old, but that is ok. Although most of the rooms are individual cabins, I was given an upstairs room in a building. The room was hot and had no air conditioner. I could not leave the balcony door open because the screen door did not lock. The room was basically clean, but I’m pretty sure I slept in the same sheets as the prior guest! There was popcorn in the bed between the fitted and the top sheet and between the top sheet and the blanket!! The bed was a bit too firm. The grounds a beautiful with a road down to the river. I saw a large owl fly by my balcony and land on a tree stump!

This is an old fashioned drive up to the door motel with a gravel parking lot. There was no AC but none was needed in the mountains, even in August. It is minutes away from the Cumbres & Toltec train station. The room was clean and the bed was comfortable.

No ice machine, office did not adhere to office hours, cheep coffee maker with only 1 reg coffee bag to brew. Lights dimed and brightened constantly, i asked about it said it was because dryer was running concerning if elec was safe???? Shower head was at my neck level im 5'7". Floors the laminate was seperating at grooves extierior rails and trim peeling paint everything very weathered.

The property is perfectly fine for what it is, the cabin was clean and the facilities were adequate for my needs. However my experience during my “check in” leaves me with some concern for the professionalism of the lodge’s staff. I hope that the owner of the resort has a good talking to the staff that were there that night to hopefully avoid this sort of situation.

I’ve driven by this charming log cabin and log motel room resort on the Chama River many times on my way to Santa Fe over the past few years and always wished that I had time to spend a night there. That opportunity finally occurred a couple of days ago and I made a last minute reservation to spend one night. My years of imagining a stay were not disappointed: the office staff at check-in were friendly and helpful - even offering me a bottle of cream from the office refrigerator to use for my early morning coffee, saying “Just leave it in your mini-fridge and we’ll get it in the morning.” - and took the time to suggest a walk down to the path to the river if I had time (I took the time and it was beautiful). My room was spotlessly clean, charmingly rustic but well-appointed, and cozily warm despite freezing temperatures overnight. I hope that I’m able to stop here again for a longer stay and maybe try out one of the cabins. In the meantime, thanks for a lovely overnight stay!

We have stayed here for years and loved it but this stay was so disappointing I called ahead regarding our cabin and assured we could stay there, nope was put in cabin next to housekeeping and laundry room. I had paid for the full day in advanced I was told that other cabin was available. During our 4 day stay we dealt with dryer exhaust, housekeeping bringing there dogs to work with them . The dogs roamed freely and one came on to our porch and lifted its leg on all the porch beams and our truck tires. Front desk young woman acted like it was my problem when I went to talk to her. My understanding is they have new owners and all I can say is they really need to get a handle on that property or they’re going to lose all of their regular clients

This is an old fashioned drive up to the door motel with a gravel parking lot. There was no AC but none was needed in the mountains, even in August. It is minutes away from the Cumbres & Toltec train station. The room was clean and the bed was comfortable.

The bed and room were clean and comfortable. I enjoyed sitting on the front deck and by the river. I was alone and felt perfectly safe. Nice food and coffee options were 5 minutes down the road.

This property was in its\' prime in the 1970s I think. It is clean with comfortable beds, but deficient in two areas: Plumbing and electric. The shower was a fright, and changed temperature from "ice bath" to "scalding" spontaneously without intervention of the controls. Some electric outlets did not work at all, and all were loose and needed new duplex outlets. Check-in was listless, and the clerk seemed more interested in getting back to a TV show than managing guests. Dining was difficult - most Chama restaurants have inconsistent hours, but we found the Lodge restaurant open for breakfast which was good food and good service.

Basic room looking onto parked cars. No tea/coffee in reception and no water. I asked if water from tap was ok and she said definitely yes. I googled it and it said make sure you boil the water. Small cafe on site but only open on certain days (not at all when we were there for 3 nights) and when open only mornings. Struggled to get somewhere open to eat and night. No service to rooms so had to empty own bins and ask for fresh towels and cups. No air con only a light attached to fan from ceiling and then couldn’t operate fan without having light on. This was great for a "rustic" cabin at a budget price. Not luxurious at all, but that's what rustic cabins are about. Friendly and helpful staff. Beautiful nature in the area, and the train ride nearby is a must. Not much in terms of eateries in the area, so pack a cooler.

This lodge is "tired" and needs an update. Thermostat on wall had no cover. Room lighting terrible. Pole lamps at head of each bed and desk lamp bestween beds). The ONLY ice machine was at other end of a block-long row of cabins. You have to dip room's ice bucket into ice reservoir since no scoop is provided (apparently to discourage ice chest filling since bags of ice are sold in office.) Bed mattress was okay, but whole head of bed tilted up when you sat on foot edge. Sheets were thin with some old stains on them even though they were washed. Room's only "sitting" chair was very old and dirty looking. Room has no AC. Not a problem when nights are in 50's but not comfortable during Summer days...plus no method of reducing allergins since no filtered AC. TV options were strange with few popular channels. Sound on TV worse than audio on a cheap bedside radio. Only national news that worked on the "newsmix" channel was CNN. WiFi was totally inoperable. Excuse offered was the provider's link hit by lightning. After I asked, clerk gave us $15 off per day forthe outage. That was appreciated, but we were cut off from email, messaging, etc. nevertheless. We had never been to this area but this lodge appears to be one of the more "worn out" lodges on the strip. I cannot recommend to other travelers. If we return to this area we will NOT pick this lodge. There are other options. Cafe next to lodge is not run by lodge owners and is OK.

I was looking for a rustic and quiet place to stay for one night after a hectic driving schedule. Elk Lodge fit the bill, Room was clean and quiet. I arrived late in the evening (well after office hours) and my room key was waiting for me when I arrived. Kudos ! The later 11 a.m. checkout was helpful as I was able to go to breakfast in town before checkout. Downside was the office did not pick up the phone during office hours and never did call me to assure me a room and key would be available when I arrived around midnight. The dog in the office made me feel right at home. Made my day petting him on morning before my checkout. I'd stay here again and hope for easier logistics on arrival.

The place is cute. There is no air conditioning. The floor is uneven. Should have been shored up and supported prior to installing the laminate. The tub leaked, the sink leaked. The "mattress" was super, extra, firm. The handles to the doors were loose. Carpet on the stairs was also loose. The staff there were very friendly and accommodating.
