Clarion Pointe Charleston - West Ashley

The smell was so bad we couldn’t even fully enter the room. Front desk employee was absolutely silent during check in. Most rooms had their doors held open by soda bottles. The elevator was broken.

Elevator broke down while staying. Noisy neighbors didn’t help.

The bedroom was clean upon arrival as was the pool itself. The pool room area surrounding the water and the pool bathroom were a mess upon arrival and even after a request was made for it to be cleaned, nothing happened and it remained filthy until we left the third day. The breakfast area was nice with good food but it took a while for certain things to get replenished. The fitness center was nice and adequate with several good options but needed a good sweeping/vacuuming. From what I observed, almost every time I passed employees, they were sitting on their phones when there was clearly cleaning that needed to be done. This was an average hotel that could be great if more time is focused towards cleaning areas other than just the bedrooms.

There was nothing that I liked about the property. The room that they checked us into was so uninhabitable and unsafe that I had to insist they put us in a different room. Room #1 - There was mold coming out of the vents onto the wall and ceiling, food on the floor, mold on the pull out couch, hair in the bathroom on the tub, mold down the outside of tub, bed covers were dirty, smoke detector missing and just wires hanging from the ceiling, couldn't see out the window because of the filth and water damage. When the clerk checked us into room #2, she said, "Yeah, we're going to be renovating soon.We just took this over a couple months ago." No apology & no appearance of concern. Room #2 wasn't much better, but did have a smoke detector and a newer pull out couch with no mold. The walls were dirty, but no other visible signs of mold. Microwave was rusted, so unusable. There was also food on that floor, so I knew it hadn't been vacuumed. And after the first room I didn't really trust the second room. The mold was not as visible, but I suspected it was still there. We touched as little as possible and used Lysol cleaning wipes for what we did touch. Slept over the covers and fully dressed. Pool was gross and closed anyway. Worst. Hotel. Ever. Just sleep in your car and consider it a loss if you've already booked through a third party.

Overall, I don’t think I’d stay here again. This hotel has seen better days. While the staff member at checkin was nice and helpful, that was the only positive… traveling with my family we kept having to revisit the front desk over and over: - no towels in the pool area (which apparently isn’t a heated pool so it was Like a polar plunge in May) - Only two towels in the room even though booked for five guests, - No sheets or linens or pillow in the room for the pull out couch… Beside that it just didn’t feel or smell clean- Not in the hallway, on the carpet in the room, or the bedding, and there was trash in and around the pool. The breakfast was a meager offering where empty items weren’t being refilled unless someone tracked down a staff member. With some TLC and investing some funds into upkeep this place has potential to be a nice hotel, but it isn’t right now. Spend the extra $20-30 - it will be worth it.

When we arrived on a Tuesday, the pool was out of order. It stayed out of order until we left Friday. The main ice machine was also out of order. When we inquired about another one, the staff said it was the only one. We did not learn until Thursday night there were two more. The first night our air went out because the new furniture causes vents to be blocked. Fortunately that was fixed immediately but they first tried to move us and all our unpacked things to a new room. We asked to take a few minutes to see if it could be resolved before we had to repack and move. “Continental breakfast” included one cereal, a waffle maker, and a bowl of apples. After leaving to find a proper breakfast, we returned and wanted to get another hour of rest. That’s when the fire alarm went off. No explanation was given, but it went off after a few minutes and we were allowed to go back to the room. Apparently rooms are only cleaned after 3 nights and you have to retrieve your own things (towels, trash bags, etc) from the front desk. We were not notified about this ahead of time or when we checked in. Night staff was friendly and helpful, but the daytime manager or clerk made a joke of things or tried to pass the blame to the parent company (choice hotels). As of now, we have a call in to choice hotels and are awaiting a resolution because we did not get what we paid for during this stay.

Indoor pool! Even though it is considered a continental breakfast, there were not enough options.

They have a pool but dont seem to be trying to repair or fix it and with rain , pools are critical for those with kids , also had to ask for extra towels every night no matter how many were used and put out night before , but for its pricing it was an great place

Bed and rooms very dirty, did not stay and was not able to get a refund. In door pool not working, had to wait 30 minutes to check in was there at 3:00 and they had a shift change and staff was late.

The couch and chair in the room had cigarette burns in them and was so nasty we would not allow our grandkids to sit on them. The microwave had food inside of it that couldn't be removed because the button for the door was broke ,the ice machine was broke and the drain plug in the tub was broke so I couldn't take a bath. The ice bucket in the room was nasty and needed to be washed.the pool was closed and nasty looking even though they advertised for indoor pool. The hotel smells like a dirty wet ashtray so you can tell people smoke in it.the inside of the hotel looks NOTHING like the pics they have on their website. This places looks a trap hotel and the manager was rude and didn't care when these issues were brought to their attention and we were told the hotel down the road have a nice pool if we wanted to go stay there. DO NOT STAY AT THIS HOTEL!

Room was dirty, including stains on the bedding. King bed broken and tv remote not working. Worst part was finding roaches in the bathroom. Front desk staff was rude and complacent. Do not stay here!

My room was non-smoking yet reeked of cigarette smoke. The furniture in the room’s sitting area was visibly stained, the bathroom grout was moldy, the carpet hadn’t been vacuumed and the walls in many places had been spackled over yet unpainted. Very poor presentation.

This hotel is absolutely nothing as it advertised. The walls are dirty, the bed we had broke soon as we sat on it. There was a dead roach on the bathroom floor. Just everything about my stay was awful.

This hotel is a scam. Theyve posted picture for somewhere else. Hotel.com has been advised and doesn't do anything about it. The actual place is run down and full of roachess.

It was run down and dirty. Listen to the bad reviews I gave it the benefit of the doubt and it was gross. I didn’t even want to shower there. I skipped it. The paint was peeling, the floor was dirty, there was somebody else’s change on the floor and an empty soap, wrapper on the bathroom floor. I don’t feel like they even cleaned it in between. The rug was torn, the bathroom sink kept filling up my fiancé had to fix it, the surfaces were dusty, the shower curtain was broken, the shower was dripping all night. The more I looked around, the worse it got. We were exhausted after driving hundreds of miles and it was late so we just went to bed and left as soon as we could. The guy checking out in front of me was making the same complaints. These photos don’t do it justice.

The room we stayed in (218) had a very bad smell upon arrival. It was also very dirty. The under bedding had stains, the shower had not been scrubbed, there were stains on the carpet and walls. There was no coffee in the room for the machine and none at the front desk, supposedly. Additionally, the front desk staff was extremely rude (both day and night shift). And on top of all of that, there was an intermittent smell of marijuana coming into our room from somewhere, as well as outside around the facility.

It had a really bad odor in the whole hotel, only 4 things for breakfast options, TVs didn’t work, floor was soaked. Was put in a room that wasn’t even cleaned and had to move rooms 3 times. People banging loudly in neighboring rooms. No light switches in the actual bedroom only a lamp. Just a overall bad experience

This is the grossest hotel I have ever ever stayed in. Bloodstained furniture. Stains on the sheets. Pubic and other hair in the bathroom as well as stains in the toilet appn check-in. Worst experience ever.

When we got to the elevator, there was trash in the hall, and elevator floor, and the trash was still there the following morning when we left for the day. Interior of the elevator was dirty and appears it has not been cleaned in quite some time. When we got up to our floor, again trash in the hallway and there was a funky smell throughout. The room was fairly clean, but appeared that someone had been sitting on the bed. There was a dead roach on the floor in the bathroom, and over our stay, we killed several other roaches. The towels were stained with dark areas, they were clean, but stained. We didn't even try going into the pool. There was no coffee maker in the room, and only a half roll of toilet paper and no Kleenex. We went down to the front desk and the woman at the front desk apologized and was very helpful. Although the TV's appear to be updated recently, cosmetically, the overall condition of the hotel was dirty and is in need of major updating.

Property is tired…old furniture, stained carpets, staff was friendly

I stayed in a 2Queen Bedroom for two nights. The location, surrounding environment, and staff service were good. Also, having the bedroom and living room separated by a door, with a mini-kitchen in between, was very nice. However, there were some points that concerned me. The first room I was shown had a door that was difficult to close; I had to slam it shut with force. The next room they showed us had a slight musty smell inside. Standing barefoot on the carpeted floor made my socks wet. The ceiling light bulb was missing, making the room dark. Also, the bathroom fan wouldn't turn on even when the switch was on. Since it's a budget hotel, maybe this is what you get.

The rooms were nice and big. Very clean. Nice location

The living room area was separated from the bedroom. Bathroom also separated from bedroom area. Nice. I wish it did have a mini stove for simple cooking purposes. Although you possibly could bring a hot plate. Just ask them first.

The room was spacious. The property needs a little TLC; however, the staff was very accommodating, friendly, and professional. There’s nothing they can do about that. Is it somewhere I’d book for the whole family, no; but for travelers, you can’t beat the rate and it’s in a safe area.

Missing staff on arrival, elevator shuddered when used, hallway smelled like weed, room smelled like cigarettes, bed sheets had little marks on them, we found a spider in the sheets too, the shower was dirty and the head dropped all night, the window didn't even have a curtain to block out the floodlights from the boat dock across the fence. Breakfast: eggs were rubbery, biscuits were dry, gravy made my wife sick, the apple juice was just apple-scented sugar water. The only decent part was the coffee oddly enough.

Didn't like lack of hot water at arrival night (it was fine in the morning). Breakfast was slim, no pastries. Staff was attentive.

We booked our stay for 4 people (2 double beds) over 2 months ago. Upon arrival we were told they gave our room to someone else and we had To settle for a single king bed and a sleeper couch. When we begrudgingly agreed since we had no where else to stay, the desk woman (who was babysitting her one year old while working as the only person on staff) placed us in a room WHERE SOMEONE ELSE WAS ALREADY STAYING. Our keycard opened the door to another persons room. The place was a mess, smelly and just horrible. We had to pay triple the price to stay at an alternative hotel for the night, and then had to spend 2 hours on the phone with Expedia to figure out the issues. Ended up canceling the rest of our stay at the clarion and went to the holiday inn Riverview instead. Huge upgrade for same price.

The staff was wonderful and prossional

Clerk was terrible key would not work to enter room, Clerk issued 2 more to keys to two different rooms one with people already in room. No manager present to give or assist in REFUND or Assistance. WORST HOTEL EXPERIENCE EVER. I left without every getting assigned a room. If Hotels.com could assist in helping get a complete refund that would right this issue.

We drove from Ohio for our family vacation and checked in to a room that was trashed and was moved the next morning. Was told they would refund us the first night stay, but have not received anything from them. You can’t get ahold of their owner because he is a king that cannot be called. You must catch him when he is in the office (which is never). I have pictures that will back what I am saying up.

Would NOT stay there again. Disappearing or absent staff. Got locked out of my room by the secondary hoop door lock thing which closed when I went to get something from my truck. When the staff called the maintenance person, they did not answer phone. Staff called manager, the manager knew EXACTLY which room I was in (indicating a known problem). The staff could not use the tool that the hotel has for such emergencies, plus the door frame was scarred from repeated use of the tool (indicating long existing unaddressed problem). I used my tools to get into the room. I did ask for and receive another room. Hot water was lukewarm. Floors were sticky. Breakfast was all carbs. Not a piece of fruit in sight. Cheap paper plates were available for waffles. Derelict RV was parked in lot. Gypsies in the halls. Many long term residents. The rear exit magnetic door lock was non-functional, so anyone could enter at any time. I could not leave this place fast enough. Either Management does not care of corporate/franchise has not visited in forever.

This hotel served it's purpose. It was a central location for all of our destinations while in Charleston. Very close to lots of great restaurants, grocery/drug stores, and an outlet mall.

It is noisy, at least room 422 from the traffic on the street and the walls are thin, could hear the activity in the next room

Unlike most Clarion hotels I have stayed at this one is more of a local persons / transients temporary home. The lobby, the rooms, and the outside are spartan. There was dried blood on the mattress but I did not find bugs. The hairdryer had fallen out of the wall. My key stopped working the second morning and they gave me a replacement without ID. I did not feel safe outside.

The room was spacious, some staff was nice, not a good area in my opinion, very few wash clothes and towels for 2 night stay. Smell of drugs in hallway , pool area needs cleaning. Very disappointing for me and my family. I don't think i would stay there again. Bad experience.

The staff were friendly. The room was clean, but the halls and elevator could have used some extra cleaning. The breakfast less than expected they had it set up to make waffles and toast but no other hot food items. The driveway to get in was a struggle to get in and out of due to location and traffic.

We chose this hotel because it was a Clarion which I always thought they were normally nice but I was wrong on this. Even the breakfast was bad and coffee was bad. I always check ratings to be minimum 8 on hotels.com but this hotel should only be 2.. That’s the last time I choose Clarion.

Hotel was definitely showing its age. Desk staff made an inappropriate comment about several other guests when checking in. Sink was cracked and leaky. Given its proximity to the Savannah Highway, the rooms were surprisingly quiet. Breakfast offerings were minimal.

Breakfast foods not as expected: example— no eggs available. Outside area near front canopy dirty/trashy.

I appreciated the low price for the weekend but the facility and our room was in poor repair: baseboards coming off, dirty carpet with holes, broken toilet seat cover, dirty walls, killed a roach the first night. The breakfast buffet was good but would have liked some bread for toast and bagels.

The water in the bathroom never got over like warm at best for any of our showers. Also the continental breakfast was a joke.
