Great location, 5 minute walk to the centre of Ambleside but in a nice peaceful area opposite the park. Free parking is a bonus, friendly and helpful staff, lovely breakfast. Would definitely return :)

Excellent location. Ample free parking. Good sized clean room. Friendly reception staff who explained aspects of breakfast times wifi etc. Room clean lovely large fluffy towels, good quality bedding and very comfy bed. Great stay have no hesitation recommending and will definitively stay again.

A comfortable and friendly stay. Room adequate for our needs but what made the stay was the service provided by the two you ladies present throughout our stay. We had our dogs with us and not allowed in the breakfast room. Could have been an issue but the staff kindly laid out a breakfast table in the lounge. Excellent service.

Rothay Garth is in a great location for walk-in access to Ambleside and for those that have stayed in the area before, they will know that parking spaces are like gold dust. So the on site parking at Rothay is not to be underestimated! Rooms were clean and spacious and the full English was beautifully cooked, so gets my vote. A couple of maintenance niggles in the room but easily fixed.

Very clean room with plenty of space. Bonus of a nice view from our window. It was good thatbyou could use the lounge, conservatory and garden. Imagine in better weather this would be a really nice. With free parking atbthe hotel and Ambleside just a matter of yards away the location is brilliant

Everything was great with my stay. Solo traveller in smallish double room which was perfect for me. Staff were excellent, warm and welcoming. Off road free parking, great night sleep, very good breakfast and just a short walk to the town centre.

A brilliant stay at Rothay Garth. It’s unusual to find accommodation so close to Ambleside centre with garden areas and plentiful parking space but this place ticks the boxes. The building is tastefully decorated and spotlessly clean and our bedroom was a decent size with a bath in the en suite. There is a residents lounge as well so guests have the option of staying in at night if they prefer. The breakfast was very good and cooked to order and it’s nice to have staff helpful and friendly. Would highly recommend this place and will return

Wonderful view. Excellent base for exploring the Lake District. Small car park, be warned on weekends it can be tight, especially if you have a large car and the hotel is full. Breakfast excellent. Staff very friendly and helpful. Only downside - our room could have done with a new shower hose.

Friendly hotel with good location to explore Ambleside. Dog friendly and even though dogs are not allowed in the restaurant they set up a table in the lounge for you so your dog can accompany you and provide table service. Catered to my needs being gluten free and requiring soya milk and even made my decaffeinated coffee just how I liked it. Will definitely stay again 😄 xx

Hotel was dated and the windows in the room were only single glazed meaning there was a lot of road noise and moisture on the inside of the glass. Room was freezing cold upon arrival as all the radiators were off (it was 2.5 degrees out). Upon arrival with the dog, the hotel said they were not aware a dog was coming (despite when I made the booking through hotels.com I filtered for dog friendly, had to pay a surcharge for the room (which wasn't that clean when we arrived). We were then told we'd have to have breakfast the next day in our room! Upon floating around the breakfast area looking for someone to speak to about breakfast, a nice young lad asked if we would like a table made up In the lounge, we said yes please. He said weren't you given this option when you checked in? I said no we didn't. He was a great lad and very accommodating and friendly. Food was also really good! Upo

The hosts were lovely and very welcoming, remembering our names and very dog friendly. The cooked breakfast was great and they were very attentive, the breakfast buffet was a little underwhelming. The room was disappointing, and the pictures on the website seemed deceiving. The decor was very dated, and the cleanliness was sub par. The bath plug was clogged with hair, the towel rail was covered in dust and the mugs in the room weren't clean. The room felt unclean which was a shame.

We only had a short stay but the room was spotless, the bathroom facilities were excellent and the breakfast was second to none, would like to stay longer next time and wouldn't hesitate to recommend this accommodation.

Room number 10.The room was small with little drawer space. The bathroom and in particular the shower was awful and potentially dangerous. On two occasions the water went off whilst showering for two minutes and then came back on scalding my head. I complained to the manager and he said someone forgot to turn something on adding that he would have been furious if it had been him. I showed him my head which was red with the scalding water suddenly coming through. The shower itself was previously one with sliding doors which have been removed and replaced with a curtain which was hardly long enough to stop water getting on the floor causing a slippery surface and thus unsafe The sealant around the shower tray was mouldy and unhygienic. However we are not at all happy and are interested to hear your view on the matter. We feel that we should be compensated for what was probably the worst room and particularly the bathroom we have stayed in

Great location with plenty of parking. Room was a good size with fabulous view. Comfortable bed & very clean. Furniture & decor pretty dated & lack of sockets for use at dressing table. Shower not very powerful. Nice breakfast & friendly staff.

Stayed for 2 nights with my wife. In a comfy room which had been refurbished. The room was compact but unless you were planning to spend a whole day in the room, it was perfect for sleeping and getting ready for the day. We were greeted by a very friendly receptionist who showed us to our room and explained the facilities and was really friendly along with the other staff throughout our stay. Nothing was too much bother and were always willing to help. The room was clean and the bed very comfy and had two fantastic nights sleep. Breakfast was good with quick service. Parking on site and ample. Only a 10 min walk if that to the town itself. Would defo recommend this B&B.

Breakfast was the high point of the stay. Our room was a big cupboard. 6 yards by 3 1/2 yards. One broom cupboard for a wardrobe. No stowage for clothes so had to live out of a suitcase. Hand luggage had to be stored in the shower room. Mouldy window frames need to be sorted. Not an ideal stay for our four nights. We felt like the poor relations. My wife cried on arrival and wanted to go straight home. A nightmare. On the plus side. The staff were friendly and obliging. The location was perfect. In other words, avoid room 6. Highly overpriced for what we had. Perhaps other rooms were better but we stuck it out.

My recent stay at this hotel was an awful experience. We discovered the bed was completely broken on our first night, leaving my pregnant wife to sleep on the floor. This was unacceptable and dangerous. The negative experience continued the next morning at breakfast. A staff member handed me a plate that was dangerously hot. When I pointed this out, she refused to apologize and blamed us, claiming she had warned us—which she had not. No plate should ever be hot enough to pose a burn risk to a customer. Other issues only added to our disappointment: Hairs were left in the bathtub. The broken bed creaked loudly all night. We waited 15 minutes to check in. The room smelled strongly of bleach and had no full-length mirror. Noise from outside the room was constant and loud. While the location was convenient, that was the only positive aspect. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone.

The staff at Rothay Garth are amazing. I had recently had an operation and they changed my room to help with accessibility. Nothing was too much trouble. The breakfast was also fantastic, hot, freshly made and served with a smile. The location is also great for Ambleside a 5 minutes walk into town where there are loads of restaurants and cafes to choose from. The icing on the cake is parking, something which is scarce in Ambleside. We will definitely be going back!

My recent stay at this hotel was an awful experience. We discovered the bed was completely broken on our first night, leaving my pregnant wife to sleep on the floor. This was unacceptable and dangerous. The negative experience continued the next morning at breakfast. A staff member handed me a plate that was dangerously hot. When I pointed this out, she refused to apologize and blamed us, claiming she had warned us—which she had not. No plate should ever be hot enough to pose a burn risk to a customer. Other issues only added to our disappointment: Hairs were left in the bathtub. The broken bed creaked loudly all night. We waited 15 minutes to check in. The room smelled strongly of bleach and had no full-length mirror. Noise from outside the room was constant and loud. While the location was convenient, that was the only positive aspect. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone.

Booked last minute for 2 nights. Can’t fault the staff who were responsive, friendly and accommodating throughout. Particular shout out to Shannon who was extremely personable. Breakfast plentiful and well presented. Beds comfortable. Only thing we could suggest for the future is a larger shower cubicle (we are not a petite couple) and power shower. Will come back again.

Everything was great with my stay. Solo traveller in smallish double room which was perfect for me. Staff were excellent, warm and welcoming. Off road free parking, great night sleep, very good breakfast and just a short walk to the town centre.

Absolutely amazing stay here! The staff were brilliant calling everyone by name. Breakfast was lovely and a great selection of cooked food to order. Could not have stayed anywhere better! Highly recommend and we will definitely be returning! Thank you for a lovely stay x

Great location for Ambleside and the Lakes in general (you can get buses, to other Lake District towns, from Ambleside so can park up and leave the car at hotel). Really friendly helpful staff. Definitely would stay again if in area.

Rothay Garth is in a great location for walk-in access to Ambleside and for those that have stayed in the area before, they will know that parking spaces are like gold dust. So the on site parking at Rothay is not to be underestimated! Rooms were clean and spacious and the full English was beautifully cooked, so gets my vote. A couple of maintenance niggles in the room but easily fixed.

Friendly hotel with good location to explore Ambleside. Dog friendly and even though dogs are not allowed in the restaurant they set up a table in the lounge for you so your dog can accompany you and provide table service. Catered to my needs being gluten free and requiring soya milk and even made my decaffeinated coffee just how I liked it. Will definitely stay again 😄 xx

Amazing location, friendly staff, easy access to other touristic locations. Nice breakfast limited in open buffet, but I think it’s enough with the option of ordering hot food. Love the parking in front of the B&B. We played golf and enjoyed very much. Overall, we had a really positive experience.
