The Minnow Bucket

The location is great for fishermen, the boat launch is about 600 feet away on the same property. The cabin was alright but has a few issues. The air conditioner is undersized for the cabin and can’t keep the place cool, The AC unit also was not clean, the vent was pretty black and you could smell the mildew in the cabin. The shower door is not hung right and it is hard to close and even harder to open from the inside to get out. Everything in the kitchen worked as it should, The contact information on the listing is for the previous owner and has not been updated, I know this because I called and text it trying to reach the owner. The front door drags at less than half way open, enough that it is wearing into the floor. I did reach out via the chat feature through VRBO to let the owner know about the AC not keeping up, but still no response and we have already checked out. I did use the chat to ask a question when I booked the unit back on April 28th, and did not get a response until May 11th. This was not the best experience and it is way overpriced for what it is.

The house was dirty, the AC unit was blowing out dirt and dust which ended up getting me sick. The shower has black mold along the bottom and we were welcomed with a woman’s used hair tie in the shower. The hot water wasn’t working in the shower. There were open wires in the cabin where an outlet should have been and dead bugs everywhere. We kept finding them in the bed, couch, kitchen counter top and even in the bowls. This place hasn’t had a review in over a year and now I see why. We absolutely loved Caddo lake but coming back to this house was such a disappointment. It’s also located in a RV park. The host tried charging me 75 for our service dog which is against Vrbo policy’s. Once we arrived at the house the communication with the host stopped. Would not recommend staying here.

Immediately after booking I needed to change my reservation from 2 nights to 1 night. I followed the prompts on VRBO to change my dates and it led me to message the host. I messaged the host who said it was no problem. After our stay, I saw I was charged for 2 nights. I requested a refund for 1 night. The host said he/she purchased the property the week before my stay and would not be able refund me for the night. He/she offered me another night within the following 12 months but I said I would not be back to that lake. It was a one time trip. I finally had to reach out to VRBO and they said the host would be contacting them to initiate the refund. Almost 2 months later I still have not received a refund. It’s even more suspicious that the host that agreed to change it to one night has the same name as the person that said they just bought the property according to the message thread. This issue could have been resolved so easily.

I really enjoyed staying here in the Minnow Bucket. The host was very responsive. The dock and the lake was so beautiful and a very short walk away from the front door. I enjoyed the fully functioning kitchen. It was my first time to come to Caddo Lake and if I visit again I would like to stay here again.

The cabin backed up to another house; not a pier and waterfront. I was dreadfully disappointed that I could not see the lake while drinking coffee from the privacy of the back porch. The cabin is located within an RV park that fronts the water. So, you can walk over to the water. The photos looked as though the pier and water were likely behind the house. They were not. I specifically searched for waterfront cabins and this pulled up. If having privacy to the water is your priority, look elsewhere. The cabin was very nice and clean.
