Reservation Canceled—and We Were Given No Warning We reserved the Carriage House at The Copper Swan because it had a queen bed, a sitting area, a rustic and relaxing atmosphere and grounds, and was close to friends staying nearby. A week before our trip, we even received a welcome message explaining where our key would be left if no one was at reception. After driving six hours, we arrived at 6:30 p.m. on a Friday evening to find no key, no envelope, and no one available to help us. We called, left a message, and sent a text. We finally found a maintenance employee, who contacted the owner for us who had just read our message. The owner first said he thought our reservation had been canceled—even though we had not canceled it and had recently received his welcome message. He then told us that a water line had broken and the Carriage House had no water. At no point before our arrival were we notified that our reserved room was unavailable. Had we been told in a timely manner, we could have researched and chosen another property for ourselves. Instead, we were left without accommodations at approximately 7:00 p.m. on a Friday night during the summer in Cape Cod. The owner eventually texted that he had arranged a room at The Blue Dolphin Inn. By then it was around 7:30 p.m., and we had little choice but to accept it. The replacement was not comparable to what we had reserved. Instead of a queen bed and sitting area, we received a cramped motel room with two double beds and a bat

When we go to the Copper Swan Inn, it was 6 PM and no one there, just a note on the front desk with instructions. We assumed there must’ve been an emergency. Our room was on the 3rd fl. Upon inspection of the room the TV did not work so we e-mailed the manager and no response and also called No response. Other guests had the same TV problem. Electrical issue in the bathroom no light bulb in light fixture so we replace it and it burned out immediately. Whoever made the bed did not know how to put a fitted sheet on a mattress. Wood splinters all over everything from exposed beams on the ceiling. Breakfast was supposed to be included, but on the first two mornings there was just muffins. The last day we were there we had an actual breakfast and I met the manager. I told him about the issue with the TV and he said that he responded but he did not. I told him he should be doing a better job running the Inn. He exploded with anger and escalated the situation which I thought was completely unprofessional. He basically said leave the property immediately. $$$ a night I expected better service. Also, the back porch had holes in the floor, and the screened porch had no screens. I like quaint, but not rundown.

The place was old, tired and not as it was made out to be. We paid for a kitchenette and, when we got there, no kitchenette and hardly a bathroom. It was visually in complete disorder. We brought food and luggage and they put us in a room two stairway up in a very small room and indicated that we got the "big room". I have knee issues so I could not make those stairs a number of times a day. I was told they had plumbing problems in the room we originally booked with the kitchenette. We were not notified in advance. Owners said they would refund out money in full. Still waiting!

Unacceptable conditions – do not book! Do not let the good location fool you. The building itself is completely run down and smells of mold. We checked in to a dirty room with no basic amenities like soap, shampoo, or towels. It took management over three hours to respond to our messages and drop towels outside our door. Even after tracking down the owner next morning to complain, the cleaning was subpar, and the garbage was left full. Our room was ignored for the next four days despite requests for service. The property is completely unstaffed, and dirty laundry was left piled high in the hallway right by our door. This was the worst hotel experience I have ever had, and we only stayed because there were no vacancies anywhere else nearby.

We booked a room at the Carriage House at the Copper Swan because the photos on Expedia and the property's website made it look clean, charming, and well maintained. Unfortunately, our experience was completely different. When we arrived at approximately 6:00 p.m., there was no staff on-site to greet us. Instead, there was simply a note with a key waiting for us. We also discovered that we had been assigned a room on the third floor of the main house rather than the Carriage House room we had reserved. The room was dark, dingy, and dirty. There was even insulation protruding from the rafters in several places, making the room feel unfinished and poorly maintained. It was nothing like the room that had been advertised. I immediately called the property's main phone number to report the issue and ask if we could be moved to a different room, but I was unable to reach anyone. As of two days later, I still have not received a return call or any response. The condition of the room was so unacceptable that we chose not to stay and instead left the Copper Swan to find accommodations elsewhere. This experience was extremely disappointing, and I am requesting a full refund because the accommodations we received did not match what we booked or what was advertised.
