Leonardo Hotel Amsterdam Museum Quarter

The staff were very friendly and helpful. There is a beautiful courtyard to eat or relax. The bar/restaurant was very accommodating. The location is very central and everything is walkable.

The hotel was right next door to the Rijksmuseum and walking distance to venues that are of interest to us such as the van Gogh museum and restaurants. There are also quite a few high end clothing shops nearby. We arrived at about 10am after our river cruise and they were able to immediately accommodate us with a room instead of luggage drop off and having to wait until the 3pm check in time. This was greatly appreciated! Information and service requests for your stay is not on traditional brochures/booklets/phone in your room but via a phone app and is very convenient. WiFi is available but a little slow. The front entrance has 5 or 6 very steep steps, if you are a senior and have heavy bags, it may be a challenge. I did not see someone available to help with bags but pretty sure you can ask for help from reception. The room was clean, updated and well insulated from neighbours and a major street in front of the hotel. The major street has public transport or by taxi/Uber. Room cleaning has to be scheduled instead of someone coming by daily. We scheduled a cleaning for the next day which was missed. Room was also missing a remote control for the TV. We spoke to reception for a replacement to be delivered but did not take place that day so we picked up the remote ourselves the next day. Afterward, found out either TV or remote does not work. Check out was efficient and no issues even though it was 5am in the morning.

It was very overpriced for what is on offer. No restaurant, dinner. Bar closed at 1030. No towels in my room. No phone in the room gor reception. No TV remote in my room. EUR 832.00 for 2 nights!

Hotel was perfect for our trip. Well situated, comfortable and quiet. Service on the desk was friendly but slow. A bar would have been a good addition.

We had a “cozy” queen which was nicely appointed while also being the smallest room we’ve ever stayed in, including NYC. The real issue for us was being on -0 which often included an open loading dock and laundry room that often remained open. An open mop bucket had what seemed like permanent residence in the hall as well. Easily solved problems that would improve their rating.

Good facilities, clean and tidy. No parking. Towls could have been changed but wernt.

A great hotel for a short break within easy walking distance of museums, cafe's, shops and restaurants, as well as parks, canals and transportation. Very ‘cosy’ rooms (small) with comfortable beds and decent clean amenities including a fridge, hairdryer, safe, tv and kettle. Nice view over the courtyard outside seating area. We didn’t eat there, but had a few drinks in the bar which was lovely. Staff were all very friendly and helpful throughout our stay.

The location is amazing! Walking distance to all the museums and shopping district. We first got a room in the basement or underground floor, and it was horrible, we couldnt sleep at all, you can hear all the cars and people walking by. But then they moved us to the 4th floor and it was perfect. The beds are comfy, the shower small but nice hot water. The staff was really nice too. We rented the bicycles from the hotel and it was super convenient. We did not try the breakfast.

Right by Rijksmuseum and Van Gogh musuem and near tram routes and bus route from airport but little way from centre (but trams easy to use) Staff very helpful but bit of a scrum sometimes at breakfast and nowhere near by to get alternative breakfast. Food available limited at other times but plenty of local alternatives for dinner

I'm not a big fan of the properties that don't provide maid service everyday unless you ask. And, It took three tries one day to get towels changed. And, I still needed to go and get them in the lobby. The bathroom was a tight fit and this is compared to Paris. But, the staff were friendly, the breakfast was decent and the location was tip top.

Unfortunately, the cleaning of this hotel was terrible. Upon complaining we were told they were understaffed. This is not an excuse and if they are understaffed another solution should have brought up before hosting guests

Stayed Aug 17–21, 2025. Found multiple ants on the bed sheets upon arrival, and despite the sheets being changed, my sister was bitten three times overnight. No alternative room or compensation was offered. Very disappointed with the cleanliness and the lack of proactive resolution. Would not recommend.

I had a terrible experience as the bed in the room had bed bugs and I was bitten several times, the most sensitive bites were on my face. I had a very severe local inflammatory reaction and 48 hours after the event my face is still swollen. The hotel showed me no courtesy in this unfortunate situation. The problem is that there were at least 3 bed bugs, which means there are probably more, or they have an uncontrolled infestation.

BED BUG BED BUG BED BUG Staff were nice ,BUT dirty sheets, found two bed bugs during the day even in the sunlight, had to change sheets , still dirty, Bed bugs After business trip and came back, my body is reacting so bad. According to the bite marks not one or two in this room

I like the location. The hotel looks nice, but the bedroom I stayed in was not clean.

I stayed here for two weeks and could not stay in the tiny room they put me in but reception was excellent and found me a suitable room. The cleanliness leaves a lot to be desired the rooms are cleaned in 10 mins. You could write your name in the dust on the top of the headboard. In two weeks it wasn't cleaned well once. There are no protectors on the pillows and mattress which for a 4 star hotel isn't acceptable. Pillows are small and have seen better days. A king bed is two singles pushed together and was very dirty between them. I even found two tablets in the gap which not only showed lack of cleaning but a hazard if you have children. The shower is annoying as no shelf in it so all your expensive products go on the floor. Cooked breakfast options are limited three items each day so was very boring. Dry scrambled egg everyday one day with beans and bacon then next day sausage no beans. The cook was quite dismissive and rude a couple of times she doesn't handle the busy period well. I was always waiting it's poorly staffed. I don't rate this 4 star a good 3 but weak 4. No concierge, no room service. Only toasted sandwiches available downstairs No fries or salad just a sandwich. I think for the money other hotels offer so much more. Great location that can't be denied. Reception staff are superb but let down by the General Management of the hotel. Ok for a one or two night stay, if you have only one small suitcase no room for anything else. Badly thought design

Bed Bugs! Stayed in March. Sewerage smell in lobby. Told of upgrade, but tiny room. Despite our late arrival, approx 10pm, Son's sofa bed not made. Asked for larger room, none available, given linens to make up sofa bed. Discovered bed bugs at 11:30 PM, couldn’t reach reception phone broken. Slept atop duvet. Morning: found more bugs, videoed, showed reception who were able to move us and to a larger room, surprisingly! no luggage help. Corridors leading to new room resembled staff quarters. Upon return and reflection we reached out by email and requested refund for our disturbed night, and subsequent disturbed nights with just the thought of bed bugs in mind, no response after reaching out twice. Even reached out to head office and no response. Would not stay again, would not recommend. If you still choose to stay after reading this review, then check your bed for bugs! Two of the reception team in particular were very efficient but the others were not interested, breakfast staff were pleasant just the sewage smell was off putting.

Overall my stay was pleasant at this hotel. The staff were very friendly and it's a great location and was generally clean. A few issues i had were - The lobby smelt like sewage the whole time we were think, it was really off putting. It was enough to make us not want to use the bar or have breakfast in the morning. - The staff member who checked us in, told us we were getting a large room, with a garden view and a bath tub. We got none of these things. Seemed a bit odd to tell us all of this and not give us it. Our room was missing or low on general necessities, like our shower had no soap the first day and we were only given 1 toilet roll for the room. i would stay here again and it's a good hotel for the price, just slightly let down by a few factors.

Hotel was very nice. Breakfast was very good, one of the best we had on our entire trip. Everything was made fresh the day of including croissants and pastries. Only complaint would be the cleanliness of our bathroom. Lots of past guest evidence in room. Drinking glasses in room were all dirty with stuff stuck to them. Toilet was dirty and did not look like it had been cleaned in a while. Some type of leaves were all inside the drawer under the sink. Overall we still enjoyed our stay. If the bathroom had of been cleaned properly would given a 5 star review.

Room and location was great. We were in the Quad room on the top floor. As we visited in February, the weather outside was extremely cold and there was a significant draft from the windows in the room. Reported this to reception and the lady provided us with a couple of oil heaters to warm the room which was very thoughtful. Wouldnt be a problem if you choose to stay later in the year. Good sized room and bathroom with a good shower. We requested that our room was cleaned daily and this was done to a high standard. Tea and coffee facilities were available and bottled water was provided daily. There was also a small fridge. Really good location(across from Rijkmuseum) The reception staff and breakfast staff were all really friendly and helpful.

Extremely small rooms

Close to public transportation, easy to get to Centraal station by tram. The neighborhood is gorgeous, everything very walkable. Our only complaint was the air conditioning locked at 20C, so we couldn't make it any cooler on hot summer afternoons, or nights. It made sleeping a little difficult. However, we definitely hope to visit again one day!

The room was not soundproof, and the windows had poor seals, so noise and cold penetrated the room.

Great area away from the core downtown but very convenient and safe. The hotel it’s a block away from the pretty canals and museum. Near the street car stops and the bus to the airport. Recommend this facility to solo travelers who want to be away from a party scene. The room it’s pretty small but clean.

Well located hotel but rooms are small. A funky set up with check-in and restaurant next to each other. To get to the elevator we have to walk through the restaurant. There was an odor of mildew throughout hotel and definitely don’t get a room on -1 floor.

My only dissatisfaction was our room not being ready by check in. The hotel staff focused on a large group of students and we waited hours to be able to get a room. They were late checking us in.

This is an excellent property located in the museum district which makes it very convenient if your stay includes visiting the museums. Breakfast was great. Unfortunately, getting service from the staff for basic requests relating to cleaning of the room, provision of towels, and removal of garbage and used dishes was difficult. The hotel prefers to make such requests via an app but this seems like an extra step to obtain the basics.

Check-in was a very disappointing start. The hotel initially tried to put us in a room that clearly did not match the photos shown at the time of booking on Hotels.com. Only after we showed them the photos on our phone did they admit there was a mismatch, blaming Expedia Group for “wrong information”. After a tense few minutes, the manager eventually moved us to a room that matched what we had booked, but made it sound as though he was doing us a favour rather than correcting their mistake. The (correct) room itself was okay, but the bathroom floor flooded within a couple of minutes of having a shower due to a poorly draining floor. Not ideal, even if not a complete disaster. Breakfast was well below expectations for the price point, with limited choice and low overall quality. Even ignoring the check-in incident, we would struggle to recommend this property, as the prime location does not compensate for the poor service and value. Taking the check-in experience into account, I would suggest avoiding the hassle and choosing another hotel in Amsterdam.

We called the hotel to see if our 3 rooms would be ready for an early check in. We were informed that they could put us in 2 of our rooms, the third wasn’t available at that time. We said, no problem we just wanted to drop our bags. They asked if we would be able to walk up 1 flight of stairs? We said sure. They informed us we would be getting an upgrade on one of the rooms. When we arrive we were given 2 keys. The rooms were through 3 different doors and upstairs which looked like a ladder and spiral. We had 6 people and about 11 pieces of luggage. My husband could do stairs, but not these. They had rooms on regular floors and 2 elevators to get to all of them. Why they put us up in the “attic rooms” I don’t know. We did not demand a room and yet they tried to have 2 out of the 6 people were 68 and one with mobility issues get up these stairs. NOT HAPPENING I went back down to the from desk and politely asked about other rooms and explained our situation. I believe it was the manager that showed us 2 rooms which we were able to use an elevator to access the rooms. He switched everything over to the new rooms. Now these rooms were available when we walked in, but the other clerk sent us on a wild walk up these very dangerous stairs in the furthest corner of the hotel. I wanted to ask her if she would make her mother walk up these stairs? Meanwhile we are going through this hotel with all of bags in tow to the nicer part of the hotel. A/C only worked if you kept moving.

The room was too small for 2 people, not to mention 3. We arrived in Amsterdam at 10 am and waited to check in till 3:20 pm. We asked several times that f we can get into room a little earlier (common courtesy in most hotels) only to be denied several times stating that guaranteed time for check in is 3pm. While waiting, multiple other guests who came after us were accommodated. We finally got the key to the room around 3:20 pm and only after I started to argue. All of the sudden the room was ready

We had a great stay at this lovely hotel, which was right near the Rijks museum. It was within walking distance of most anywhere, also within easy travel access to other parts of the city including the Central station. Staff was very accommodating and helpful. Would highly recommend.

Due to reasons not important here, we did not stay at the hotel. I am writing this review because the Hotel Manager was simply outstanding in helping us find another solution. He and the front desk personnel were professional, but went way beyond what they were required to do. I would go back to this hotel.

Friendly staff and nice hotel overall. It was very well situated for our visit to Amsterdam.

Great Property right in the Museum area of Amsrterdam. Lots of trasport options, bus to airport and Trams just around the corner. Easy Access to all parts of the city. The property is well appoined, clean and well maintained and he staff are excellent

This was just a few minutes walk from the Rejksmuseum. Also, all of the other major art museums are nearby. It is easy to get to by hopping on a tram outside the Central train station.

Fantastic location on the outer canals, near enough to everything. Will stay here again.

So close to the museums. Didn’t need to take the train. Just walked out and the museums and food places were just nearby.

Very nice hotel in a great location in Amsterdam. We liked the breakfast each morning. The view from our window of the Rijksmuseum was great. There are many restaurants, shops and sites, as well as museums, all around the hotel. The staff are helpful, friendly and efficient. Highly recommend this hotel!

Room was clean, staff was always so friendly and were a great help to us! We ended up eating breakfast onsite everyday because they opened early and had a great selection.

Great location near the Rijksmuseum and other museums in the area. Staff was great, they even prepared us a sack breakfast for our early morning checkout.

Overall nice hotel, great location for the Museums. Purchased a sandwich for lunch at the Restaurant, the meat & cheese were frozen! Absolute crap, cheap ingredients . The worst part is they charged €9.50. Staff shrugged their shoulders when I mentioned the issue.

My husband and I enjoyed our stay for 10 nights. The hotel is in an excellent location and it was very easy for us to walk to museums and access transportation in Amsterdam.. Our room and bath were clean and fresh bottled water was provided. We opted for the breakfast and it was delicious and generous and I was provided delicious gluten free choices which were much appreciated. The front desk staff was pleasant and accommodating and helped us on numerous occasions with directions and suggestions. Our room was quite small by American standards but that was due to the rooms available at the time. We eagerly look forward to returning to the Leonardo Boutique Museumhotel on our next visit.

You couldn’t be closer to the Rijksmuseum than at this hotel! The morning buffet was great, with options for people with food allergies. The staff were great! During the day, I noticed street noise but the nights were quiet.

Great hotel, very clean and good facilities. We had a cosy double room so it was small but we didn’t need anything else and was expecting it to be small anyway. Breakfast was decent, not a lot of choice in the hot food (only scrambled egg, sausages, beans and bacon), though the continental food was of a good variety. They had a cool pancake machine where you just pressed a button and it made two fresh small sized pancakes for you (if you wanted more, then just press the button again) Overall, very nice hotel, would definitely recommend. Is a 30th minute walk from the Centraal Station
