Room was clean and comfortable, one minor gripe was no plug in the sink. Only one lift working, not a big issue at non-peak times but with 9 floors really could do with 2 lifts. Reception advised me to park in the adjacent NCP car par which was half the price of the hotel car park. Didn't have breakfast but had a decent pizza in the evening.

Was advertised with limited parking. there was space but when i checked in was told this was not an option. Outside and common areas run down breakfast area and room good.although carpet stained.

Basic hotel, which met our needs with the added bonus of breakfast included and parking on site.

The hotel is pretty central and as close to the town centre as most of the other less expensive hotels. My room was comfortable and clean apart from a thick layer of grime on the inside of the window. The hotel is old and could do with some new carpets and a paint job. The parking is in the adjacent NCP car park which is very close and cheap (less than £10 for a two night stay). Be aware that the car park is closed and not accessible from 10pm to 5am. Breakfast was fine. The main weird thing about the place is that reception is hardly ever manned. Not when I arrived and at other times. I had to wait with several other people to check in until somebody came in who knew the place and found a door and shouted for someone. There was a notice to ring a number for help. I called it and the phone on the reception desk in front of me rang! I had an issue with my key card. The feller who helped me was great, friendly and helpful and fixed the problem but I had to go and fetch him out of the kitchen 3 times as there was nobody in reception when needed. Because of that, I would probably book elsewhere next time.

The hotel its self was lovely and so was the staff but whatever you do, don’t park on the royal Victoria hotel. This is the car park right to the side of the metropolitan. Me and my sister came up for new year, to come back from being out to find her car window to be smashed in!! Stole her dashcam, money, cards ect!!! Royal Victoria hotel was no help! Parked by cameras for this exact reason but wasn’t able to view! He had done a few cars on this car park ! Be careful

Hotel needs some refurbishment. Parking not available onsite. NPC carpark near has no access to hotel and must walk with stuff to get to hotel.

Spotless room, friendly staff

My young child found a bottle of l**e in between the twin beds in our room on our second morning. Extra concerning being on the second morning as either the cleaning standard is so terribly low that this was missed not only when changing the room over from the previous guest but also on the previous day of our stay, or that someone in the hotel was using this room for dubious purposes during our stay. Otherwise hotel was very average, worn but adequate. Staff were all helpful.

The room was smelly, the toilet could not flush properly. The room was not made up the first night and I was told I had to ask for it to be made up. The place was stinking with smoke even though it said non smoking. It was noisy with doors opening all night and people smoking in the passage where I was staying. Generally unhygienic and unhealthy which is why I moved to a different hotel on the third night.

It’s a fairly depressing budget hotel, which needs some maintenance to be a ‘decent stay’ in my opinion (stained carpets, mildewy bathroom tiling, badly done sealant etc). I’d choose any other budget chain over this one, especially as prices are very similar (too high for this hotel in my opinion) Lovely staff and comfortable bed though

Although the room was clean the windows in the whole hotel were very dirty. The grouting on the tiles in the bathroom was grimy. There was also no power points by the bedside cabinets and the hotel seem very dated. There was no staff on reception when we left. The upside was that the staff were friendly and the breakfast was good.

The hotel was old and outdated, stayed in many Best Western hotels BUT nothing like this one. Strange smell in the room, found hair in the carpet when it was supposed to have been cleaned (photo attached) Mentioned this when checking out but receptionist not really interested.

This hotel is very very tired. Kitted out in wipe down surfaces instead of soft furnishings. Paintwork peeling. Mold in the bathroom. No sockets bedside and the single USB socket was not working. Bed was comfortable. Staff were a delight. Also we were downgraded in our rooms from those we booked without any notification.

Very courteous and helpful staff. Spotless, spacious room with a very comfortable bed.

The towels had stains on them and the mattress sagged in the middle and was uncomfortable. Check in was easy and lovely service. The hotel is very dated and requires improvement

The room was absolutely boiling even with a fan. Totally inadequate for summer temperatures.

On arrival the front of the hotel looks tired and shabby. When i got to my room I was pleased with the size and condition, however the TV was unable to get a signal at any point, so wasnt able to use it and the shower was disappointing at best and there was a large crack in the bathroom mirror (caused before I even looked at it) The walls very incredibly thin and everytime someone either went in or left a room near to me the wall next to the bed shook so much I thought they was trying to get into my room. Breakfast in the morning was good, certainly no complaints, although there was a bizarre incident when the cook strode over holding an egg to the next table and told the man on the next table that this is where the scrambled eggs come from! The bed was very comfortable and apart from the room shaking at regular intervals I was able to get a fairly decent sleep. Very a cheap night and was ok for the money but certainly wouldnt pay anymore than I did to stay there.

The hotel was clean and comfortable however there was no air-conditioning which made the room extremely hotel. They had supplied a fan but unfortunately wasn't very effective. There was also no telephone in the room incase of an emergency.

Overall, the room was clean, but it was very dark, which made working difficult. I asked customer service, but they told me there were no extra desk lamps. I booked this hotel for a business trip, so this issue was quite frustrating.

We stayed here once before, when it was not a Best Western hotel. You made lots of changes that make it look very nice. Still a good size room, clean and tidy, staff friendly (especially the receptionist from Sunday morning 22nd Feb she was lovely) Only down sides was water pressure was shocking not really a shower more a dribble. We were only there one night so couldn’t do much, we did inform receptionist. Good location to city and if you can’t park in front of the hotel there is an NCP car park behind which still charges £10 overnight same as the hotel.

Hotel was nice and clean but a little run down in some of the communal areas. Staff were lovely and helped us with any queeries we have. Room was nice and bed massive, although its 2 singles pushed together. Room was spotlessly clean. The big downside was how hot it was in the room and through the night. There was a fan provided and this did help a little, but the room could do with aircon. Also all the room doors could do with closers added to them as they are heavy and slam shut very loudly. This woke us up several times. Overall though, for the price we paid the hotel was acceptable and I would stay again. Shout out to the friendly reception staff. It makes all the difference.

We booked a twin room,hut was given a double (good job me and my friend have known each other over 30 year)..but still nice to have you're own bed..said on my booking twin..not double...phone charger next to my bed didn't work..bit disappointing

Family room clean- bit dated - toilet flush takes long time to fill back up. Dining area quite dated. Didn’t have breakfast, so can't comment. Surrounding area very nice, the quays had good vibe. Easy walk into the centre. Plenty to do out and about. Would stay again.

This is pretty central, train station 10 minutes walk, 15 minutes walk into the town. Property looks ok from the outside and so does reception. Staff were lovely when we checked in. The bedrooms on the other hand are dated and in need of a revamp. We had a dripping shower/bath for the whole weekend we were there. There was no room between the single beds. The room felt too small for a pull out bed too. So 3 Adults was a little cramped.

I read previous reviews of this property and believe that they are, at least inaccurate but many were completely misleading. Our stay was comfortable, staff were extremely polite and helpful throughout. The Buffet Breakfast was of a good standard and the young lady serving it was also polite and helpful. Whoever put the review regarding Asylum Seekers is obviously unaware of Sheffield’s multi-cultural community. On further trips to Sheffield, my family and I will definitely avail ourselves of this hotel again. Thank you to the new management and all staff (especially Ajeesh).

Not good as you as hotels. Com never booked my room at the best western. I had to sit and wait for a hour in reception whilst hotel found me a room. Not happy when you have been working all day

Our stay at this hotel was disappointing from the start. Upon arrival, we struggled to locate the hotel as it had changed names from “The Metropolitan” to “Best Western”—something we should have been informed of in advance. After walking around trying to find it, we had to ask in another hotel for directions, which was frustrating and not the best start to our trip. Once we checked in, we were given a room with a connecting door to the next room. Unfortunately, at around 1am, we were woken by extremely loud, aggressive shouting from the room next door. As two females traveling together, we felt very uncomfortable, especially as it sounded like there were multiple men in the room. While we understand it was a Saturday night and some noise is expected, the walls were so thin that it was impossible to block out the disturbances. We eventually called reception, who advised us to lock our doors, which didn’t resolve the issue. After about 30 minutes, the group left the room, but they returned around 3:30am. This time, it seemed like drug use was involved, and the situation felt just as unsettling as before. Other than these major issues, our stay was okay, but given the lack of security, thin walls, and failure to notify guests of important changes, I wouldn’t recommend this hotel—especially not for families or those looking for a peaceful, safe stay.

Needed a one night stay in Sheffield to visit my son at University Hotel was just right and as I came by train no problems with parking Room was large, clean and warm; with a comfy bed too Staff were friendly and efficient and the manager wished me a good day

The reception looks like it hasn’t been touched in thirty years. When we arrived we were told our booking didn’t exist and shouldn’t have booked via hotels.com as ‘sometimes it doesn’t work’. Check in took 30 mins as one receptionist seemed to be texting someone to sort it out. Didn’t get a single apology for the inconvenience. In fairness, the room was clean but it was nothing to worry home about.

Great room, excellent value. The young lady who was on reception when we checked in Sunday evening about 6-00 was extremely helpful. Would definitely stay here again if visiting Sheffield.

Tried ringing the hotel early on the morning to ask if we could drop our bags, no answer. called again from the train, no answer. Arrived early, walked into reception, no one there, called the number on reception (the same one I'd called earlier) Again no answer. Shouted through to hopefully attract attention. Nothing. A resident came down the stairs and informed us that there was someone in the restaurant upstairs, they let us through and we went upstairs, to be greeted by a lady, who had a phone on her. The room wasn't the best, comfy, but after dropping my towel and picking up to notice it covered in human hairs, it was obvious the carpet needed a vacuum. We checked out by dropping the key into the box. There was a chap on reception ringing the number for some milk, he'd been there 15 minutes. Short staffed?

The hotel staff were friendly but often gave contradictory information, particularly about parking. We ended up parking in the NCP carpark next door which was very cheap and convenient. The room was satisfactory apart from the excessive heat. They did provide a fan but it didn't do much to cool the room. The whole hotel was old and rundown. Outside the hotel was worse it was a derelict building site. Breakfast was okay but not great for the money we paid

Great location ideal for catching the tram to the arena or Meadowhall for shopping. Affordable accommodation.

Initially couldn’t find the hotel, it is a best western but doesn’t call itself metropolitan anywhere. Looks tired from the outside and a bit dated inside, but overall room was fine, bed comfy and had nice view of river

Easy distance to railway station and city centre

Good location approx 10 min walk from the centre. Perhaps a little tired-looking but price reflected this. Check in went well, ‘business class’ room on 8th floor was large and roomy. Free WiFi with a good bandwidth. Didn’t spend much time there apart from to sleep. Bed was comfy, bathroom was clean and tidy although the water pressure was low so only an average shower possible. Breakfast was a bit ‘greasy spoon’ cafe visually but food and drink quality was fine. Overall, a perfectly acceptable budget hotel.

The hotel itself for a one night stay was OK & this is the view I expressed direct with the hotel manager who was appreciative to the positive feedback I was able to provide. It wasn’t easy to find on foot & it is an area that is presently undergoing a regeneration project within Sheffield so may be considered not great late at night for walking alone. It is 5-10 mins walk from Fitzallen Square/Ponds Forge metro. Rooms OK, clean, hot shower, breakfast OK.

Great budget friendly hotel, staff friendly and welcoming. Excellent location Outside looks a little run down but rooms are pleasant, comfortable and quite large Great breakfast. Perfect location for events at Ponds Forge!

Room very clean and well presented. Lovely queen size bed but a little soft for my liking. Nice shower and bathroom, good size. Including breakfast which was tasty, hot and plentiful

The room was perfect. It was clean and spacious. Bathroom was clean. The breakfast was very minimal. The only fruit available was either an apple or a banana there was no natural yoghurt only flavoured yoghurt pots. They just wasn’t much selection.

Hotel has great staff, but rough around the edges as new management takes over. Cleaning could be a bit better and the fact the bar & restaurant were closed should be sign-posted.
