staff were there on arrival . normally self check in. i was early lovely place room was clean . number 7 bus over the road into york parking secure and easy. i would stay again on my next visit to york thank you .

The property is well presented with good parking. The room was spacious, clean and had good amenities. The property is about a mile from the city centre . There is a regular bus service into the city which has stops near to guest house.

Easy walk down river into York & all the local attractions. Parking was ok. Our room was a good size, however the heating needs huge improvements. The oil heater we had, was on full the whole time to keep the chill off the room, and it only just managed. Shower pressure was average. Bathroom clean & modern. But had no heating at all, so it was very cold. Heated towel rail didnt work.

Well priced handy stopover for York city centre with free parking. November time of year. The toom was a bit on the cold side but an electric heater was included to help. Ensuite, everything worked. Remote check -in was a breeze.

Convenient location with great parking off street. Out room needed a little maintenance attention but it was comfortable for the night and reasonably priced.

When arrived, had to call a mobile to check in and was given a code for front door, then a code for the room, which seemed strange, but once in the room there was a key card, so was fine. Clean and tidy. Fridge in room as well as tea, coffee and bottled water. Had to hunt for the towels, as they were in the wardrobe! I (female) was staying with my young son and was concerned about the front door. Everytime we went in or out, it was either not shut correctly or someone had left it with the Yale lock unlocked, so anyone could walk in. You had to make a concerted effort to make sure the door locked, so being open could have been by accident, but when unlocked, someone had to have done that on purpose. There was parking at the rear, but this was reduced due to a truck being parked there, and how it was parked limited number of cars that could park without blocking in other cars. There was also a few spaces to park on the main road. Overall, the place was good, in a good location for the city centre, clean and value for money.

Have asked for a 5 place room, got a dormitory with 5 beds aligned (not so confortable for parents and children). The green light of the fire alarm on the ceiling is too strong and disturbing in the night. Too hot without air conditioning (we avoided door opening as there were lots of mosquitoes outside). No towel change. Though, having a car park is useful. Some food shops are in the neighbourhood. The location is well to get to the downtown.

It was clean and easy to park and price was reasonable And not too far from town centre

Recently had a stay here and have no complaints, the check in was nice and easy. The lady that did our check in was informative and friendly, didn't leave us needing anything. The room was clean and the room had complimentary bottled water and biscuits. If you need a well priced place to stay near York centre I'd recommend here

Nice large room for 4 adults. Clean .

Good location. Need a good renovation esp on the bedroom. Also the room and bldg lack of proper maintenance as cobweb could be seen everywhere. Bed is very comfortable and most impt, no bedbug. :).

Big room Plenty of space but the bathroom needs a good clean and updating we didn’t use the shower due to it not being of a clean standard

Booking and communication first class, a great price and room was spotlessly clean and as advertised.

After 4 hours of staying in the room a bug crawled across the sheet. When comparing this bug to an online search it is believed that this is a bed bug. Collections of bugs were found around the seems of the headboard.

Nice clean place to stay. Plenty of tea and coffee bits thank you.

Checkin required calling a mobile number which was awkward from our Australian mobile sim. Thankfully I had data so could find the UK area code to use to make the call. Due to traffic noise it was just a bit hard to hear the instructions. Once given the code for the room it was easy to manage. I would have preferred the instructions been emailed or SMS through. The room was upstairs and the beds were soft and comfortable which was wonderful. There was a small fridge. ( No freezer) The toilet hadn’t been cleaned behind the seat and a dark syrupy liquid had accumulated (not cleaning product) and the shower head was very mouldy. Being an older building noise reverberated from other guests using the property however this settled before midnight :) It was a nice walk through the park into town, and was close to Aldi.

There were bedbugs! I woke up in the night because of the bedbug bites. I was moved to another room. When I checked out they supposedly gave me a refund but I didn't receive it.

Really poor. Room was cold...only a oil filled radiator in the room as the heating was not on. I was in the attic with a shared bathroom. The sink in the room was useless. Both taps were impossible to clse. Require replacing. I should know im a retired plumber. Banged my head fourtimes on the ceiling beams and im only a small guy.. As for the shared bathroom it was filthy. Shower curtain was mouldy and the bath panel was cracked and hanging off Toilet seat (pine) was split and unhygienic. Taps in the hand basin same as in my room. Fair enough i went for the price in comparison to other similar accommodations but rest assured i will never stay there again. Awful.

Was very tired and run down,basic but shower didn’t work properly head didn’t even spray water out properly the clientele staying made it feel like a migrant hotel and should have been notified of that

Everything we needed for our short stay in York. The beds were comfortable, the room was clean, bathroom needs a little work and double glazing windows needed as you could hear every car going past due to the window not closing properly. The door coming into the building banged closed, so that woke us up when other guests were coming in and going out of the building.

Large room

It took till a lot later in the day to receive the smart lock details despite several chases through the Hotels.com system. Upon arrival the building was noisy with people in the corridor. The room was very basic with very thin curtains. The TV was mounted really high with dangling cables. There is a lot of road noise and noise from other rooms carries including people in the corridors and slamming of the front door. The water bottles and biscuits were a nice touch. There were a lot of tatty finishes, especially in the bathroom with paint overlapping in odd places. Would not stay again, especially at this price, way too expensive for what you get.

The room was very large. Access to streaming channels. Great area...right beside a bus stop to take you right into city centre.

The pictures that are used for single rooms at Emerald House don't do them justice. The room I had contained a mini-fridge, kettle, hairdryer, sink and enough encroutements for both cleaning and drinking and a small TV on an extendable arm, allowing for some background noise whilst chilling. Location wise I needed something close to both the city centre and also the university and this met both needs. There are bus stops on either side of the road quite nearby and these are great to get into town or the out of town shopping centre. The room was quiet (although some other guests tried their best to change that on the Saturday night) and I managed to sleep well both nights I stayed. The room was larger than shown in the pictures and even though it was road facing it nice and quiet. Dining wise there aren't any takeways/restaraunts in the immediate vicinity, but the city centre is a short bus ride away and I took that approach and enjoyed several relaxing walks back from the city centre, back to Emerald house. The host who met me was lovely and helpful, as was the phone support I got before arriving and during my stay. I would stay there again for sure.

The exterior doors to the room did not lock and the springs were coming through the mattresses. Very uncomfortable. Intermittent issues with hot water and water pressure when using the shower. Spacious room though even if tv was small and tilted and cable was fuzzy. We spent most of our time out of the room.

WORST EXPERIENCE GOING! There is no reception, to gain access and check in you must contact via phone for access codes(no problem). The problem began in room 1 on the ground floor, absolutley freezing, like standing outside! Heater provided was a small electric panel heater that would have absolutely no chance of heating a room that size. I gave it a chance for 1 hour whilst wearing 2 jumpers a coat a hat and my shoes because the floor was so cold you wouldnt want to walk on it. Bathroom was even colder with plywood instead of a window and the ceiling flaking onto the floor from previous water damage i presume. Phoned the contact number to complain and told heating would be coming on , went out for 1 hour as it was more comfortable outside and upon my return stilll no heating. Phoned again and asked to switch rooms, which we did. Room 7 was smaller so easier to heat with small electric heater we where given, still no heat coming out the radiators and although this was an improvement it was still not suitable for people to be staying in. The bathroom had no heating and was so cold we kept the door shut and decided not to shower. By this time it was getting late so I used every spare blanket available and tried to sleep with a cold breeze going over my bald head and 7 mattress springs in my spine as i believe the mattresses are even older than the building itself. I have no idea how these rooms can be sold, DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY IT IS HORRENDOUS!

The check in was difficult as we were not given the entry code in advance and initially no one answered our phone calls. The room was nice.

Ok. For starters when I came, there was work going on downstairs I wasn't really fussed as I was going out However when I was in my room a cleaning my ears, a man just walked it without knocking He just went... Oh!! Sorry!! I didn't realise this room was occupied!! Luckily, I was just cleaning my ears 👂👂 But what if I'd been getting intimate or i farted ect Then the manager came and he at least knocked and he said that he'll need to come in the room at 5pm to check out the radiator I said it was fine as I was gonna be out that night When I turned the telly on, the remote wasn't working So I had to change the channels the old fashioned way with the buttons The location is exceptional and the busses run right pass it as it's on a big road which goes right into York city centre The bed was amazing and a nice soft mattress You get complimentary tea, coffee and a couple of biscuits You have a mirror and a sink with no hot water Id say that you get what you pay for in this accomodation It's exceptional. Not good but not bad either 😕😕😕😕

It was hard to get hold to someone on the phone to check in, I am pregnant and I needed to go to the toilet as soon as, the person who I managed to speak to had issues with the system and took longer to give me the codes to access. Then about an hour after, while I was at a Dr appointment I received a message saying that I have to leave the room, all very random, they took my last name wrong and gave me the wrong number but there is no need to send a message like that and get me all into panic. Apart of that the room was fine, just that didn’t have any other light more than the main one, so if you want to read in bed then take your own lamp.

Good value for money. The main opportunity for improvement is their service. When we arrived, no one was available to give us our key. There was a phone number to call on the front door. We called for about half an hour repeatedly with no answer and were considering going to another accommodation. We thought we had been scammed. We were tired, cold and unhappy. Finally we met another guest who said the same thing happened to them. We finally got through to someone who gave us the code to our room.

Room fine. Service appalling. You need to call a number to get a code for the front door and another code for the room. You'd think that would be easy but evidently not. 10 minutes during which time they presumably didn't know they had to talk into the phone or I wouldn't hear what they were saying. [The property is next to a busy main road]. And then it turned out they were giving me the wrong code which is why it wasn't working.

The room and facilities were exactly as expected. However, key card system could be improved as an employee is required to come to the facility to give you one (no one was there at my time of arrival).

Great experience for a self check in stay. We arrived late but was attended to well by a friendly staff who happened to be at the premise.

Decent enough stay, was blanked twice in communcation attempts pre stay and checking in had to wait on a call back (along with other guests waiting outside) to access our rooms. Clean room, served purpose for the night

The Emerald Residence is a good option for a slightly cheaper stay in York, as it's a bus ride from the centre. Buses are regular (Route 7 to the Park & Ride or route 415 to Selby depart from different points in the city centre - route 7 is the one to use from the railway station, but there are no buses early on Sunday morning). My room was clean and spacious, and did not face the main road so there was no traffic noise. Initial entry requires two codes - one for the front door and one for the bedroom; these were given by phone, so if you don't have a UK mobile phone (or roaming) this could be a slight problem. Once inside there's a keycard to use for access so you don't need to remember the codes, One thing to note: alcohol is strictly forbidden to be consumed on the premises. The area is generally quiet; there's a small Coop store about 5 minutes' walk away that has long opening hours.

A late change of plans meant i needed a last minute room in york on a bank holiday Sunday. This was cheap and in reasonable walking distance to rhe centre, about 20 mins brisk walk. I had low expectations however was pleasantly surprised, room small but clean with a minu fridge, complimentary tea/coffee making facilities, complimentary bottle of water and even had a hairdryer in the room. For the price paid excellent value for a single night.

Lovely place to stay nice and quiet and close to all amenities. Bus stop across the rd takes you right into the city center. Friendly helpful staff, would definitely stay again.

Heating on in the bathroom in August!! Not needed! The call to the mobile number to get the codes to enter the building then the room was odd. Beds were comfy. Shower doors narrow (we are larger people!) Only one window opened to the main road, other had no latch and painted shut! Front room bottom floor you hear the front door slaming shut. Neighbours upstairs too! Nice touch with a fridge, nowhere to strain the tea leaves though that were left out on the tray? No alcohol in the room, fair enough but booked through hotels.com advertised breakfast and none forthcoming! Disappointing

I don't care about some negative review in this place. All I need is a place to sleep with while spending my holiday in York. And this place is perfect. It has everything I need (towel, toiletries, refreshments). Very clean and tidy. Nice toilet and shower. Location, it is very near in bus stops that could take you in a few minutes to the city center. I enjoy my stay here as much as I enjoy traveling York. I just want a little suggestion to atleast have a microwave oven so we can buy ready to eat foods. Besides that.. everything is perfect.
